New Restaurants and Bars That Have Opened in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Replacing Mr. Spicy, this place specializes in xiao long bao and boiled dumplings with fillings like pork and shrimp or beef and onions, and extends into comforting Chinese favorites such as dan dan noodles, house special chow mein, honey walnut shrimp, and orange chicken." - Candice Woo

Recently moved close to this area and what an amazing little hidden gem! It’s located in a small shopping center close to the cuppa cuppa drive through which is why I noticed it. Parking is fairly easy and there’s never a wait. My husband and I have dined in twice now and both time have been a great experience. You are greeted when you enter and you can pick your table. The server/cashier will bring you water. You scan the QR code on the table and order through your phone! Very user friendly, they also have physical menus if people prefer that. We tried their cucumber salad 10/10 such nice vinegar and oil flavor (great pallet cleanser). Xaio Long Bao are a must try! 20/10 they’re that good! The Szechuan spicy wontons are 10/10, if you’re familiar with Szechuan and can handle the tingly numbing feel of the chili, you’ll love these! My husband also tried the orange chicken and that was a 9/10 very natural orange flavor and coated well! Overall all the dishes we’ve tried have been amazing. Definitely recommend

The food is good here. We got here before 6:30 on a weekend and got seated right away. Just scan the QR code on the table to order from the menu. Great service and we didn't have to wait long for the food to come out. The chicken portion is a little bit small but the kids liked it. Price is reasonable. Parking is easy to find.

Google
Attractively priced and absolutely delicious dumplings! The portions are generous, so you really get great value for your money. The staff is super friendly and helpful, making the experience even better. A fantastic casual spot for dumplings. I highly recommend!

Google
I was looking to try a new dim sum place nearby and found this hole in the wall restaurant. Plenty of parking and there was only one other group eating there when we came in. We ordered the pork xlb, shrimp xlb, shumai, and beef noodle soup. The dim sum had the perfect amount of dough to filling ratio and was seasoned well—not too doughy like some places. Loved the beef noodle soup as well, noodles had a nice al dente texture with tender beef and broccoli—the broth was very flavorful too. Definitely coming back next time and will try the spicy beef noodle soup to compare. The food took 10-15 minutes to come out but it was well worth the wait since it was made fresh. If you’re looking for a no-frills restaurant with great food/prices it’s definitely worth trying.

Google
Wow! Just wow!. Great service. Fresh, beautiful and delicious food.🤤 I'm 100% coming back and recommended. Boiled, stemmed or pan fried options. A highlight for anti-pork eaters....Beef dumplings too! 🥰 💥Easy parking too. Way better than the convoy district!

Google
Food is great, have eaten from here twice, always to-go. String beans are simpler than other places, but they're still good and I appreciate them not overpowering the other dishes. The spicy crispy chicken is good but feels that the plate comes with more peppers than chicken. Definitely going back.

Google
Nice & smooth service 👍🏽 Atmosphere was authentic & was greeted warmly. Food was delicious! Purchased chicken fried rice, pork & shrimp dumplings, and wonton soup. Flavor was on point for everything! Chicken was tender. Will be ordering again from here!

Google
Came on a whim with my wife and son for lunch. So glad we did! We got the soup dumplings, pork buns, fried dumplings, and scallion pancakes, all of which were excellent. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Definitely will be coming back!

Yelp
Delicious! Reasonable price, good fun little dumpling house. Recommend! Got the Mongolian, Dan Dan and soup dumplings!

Yelp
This restaurant is such a cozy, comfort meal kind of spot. I doordash or pickup from here at least once a month because I know that I will get reliable, tasty food every time. I usually order the beef broccoli noodles, xiao long bao, eggplant in brown sauce, or wontons in red sauce. I've also ordered the green beans with garlic which is a solid veggie option. When I order the beef broccoli noodles, I usually am fed for about 2-3 meals and it is equally tasty (if not more) heated up the next day! The xiao long bao is something I order when I feel like treating myself and while it's not spectacular, it is a very solid version of the dish. It always comes piping hot with lots of soup inside and a great, soft filling. The eggplant in brown sauce is to die for. It started my love for Chinese eggplant dishes, and inspired me to start cooking it as a part of my repertoire. The wontons are spicy. I am not very good at spice but I would say it has a kick and has more of the mala spice that numbs your lips and throat. The service is always quick and everyone is so kind! I really truly recommend this spot for a cozy chinese takeout night!

