Café Escondido

This place is a hidden gem. The ambiance is amazing. It almost feels like your on vacation and not in L.A. They are open on the weekend and not permanently closed as some people have claimed on Yelp. The food is very good... cooked over a wood burning grill. The smell of the wood burning and the food cooking is amazingl The service is good and everyone is very laid back and relaxed. I met some other customers who are regulars and they all were very nice. Give them a try... you won't regret it. Enjoy!

This restaurant was super cute. It feels like it was teleported out of some lil barrio in Mexico. The food was reasonably priced and the chicken specifically was really, really good. Even my daughter ate it and she is notoriously picky. They also had horses and chickens in the nursery section which she loved. The service was at lazy pace which felt perfect for the vibes, but I would not come here if I was in a rush. It was a perfect lazy, weekend lunch.

This gem was transplanted from Mexico. I love how they nestled a small menu cafe inside a lush plant nursery. The friendliness of the staff is unparalleled. We parked our RV and a gardener said he’d watch over it. Great servers. I found the ceramic mugs so charming that when we were all finished, I asked if any were for sale. She said no, but gave me three!!! What a wonderful place.

Wow what an incredible find and what a brilliant idea putting a restaurant in a garden centre. It truly is hidden away and it feels like a whole other world. I was immediately transported to a farm stay in Guatemala, the smell of wood smoke, the rough hew. Wooden tables, the traditional clay pots and earthenware and music. The food did not disappoint, cooked over an open hearth. The waitress was delightful and when I said I was a little sad I got a tin cup instead of a clay mug for my coffee she immediately went to grab me another delicious spiced café de olla. As others have said, food is not served quickly. Take the time to enjoy the lovely covered outdoor seating area amongst the plants for sale, introduce yourself to the rooster and order yourself a morning cerveza. I ordered the fiesta bowl and the flame cooked meat was delicious and portion size plenty. The guacamole was also outstanding. Maybe one thing yet lack are hand made tortillas. They were out of Jamaica and I half expected them to run and grab some hibiscus flowers and prepare some.. but that would be ridiculous. Menu is limited and that's just fine.

Café Escondido is a magical escape into a secret rainforest. If he was still around, it would have the potential to be in Jonathan Gold’s list of top restaurants in LA. So why the 3 stars? I’ve only been here once. It wasn’t a crowded day, and we were before the lunch rush. We ordered food and waited. And waited. And waited. After flagging down the waiter twice, we finally got chips and salsa 35 minutes after ordering (the chips are made fresh, but still….). And after flagging him down again, 15 minutes later he said “oh I thought you already had your food, let me check.” We did not have our food. He pulled up our order on his iPad and the order was still not in the kitchen. After more than an hour, we finally received our food and the order was wrong. The coffee is amazing. The salsa is to die for and adds a beautiful smokiness to everything it touches. That’s why we’ll be back. But the service needs improvement—there was another family there who was refunded bc one of their meals never showed up.

Wow this place has the best view with plants and flowers food and people is amazing… I feel like I teleportering to Mexico 😝 100% recommendations
