18 Restaurants Worth a Drive Out of Nashville - Eater Nashville

"Lots of people make the journey to Monteagle for this destination restaurant, located inside a historic 1929 mansion with a storied Al Capone history. The 1929 mansion with original hardwood flooring and authentic light fixtures, presumably financed by Al Capone, was put on the National Register of Historic Places in December of 1997. The three-story compound once had escape hatches on the roof and underground tunnels in the basement used by Capone for the transferring of liquor in the twenties and early thirties. Local legend reveals tales of Capone and John Dillinger lounging outside on the mountain stone patio having drinks and playing numerous hands of cards." - Delia Jo Ramsey

High Point Restaurant (RyeMabee Mansion) – Monteagle, Tennessee - Gastro Obscura

"This stately three-level, Tudor style house was constructed in 1929 by Irene Mabee. It has long been believed that the home was once a pit stop for mobster Al Capone as he traveled from Miami to Chicago. The area is considered a highpoint between the two major cities. The interior of the home was once equipped with a rooftop escape hatch and tunnels underneath used to transport Capone’s liquor. Local folktales persist to this day about John Dillinger and Capone playing cards on the patio while enjoying a drink. In the early 2000’s, the mansion was refurbished and became known as the High Point Restaurant, well-known for its aged steak and fresh seafood. Know Before You Go Located on Highway 41 and just off Interstate 24." - KenJ

We visited High Point for my birthday. This was our first time. We had heard from friends how great it was. I had made reservations and they suggested flowers for the table. That was a beautiful surprise. The atmosphere was great and the service was great. However, the food was good but definitely not worth the cost. The fried green tomatoes were ok but not the BEST we’ve had. The bread was wonderful though. The salads were fabulous! I had the winter pear with honey vinaigrette and J had the spring mix with blackberry vinaigrette. I had the Steak with Gorgonzola Alfredo. It was good. J had the black and bruised filet with steak truffles. The steak was too done and the fries were nothing special. If we go back we’ll try something different. The atmosphere is worth the visit.

What a unique experience at High Point Restaurant, housed in what was once Al Capone's residence! We chose it for a special occasion, hoping for great steak, and we weren't disappointed. The true star of the evening, however, was the seared tuna special. It's not on their regular menu, but it absolutely should be – it was hands-down the best dish we ordered, even surpassing the steak. The innovative use of dehydrated ginger (instead of traditional pickled) and incredibly fresh wasabi elevated it to another level. We also enjoyed the High Point Oscar and Steak & Shrimp; both were perfectly cooked, and the béarnaise sauce beautifully complemented the crab and steak. Their side portions are incredibly generous – prepare for a mountain of delicious asparagus!

Google
Not just the food, service, or atmosphere, but the history of this old residence. I almost OD’ed on the food. The lobster bisque started it off. Then the blackberry duck and fried Brussels sprouts finished it. Done! They serve a gracious plenty. I couldn’t eat it all. Wow, I highly recommend this restaurant. If you don’t eat here, you are completely missing out!

Food was very good. Server, Terrie, was very nice and accommodating. Although busy. We didn't see much of the establishment overall but what we saw was as expected. It was loud but not much they can do about that.

Our server Victoria was amazing. She was attentive and pleasant. The food was superb and best I’ve had in a while. Everything was great. We dined outside and it was beautiful and serene.

Built in the 1920s and frequented by Al Capone during his trips between Chicago and Miami, the mansion was refurbished in the 2000s and became the High Point restaurant.Amazing atmosphere, exceptional service and great food.If you enjoy steak,I would recommend ordering one of their fine steaks.

Google
If you are passing through and want some good food, this is a great stop. About 5min from the freeway. All the workers seem like well established & seasoned -they will take good care of you. Food is excellent, no fast food or microwave food here. Good cocktail menu as well as good specials/ standard menu. Call ahead to make a reservation during busy seasons/ weekends. Prices are reasonable for this caliber restaurant. Look outside, if you are lucky, you will see some cute cats :)

We went to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and we absolutely loved the place. The food though pricey is worth the cost. Big portions and outstanding flavor. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because unfortunately our server was not in a good mood. She was good at keeping our water glasses full and asking us if everything was to our liking but she never smiled once and acted like she didn't want to be there. I even told her we were there for my boyfriends birthday and she didn't say anything like she simply could've cared less. I still highly recommend this restaurant and hopefully you will have better luck with your server.