Yelp
Easy to order for pick up. Parking can be a little tricky since it's a small lot but plenty of spaces are typical available and street parking. I ordered the Dan Dan noodles which are very spicy! I could handle the heat from the spicy wontons. The Dan Dan was a different level of heat. I really enjoyed the spicy wontons. The staff was friendly and was sure the instruct me to mix the sauce throughly.

Yelp
Very nice people who work here. The food is ok. I was expecting more based on the reviews but then again, there aren't a whole lot of great food choices in Allied Gardens or in the area. So for this area I guess this place is above average? Maybe? I would suggest finding a place off Convoy if you are in the mood for authentic dumplings. This place is not bad but it's not a place I'd suggest to get really good dumplings or food - thus the 3 stars.

Yelp
Start by saying, front staff is very nice. Restaurant has sit down seating and parking lot has plenty of parking. Food wise, it was ok. The sodium flavor was through the roof on the rice and the same for oil flavor and oil texture on the chow mein. Neither in a good way. The chow mein really didn't pack much of any flavor. Orange chicken pieces were favorable size but texture was a bit on the chewy side. Portion for the rice was good but definitely fell way short on the chow mein. I literally am shook I only got what I got for $13. Especially considering what I used to get when this place was Mr. Spicy. Didn't try dumplings here but maybe I will come back to do so since that is what the name is now.

Yelp
My friend and I shared the cucumber salad, scallion pancakes, xiao long bao, and spicy wontons from here back in May of 2024. I think everything tasted okay, but nothing was outstanding or memorable. The cucumber salad only had garlic and the xiao long bao didn't have enough soup in it. The space was clean and service was a little slow too. We waited 5 minutes between each dish, so the last dish took 20 minutes to make. Hopefully they have improved since then, since this spot has a lot of potential.

Yelp
Here on a Friday night and no wait. It's a holiday weekend so maybe people are out of town. We tried to scan at the table to order but when I hit submit, it disappeared. They then came to the table and took the order. Parking lot isn't very big so that could be a challenge. The noodle soups are big bowls! Share so you can try other things. Spicy beef noodle soup is spicy. The won ton noodle and the beef noodle are good for kids. The steamed and the fried dumplings are good. You can choose how you want them prepared. The green beans are slightly spicy for me, but I can't handle much heat. Everything was good. We would come back.

Yelp
My friends & I tried their food out for the first time. Service was just ok, it would have been nice to have been offered water after my glass was empty...or to have been checked on to see if we needed anything. We ordered several entrees pictured... it was all just ok. Tables were clean, plenty of parking. Scan to order- for some reason all three of us found it confusing on how to order the food. If I come back, I'd order the orange chicken.

Yelp
Found them on Yelp. Close to home. Really cool spot tucked away off Mission Gorge. Service was great! The lady was very kind and patient and made is feel comfortable. We ordered a few things off the menu just to get a feel of the place and everything was super delicious!! Best part is this place is very reasonably priced! Love that! I recommend trying this place if you want homemade Asian food! And good vibes!
google avatar

Crystal B.

Yelp
Really good dumplings - Spicy wontons were really spicy (I love spicy)! Pork and shrimp wontons were yummy as well. I enjoyed the shrimp fried rice, but my husband thought the rice was too oily. The spicy crispy chicken had great flavor but way too salty. Overall, go for the dumplings.
google avatar

Isabel J.

Yelp
This place is very unassuming but they have fast service and the soup dumplings are delicious!! We came here on a Friday night and you can tell they are busy with take outs but not too many dine in. You can order through the QR code so you don't have to wait for them to come by. My favorite were the green beans, the original Xiao long bao (soup dumplings), and the custard bao for dessert! We got the spicy wonton and the crab xiao long bao and I was thought the crab was a bit too fishy for my taste. The price is very reasonable! If you're looking for for a good xiao long bao place that is fast and casual, come here!
google avatar

Yelp
This is my new favorite dumpling place! We got 3 dishes and all were great - in quality and price. I do wish they had more variety of dumpling fillings though! You order from the QR code at your table and pay at the cashier after. The dumplings are made to order so there's a little wait for them, but it's worth it. I'm excited to come back and try their pan fried version of the dumplings and other menu items.

