Great place! The food is delicious—the pizzas are amazing and the old fashioned is both a show and a treat. The atmosphere is wonderful, and even though it was busy, our server was excellent. We were seated right away. The beers taste great too—the Hazy and the IPA were an awesome discovery. Highly recommend!

Well. Ugh. $18 for a hot dog. Went for a salad instead of chips for the side. Wilted arugula mix, two cherry tomatoes, two slices of cucumber. Flavor was good-ish… but bland. My peers believed the flavor was okay, but agreed w me that the portions were far below average at this price. Waiter kept kneeling down when assisting us… made us uncomfortable to say the least. I get it—he may be tired—but man stand up. Anyways… sipped some beer and that was great. Just because it’s a mountain town doesn’t mean bad food should be expensive though. Sorry guys… it’s just the honest truth.

High Alpine Brewery is a gem! The beer selection was top-notch—full of unique flavors and perfectly brewed. My Husband ordered a flight and was amazed at the quality and taste of each pour. We shared a pizza and the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The atmosphere struck a great balance between laid-back and lively, making it a perfect spot to unwind. Our waitress/bartender was fantastic: friendly, knowledgeable, and on top of everything without being overbearing. Whether you’re a craft beer lover or just looking for a fun place to relax, this spot checks all the boxes. Highly recommend!

I eat here every time I visit town. That's five or six visits in the last year. The pizza is great every time. They make the best pretzel I've ever had also. I've only ever had the espresso stout and it's also extremely good. I have never left without being very satisfied with my visit. My wife and son were equally impressed. It's always good.

Google
Appetizer (burrata) & customer service was great. Beer was good. We had the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was really dry and not flavorful, and ordered the antipasto salad, which was not an antipasto salad. It’s a lot of romaine with a few toppings, felt like a scam paying 18 dollars for that and expecting antipasto. The ratio of lettuce to toppings is way off for antipasto. Edit to add a picture of the provolone cheese, which is clearly just pre-sliced cheese from like a Kroger package.

I've been to High Alpine Brewing Company twice now, and my impressions haven't changed much. The first time, I ordered the "High Alpine" pizza, which came out overcooked with the crust burnt throughout, though the flavors were decent. My wife ordered the Beet and Goat Cheese salad with lemon champagne vinaigrette, which she absolutely loved. In fact, she ordered the same salad during our second visit! On that second visit, my wife and I sat on the second-level deck. The atmosphere was pleasant, and it was quiet enough for conversation. However, the space is small--great for up to 4 people, but not ideal for larger groups. Larger groups would be more comfortable on the first floor. We started with the hummus appetizer, which was fantastic. It came with olives on top and an assortment of sides, including garlic bread, red peppers, carrots, and cucumbers. The garlic bread, in particular, was amazing! For my main dish, I tried "The Mountaineer" pizza. Unfortunately, it arrived at room temperature. The crust retained some heat, but the meat was cool, and the cheese lacked any pull. While the flavors were okay, the temperature was a letdown. My wife's salad, as always, was excellent. As for pricing, I find it a bit steep. An 11-inch specialty pizza runs from the low to high $20s, and drinks are charged per refill. The menu is limited, offering just a couple of sandwiches, brats, salads, and pizzas. Service was about what you'd expect--nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, I'd rate this place as average, but since my wife loves the salad so much, it earns an extra point.

Google
Beer awesome! Food awesome! Don’t be scared away from the prices on the menu for a pie. It’s worth it. Try the pig and fig and the high alpine.

Google
Just go ahead and stop on in y'all and I promise you will enjoy it and I'm speaking as a Texan 😅😉 Great pizza like "oh shoot no shit" and the recommended cocktail that had basil was chefs kiss. The staff was freaking adorable and helpful I know bc my huddy limped in with a stick from the camp grounds 😅 would DEFINITELY come back 🤩

Yelp
Great Brewery in Downtown Gunnison CO. The Amber beer was particularly tasty, very good pizza and good salads. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
We have been here so many times, I'm not sure why it has taken me this long to write a review. We went on a weeknight a couple of weeks ago, and the downstairs seating area was fairly quiet (I think a lot of people opt to sit upstairs in the open deck area). We waited to be seated, and were told to pick any table, so we picked one and sat down. Our server was great - she took our drink order (beers of course, they have a great selection), and was back with them fairly quickly. We started with the pretzel, which comes with mustard, and we added the cheese sauce (delicious). Then we opted to create our own pizzas this time (normally we order one of their creations - they're all good) - but I'm glad we went the create your own option - they were both delicious! We will for sure be back again next time we are in town!

