Hiep Phong BBQ

I was skeptical to come at first because of the bad reviews, but I had a very good experience. Maybe it was the time of day I went (12pm on a Wednesday). The pork smelled very good, just driving home I was tempted to try a piece. When I got home I decided to try a piece cold before reheating it. The flavor was very good and the skin itself was still in tact and very crispy which surprised me. It was even better after I air fried it. I also got their large Steamed Bun. A lot of times steam buns dough can be dense. Not this one, it was very light and fluffy. The ratio between dough and filling was perfect so I enjoyed it very much.

I found this place while looking for someone to prepare a whole pig for a family event. The process was easy: I stopped by three days before to place the order, and on pickup day, they offered to cut the pig for easy serving while keeping the presentation intact. While I waited, I tried their Vietnamese BBQ pork and homemade pandan snacks — both were excellent. I also learned they sell goose eggs, believed to be good for pregnant women. The pig was fantastic, and everyone at the event was impressed! Will definitely be back, and I highly recommend these guys!

Hiep Phong BBQ sells mainly BBQ pork and duck, and the staff speak both Chinese and Vietnamese. They also carry a few other items, but most people come here for the roasted meats. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this place. The duck portion was really small — it looked like only half a duck in the tray compared to other BBQ spots. What bothered me most was that they didn’t provide a receipt, so I couldn’t see the breakdown of prices. I was charged around $60 for one duck and a pound of crispy pork, which seems high since their posted prices were $29 for duck and $11.99 for pork. I didn’t notice the total until after my card went through — my mistake for not checking, but definitely double-check your order and total before paying. Also, I noticed they chopped the meat with bare hands and no gloves, which didn’t feel very sanitary. Overall, the food was okay, but the pricing and hygiene left a bad impression.

Finally able to catch these guys when they are open to try their BBQ. Came here around noon on a Saturday and all their meats were hanging on the rack. Now super exited, I couldn’t help my self so I ordered some roasted pork, roast duck and BBQ pork aka Xa Xiu. Just for FYI, you can’t sit down and eat in here, you have to buy it by the pound and take it home. As the meats are being chopped up and prepared to go, I noticed that they also sell other snacks such as sweet buns, egg rolls, and related Asian groceries that I didn’t bother to look at because I was eyeing their BBQ meats the whole time. A quick look at their prices (see attached) is about the same as other places however, the main difference is the older grandfather behind the counter preparing the meats is super nice and friendly. Anyways enough small talk, the BBQ meats here are amazing. GOLLY, the pork and duck were so damn good that I just couldn’t stop eating it. Both the pork and duck were tender and juicy. The skin on the roast pork was amazingly crispy and the duck was just outstanding. Maybe, I’m exaggerating a bit but it was how I felt when I tried it and I’m sure you will feel the same too. Hiep Phong is a bit away from where I live but I don’t care, I will be a regular here.

We purchase roasted duck and roasted pork here before. It was great. This review is for the recent purchase; the meat was old and roasted but it does not make the old meat taste go away. We ended up throwing out all the meat and only eat the veggie we stir fried with.

Very good Chinese BBQ in the Dallas area. The roast pork was juicy and the skin was crunchy. Prices are reasonable considering how much some places have raised theirs. As a heads up, don’t be shy about making sure what you order is what actually gets placed in the to-go box.

Had the BBQ and roasted pork. Both were good but I had better. I got it in the afternoon around 2pm so it not that fresh. I didn’t expect it to be.

We had a birthday celebration for our friend. Ordered the pig and it was the centerpiece of the celebration. Turned out crispy, juicy both white and dark meats. Everyone enjoyed it. We also had lumpia, tamales, brisket, shrimp salad, a bunch of desserts.

