The 19 Best Restaurants In Montauk 2024

"Located in the Cove Marina, The Hideaway is a casual little shack that’s home to some of Montauk’s best Mexican food. With fresh seafood (make sure to get some ceviche), tacos, platos, and an impressive cocktail menu, this is one of our favorite places to grab a casual meal away from the rowdiness of some of the nearby bars and hotels. Vegan elote, and more plant-based options, are also worth visiting for." - melissa kravitz hoeffner, team infatuation

The Hideaway - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"Trying to not spend $100 a person on fancy drinks and a kind-of-average piece of halibut you don’t really want anyway? Head to Hideaway for coastal and casual Mexican dishes including ceviche, crispy fish tacos, shrimp burritos, beers, and margaritas. There’s lots of outdoor seating, with plenty of picnic benches near the water, and a kids menu that makes this spot nice for early evening family gatherings—before the weekend DJ dance parties, of course. Dogs are welcome outside also. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Take this review with a grain of salt because we didn't actually get into Hideaway, as they were over capacity at 10pm. I was with my clout friend and knew it was bad when the bouncer denied his platinum clout card. I never seen it decline in my life....... They said we could order a drink and hang out on the patio, but couldn't actually get inside or order food as the kitchen closed at 9:30. The group of 10 I was with began to deliberate if we should head back to NYC or hang out on the patio for awhile and wait in quiet desperation. I didn't really care so I just lit up one of the little cigars I had and chilled in the parking lot, which was essentially an active construction zone. There were cranes, piles of lumber, shipping crates, etc. all on top of a gravel parking lot. I felt like I was on a movie set. I had a clear view of the stars too which was so humbling. Like damn I'm just here on this floating rock in the middle of the universe. None of this really matters so I'm just gonna have a good time. Moving from LA to NYC, the 2 most light polluted cities in the US, I never get to see the true night sky. It always gets me existential. We ended up dipping like 20 minutes later, but highly recommend coming here and smoking a cigar in the parking lot and pondering your existence if nothing else. Ig @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

Great place for food and drinks and views of the water were spectacular. Great for boat lovers too as it is located at the marina. Tacos, nachos, beers, and margarita’s are a must. Outdoor and covered seating with an exceptional staff and bartenders. A must do if you’re in Montauk.

Google
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hideaway in Montauk is a fantastic spot for families! The food and drinks were amazing, and the environment was perfect for both adults and kids. There were plenty of seats and lots of space for the kids to play around. We loved the live music from Kevin the Kind, and the bubble and cotton candy machine was a delightful touch that kept our kids entertained. We'll definitely be back next summer! Highly recommend!

This place is a total hidden gem on the waterfront. The steak burrito with super minimal ingredients was divine! The guacamole was delicious. The staff was fast and friendly. Highly recommended if you are in the mood for tasty Mexican cuisine.

My and my husband’s favorite restaurant in montauk. The food and drinks are delicious, extremely family+pet friendly, great vibes, great music, and even better service. A very fun late night spot as well, and they do a great job of bringing in live music and DJ’s. 1000000% recommend.

I usually LOVE this place, but I was a bit disappointed when a girlfriend and I went for Ladies Night, and like 6 dudes were let in before us and another group of 3 ladies. PLUS, if it's Ladies night, shouldn't there be drink specials?

Google
Love this place!! Came on a weekend and ordered a bunch of apps including ceviche, nachos, and the crudo. We also got the carne asada and fish tacos absolutely loved it all and recommend if you are looking for good tacos / Mexican food in Montauk. The vibes are fun, it’s right on the water and the service was great.

Yelp
My friend took us to Hideaway as he used to come to the waterfront area with his family for years. It's a fun vibe with live music and a great outdoor covered patio, but the food is overpriced for what it is. Two tacos for $18 is outrageous, but that's Montauk for you. $9 for elote and creamy corn each, we passed on the $17 guac. Food was flavorful enough, wouldn't say it was particularly authentic. Overall good vibes/experience but would probably opt for dinner elsewhere.

Yelp
Hideaway has good vibes, good food, and good people. The bartender was a real pro, and was very attentive and helpful DONT sleep on the Hideaway!

Yelp
Great, casual taco spot in town. The food and drinks were yummy, the vibe inside and out was good and fun. The inside is a bit small but there is a nice outdoor area facing the marina for when the weather is warm. The staff was quick and attentive. I'd recommend getting here on the earlier side as it gets busy even on an off season weekend like this one, it was still pretty busy, which is great. The chips and guacamole were tasty + the chicken, steak, and shrimp tacos were good. It is on the pricier side of things but that's also Montauk for you. I'd definitely recommend and will be back on my next visit to town.