Yelp
We have eaten here on two special occasions we were celebrating. The building is beautiful and so are the grounds. Now, the food is phenomenal! We've eaten at many high end restaurants across the U.S., and High Point beats them all! The flavors, presentation and quality is unmatched. You won't be disappointed. We are life long patrons because we simply cannot get enough of their amazing menu. Staff and chefs are top notch!

Yelp
Very accommodating for gluten allergy needs. Delicious food, fresh fish and salads. Will definitely return!

Megan T.

Yelp
Such a cool restaurant! The building has so much character and is very unique. The wine selection is excellent and the food is amazing. I usually get the steak Diane with Parmesan truffle fries (must try). Attire is dressier than most places around this area but still has a relaxed feel overall. Service was excellent! Portions are sized well and well worth the money, you'll likely leave with leftovers!

Yelp
The food was delicious. The chicken was tasty and tender. Th pasta could have used a little more sauce but I will not take off any rating due to the portion being overwhelming. The Service was outstanding and the Adult beverage was excellent. I visited on 12-30-23, with Family.

Yelp
Amazing. Service was attentive, accommodating, and went out of their way to offer recommendations and even made our cocktails extra special (aka strong AF). Located in this out of the way gorgeous stone "mansion" built in the 30's by Al Capone for his girlfriend! Such cool history to go with delicious food! Everything was spectacular! I had grilled salmon with a spicy orange glaze, blackberry salad and we shared fried green tomatoes. Hubby had rib eye and said it was excellent! We'd definitely return!

Yelp
Historical old house that is converted in a restaurant. Legend has it that Al Capone used to hide out there. Great setting, good plating, good waitstaff, food delivered quickly and timely. Definitely recommend this place! My only complaint was that my fish and potatoes were dry. Everything else was good.

Yelp
It is a cool historic house, and well worth a visit. You can feel the history throughout the space. Good amount of parking to handle peak times. They have a good cocktail program, and a printed menu of specialty drinks. I enjoyed a sazerac and the wife a dirty gin martini. They also have a good selection of wines by the glass. We liked the warm rolls and butter. The lobster bisque is a generous serving and thick and rich. Not much in the way of pieces of lobster, but quite tasty anyway. The fried lobster tail appetizer was enough to share for a few bites each. The dressing was a little too thick for lobster, but it was still good, and it's hard for us to pass up a fried lobster appetizer. The steaks, a ribeye and filet, were correctly cooked to order and were exceptionally tasty. One of the best steaks I've eaten out in a while, nicely seasoned and great grill flavor. Service was friendly and efficient. It was a bit too long a pause between the appetizers and mains, but the place was pretty busy, and the steaks were worth a wait when they arrived. Wife got a nice loaded baked potato. I tried the cheese grits, which weren't as good a side, but kept the dinner a little lighter, which I liked. We'd been looking forward to visiting High Point for quite a while, and we were not disappointed. I'd not mind a return visit on a future trip to the area at all.

Yelp
Fine dining on the mountain. A favorite for many residents and always for special occasions. The food is delicious- and over generous portions! Love this place!

Yelp
2nd visit here and it continues to be stellar. Servings starting with the soup or salad options are huge. I don't understand people who mention this being overpriced or with small servings. Nothing could be further from the truth. Every dish is delicious. This time we had the salmon imperial, Charleston shrimp and fettuccine. All were fantastic. Service was top notch. They even have Bud Light IYKYK...which garnered some laughs.

Yelp
My food was great and the restaurant has a lot of charm and character. My steak was done perfectly done medium rare. If you are looking for a unique experience in this area, I would highly recommend coming here.

Yelp
Food and ambience are great. They've stayed the top restaurant on the mountain for a reason.

Yelp
Wow what a treat after such a long day hiking. Husband got a steak and I got the shrimp and grits. Both were INCREDIBLE. seriously go! The service was impeccable. The waitress to the time to explain everything and offer suggestions. It was such a cool vibe. Like an old house, but also casual enough to wear our hiking gear!