Yelp
This is a really underrated spot! Super delicious and juicy dumplings. Love everything we tried.
google avatar

Yelp
Returned for a second batch of dumplings--this time bringing my PSO. She LOVED the pan-fried pork & cabbage dumplings. We tried the soup dumplings, too. They were good and juicy, but not as flavorful as the pork & cabbage dumplings. I got the OK for a return whenever I want!

Yelp
Once upon a time, on any given day, one could visit Convoy street for great Asian foods and easily find parking and table with no wait. Impossible today! So I've been seeking out Non-Convoy Asian restaurants... Hi Dumplings has a Cute AF logo! And the dumplings are quite good! The soup dumplings are great! Feels very homemade, with nice chewy dough and lovely hot soup inside. Not quite as good as Din Tai Fung, but cheaper. Din Tai Fung runs $1.75/dumpling, versus $1.38/dumpling at Hi Dumpling. The vegetarian dumplings pan fried were also quite tasty, I'll have to try the meat versions next time! Minus one star though...the chow mein is pretty average, and too many bean sprouts. You're here for food, not the clean but simple and boring ambiance...though you can legit see the aunties and uncles cooking your food fresh.

Yelp
First time I dined in. This time I got to go. They packaged very nicely! I got steamed pork buns 5/5. Tasty, buns so soft and moist! Meat was just the right amount of sweetness. Orange chicken 4/5. Tasty and cute with the orange slices. Tangy but meat to outer skin ratio was very small. Luckily I don't like big chunks of meat but for most this would be very small pieces of chicken. The rest was my boyfriends so I can't rate lol. I had one bite of the spicy crispy chicken but I was not a fan because of the Szechuan chilis! Those make your tongue numb so just not my style. I was too full to try his other dishes but overall a good spot for Chinese food. Good parking.

Tessa

Yelp
Excellent place!! Food was served hot and timely, and absolutely delicious. Workers here are very sweet and helpful. Could not recommend this place enough!!!

Yelp
We've eaten here a few times and the in restaurant experience is great. But last night I got take out via Ubereats pickup and the Mongolian beef was 90% onion. I would've sent it back if we were eating in the restaurant. Luckily I had also gotten a bunch of dumplings and my kid was able to fill up but it was really disappointing and unacceptable. This is your sign to double check each box before you leave or at least take a photo of this happens because Ubereats requires that. Dumplings are yummy tho.

Yelp
Rating: 3.5 stars Hubby was craving fried rice today and decided to stop by here for dinner yesterday evening after work. This is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. Inside, its modest ambiance really does nothing for me except make me focus on the food. We were promptly seated and given our menus quite quickly. Water was also provided, but oddly in plastic, non-reusable cups. We ordered the xiao long bao, shao mai, braised string bean, salt & pepper wings, and the shrimp fried rice. The dumplings were really good, with the shao mai surprisingly very filling! They were very tasty dumplings. The wings we could have done without - I felt there were more peppers and onions served than wings in that dish. The fried rice was good, simple and tasty. But probably my favorite dish had to be the string beans - it is definitely a must if you stop by. Overall, good place to stop by if craving dumplings in the area, but definitely left feeling like I've had better as well.

Yelp
I tried the Mongolian Beef and paid for the side bowl of white rice. It was good but I will order dumplings next time.
google avatar

Yelp
I keep coming back! This place has amazing food, amazing service, and super cute environment. The staff is incredibly thoughtful and warm. I am obsessed with the beef dumplings, the spicy soup, and their spicy crunchy chicken dishes are awesome. The food is affordable and delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Figured we try a new spot for some dumplings and XLB. They were good. Ended up ordering wonton noodle soups too. Wonton noodle soup tastes homemade, not too salty. The spicy Szechuan soup was very spicy and gave that numbing effect. It was a bit too much for us we couldn't finish it. Everything was just ok. The food took over 30 min to come out so we got pretty hangry. There was only one other party dining in but there were many to go orders, everyone was waiting. Items are affordably priced. I wish the menu had a little more. Parking lot right out front.
google avatar

Elvin D.