Yelp
Great brewery with excellent beer selections and solid staff. Comfy inside and in a good location. Work def visit again if in the area!

Yelp
So happy we tried a pizza this time! It was incredible! Drinks were delish as well. One of our favorite places to come to when we are in town

Yelp
The service was friendly and attentive and the upstairs patio offers a nice place to sit and enjoy a drink at sunset, but my meal, unfortunately, was a bummer. Buffalo sauce can cover a lot of sins, but, overall, the chicken sandwich left a lot to be desired. I was surprised (in a bad way) to find that it was a sort of room temp shredded/chopped chicken rather than an intact breast and the toppings were equally sad: sweaty, unmelted provolone, barely detectable flakes of soggy potato chip, and arugula that, in theory, sounds like a nice touch but, in practice, was drowned out by the flavor of the sauce. Toast the bun! Grill (or fry) a chicken breast! Top it with crunchy lettuce and fresh veg! These are small things that could take this sandwich from feeling like an afterthought to an entree that satisfies. My boyfriend's pulled pork was slightly better in terms of flavor but, like the chicken sandwich, the preparation fell flat. I'd much rather see a restaurant trim down its menu if that's what it takes to make sure every diner has an excellent experience regardless of what they order, especially in a relatively remote area where pickings are slim.

Yelp
I love this place! The building is beautiful, the service is great, the food is delicious and the beers are perfect. This is where I learned I liked Kolsch. They always have fun special cocktails as well. The best pizza is the Guadalupe or Pig and fig and the best salad is the beet and goat!!

Yelp
I've been to this place three times now, and each visit has delivered excellent service. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd hope for in a mountain setting--cozy, welcoming, and full of character. Everyone you encounter is friendly and seems genuinely happy to be there, which really adds to the overall vibe. The beer is exceptional, with one of the best varieties in town. Whether you're into classic styles or looking for something more adventurous, there's something for everyone on tap. I travel to this area for work, and this spot is always on my list. It's the kind of place you look forward to returning to--not just for the drinks and the atmosphere, but for the consistently great experience.

Yelp
Heard some good things about this half brewery/half woodfired pizza shop in Gunnison and decided to try it on our way back into Denver from a nice weekend at crested Butte. We ordered on the phone and the staff was so nice and helpful, we wanted our pizza split half-and-half, and that was no issue. The ambience is a very mountain vibe, with lots of deep toned, wood and natural light, the restaurant was not busy when I got there, but we just picked up our order to go. As a big wood fired pizza fan, I had higher hopes for this pie than it lived up to be. I decided to try a simple cheese, pizza, but it was a bit dry and overcooked. The other half was the Diavola, which was a bit more yummy as it had cooked onions on top. Still, I wanted a bit more from my experience based off of what I had heard from others about this pizza. Maybe my choice was too simple. Wish we had time to try the freshly brewed beers in house, maybe on our next trip!

Yelp
Nothing bad to say here. We rolled up on a quiet Wednesday afternoon, sat up top on the outdoor patio, and had a friendly staff meet us immediately for drink orders. I had the Bright Cider, Two Towns, nice and not too dry or sweet (aka balanced). He had the Green Gate IPA. We both ordered the mountain brats sandwich with different sides. What I really liked about the brat plate was the mustard - whole grain. Really nice and the mouth feel was cool also. We didn't stay long but this is def a place you could. The atmosphere is laid back, the service is attentive but not too much and the food and drink were great. I've said this before and I'll say it again - shout out to the kitchen staff who are bold with seasoning. Thank you!

Yelp
DELIGHTFUL food, atmosphere, and service (Jordan!!). An A+ experience, capped off with Beermisu

Yelp
Amazing food I got the Beet Goat salad with Chicken Amazing! The service was impeccable our waitress was on the spot ready to serve drinks then take order and the food literally arrived within 5 minutes! The brewery ambiance is awesome!

Latt M.