Yelp
We went to High Point this evening for dinner and to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary. The food was excellent and service was good. The loaded baked potato, filet, shrimp and ribeye were cooked to perfection. The mobster margaritas were the best. It is by far the best restaurant for steak in the area!!

Yelp
High Point came highly recommended by one of my best friends. So when I tried to book a reservation several days prior, I was told there were none but I could keep calling to see if there were cancellations. I tried every day up to the day of my arrival to no avail. Eventually I was going to eat at Papa Ron's but after that little fiasco (you can find my review there), I was frantically looking for a good place to eat that was still open at about 8:15 PM on a Friday. I called High Point in desperation and pathetically asked if I could place a to-go order. The lady asked for how many and I said 2. She said sure and the stars aligned and I got my High Point meal, but not in the way I expected. Between me and my lady, we ordered the Oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer, her the ribeye with Caesar salad, and fried heirloom potatoes, me the NY Strip and Lobster Tail, Caesar salad, baked potato, and finally the bananas foster for dessert. We were told it would be about 35 minutes until it was ready. I showed up about 10 minutes early. The establishment is fairly large and has history with THE Al Capone, which is cool. I was quite underdressed (workout clothes) and didn't want to clash with the other patrons... After all there is a dress code. I found my way to the back/side entrance designated for the handicapped and saw it was an office/storage/prep area right in front of the kitchen. I mentioned I was there to pickup a to-go order. Everyone was so nice and while waiting, I was told I could sit in this giant recliner chair. I was told by one of the ladies doing reservations that they were currently booked 2 weeks out. However walk-ins were welcome on non-peak days. My food was ready 15 minutes later. I was told by one of the girls who seemed to be in charge of bagging my food that they messed up the oysters and they had to remake it. I was offered a free dessert for their error. Not wanting to be picky, I opted for the key lime pie. Upon getting back to my rental, I plated everything. Luckily we were only 5 minutes away, so everything was still warm. The Oysters Rockefeller were not the same that I'm used to, as these had hollandaise sauce on them. Regardless, they were still good. The hollandaise gave them a creamy flavor. They were topped with spinach and parmesan. Now here's a tip (pointed out to me by my girlfriend). If you like lobster, go for the steak and lobster. A two tail lobster dinner is $54.95. A single tail lobster dinner is $42.95. I initially wanted just the NY Strip ($44.95). The steak and lobster entree has a "downgrade" option to get a NY Strip over filet for $2 cheaper ($57.95). These weren't sample sizes either. I got a full-sized NY Strip and a full-sized lobster tail. That's a bargain and the best of both worlds. The steak was delicious. Cooked to medium rare just like I wanted and topped with butter that was fully melted by the time I got back to my rental. It needed nothing else, no salt or pepper. The perfect ratio of savory beef, fats from the butter and steak, and seasoning. The lobster tail was huge and meaty. It came with a ramekin of clarified butter and grilled lemon. The Caesar salad was really good as well. The dressing was one of the best I've had and I didn't see a single piece of wilted lettuce. It came with shredded parmesan and a fresh lemon wedge in a mesh bag. The baked potato also was good sized and came loaded with butter, sour cream, bacon, cheddar, and chives. The Bananas Foster was the icing on the cake. Cooked bananas, still firm, bathing in a butter and cinnamon blend with some of the richest vanilla ice cream I've ever had. I never got to the key lime pie because I was so full. High Point definitely didn't disappoint. I'm sure dining there would have been a fantastic experience but the to-go experience was excellent. The friendliness/service of the staff and the quality of the food is top notch. I'll be sure to return the next time I'm in the area and I'll be sure to make reservations in advance. This establishment is highly recommended.

Yelp
Second time here and you can't go wrong with any food. First time I had a filet and it was cooked perfectly and delicious! This time I had the seared ahi tuna black and white and the husband had the duck. Both were cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. Cocktails are fabulous! Service is always too notch. Highly recommend for the food and service alone but to leave out the history and the landscape would be a shame. All around an excellent choice for a night out.

Clarke H.

Yelp
Really cool vibe here, and the food was great. The grilled pound cake is a must have.
google avatar

Jim G.