Yelp
Nice mom and pop Chinese spot, I'd say it's pretty authentic when I saw the cooks in the back. They got a good size menu. We ordered the Mongolian beef which had good flavor and lots of onions. We also tried the shrimp chow mein, the flavor was there but the noodles didn't taste too good to me. The Xiao Long Bao was ok not much flavor in the meat or soup broth. The best thing I ate was the pan fried pork and shrimp dumplings. It was pack with flavor and super crispy, it was so good we had 2 orders of it. Overall this place 3.5/5. Portions were good, price is affordable and lots of options.

Yelp
Their Xiao Long Baos are some of the best! The ambiance is basic. Steel chairs and wooden tables. What I do appreciate is watching Tom & Jerry playing on the television while we dine. I am enjoying my food and the laughs of the cartoon. This time what we ordered was the Xiao Long Baos, Shao Mai, the Cucumber Salad, and the Chili Oil Noodles. My favorite every time is the Cucumbers Salad. It a must order! I really do enjoy their Xiao Long Baos. There are eight in an order, and we order two each time. Shao Mai was good. It is something I would not typically order, yet it was nice to try it. The Chili Oil Noodles were very tasty, however, too spicy for my taste buds. My partner loved them. It's a restaurant we enjoying going to when we are craving Xiao Long Baos!

Yelp
My son was craving Chinese so I found Hi Dumplings on Yelp. Oh how I wish I didn't find this place. I have to say this was one of the worst Chinese restaurants I've ever eaten at. From the time we were there, Sunday at noon, there was only another table that came in. It was pretty dead. We ordered three dishes : Classic Kung Pao chicken - this was a heavy batter fried chicken bits, very similar to the batter for what you find in fried orange chicken. I don't think this was right because Kung pao chicken shouldn't have heavy batter. It was extremely oily and heavy and no flavor. This was not good 1/5 Combo fried rice - this had shrimp, chicken and pork? Again this dish was so heavy and extremely oily, also way too much sauce (whatever soy sauce mixture they used). The rice was very clumpy. My son who was craving fried rice could not finish this, 1/5 Steamed pork and shrimp dumplings - the filling was nice but the wrapper was too thick I couldn't eat it so I only ate the meat. We could not finish this dish 2/5 Overalll I would not recommend coming here for Chinese food. Poor execution and way too oily for my liking.
google avatar

Lara Mae R.

Yelp
The place was clean, but the service was just okay and the food was mid. I got 2 orders of Xiao Long Bao - The texture was not the best and there was not much soup inside. I also got the Shrimp Fried Rice - It was very clumpy, soaking with oil, and heavy on the soy sauce.

Yelp
Another fabulous dinner at Hi Dumplings. This is one of our go to restaurants in San Diego. We absolutely love the beef and broccoli, the spicy cold noodle, the green beans, and the custard buns. The service is always 10/10 and the owner is there every time we go! They are all so kind and encourage you to try new dishes. It's hard to find good Chinese in San Diego, but look no further!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is great. I love their food and the prices are very reasonable! Everything I have tried is great. The dumplings are amazing and so was the honey walnut shrimp.

Yelp
Good quantity, good quality, good value. Came here early for some late breakfast and I wasn't disappointed. Everywhere from the aesthetic, service, quality, and taste exuded genuine Chinese cuisine. This restaurant reminds me of the Chinese restaurants I would go to all the time and home and I'm looking to come back for more in the future. Fried Eggplants in Brown Sauce: Umami, garlicky, aromatic, tender. The fried eggplants was delicious and paired well with basically every time we ordered. It smelled amazing and tasted good enough to eat alone but not so overbearing to where it couldn't be paired with other items. Scallion Pancakes: Oily, flakey, airy, gelatinous. The scallion pancakes were beautifully fried and had a delicious oily fried aroma and texture. The outside was gently flakey while the inside was slightly gelatinous. Although there wasn't a strong scallion taste or aroma, this made it easily great for dipping into the soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, or what we did which was a combination of all three! Steamed Pork and Shrimp Dumpling: Warm, steamy, soft, rich. The dumplings were filled with a steamy ball of minced pork and shrimp. The filling was bouncy and rich in flavor and was so delicious. The wrapping on the other hand was a had dry and firm. This was a bit surprising since usually steamed dumplings have a softer wrapping but this one was a bit closer to aldente. The wrapping also didn't have much flavor but that made it perfect as a carrier for whatever sauce you wanted to dip the dumplings in and we used a combination of soy sauce, vinegar, and the chili oil! Wonton Soup: Gingery, oily, warm, filling. The dumpling soup had 12 pieces of delicious boiled dumplings. I really enjoyed eating the dumplings with the table sauces. The soup on the other hand was a bit on the oily side and wasn't as rich as I had expected it to be. It could use a bit more salt. Because of that I didn't really drink much of the soup despite it smelling so aromatic. White Rice: The rice was perfectly cooked. IIt was cooked to a doneness where it was soft and palatable but not overly soft to where the grains couldn't be separated. I personally dislike rice that's cooked with too much water since it ends up as a mushy mess so the rice was very much to my liking. You order your items through your phone with a QR code you scan at the table and this makes the service quick and direct. You can also select your tip from your phone but you'll still have to pay at the register in person. The service was quick and employees were all kind and attentive to needs and would refill waters without asking.

