"Start your night with a cocktail at this delightful neighbourhood restaurant that was once the village shop. There is no small amount of skill on display from the chefs, with dishes that are exquisitely crafted and deliver fabulous flavours and textures, be it an exceptional raviolo or glistening turbot. The very best ingredients from Kent’s larder are a feature, while the wine list looks further afield to up-and-coming regions such as Georgia, Croatia and Macedonia. Service comes from a charming team who work with pride and passion." - Michelin Inspector

The Cheapest Michelin Star Restaurants For Lunch in the UK & Ireland

"Not many communities are fortunate enough to say that their neighbourhood restaurant has a Michelin Star, but the residents of Saltwood have been blessed with this thoroughly welcoming little operation. It was once the local shop, and one side of the room retains its original wooden fitted shelves, now filled with wines." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Had an excellent at the Hide and Fox. Great service, and awesome food. Standard of execution was exceptional. The Chef has learnt a lot about Japanese gastronomy, and allies his knowledge with great flair. Highly recommend

Utterly amazing. Visited in July for our 15th wedding anniversary. The food was sublime, wine flight perfectly matched and service, second to none. Thoroughly deserving of their two Michelin stars!

Absolutly delicious food! We enjoyed the 8 course tasting menu. Lovely service. The only negative thing to mention sre the wineglases. We had a good red wine and got a really small glass not fitting the vulouptions redwine and when we ordered a new bottle they poored in the dame glas with still old wine the new wine. Otherwise it was a fantastic experience!

There aren’t enough superlatives to describe Hide and Fox. The food is exquisite, the ambience is perfect, and the service is second to none. From all the fine dining meals, this is genuinely one of the very best. I can’t recommend it highly enough. The chefs absolutely smashed it, and Alice and Annabelle were first class all night. Everyone at Hide and Fox should be super proud of what they’ve created. It’s banging!

In my opinion, one of my best fine dining experiences ! Out of all these 1-2-3 star Michelin star restaurants that I have tried so far, this was definitely the best value for money. Can’t fault the service, enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, nice chats with the front of house lady and the chef. Food wise, they well accommodated my sister’s requirements. I can taste the hearts going into it! Every dish tasted nice and had creativity. Even the sidekick- home made bread was very impressive! And also the flow of the whole menu was nice, I mean it’s a common fault I find a lot of fine dining places make: each dish had its own character but they don’t go together. I certainly felt this menu was working really well together. Oh forgot to mention, the wine collection was also splendid! Will definitely be back!

A week later, and we’re still vividly recalling the flavours, aromas, and artistry of every dish we experienced at Hide and Fox. The 8-course tasting menu is the kind of culinary journey that stays with you—refined, imaginative, and deeply memorable. The Orkney scallops with caviar were an early standout— delicate and perfectly balanced. The East Kent lamb (personal favourite) was a masterclass in complexity, its subtle smokiness and depth of flavour truly captivating. Earthy morels in a delicate consommé, vibrant Wye Valley asparagus followed—each dish more thoughtful than the last. The Comté soufflé was indulgent and perfectly executed, leading into a dessert course that was nothing short of divine: a citrus-lifted buttermilk mousse with arbequina olive oil, followed by an ethereal Yorkshire rhubarb and white chocolate parfait—light, floral, and exquisitely balanced. A bottle of crisp, expressive white Burgundy accompanied our meal beautifully. The ambiance at Hide and Fox is both intimate and sophisticated, with warm, attentive service that enhances the experience without ever feeling overbearing. While the menu is firmly rooted in modern British cuisine, there are subtle Italian influences and a certain creative kinship with Fordwich Arms, which we visited last Christmas. Hide and Fox stands elegant, thoughtful, and unforgettable. We will definitely come back!

I was taken here for my birthday and we had one of the best meals of our lives. We had the 8 course tasting menu with paired wines. Every course was outstanding. My particular favourites were the Morels, with confit egg yolk, pickled mushrooms and celeriac and the buttermilk mousse with blood orange, Arbequina olive oil and apple marigold. The restaurant is fairly small and cosy, all the waitresses were lovely and helpful. They explained the meals well and the sommelier's description of the wines was very clear and helpful. The wines tended to be from small estates all over the world and were excellent without exception. The meal was expensive, but compared to other Michelin starred restaurants we have been to, it was very good value for money. The restaurant is in Saltwood on the edge of Hythe and it is a good idea to book a taxi back to where you are staying in good time as there are no local taxi services. I have been to a good number of one Michelin star restaurants and this one is well worth the second start it gained recently.

We had a fabulous meal last night with wonderful staff who described all 5 courses plus amuse bouche! Highly recommended for a special meal to celebrate any occasion. The cocktails were good too!