Yelp
This is still my favorite place to grab a drink and have some typically great food. What happened to the food? This was a top tier spot, with homemade hot sauce and great Mexican recipes. I've been a returning customer for years and for the first time ever for a place that I've loved things are a little different this time.. What was once my most memorable iconic taco recipes, has now blended to your average Mexican spot and what was once the best homemade hot sauce I've ever had has been replaced with Cholulah. WHAT IS GOING ON?

Yelp
The worst place ever the dj is awful and doesn't know music and how to make i don't even think they have a dj, he just plays others Spotify

Yelp
After eating unseasoned riffraff on Montauk for 2 days, I lost it and needed some food with flavour. I heard that a Mexican restaurant existed and thought that I needed some food containing at least 1 seasoning or 1 herb. A decent taco can be had at Hideaway, but it's not memorable at all, especially when coming from Brooklyn or Mexico. I had a fish taco as well as a pork taco and they left me feeling like I should have just drank water and gone to bed early. An overpriced $9 taco that only has 1 tortilla is the epitome of the establishment being downright cheap. The 1 soggy tortilla broke down in my hands like a paper takeout bag when you get caught in the rain. The taste was weaker than the feeling of the tacos disintegrating in my hands.

Yelp
Came here later in the evening and had a great time. I was on Molly, but the breeze felt absolutely amazing. Good mix of people there, seems like an accessible spot to stop by if you're around the area. Side note: they were out of bud light. Who runs out of bud light?!

Yelp
A hidden treasure in Montauk! The views outside are beautiful, and the food is delicious! I ordered a chicken burrito and the chips with guacamole and it was perfect. Very flavorful and delicious. Also, the service was friendly and attentive at the bar. The prices are a little expensive especially for a burrito but it includes queso and guacamole but it is worth it, especially in Montauk. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Great vibe, watermelon margarita cocktails, burrito's. Entertainment most nights: bands, djs, salsa night.

Hannah G.

Yelp
Delicious food and great atmosphere! You order your food at the bar and they give you a buzzer for when it's ready. The picnic tables are right by the dock, and they play great music. Everything we ordered was delicious- tacos, burritos, nachos. Casual, great spot for a bite to eat.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Tasty food, great service. Nice ambiance. Authentic music. Guacamole and tacos were a little bland but still good. Only issue I had was that the tacos were tiny and they cost 9 dollars for a single taco! 9 dollars is normal the cost of a large burrito. I know this place is located out East and things are normally more expensive but still! I ended up buying 2 tacos and an appetizer of chips and guacamole and I'm still hungry! I'm a fairly thin woman but I would have liked to have a lunch that didn't leave me still feeling hungry! If you're in the mood for a place with decent drinks and apps, and looking for a place to relax then this is your place. But if you're looking for a place to fill you up at a reasonable price- this isn't it.

Yelp
We came here on our way home from Montauk as it seemed to have a variety of different food options. The food was okay. It lacked flavor and basic seasoning such as onion and garlic. I will say their Elote was very good and they did make it spicy for us. It was $6 for an entire corn and I thought that was very reasonable. The nachos were $19 and very small. I don't eat that much but even I could finish an entire thing of their nachos. Definitely overpriced. Vibe - It's by water and they have nice seating outdoor seating Service - It's a self serve place. We have to go to the bar to order and go to the bar to pick up our food. I noticed other people were getting their food dropped to their table but it seemed like that was because they knew someone who worked there. Considering the price of the food I think the service could have definitely been better. Overall, the views and ambiance were nice but I would probably try another restaurant if I'm in the area again.

Yelp
Hands down favorite spot in Montauk. Family friendly lunch and dinner spot with a fun bar scene at night. Perfect place to escape the riffraff in town. Tuna crudo is the best I have ever had. Fish and steak tacos were out of this world but the vegan taco with sweet summer corn was my absolute favorite. Friendly staff, relaxing ambiance and great selection of fresh margaritas. Plus frozen cocktails! I might as well have a running tab here. Love everything about this place!

Yelp
Great tacos, great margaritas. Didn't break the bank. Pretty sure I've paid more for breakfasts in Montauk than I did eating lunch here. Good place to go if the sun's out.

Yelp
Amazing food. Amazing staff. Amazing drinks. Off the beaten path just enough to make you feel like you're dining at a local spot. Must go to!

Adam S.