Yelp
I came here with my mom on Friday night. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. The parking was easy, and the place was semi-busy; we got the table immediately. Many people seem to take out or pick up. We ordered chicken fried rice, pork xiao long bao ( we wanted to get the crab and pork but were sold out), wonton noodle soup, and BBQ pork buns. The food took a while to come out but they were pretty good. Xiao long bao was juicy, and the dough was good. The fried rice was a bit greasy and didn't have eggs. Still, the chicken was tender and had good seasoning. BBQ bun was also tasty. It came in 4, so we took 2 home, and I had them for breakfast the next day. All the dishes were seasoned well and not salty, and they didn't have the typical strong MSG tasting that Chinese restaurants typically do. The portion and prices are very reasonable. We enjoyed the food and definlty will be back to try more dishes.

Yelp
I found this place to be flavorless and lacking depth in the soup dumplings. I went here with a few coworkers and was excited to try this place as it's fairly new. However, the food needs work. The dumplings were pretty doughy and the minced meat inside was lacking salt. The broth that came outside of the soup was bland as well. Shu Mai was heavy on the pork and minimal on the shrimp. Chow mein was decent but not great: Dan Dan noodles were extremely flavorless and soaked in oil. I wouldn't order those again, the spice level was good though. Cucumber salad was lacking salt and vinegar. Maybe this place is the right place for someone else but I don't see myself coming back.

Yelp
Visited 7/26/2024 I've had this place on my foodie try list for awhile now and Friday was the day. I didn't know what to expect from this little noodle and dumpling restaurant. When I arrived I was met by one of the owners. She was very pleasant with a nice smile and great personality. She explained the menu and different dishes and how they would make any adjustments to heat levels I would like. Very Nice. First a fair amount of seating inside. A single easy to read menu. Lots of free parking. Always a plus. Now for the food I decided to sample. As usual I over ordered. Each dish has a nice serving size. Anyway I had a good amount of leftovers that I was more than happy to have for lunch the next day. I ordered The XLB Soup Dumplings . The Pork Pan Fried Potstickers. The Spicy Wontons. And The House Special Chow Mein. I was surprised all the dishes were very good and I would order them again anytime. I especially enjoyed The House Chow Mein. It was loaded with Shrimp, Beef, Chicken and Pork. A nice large plate. Very Tasty. All the Dumplings were nicely stuffed with fillings. The Spicy Wontons could have been spicer for me. so I added more house made Chili Oil I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu soon. Good prices in todays market. This place is worth a try and has good value for what they serve. Give it a try sometime it you like this type of chow.

Yelp
I was in the area looking for a place to eat, saw the reviews, and thought I'd give it a try. The dumplings were definitely the best thing I ordered-so good. The rest of what I got wasn't as great, though. The Szechuan Spicy Beef Noodle Soup was super spicy, like tongue-numbing spicy, and there were only a few little pieces of beef in it. The salt and pepper chicken wings were tiny. The cucumber salad was okay, but it needed a little more flavor. Service was alright, but they didn't refill the water, which I really needed with that spicy soup. I'd go back for the dumplings, but I'd probably try something else for the sides.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday around noon and easily found parking and seating. We ordered the pork xiao long bao, honey walnut shrimp and shrimp fried rice. The honey walnut shrimp was my favorite, it was delicious and crispy and the sauce was great! The shrimp fried rice was flavorful but kinda dry. The xiao long bao were chewy and the broth inside hot and flavorful. The portions were pretty good as the three of us were stuffed. I would come back if I'm in the area!

