13 Hottest Restaurants in the Triangle, October 2024

"From the owners behind Bar Virgile, High Dive brings upscale dive bar vibes, games, cocktails, and more to this downtown basement space (which, ironically, was also once an arcade bar). Think classic beers like Sam Adams and Stella on tap, simple cocktails, pool table, darts, and a jukebox. Food options are divey as well — customers can help themselves to freshly popped popcorn or order a basket of nachos." - Matt Lardie

I found this gem after a show at DPAC. I had intentions of bar hopping but stayed here the entire night. The bartender Gabe is one of the best bartenders I’ve interacted with. As a bartender myself, I’ve interacted with my fair share. He’s friendly and outgoing. I didn’t have to wait for drinks as he was attentive as soon as I approached the bar. I had a great time shooting pool, playing darts, and talking to the locals. If there were metal signs with their logo, I’d have bought one to add to my collection. I’ll definitely be back.

12/7/24 - a spot that's open until 2am! We had fun getting some drinks and playing darts. The bartender was super cool and nice. The atmosphere felt like where locals go. They had some other games to play like pool, and arcade games. They even have an older Juke box.

I have been eagerly awaiting High Dive to open in downtown Durham and it did not disappoint. It is located in the old Quarter Horse location, and has the same owners as Bar Virgile and Annexe. I loved the Durham memorabilia inside and the casual atmosphere. They have several TVs playing sports as well as lots of games such as pinball, pool, foosball, darts, and Golden Tee. There is also a jukebox and free popcorn machine. Aside from drink options, patrons can also order nachos.

Literally the best bartenders you could ask for at a bar. James, Gabe, and Drew are the absolute best. And as a queer person, I have never felt unsafe at this bar.

A really fun place to grab drinks and watch sports. Definitely has a "man cave" vibe with the pool and AC/DC pinball, but I liked it. Hope they thrive at this location, I definitely want to have more game days here!

Great place to get drinks late with friends. The jukebox is so cool and free darts and shuffle board.

High Dive is super rad. Honestly, of all the spots my wife and I hit on our recent trip to Durham, High Dive ended up being our jam (total surprise)! The place has a great atmosphere, super chill vibes, and incredible nachos, YES, like old-school, amazing NACHOS! Come for the nachos, stay for the jukebox (best I've seen in years), pool table, and cheap High Life.

A good bartender should remain aware of new people who come in and sit down and not focus on regulars, friends or people who yell at him especially when it's not that busy.

Yelp
We finished our nights each night of my recent trip to Durham at this place. So glad we found out. Haven't drank this much High Life since college, cheap and goes down easy. Great music and darts were fun with other folks at the bar. Would stick to the beer and popcorn here, awesome bar to just kick it with friends.

Yelp
Hey hey Durham, you've got a new bar brought to you by the folks from Bar Virgile, High Dive! This subterranean drinking cave sits in the old Quarterhorse space on Mangum Street. Head down the stairs and you'll find a chill space with foosball table, pool table, darts, jukebox and a handful of pinball tables. High Dive offers 8 or so beers on tap and some mixed drinks in unpretentious fashion. While it's not fancy, it's a good option if you've got a show at DPAC given its convenient location. And it's open seven days a week until 2am so enjoy, Bull City!

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in downtown Durham! It's a fun place to hangout and have drinks. They have a lot of fun games to play or you can watch a game on the big screen. The best part is that they have some of the cheapest drinks in Durham. The bartender does a great job!