Yelp
Food is ok not great, service was not. Took an hour and a half to get food for two young kids, the table was not fully set (we had to hunt down plates, silverware, etc. which was bizarrely difficult), the servers and hostess were overwhelmed, the staff were unfamiliar with the menu, staff disappeared for extended stretches, gave us incorrect information about various menu items, and argued with us when we asked for the bill (wouldn't you rather get it later? No! That's why we asked three times!). It's obviously the job of management to staff their place appropriately and yet it was disappointing how unaccommodating and unapologetic the staff were - and by that we are including not just our own server but also the hostess, and other wait staff we hunted down in desperation. Caveat: this was a holiday weekend which might not be representative, although about half the tables were empty.

Yelp
We tried the Greengate IPA...SOLID- we got a crowler to go, Anthracite Amber....SOLID, Gunnygold Golsch....SOLID. Great historic location. Beer tender Koy engaging! Great time....

Dawn A.

Yelp
The chicken in the Caesar salad was ice cold, tasteless, unseasoned. Gross. I could not eat it. And it was way over-priced for what was served. If you're looking for a salad with great-tasting protein, this is not it. Discouraged from eating out again after this.

Maci L.

Yelp
I ordered the sausage platter with the pretzel (+$9) and cheese (+$4) which totaled at $31... the plate I received was not the quantity of food the price tag suggests. The kraut is probably the best kraut I've ever had and the pretzel was good, but not worth the price. The pepperoni pizza was also extremely disappointing.
google avatar

Denise Z.

Yelp
We came here last minute based on decent reviews. Not super busy but crowded. Waitress was prompt and attentive. I was shocked at the sausage platter, it was tiny little slices (maybe one brat) for $18! My kids ordered pizza and the pork sandwich, it came almost an hour later and it was cold! Everyone was cranky and hungry, we ended up going to McDonald's drive thru after The manager did comp us 50% of the bill. Still be aware of the ridiculously high prices and mediocre food.

Christine S.

Yelp
Passing through on our way to Grand Junction. Cute pub. Clean and atmosphere was fun. My husband ordered the brat. It was tasty, but lacking in condiments. They were out of stone ground mustard. That's ok... I'll have regular mustard, we don't have that either... ok... how about ketchup... nope sorry. I ordered the brat "shareable" it was maybe half of a brat. Also ordered the beer cheese.. it was cold and wasn't more than a tablespoon at best. Lumpy cold cheese...Again, no condiments. Needless to say it was not very filling. Service was good, very attentive. Buyer beware there is a 4% charge for what??? The waitress wasn't quite sure either but assured us most everyone in town charges it.

Jill T.

Yelp
The ambience was nice. We were greeted right away. The service was wonderful! The food amazing. We ordered the Alpine pizza. Sooooo good.

Tasnim A.

Yelp
The crust was underdone and doughy (I prefer a crispy crust) but appreciated the amount of toppings and overall tasted as a pizza should.

Ya Fucked Up D.

Yelp
Great beer, even better service. Steve is awesome, he runs a great show here. Can't wait to try the food!
google avatar

Yulia L.

Yelp
Salad wasn't fresh and was unappetizing. I couldn't eat it. hope the kitchen takes more care, because the place has potential.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
It's the only brewery in Gunnison. Their beers are really good. At least their IPAs and Lagers. We didn't try their pizza, but their other food was good. Service and staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Anthracite Amber, Town Run, Pizza Margherita. All 10 out of 5!!!!! Good atmosphere, great service, delicious food & beer. Everything!

Yelp
The food was delicious, and the drinks were fun! Kiiiinda pricey.... but it was a fun stop for our alumni weekend kickoff!
google avatar

Wendee B.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, amazing stout, super helpful server, Megan, got us a taste of everything we wanted to try and make sure the pizza was exactly what we wanted. Everything was so good that we got a couple of desserts and a growler to go. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Great beer, food, and live music! We went on a Thursday night and really enjoyed the relaxed, but fun atmosphere. The staff was super friendly, too! Will definitely be going back.

Anthony F.

Yelp
This dining experience was terrible. Pro, Hostess was very nice and beer was cold and good. Cons, service was very slow. Ordered BBQ pork Sandwich and house salad. When the sandwich came out it was not good. Pork was dry and hard like jerky. Server took it back and brought new order, it was drowning in sauce that I had to eat with a fork. Nothing like a real BBQ sandwich. Server came to give me bill and told her this was not good. She started off and stated the first way is the way we serve it here. Then told me that they were not a BBQ place. I suggested that they take it off the menu if not going to serve a proper BBQ Pork Sandwich. That's when I paid and got the eye roll. Did tell her it wasn't her fault. Still rude.