Yelp
One of the worst meals I have had in a long time. Overcooked duck, heavy salt to the point that even the low quality of the beef could not be saved. The exterior of the restaurant is beautiful, but that is where the good ends. Pass. There were literally hormel bacon bits on the side salad.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place. The quaint building and beautiful outdoor patio... but the food and cocktails just fell short. I ordered the Cosmopolitan and the Sazerac. Both fell short. They were also watered down and you couldn't taste the liquor. It was odd. I've never had either of those cocktails as a more mixed drink and watered down? The fried green tomatoes weren't bad but they were messy and the breading fell apart. The lobster bisque tasted like heavy cream. So, I gave it to my mother. The Harvest salad was heavy on the bibb Lettuce but barely had three Pecans and other toppings. For the entrees, we ordered Blackberry Duck. Which, was good. I enjoyed the blackberry puree. The baked potato was also not cooked through (as the fries that were more like potato wedges). We also ordered the Blackened salmon with lump crab and hollandaise sauce with truffle fries. If you know me, I'm always looking for the best truffle fries and it's a real bummer when a spot doesn't offer actusl truffle fries. The truffle fries were potato wedges that remained undercooked and without a flavor of truffle oil. I took one small bite and left the rest. Even with extra truffle oil to pour on top, thwy just did not taste consumable. The worst part was the blackened salmon. It was smothered and COVERED in Hollandaise sauce. Which, was so salty that I took one bite, spit it out and left the rest. My mother tried a bite and did the same. So, I paid for an entree that we threw away. Which, was a bummer considering it cost $40. The locals behind us were talking about what to order and recommended dishes to their guests. They brought up most of what we ordered and how to not get it. Then, they recommended the duck. Which, I agree. It was good. All in all, it was a fine dining ticket price that left much to be desired and our bellies starving (since we left the food on the plates).

Yelp
If you haven't tried this place yet, GO!!!! It was phenomenal! Huge portions, taste of everything was perfection!! Service was great and atmosphere was so special !

Yelp
Our second choice for our evening meal was first rate! It was our first visit after not being able to get service at another restaurant. We showed up about 1/2 hr after opening and they had had a cancellation, great for us! The lobster bisque and fresh bread were a wonderful, flavorful start. I had grilled shrimp and savory, cheesy grits with roasted bok choy and radishes. My husband enjoyed panko-breaded chicken topped with shrimp and lobster bisque. The service was wonderful! We will go back.

Yelp
We were seated in a beautiful room overlooking the garden. The service was was friendly and very quickly we had our drinks and appetizers. The meal was delicious but we made room for dessert. I would definitely recommend coming here for a wonderful meal in a great setting!

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere, food was spectacular and great service. Had the Rockefeller oysters (fresh) and fried green tomatoes (best ever had!! non greasy)for appetizer. They had a speakeasy bar menu. Drinks were good. Had New York strip and lobster with the Japanese squash. It was on point! Zero complaints.

Yelp
Well medium rare is not this. Slow service.....15 min to get our bottle of wine and a fin an tonic.

Yelp
Amazing service, spectacular food and beautiful surroundings! Went here before a show at the caverns and loved every minute of the night out.

Yelp
Apparently an institution, but good luck finding any locals eating there. I spied at least 15 other states' plates in the parking lot, including ours. Regardless, it's a charming place with history (Al Capone! Prohibition! Old timey restrooms with couches and perfume!) and the food is just fine. Our server (who was lovely and, despite what other reviews indicated, was fully masked the entire time) was a delight and we were hungry and ordered a LOT of food. Cajun shrimp appetizer - very good, plump shrimp in a delightful spice that was reminiscent of Bouchon's mussels but not remotely cajun to my taste. The bread that came with was good, too. Bread and butter - it comes with the mains. They're Sister Schubert rolls. Salads - I got the BLT (holy gorgonzola overload!) and my guy got the berry one (which he said was a tad too sweet). Low points of the meal, honestly, and I had a few questionable pieces of lettuce which I don't expect at a nicer restaurant. (Don't get me started on the dirt I found on the lettuce, either.) Steak Diane - Better half got this. I tried some of the sauce (very good!) and he marveled over it and the accompanying asparagus--with hollandaise, of course, because why not. Unknown steak - I honestly don't remember, meaning it wasn't remarkable. It was well cooked, I remember that, and the baked potato was fine. Dessert, because of course we did - I got the grilled pound cake which was a delight, though the sauce seemed a bit overkill. My man got the bananas foster which was ridiculously huge (like 4 cut up bananas?) and deemed it delightful. Notes: Make a reservation. Dress halfway decently (I'm glad I looked at pics and didn't throw on leggings and a shirt). Parking is a nightmare, watch out for people who can't deal with reverse. It's not a quick meal, not is it meant to be, so be prepared for 1.5-2 hours for your meal, even if you skip apps/dessert.