Yelp
Way to kill a classic Montauk spot...service is non-existent, prices are through the roof ($9 for a single street taco? $25 burrito?), portions are minuscule, every order is screwed up, and drinks were half filled, the one order of corn was burnt to sh!t, and it wasn't just us... while I waited in line to order, several people came up to say something was missing from their order. Sure enough after I was told a half hour wait, we waited an hour and they screwed up our order. The bartender acted like she didn't want to be there and when the 'classic' margaritas (on tap) kicked, she handed me a 3/4 full margarita and then proceeded to take 20 minutes making another 3/4 full margarita but charged me the full $17 for each. (She had to take the shaker in the back because she couldn't figure out how to get it open)... Oh and granted this is not a 'martini' place but with a full bar, my father in law ordered a Bombay Sapphire martini and was charged $35 for a quarter cup of gin in a plastic cup! F-this place. Completely ruined an old favorite. Hint: you can make money, and provide good service, and good food...all at the same time. You are waaaaay out of balance and that is why this place will fail. Greed and poor service. You can't ask me to pay $25 for a burrito that I have to serve myself and then bus my own table. Get a clue. Ps. Oh and I'm typing this from the toilet because I have food poisoning. Thanks 'New' Hideaway

Pete M.

Yelp
not the hideaway of old.....limited drink and food options all of them expensive and disappointing $34 fish plate with 2 - 3 oz piece of fish and cup of rice, refried beans and tortilla $9 tacos - each $18 small cup of ceviche with chips seems they are trying to recoup their investment...won't be back montauk just ain't the same

Yelp
Heard good things and was in the mood for some tacos + margs, but left very disappointed and will not return. Our drinks were good, but all the food we ordered (guacamole, chicken tacos, steak tacos, fish tacos, chicken quesadillas) were small portions (considering the price), were bland, and came without at least one topping and/or accompaniment. For example, the chicken tacos came without the avocado crema, the steak tacos came without the pickled onion, the quesadillas came without the sour cream + pico de gallo. We ultimately asked for sides of sour cream + pico de gallo and were only brought the sour cream. We ordered a chicken quesadilla to go and when we got home we discovered that there was no chicken at all! Staff was somewhat friendly but not attentive at all. I would let that slide if the restaurant had been crowded, but it was a very quiet night (only 4 small parties while we were there) and all but one group was sitting at the bar. All in all, we were very disappointed with our experience.

Natalia S.

Yelp
Really intimate vibe great music great drinks fresh margs bar staff so cute and friendly. Made our trip

Angela C.

Yelp
I come here a little too frequently but I'm not mad about it! The owners and staff are so friendly and pleasant- always with smiles on their faces! The view is beautiful, the backyard is fun and chill or can be much more lively and social. There's firepits going, dancing, Dj's.. drinks are flowing and the tacos are great! I'm a proud neighbor to see what TinTin, Charlotte, Zach, Ali, and the rest of the gang have made of this place. Love these guys and look forward to many more nights here!

Yelp
What an amazing revamp! Hideaway is such a hidden gem offering waterfront views, delicious food, and the most welcoming service. I hosted a large party and they could not have been more accommodating, friendly, and hospitable. Everyone in the group thought the food was great and enjoyed the vibes. Cannot say enough great things about hideaway or recommend more. Thank you so much Charlotte & team!!

G L.

Yelp
Alex V's review perfectly summed this up for me. Was a big fan of the original Hideaway and was sorry to see it go. Wanted to give the new Hideaway a try. The owners did a super job with the place, it's an awesome hangout. I ordered the ceviche and was so disappointed. It came in a small cup and it barely filled the bottom. I should have taken a picture. I was shocked. It was $17 and I still can't believe that someone thought that was acceptable to serve for that price. The ceviche at the old Hideaway was amazing. Then we ordered the carnitas tacos. The size was fine for $8 but they were so greasy, very unappetizing. I do hope the owners take reviews into consideration and make necessary changes. I would love to see the place survive and thrive. But seriously, something has to be done about the ceviche.

Alexa S.

Yelp
This is our favourite spot in MTK. Great staff, margeritas, and our favourite steak tacos in montauk!! highly recommend

Cornelia A.

Yelp
This place screams VACATION! I will definitely be going back for more great food, vibes, music, cocktails, and a good time. Food options are really good especially if you like fresh quality ingredients. It is sitting on the dock of a marina with a serious I am on vacation view. If you want to escape the Hamptons this is the ONLY place to go.

Adam J.