It is a wonderful place when you know what you want. They have a small grocery area you can browse before making your meat selection. It's all cut fresh to order, and the roast the whole pig on site. The skin is crispy, and meat is well seasoned and tender. The duck has a more tender skin, and it isn't a meaty variety, so expect bones and lots of them. If you're looking for a ritzy Instagram experience, you are in the wrong place. The vibe is old school Chinese. Cash is preferred, but they do take plastic as well. Show up, buy your meat, leave. This pork is a work of art based on traditional techniques. I would give it a bib gourmand if I had the power.

Few times we ordered a whole roasted pig. Came out very good. Great texture, even coloration and crispy. The owner cut the whole roasted and put them together carefully that at the end, all the pieces are back together again. Great job. The place itself is clean and just like any typical Asian general store. It sells all kind of spices as well as stuff you needed for praying.

Roasted pork and cuttlefish are excellent. Customer service is good but the store hours kind of threw me off. They open until 7:30pm and locked the door at 7pm.

Amazing roast pork, amazing roast duck!!!! And just incredible steamed chicken. The best bbq I have had including in Vietnam. And I have eaten a lot of bbq. The people at the front chopping up your pork--- they seem to be working there because they want to work there. It seems like a love for what they want to do rather than they have to work. It reminds me of my very hardworking parents who can retire, but decide not to retire because they are bored at home. And they want to see the smiles on the faces of those who buy their incredible bbq. Honestly I'd love to be working there for a few months to learn how to make this epic bbq!!!

The duck was very good when I called was answer promptly the place is nice. Will recommend to friends

This store is committing tax cheating. I saw several customers being asked to pay cash for their purchases and not on credit card transactions. Every time a customer wants to charge their purchase, the guy at the counter would say their machine is broken. The State of Texas should look into this place and investigate the owner for tax fraud.

All bones and fat no meat. Last time visiting this place. Also expensive $21 1/2 duck

Great bbq pork and roast pork. Not usually a fan of roast pork. I waited so long and when it was my turn, they didn't have bbq pork so I got roast pork to go. My ... the roast pork was juicy and flavorful. Should have got more Bbq pork was sweet and juicy , no pork smell at all Fresh pork. Two thumbs up

First time here after recommendations from friends that this place are outstanding. We ended up ordering 5 pounds of roast pork and while chicken . The roast pork was bit disappointing with no crispy bite to it. It was chewy like biting on a sandal. This was 10am in morning order. The chicken is decent enough nothing spectacular.

It's cold in Dallas this morning, an excellent reason to venture out to buy a whole duck at a new place, Hiep Phong. I also scored a roasted pig leg, which will make a fine soup stock, married with duck bones and gently simmered in beef broth to keep me warm and happy all afternoon and evening. I enjoyed the duck here, but found it to be almost completely unseasoned, when compared to the much more flavorful whole duck I am accustomed to at First Chinese BBQ on Greenville. The pig leg was excellent for nibbling crispy skin and tasty tender meaty bits, well worth exploring (along with the pig head, all yours for $10 for fine nibbling and soup stock) if you have never done so.

This place has the best chinese BBQ in town. I used to go this place buy BBQ. Recently, I went there bought BBQ whole duck. They cheat me out, instead one full duck they took out important parts of the duck such thighs, neck and other good parts of the duck. They purpose doing that to cheat out customers don't pay attention. End up, they took half the duck selling for full price If you buy BBQ here make sure pay attention at them. I would rather not go here. Just go other Chinese BBQ places in town to buy to avoid cheating. So sad! This is America turned to this third country scheme It's not worth it at all

To go only mom and pop shop in a store that sells miscellaneous dried goods and teas. Roast pork's skin was crispy and meat was full of flavor. Leftovers were still yummy after 10 seconds in the microwave later at night. BBQ pork was excellent as well! Too bad there are some mixed reviews. Will def come back to try the roast duck and review again!

So rude customer service! Worst experience ever! I asked to buy some Rosted BBQ pork, I asked if the part he tried to sell it to me, the pork rind has crispy, he told me if I want the pork rind then go to 7 eleven gas station buy some pork rind to eat. So disappointed to recommend this place for my family in town. Not even deserve 1 Star review!