Yelp
Driving through Gunnison & after reading some reviews, we stopped @ H.A.B. Glad we did; this place did not disappoint. Friendly staff, clean & the food was delish! We started with Anthracite Amber Mule Beer & Red Lady Mule. The Guadalupe pizza was solid....there were no leftovers! Highly recommend to giving H.A.B a try!

Angela T.

Yelp
Service was terrible, took over 30 minutes to get a table at 2:00 on a Monday and then another 30 minutes (well maybe more, still haven't gotten it) to get our food.

Joan K.

Yelp
Great food. The Pizza was to die for. Great variety of beers. Very busy so service was a little slow. Worth the wait.
google avatar

Stephen P.

Yelp
Really great reuse of what looks like a historic building right in the center of town. Beer was very good and they offer a range to please everyone. Pizza is their speciality and lived up to it; the brat was also unusually delicious. Service was the only issue. Not due to lack of effort or any issue with individuals: the waiters and bussers were working so hard, it was exhausting to watch. And they somehow kept it together. But it was 25 minutes from being seated by the host to introduction/drink order from a server, and I'm pretty sure we only got attention even then because another table had seen my attempts to get noticed. Food took a while to get as well. I overheard mention of being short staffed...if that's the case, don't fill every table, seat only what can be managed.

Pamela M.

Yelp
Service was good, pizza was delicious and choices of beer were great. Ambiance was good. We will be returning. Great place. Just love the brick oven pizza.

Lauren C.

Yelp
great food and drinks. fairly priced for the area. pizza was delicious as was burrata dish

Daniel B.

Yelp
Saw the positive reviews so the wife and I stopped by while passing thru. Had a great experience, had the mountaineer pizza and the house salad with an IPA. Nice looking restaurant and the service was perfect plus everything was on Happy Hour pricing. On top of all that, after we left we realized we left an important item, called them and they kindly retrieved item from our parking area and mailed it back to us. So appreciate how they helped us. Yelp
Overdue review from our visit to Gunnison in early September 2021. We ate at High Alpine twice during the week. Our first night, we sat on the outdoor patio area upstairs. Relaxing vibe with a nice view of downtown. I had the bratwurst sandwich with a side salad. As a Wisconsin native, I'm snobby about my bratwursts and this one didn't disappoint. Very legit. Salad was good too. I ate mine pretty fast too--but did snap a pic (see below) so that's covered Stacie (see earlier review). Our second visit was specifically to try the pizzas. They were excellent. If I'm back in Gunnison again, I'd stop here for pizza for sure. Enjoyed the beer as well. Only downside was pretty slow service on both visits, but we understood the labor shortage issue was impacting everyone so we didn't get worked up about it. Also, it's Colorado--there's a vibe there that doesn't match well with generally uptight people--as can be seen in some reviews below. Hope to get back to Gunnison again and looking forward to enjoying more High Alpine Brewing pizza and beer.

Robert S.

Yelp
This is the most over priced restaurant in town. You would think the price would speak for the quality but food was tasteless and cold when it arrived, the appetizer was tiny and cold seems like there a theme, the non-alcoholic drinks are priced the same as the real cocktails which doesn't make sense since it was so poorly made. The server seemed like he was dragging his feet to even get to us taking 50 mins to bring our food!
google avatar

Brent S.

Yelp
Had drinks and an app, the Sausage app. Bartender fiendly and great bourbon rec. Price on high end for how much food was on app but pizzas looked great !!

Madeline W.

Yelp
We have enjoyed High Alpine since they opened. However, the last two years we have been very disappointed. We visited yesterday evening, and sadly it will be the last time. The service was terribly slow. I watched as our two servers stood around downstairs at the bar and chatted with coworkers while we waited to order, and then again while we waited for our pizzas to be delivered. I could see the pizzas on the kitchen counter sitting and waiting with our salad. There was absolutely no hustling happening by the waitstaff. Nor any effort of being personable. But even more so frustrating is the exorbitant prices. The pizzas are already expensive, but then when I saw how little sausage there was while charged an additional $6 for it, I was done. There was barely enough sausage to even see it. The pizza wasn't good. All of the menu items are very overpriced. And then to top it all off they added a 4% service fee. (I deducted that from the tip.) Even my kids said High Alpine has gone downhill. Such a shame. Gunnison needs good restaurants, but HA is no longer one of them.