Yelp
Best service in all of long island! The food is incredible and the vibe can't be beaten... they play great music, have the best looking crowd and staff ;) It's, by far, my favorite place to go in Montauk... It's also the least pretentious place I can think of around

Lindsey D.

Yelp
Really good no frills Mexican spot in Montauk!! I loved the fish burrito and ceviche. Such a fun place with good vibes and great service. Definitely stop by.

Rachel S.

Yelp
Feels like home. The tacos and queso are out of this world. An amazing views of the marina! Very recommended!

Emilee J.

Yelp
If you feel like waiting an hour for a $9 taco with four pieces of meat in it then this is the place for you. Otherwise I wouldn't waste your time here.

Ryan N.

Yelp
Food is fine. But it's CRAZY OVERPRICED. $17 should buy three times as much ceviche as they give you. And $9 for ONE taco?! Just nuts. Manhattan restaurants or more affordable than this.

Ginger G.

Yelp
I hesitate to knock a business during the stresses of Covid, and don't usually write reviews, but this place was such a major disappointment. We were looking for a simple place with decent food to have a relaxed meal and loved the sound of the Hideaway. While the place is charming and has potential, the owners are clearly looking to fleece visitors with overpriced, mediocre "Mexican" food. We waited over 45 minutes in a near empty restaurant for food that would be passable at half of the price being charged. Ceviche was minuscule and rather bland. Tacos were fine but definitely not worth the price or wait. Salsas are jarred? Tortillas are stale. Fish was not great. Nothing here justifies the price point. After waiting 45 minutes for food, and then being presented food that was laughable in it's food:quality ratio (forget about the sublime food of Puerto Escondido that they reference) I felt that it was necessary to give people a fair warning. Your money will be better spent anywhere else. It's difficult to run a restaurant during a pandemic - staffing, food prices, etc. But it seems that this place is using it as a way to gouge visitors to Montauk. If the food was better all would be more acceptable.

Kylie D.

Yelp
INCREDIBLE service!!! My family has been coming to Montauk our whole lives and we always stay around the corner from here. We've always loved the hideaway for its hidden charm and fun atmosphere and were sad to find it closed last summer. We found out it had reopened this summer under new management. My family of 5 sat down and had some drinks (great options, frozen or on the rocks, seltzer's, etc) and soon ordered some dinner. After about 45 minutes without any food and seeing other tables getting their food, we went up to make sure something hadn't been forgotten. We found out the order had been placed, made, and put out on the counter, but another group had taken it accidentally and no one ever knew. The staff was EXTREMELY apologetic, and immediately told us all our drinks were on them. When we talked to them a bit longer, one of the owners came by and said the ENTIRE meal was on them and that the food would be out within 5 minutes. It was only about 3-4 minutes and our food was out. Before we even remembered we had paid cash for the food initially, the owner comes out with all of our cash to return to us (nearly $100) and again apologized. We talked to them for a while about how much we loved the Hideaway and that we were glad it was back under the new owners. The food was wonderful (highly recommend the ahi tuna). My dad (normally very hard to please) was even starstruck. We will definitely be coming back!!! Thank you hideaway!!!

Taylor W.

Yelp
The Hideaway embodies everything Montauk means to us. A laid back vibe, high quality food, great drinks, waterfront views, and a staff that makes you feel like long time friends. This is one of the most underrated spots on Montauk, but don't tell your friends because we like it that way.

Blair H.

Yelp
Solid spot for dinner and laughs with friends. Loved the ambiance, loved the vibe, and LOVED the tacos (got the fish! SO good!). Highly recommend the margs, too.

Alex C.

Yelp
Awesome hidden Gem. Authentic Mexican food on the water, cant beat it. Dustin took great care of us. Its a must do when in Montauk!

Ava K.

Yelp
this place used to be one of my family's favorite places in Montauk, and my younger cousins were so excited to get a burrito here for their first time visiting after covid. Unfortunately since reopening the place has changed and not for the better. The setting is cute, and the drinks and service were good, but the food was overall lacking with shockingly tiny portions. The kids burrito pictured was EIGHT dollars and was about 4 inches long, and was enough food for a small dog. They couldn't add even a little rice to the burrito, which came only with beans and cheese. The options for those who don't eat meat are slim, with the only one veggie taco that came with "fried seasonal vegetables", which were just one slice of fried avocado. One of those veggie tacos is also nine dollars. The elotes and meat based tacos were good, but still this place is nothing overall compared to what it used to be. With severely mediocre and greatly overpriced food I would no longer recommend.