I am confused where all the good reviews are coming from bc our experience was a huge let down. The place is kinda hole in the wall but arrangement of merch was very promising: plenty of roast ducks & meats plus an assortment of baos/pork buns. The store associates are borderline annoying and tried to force me to pay cash (a few other Chinese restaurants are guilty of the same such as First Chinese BBQ Plano). But how they manage to pass inspections or how other customers can turn a blind eye to the complete disregard of food handling sanitation is unbeknownst to me. I will spare disgusting details of what I witnessed while the store associates prepared food, let's just say there was no way anything bought I felt clean enough to eat. However rest of my party felt wasteful to toss food out. So while I refused to partake in eating, everyone else dove in. Complete disappointment (their words) - roast duck lacked flavor, too greasy and hard/old, pork bbq dry and baos bland/underwhelming. They rated quality to be less appetizing than other bbq places around DFW and agreed that $50 was sadly wasted.

Come here in the morning, and NOT the afternoon as the meat will not be as good. Both their roasted pork and duck are good. The butcher is really nice and will help you pick the best piece of meat for your liking. They also sell banh hoi which is supposed to be served together with the Heo Quay. Their sauce is also very good and compliments the meat perfectly. We usually order the BBQ here for any type of group party and never disappointed. Of course, come as soon as they're open to get the fresh meat.

Get here early. Hiep is well known for their bbq pork, duck and whole roasted pig. My wife and I catered a whole pig from Hiep for our wedding tea ceremony and our guess raves about the pig. My out of town family and friends who travelled for the wedding couldn't stop talking about the pig. I think it was more popular then the bride and groom. Arrive early because people don't mess around about wanting the best pieces of the pig and their choice of the many shiny ducks hanging just waiting to go home with you.

The first couple times I had them from birthday parties and was super impressed. However the very first time I made a trip to order myself, they let people cut in front of me to order the last bit of crispy pork left. I had to wait for a long time with two young children and then more people joined me to wait. Yet when the pork came out again, they let other people get their food first before I did and when I complained they said they didn't know (I was the only one waiting for the next batch for a long while). And because I complained they gave me all the bad pieces. Never again no matter how good you are. Your customer service sucks.

I will never order from them again! Called in my order for roast pork Dec 1st at 4:02pm. The guy gets my name and my phone number for the order to pick up December 8 at 5pm. My husband had to wait for 2 hours because they forgot my order. They told him they'll roast one for 50 minutes if he could wait. They said they'll give discount since they messed up. Nope! They still charged my husband full price of $295. My Dad's birthday party was delayed 5 hours because my husband was stuck in traffic coming back. Roast pork was overcooked. Dry and had no seasoning or sauce at all!

Hiep phong BBQ changed the owner ??? I came this place bought roasted pork and roasted ribs , really bad food and really bad customer services here !!! There 3 guy with hash voice and cold faces asked me what do you want impolitely !!! No thank you at all when the selling done !!! When I go home I enjoy the food I realize the food is so bad , not like before it was used to be !!! Never come back and think that this business may be close soon !!!

I will try it again if there is an opportunity but will not go out of my way to get it again.

Meats are good! They say come early but keep in mind that if you come right at open, you may have to wait. I arrived and waited half an hour before the roast pork was ready.

Not many places to buy Chinese BBQ pork by the pound. These guy's is really good. Pretty much to go only.

This is the best place i had!! I was waiting on the seafood restaurant and I stumbled to this place. I ordered roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, pork bun, bbq pork bun, roasted bbq pork and lobster. I've have been almost every restaurant in dfw to find the beat authentic food. This is by far the best restaurant. Togo only.

The duck and crispy pork here are really good. We usually stop by this place whenever we visit the bakery in the same shopping center.