La K.

Yelp
This is THE BEST restaurant I've ever ate at. Everything from the food to the service was top notch. Our favorite!

Yelp
Love The Winter BlackBerry Salad, The Steak and Lobster and love the atmosphere. Great for Date Nights with your Spouse.

Yelp
This beautiful restaurant is located in a 1920's mansion that was supposedly financed by Al Capone. Legend has it that you could see John Dillinger and Al Capone playing cards on the front porch. My husband and I had heard that this was not only a beautiful place but also a restaurant with excellent food. We initially shared a cocktail, the Sewanee Purple, which was similar to a Long Island Iced Tea without the tea. We also ordered an appetizer, the Brie En Croute, which is baked brie in a puff pastry with a sweet port wine reduction and grapes. It was delicious especially with the warm bread. For my main course, I ordered the 6 ounce filet. It came with a side as well as soup or salad. I picked aspargus with Hollandaise sauce and the fall harvest salad. Everything was so delicious!! On the fall harvest salad, there was bibb lettuce, brie, pears, toasted pecans with a warm honey vinaigrette on the side. Also, the service was incredible. I need to take a moment to talk some more about the house. It was so beautiful. I definitely felt like I had stepped back in time. It has three floors, a front porch and an amazing outside dining area with a fountain. You have to check out the pictures.

Yelp
Best food I've ever eat hands down! Lovely food. BEST SHRIMP EVER. Great grits! Takes a while to get the food but we'll worth it

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant that is on the national historic registry. Al Capone's speakeasy. The ambience was great and our meals were delicious! Our server Tammy was delightful.

Felicia W.

Yelp
We had high expectations for this place and really wanted it to be good but unfortunately it was not. My steak was very over cooked. The pasta that my husband ordered had clearly been sitting in the window for several minutes before being served. I made reservations for a Friday night at 5:30 which I was told was the only available spot. However when we arrived and left the place was half empty. Please don't tell guests you're full when you clearly are not. Our server was great but she had more tables than any other server so was overwhelmed.

Miki Heaton H.

Yelp
Third time there food is wonderful love to eat here when we are in Sewanee. Service is excellent. .

Jason K.

Yelp
Super expensive. Food is average for the most part but not worth the price. Nice atmosphere. Our waitress was terrible but maybe she was new. Stay away from the duck app as that was salty and overcooked.

Jonathon C.

Yelp
Loved it so much! The atmosphere was astonishing and the food was amazing. the steak was juicy and delicious

Kathy S.

Yelp
We drove by after hiking the Fiery Gizzard trail, and my husband spontaneously pulled in and said see if they require reservations. They did, but they'd had a cancellation, so we were seated immediately. The house is full of charm, and our waitress was equally charming. Although we were a bit underdressed, we were made to feel very comfortable. The prices weren't terrible, but it's a spurge, a real date-night kind of place. We were feeling high after our hike, so we got an appetizer and dessert. Every part of the meal was special, fabulous, worth every penny.

Haileigh A.

Yelp
Lacy was our waitress and she was amazing she was very busy taking care of other tables and still explained the menu to us and made sure our drinks never went empty. The food was amazing, Lacy said you could cut the steaks with a butterknife and you really could. Definitely will be coming back!

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Such a romantic date night place. Make reservations ahead of time to be sure you get a seat. My husband and I shared the coconut shrimp for appetizers. We had steak and lobsters for the main course. The lobsters were perfection and the steaks were amazing. Save room for dessert! Dessert was a grilled pound cake with a decadent caramel sauce. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
What an unexpected surprise at the quality and quantity of delicious food. Everything was delicious. Rolls are warm. Beautiful atmosphere. Was surprised to find out that this was Al Capones house. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is in the area on vacation or passing through.