Kaitlynn A.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal pizza & appetizers. We scarfed it all down and would easily come back any time. We sat downstairs but there was options for upstairs and an upstairs patio which looked beautiful (just too cold!) Drinks were super strong which was awesome.
google avatar

Riley M.

Yelp
Pretty overpriced for pizza. The fig and pig was so good but the pizzas are small and we left unsatisfied. Service and ambiance was fine but overall it's overpriced for a family to get a mediocre meal.
google avatar

Ellie H.

Yelp
I came with a party of four and one person got the small beet n' goat and loved it. The rest of us got a large Caesar, a Guadalupe pizza, and a mountaineer pizza. The food was epic and the service was even better.
google avatar

Shawn F.

Yelp
We sat at the bar, so of course, the service was first rate, but really, he asked us if we wanted something else before our beers were done, so that is primo! The Amber was great As a light beer, I loved the Town Run! We also got the Mountaineer pizza for lunch, enough for two & absolutely delicious! Also, just a cute little place & they have a nice porch upstairs to view the street ongoings! A must visit

Tracey H.

Yelp
We were stuck overnight in Gunnison and High Alpine came recommended. Fabulous pizza, wings were good (skin could have been crisper), but not a regular menu item. Staff was fabulous, Collin was on point on the bar. Easy going, laid back atmosphere. Nice small town feel...
google avatar

Erika K.

Yelp
What an awesome spot in a beautiful mountain/valley town! We stopped on a Sunday night during happy hour, and both my boyfriend and I took advantage of the awesome deal for flights - $13 for 6 5oz pours, it was a fabulous way to get a pretty good idea of their offerings, and I actually really enjoyed each one. Service was also top-notch as well, even though it was so busy. Pat took great care of our table, and provided recommendations when we weren't sure what else to add to our flight. I will definitely be coming back to High Alpine when I'm back in the area this fall - a must-stop for beer lovers!
google avatar

Coe H.

Yelp
Service was standard and the food was fast. However the bill was $80 for a cocktail, cider, Cesar salad with chicken, and a gluten free pizza. The food is sustainably and locally sourced, which is great, but it was definitely pricey for what we got. There was an $8 up charge to get a gluten free pizza, so my 11" pizza cost $32. It was really delicious, but definitely the MOST expensive GF pizza I've ever ordered.
google avatar

Evan K.

Yelp
Service is excellent at the bar. No rush. And the pizza crust was crisp and brown and the ingredients screamed fresh.

Yelp
We're still traveling, Mother's Day 2023. We found High Alpine Brewing on Yelp and stopped for the best meal. We were greeted warmly. Service was attentive. Beer and cocktails were EXCELLENT! I got the smoked Cherry old fashion and it was delicious. Started with the sausage platter with pretzel and cheese dip. Every element was stellar from the sausages and sauerkraut to the made in house mustard and cheese sauce to the pretzel were just yummy. Had the Pig and Fig pizza, soooo good. Then John the head brewer stopped by to chat and it is obvious he takes pride in his craft. I tried a chocolate raspberry Porter and it was delicious. If you are in the area and want some tasty food in a fun atmosphere with great service, get here.
google avatar

Haylee O.

Yelp
Stopped here for dinner on our way to camping and it was everything we needed. The Alpine pizza was one of the best I've had. Unique flavors and the herbed ricotta was a game changer. My friend meg highly recommends the basil ale. A hazy ipa is my normal go-to but this one was not it. Overall good place!
google avatar

Heather V.

Yelp
We were passing through on our drive from Montrose back to Colorado Springs and drove right up on High Alpine which did not disappoint. We were greeted by the hostess who sat us upstairs on their outside terrace immediately. It was a beautiful, breezy day so I was happy to see they offered outdoor seating. Especially during COVID. All servers wore face masks during our visit as they mandated all guests cooperate and wear theirs while moving around the restaurant. Our server was great and offered his personal menu recommendations. We started off with a beer flight; $12 for six 5oz pours I thought was a steal. And their beers were tasty. Especially their basil special. From there we shared the Rafano which came punching with flavor; ricotta cheese base, onions, red pepper, shaved rib eye topped with a horseradish cream.. you're welcome. Great booze. Friendly staff. Beautiful Mountain View's from outdoor terrace. And even better pizza