Yelp
Good Chinese food! Came on a Sunday around noon and easily found parking and were seated right away. We ordered using the QR code on the table. Got the honey walnut shrimp, xiao long bao, and shrimp fried rice. The honey walnut shrimp was definitely my fav, very crispy and I love the sauce! The fried rice was a big portion and nicely flavored, but pretty dry. The broth in the xiao long bao was good as well. I would come back to try other items

Yelp
The food is GREAT. Love the quality. I am not sure about the online ordering system, I think that it can be useful for who has been there already and knows the menu perfectly. For new customers I believe is always helpful have an interaction with the server if they need any sort of reccomendations. Aside of that, food is just bomb. So so good

Yelp
Hi-Dumplings is a hidden gem of a dumpling restaurant. It's a simple small restaurant with a clean interior. We've come here twice and both times has been excellent. The dumplings are all very juicy and come out piping hot. We ordered the spicy crispy chicken, xiaolong bao, pork and cabbage dumpling (steamed), beef and onion dumpling (pan fried), and the pork and shrimp dumpling (steamed), as well as the Szechuan spicy wontons. Xiaolong Bao-- these were simply amazing. They were filled with soup, a quality that is a must for a good soup dumpling. The soup was flavorful as well. Honestly, the soup was better than Din Tai Fung, however the skin is definitely thicker here than DTF. The dumplings--We loved all three dumplings but our favorite was the pork and shrimp. These were also incredibly juicy whether you order it steamed or pan fried. You can't go wrong with any of the fillings. Szechuan Spicy Wonton-- They had a good spicy kick to it but the Szechuan peppers wasn't overpowering. I recommend if you're looking for something spicy. Spicy Crispy Chicken-- These were fun to munch on and the chicken definitely lived up to the crispy in its name. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They came by to check how the food was and refill water numerous times.

Yelp
We were looking for dumplings on Tuesday and our usual spot was closed. Found this cute small restaurant tucked away off Mission Gorge and Zion just a bit down from Kaiser Zion location. Good parking in a strip mall. The tables have a QR code for the menu and you order on your phone. Everything comes out one at a time. We received the fried rice first. Excellent portion and very flavorful with good size pieces of chicken. BBQ pork buns were nice size and meat to dough ratio was good. Pork was tender and good. We had mixed feelings about the soup dumplings coming in their own foil cup as we usually use a spoon but none of the dumplings spilled open. The cucumber "salad" is smashed cucumber and we made a dumpling dip of chili oil, vinegar, and a splash of soy sauce and dipped the cucumber which helped the flavor alot. The spicy braised beef was extra extra SPICY but very tender. Dan Dan noodles needed more sauce imo. We opted for one diet coke which came in a can. Service was a bit slow and we were the only customers at around 3pm. The staff sat down and enjoyed their family meal but made sure we were ok and kept watch in case we needed anything. Prices were very reasonable. We will definitely go back and try more dishes.

Yelp
Little place with plenty of tables to dine in. Simple Straight to the point menu. Prices are good. Ordered: 2 sets of Xiao Long Bao $10.99 each They were smaller than we normally see and fit nicely in mini individual aluminum bowls. The meat was tender and the soup was flavorful. Mixed with fresh ginger, vinegar, soy sauce and chili oil delicious. Orange Flavored Chicken: $12.99 Small crispy chicken tossed in a thick orange sauce. Was good... Braised String Beans: $11.99 Green beans sautéed with soy sauce fresh garlic pieces and Japanese Peppers left you wanting more. Egg Chow Mein: $9.99 Delicious flavor sautéed with veggies and scrambled eggs. Everything was fresh and delicious.

Yelp
We went because we were craving dumplings. We were not aware of the peppers that produce the numbing effect so we felt uncomfortable during the first two entrees when we were eating the fried chicken and the green beans. Out of all the things we ordered, we only ended up liking about two of the items, which included the noodles and one of the dumplings.

