Hidden Canopy Treehouses Boutique Hotel | Best places to stay in Costa Rica

"Tucked into the cloud forest on the outskirts of Santa Elena, this intimate little B&B is comprised of a series of bungalows that are built right into the trees. The bungalows sit in five hectares of misty cloud forest, dotted with orchids and bromeliads perched over a jungle-filled valley. This area is rife with exotic life, including hummingbirds, toucans, capuchin monkeys and the occasional slow-moving sloth. Rooms are rustic – in warm woods and fronted with large terraces overlooking the valley. Some have Jacuzzis and the largest is big enough for a family of five (min age for kids though is 15). Best of all are the vistas: the lodge is perched on a hillside with extravagant valley views. " - Alex Robinson

My wife and I stayed 4 nights and had a fantastic time. Jen (the owner) was incredibly communicative and accommodating. She and her staff were always available and pleasant to work with as well. We particularly enjoyed the daily breakfast as well as tea time with sangria in the evenings. My wife loved meeting the 3 cats of the house as well. ||The room we stayed in (Septimo Cielo ) was palatial with a king beds, 2 bathrooms, a 2 seater jacuzzi tub, a rainfall shower, and a 2nd floor seating area. The room was cleaned daily with high attention to detail. Additionally the decor and furniture was high quality and well maintained. As well, all of the rooms are spaced so that your sight lines don't see anyone else so you feel very secluded. There are several hundred feet from you to your nearest neighbor which adds privacy as well. ||One of our favorites was sitting in the dining room in the morning and seeing the view. On clear days you can see the ocean with mountains between which was breathtaking daily. The food was very good and varied daily. Though, only breakfast is offered I would highly recommend getting it daily. They also provide snacks, coffee, and sangria in the room which we enjoyed.||The grounds are beautiful. There is a hummingbird garden that we watched with breakfast as well as a short hiking trail where we saw peccaries and multiple birds. Additionally, there is ~ half a mile of cement walkways to each cottage which we enjoyed walking. All of the trails and walkways were well maintained and clean as well. ||The location was great for us. It's about 5 minute drive from town and it's very close to Selvatura and Treetopia which we enjoyed as well. We drove in for dinner daily and had no issues with the drive at night but if you are worried they offer help with a driver to and from town or even the airport though we didn't use this. Jen is an unmatched host who provides you with a map and amazing suggestions and has a wealth of knowledge of local activities. Furthermore, Jen is a kind and fascinating individual who was a pleasure to talk to.||Overall, we would highly recommend staying if able. We are looking for an excuse to return ourselves.

I had the wonderful experience of staying at Hidden Canopy with friends for three nights and am still a little mind boggled when I think back at our stay. While we expected a comfortable and enjoyable stay, our experience was off the charts. We stayed at the Rivendell house in a beautiful setting in the trees where you can sit and get lost just looking out the windows. Everything about this house is amazing, from the huge windows to the gorgeous wood ceiling and all the little details that you see. It is spotless and the housekeeper does an amazing job to keep it that way. The breakfast offered each morning at the main house is wonderful and looking out at the garden or in the distance just makes the experience even more special. While there we took advantage of signing up for a bird watching tour and Koki the guide did not disappoint. Koki’s knowledge and understanding of birds, animals and the environment is nothing short of incredible. This experience too made our trip special and memorable. |The best part was that the owners Jen and Gary and the staff were incredibly attentive and accommodating. In fact my travel companion was not feeling well and Jen arranged for a doctor to stop by and evaluate her. A house call on vacation! All I can say is we have never stayed anywhere while traveling where you are pampered and made to feel special and at home like we felt at Hidden Canopy. I will rate this a five out of five because that’s the highest I can go but if I could I’d rate it a ten. It was a fantastic experience that we’ll never forget!