Yelp
We were in the area for the weekend and had dinner with some friends at High Point Restaurant. The restaurant is really charming and traditional. We were seated in what I imagine was a former patio or enclosed porch - a room right off the entrance with just our table for 6 inside - very intimate and quiet and private! (We had a reservation, and I'm not sure if we requested this table specifically). The menu is also traditional. I had never had Steak Diane (a really retro dish), so I had to have it. The dish is two filet mignon medallions (cooked exactly to medium rare per my preference) flambeed in brandy with mushrooms in a great rich sauce. It was delicious. All of the "High Point Features" (any entrees that aren't pasta dishes) come with soup or salad, choice of vegetable side, and bread. This is a crazy amount of food. Our little party didn't even consider appetizers or desserts (but we did try a few drinks and have some wine) for that reason. I had the Caesar salad and cheese grits with my Steak Diane (I just love saying that). Everything was good. I would say that our party wasn't super pleased with the drinks but very pleased with the food (some of us ordered steak, some pasta, and some duck). (The wine we ordered was fine, but I think the cocktails were a bit underwhelming - in particular, I remember than an old fashioned came to the table bright red. We guessed they had used grenadine in it, which is obviously not classic or traditional to how an old fashioned would be made. I would say we didn't finish a couple of the drinks we ordered from the menu - safer to go with what you know you like.) The service was good. Overall, the food was good, the atmosphere great, and service good as well. My only qualms about recommending the restaurant are the drinks and the fact that it wasn't very COVID precaution compliant. Lots of patrons were inside not masked (even walking in the front door but also when walking to their table, going to the restroom, etc.), and our waitress who was otherwise very lovely didn't have her mask covering her nose at all the whole evening. So, while it was a good meal overall - I can't recommend it anyone who is being cautious at this time.

Lindsey P.

Yelp
Classic charm, small and intimate restaurant with so much history. We can't stay away. Everything we order has always been absolutely incredible. The sesame duck appetizer is a must try. It's packed with flavor, and for anyone new to duck, this is your chance to have your taste buds dancing around. The lobster bisque is incredible, rich, and creamy with a delicious puffed pastry. The high point Oscar is one dish I crave. This dish doesn't disappoint. The perfectly cooked steak with lump crab meat, asparagus, and bearnaise sauce is pure magic... basically, anything you choose to order will be a great food experience. Perfect for date night, client meetings, etc.

Yelp
Oh wow, how wonderful! Well this just fits right in with everything else i have experienced in these beautiful mountains so far. The food is absolutely marvelous, fish, meat, greens... it does not matter what you choose these chefs got it all! Those fries.... oh my, i could not stop eating them! My stake was cooked to perfection, and wait! Don't forget the Lobster bisque we started with, that was fab as well. Somehow we found a space for dessert, I'm not saying we ate it all.. but that grilled sponge cake was heavenly it was standing there in a caramel sauce that you didn't wanna take your spoon out of. We also tried the chocolate lava cake and the flambé bananas. Honestly it does not matter what you take it is all so very tasty. Desserts are big enough for 2-3 people but we just had to try it all! Only disappointment is coffee. The say the have espresso but... no. Maybe Keurig espresso? Our waitress was wonderful;, very attentive and hey girl that sweet southern accent will take you anywhere. The idea that we might be eating in the house where Al Capones mistress lived is a cool extra perk, but the food itself is absolutely enough for us to come back!