Yelp
Just finished having dinner here a short while ago. I don't know how long it's been here or what, but I feel like I stepped into a little hidden secret. Small dining area, clean and simple decor. it was busy with about 2/3 dining area full and continuous pick up/to go orders. The staff were all attentive, diligent, if not a little frantic, lol. But they were good. Casual atmosphere, they took our orders at the table, then I went to the counter to pay. Egg fried rice was flavorful, a bit on the peppery side... braised green beans and red chilis, luckily it wasn't spice but it was just a hint too salty. The fam enjoyed the pork steamed buns... also liked the beef and onion dumplings with a bit of a thicker, different wrapping texture. The XLB's were good too, it seemed like both dumplings had soup. The youngest enjoyed their potstickers. The orange chicken had a subtle sweet/citrusy flavor, more on the tender side, not really that crispy. Prices are actually really good. A little less than other restaurants with a similar menu. We ended our meal very satisfied. it's worth the 5 stars imo.

Yelp
We were in the area and had a craving for this cuisine. There's a small parking lot available, and the restaurant has plenty of seating. The service was friendly and attentive, and the amazing quality of food, the service was quick after we ordered. I had the egg fried rice, and let me tell you it's perhaps one of the best fried rice dishes I have had in San Diego. The ingredients are fresh, and the portion is big. The restaurant had a nice feel to it, with some light decor and dishes with chopsticks pre-prepped on the tables. They have only been in business for a year and a few months. I strongly recommend this place if you're looking for quality food for a very reasonable price.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurant as we were on the way to a different restaurant within the vicinity. Walking in, I thought it was going to be primarily dumplings because of the name but they offer other Chinese food options, too. I was excited to order the crabmeat Xiao long bao but found out it also had pork in it, so I couldn't try it because my sharing partner couldn't have any. Boohoo. We ended up ordering the scallion pancake, eggplant in brown sauce, veggie chow mein, and Szechuan spicy wonton. Food came out pretty quick, like a Chinese takeout service. The pancake was a little salty for the group's taste but it tasted better when drenched with the brown sauce from the eggplant. The eggplant dish was the best out of everything we ordered. It was perfectly cooked with the delightful sauce. The veggie chow mein was mediocre, and the spicy wonton tasted similar and comparable to other competitors out there. Overall, it wasn't bad. The female employee was pretty friendly compared to the males. Attentive service. Affordable prices, too.

Yelp
The best dumpling place in all of SD! The food is delicious and you really can't go wrong with anything but my favorites are the pan-friend veggie dumplings, cashew shrimp, veggie lo mein, and the taro buns. Those are must-orders! The service is great and everyone is so friendly and attentive. This place is a must!

Yelp
We got take-out & it was a good, spontaneous choice! Beef & Onion dumplings These were very delicious & took extra time to make. Either call ahead or plan to wait. They were worth it! Dan Dan Noodles These were different than I expected, but still pretty delicious. I'm used to it being mixed with ground pork, but this one seemed to not have meat on it. It has the chili icon next to it, but it wasn't spicy (to me) nor was it hot by the time I got it home. I reheated it & it was just as good. Kung Pao Shrimp (w/ rice) This meal was pretty good, could've been spicier, but the texture of the shrimp was quite nice. This is a hearty dish, so easy to save some for later or share with another. Drink: Bottled Oolong Tea Perfect pairing for all of the dishes Service: It took longer than the estimated 15min, but they were kind enough to bring it to our car after we checked in a couple times. Unfortunately, the main dishes weren't as hot because of the dumpling wait, but was an easy fix at-home, so we were satisfied still. I wouldn't mind dining in next time, just so food can come to us as it's ready. It has a pretty basic atmosphere (hole in the wall vibes), but good food is good food. Not everything needs to look social media perfect.

Yelp
Newly renovated Chinese restaurant at the same location as the old Mr. Spicy. This new restaurant has freshly made dumplings, stir fried dishes and noodles. We came here one night wanting to try some new things. We enjoyed their fresh dumplings with pork and vegetables fillings. Really good to try with their house made spicy oil, which is very flavorful. The braised beef noodle soup was pretty good too. The second time we visited we tried a few other items. The Szechuan Spicy Beef Noodle Soup is very spicy!! It is the numbing type of spicy from Szechuan. The egg chow mein was pretty good too. The mixed vegetables salad is pretty simple, I was expected more flavor in this. Overall, a good Chinese restaurant in the mission gorge area. The service is great and very nice. I can see them do well here!