Hidden Canopy Treehouses was hands down the loveliest part of our trip—and the perfect place to spend the last leg of our honeymoon. The treehouses are tucked throughout a stunning property, making it feel private and peaceful. The main house, where breakfast is served, has this unreal view over the mountains that makes mornings feel magical. We stayed at the Septimo Cielo room and it was beautiful—two stories, amazing views, a private deck, and the best shower of our whole trip! Also, Hidden Canopy provides a bunch of snacks, which isn’t something you see at other places.||What really set this place apart was the vibe. It felt more like staying at a friend’s beautiful mountain home than a hotel. Jennifer, the owner, is such a warm host—we loved chatting with her and other guests during breakfast and sunset tea/sangria time. It was great connecting with fellow travelers and even experienced tour guides hanging out, discussing wildlife just outside the window.||Jennifer and the Hidden Canopy Team are well connected in the Monteverde community and helped with everything: transfers, dinner reservations, excursions (the jungle night tour with Koki is a must), and horseback riding. During our stay, we felt totally taken care of—couldn’t recommend it more. We will definitely come back!

This was probably the best place I have ever stayed! The treehouses themselves are beautiful with modern amenities but also lots of windows so you feel like you’re immersed in nature. The owner Jenn and her staff are the true gems of this place. We went to celebrate my 40th birthday, and they had a little welcome surprise waiting for us, as well as complimentary snacks and sangria that they offer to all guests. Every day there was a tea time with a complimentary glass of sangria. It was so lovely to meet other guests and pet the three resident cats. Breakfasts were amazing and made to order. I loved sitting in the breakfast room and watching dozens of hummingbirds and other animals from the window. Jenn helped us arrange transportation to the treehouses, as well as any other activities we wanted to do. I truly felt treated both like royalty and family. This is an amazing place. If you have the chance to stay here, do!!

Staying at the Hidden Canopy Treehouses was one of the best experiences I have had. Jen's attention to detail is amazing and her focus on making each guest's experience as good as it can be was fantastic. She has knowledge and connections in the community to make recommendations and arrangements easy. Plus she has an amazing sense of humour! We stayed in the 2 bedroom Neverland Treehouse - it was beautiful and roomy, quiet and serene and the beds and pillows were dreamy. The snack boxes were a great touch. The nightly invitation for tea or sangria to mingle with other guests was alot of fun and we met some lovely guests to chat and laugh with. The view of the sunsets from the main room where we gathered were phenomenal. I would recommend anyone looking for a unique , boutique and gorgeous place to stay, to go to the Hidden Canopy Treehouses.

This was an amazing experience! Jenn and her staff were so kind and took such good care of us! The owner even made us a cake to celebrate my moms birthday and a special milestone for our family. The tea time and breakfasts in the mornings were a highlight of this trip. All tours and accommodations could be booked thru Hidden Canopy and all recommendations were amazing. We did a night tour with Jenn’s special guide Koky and it was an unforgettable experience! We cant wait to come back!

We loved Hidden Canopy. One of our favorites in Costa Rica. Was wonderful to listen to the sounds of the forest all night. The covered patio attached the tree house was awesome. The evening happy hours were so nice to get an opportunity to meet other travelers. Jenn, the owner, and her amazing staff make this place really special.

After a couples of weeks traveling around Costa Rica and enjoying all the beauty, we ended our stay at Hidden Canopy Treehouses. We are beyond grateful to land where we did in the beautiful Avalon treehouse. The evening upon our arrival we both became ill (possibly from food from another location) but the beauty was that we were able to stay in such a gorgeous place surrounded by trees and a cloud forest to rest and recover quickly. Jenn and her staff were absolutely wonderful, making sure we had what we needed to feel better and they also rescheduled our tours with Koky for the next day! Without Jenn’s “care package” and visit to check on us, we may not have recovered as quickly. We extend our sincere appreciation to all of them. Also, Koky was a terrific guide in the cloud forest and during the night hike. The fact that he could spot what he did so quickly was beyond amazing and then he would take the photos for us to get some pictures that we would not have been able to get otherwise. We also enjoyed our chocolate tour at Cafe Cabure with Bob and a meal at his wife’s restaurant after our morning hike. Overall just a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend! We only wish we would have felt better to explore the community, too.