Yelp
Historic mansion built by Al Capone for his mistress. It was his half way resting stop from Chicago to Miami. Women, liquor and gangsters! My kind of history! Stones extending from the corner rock work made built in ladders from the top floor in case they needed to make a quick get away out back. Original floors, windows, woodwork and stonework makes the whole experience feel strange. Leaves you wondering what you would hear if these walls could talk. Stairway to the upstairs dining is extremely narrow. Those people were tiny back then! Ambiance and cool factor, 5 stars! Our food was good but not what you expect for the price. My Makers Mark Steak( Ribeye) was well cooked but very under seasoned. Entree comes with your choice of soup or salad and all soups and salads are available for your choice. That helped to take the sting out of the menu $ sticker shock. Wife had Capone's seafood platter. It had lobster, grilled salmon, coconut fried shrimp and bacon wrapped scallops. I tried them and they were dead on perfection as far as the cooking but again, needed a dash of salt. Desert was the molten lava cake and ice cream...that was fantastic! Our server was 5 stars all the way. She was very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu as well as the history of the home. She was one of those servers who has a natural instinct for perfect timing which is much appreciated. Actually, the entire staff was extremely friendly. Really enjoyed talking to the hostess as I waited for friends to arrive. We chatted about how cool the place was to work and the history of the homes past. Would I come back? Absolutely!! The patio was closed during our visit, which is a shame. It was very nice. Next time will be late spring or fall so that we can set out side enjoy the beautiful surroundings and sit right where Al Capone and John Dillinger sat to play cards! Make sure you make a reservation. I have heard it is sometimes a two week lead time for a table.

Yelp
YUM! Was this place delicious. We made reservations for my birthday and the decor, ambiance, and food did not disappoint. My husband had the rib eye with truffle fries, and I had the salmon imperial with the grits (there were no leftovers). The lava cake was definitely home made and scrumptious. The house is also beautiful and it's certainly a place Al Capone would have loved to stay. We will be back!

Yelp
We have lived in Chattanooga for years now and have heard how great High Point is, but never seem to make the drive (about an hour and it is in Central time, we are Eastern time zone). We went to a Titans game in Nashville and High Point is about the halfway point so we decided to make a reservation. Remember the time zone issue, I always get confused and we arrived an hour early. The staff completely understood and we were seated. Our very knowledgeable server Autumn was bubbly and knew the menu, the bourbon list was missing a few items and I asked if I could just go look. She walked me to the bar and I saw a pour that I would enjoy. My wife ordered a Cosmo (it was made with Rum not Vodka and she was pleasantly surprised). We went with the Fried Lobster tail as an appetizer and it was amazing (I was so excited I forgot to take a picture). We both ordered different salads and we both Chose a Filet. My Wife's was Oscar Style with Crab, asparagus and Béarnaise sauce. I went with a simple Gorgonzola butter, both Steaks came out at exactly the right temperature. I think this was partially Autumn's doing as she asked several questions about how we wanted it cooked before landing on Medium for my wife and Medium Rare for me. The prices seem high but are a good value as every Entrée comes with a choice of Soup or Salad and a choice of side (except pasta dishes). I saw someone with the Lobster Bisque and next time I'm going with that. We already can't wait to return.

Yelp
We went for our 27th anniversary celebration dinner, and again it did not disappoint! This was our third time eating here, and it is always top notch. Don't leave off the dessert! The grilled pound cake and the bananas foster are amazing. Our steaks were perfection.

Yelp
Outstanding! Amazing! Our favorite place a always. The ribeye melts in your mouth! We also had the duck appetizer and it is so juicy and full of flavor. We've never had a bad meal here.

Yelp
This place could have been 4 stars. But it was garbage. Start with out reservations being pushed back an hour. No biggie. Busy night. We asked for the patio. We got a room upstairs... again. Cool place. No big deal. We sit at 7:50. 10 F-inf o'clock we get our meal. No manager came up to apologize.. just sit here and run up an overpriced drink bill and get subpar food for a premium price. Must be a TN thing cause in NC, lone star steakhouse has same level of food. Don't waste your entire evening... oh and it was a bday dinner and no dessert was offered.. this place is garbage.

Yelp
Great place for a much-needed date night. Wonderful food, great atmosphere and plenty of fresh mountain air. Worth a drive and I would recommend reservations

Yelp
An unplanned stop for dinner between Atlanta and Nashville turned out to be the best meal a friend and I have had in a long time. The lobster bisque was so good my friend took two servings home. I had chicken with crab and shrimp, she had Atlantic salmon. Both top notch. Although we didn't have room for desert, we did anyway! Grilled pound cake with caramel and ice cream. Our waiter Nick took great care of us. I highly recommend High Point.

Yelp
No consideration or apology offered after waiting over TWO hours for food. Indifferent wait staff and management
