Google
Every once in a while you “find” a great place that has been right in front of you all along. High Thyme is one of those places! We came in for dinner for the first time recently and were blown away and couldn’t believe it has been an option for us for so many years and we just have been missing out. The food was incredible, portions generous, service friendly and knowledgeable and the wine was very reasonably priced with great selection. We arrived right at 5 and the dining area had plenty of tables available but it appeared as though the bar may have opened up a bit earlier because every stool was already filled. By 5:30 the dining room was also packed (this was a Saturday night in between Christmas and New Year’s for reference). All in all we are thrilled to find another great spot on Sullivan’s and can’t wait to go back. Definitely aspiring regulars.

Absolutely delicious! Seated right away on a Wednesday night, super kind waitress and quickly delivered to our table. Comes with free bread with butter which was a plus!

Google
Always in my top 5 in Charleston at any moment. The absolute best staff, best service and consistently good food. This is a great place. If you have a crowd with varied taste, there are beef, options, seafood options, and pasta. The menu is small and changes fairly often and I can’t recommend the specials enough. The cauliflower dip is absolutely to die for, and they are seared tuna, the appetizer, or the entrée is incredible. The dishes are always creative, the ingredients are fresh, and it’s always just an overall wonderful dining experience.

Google
Wonderful evening in this lovely location The food was outstanding The service as well Thanks so much! Definitely recommend to check that place out!

Google
Stopped here for a light supper. The food is outstanding. We had the curried scallop appetizer, very tasty. I had the crab ad shrimp cake on a Chinese cabbage ad arugula salad. Crab cake was on of the best I’ve had. My wife had an arugula salad also excellent. Even the key lime pie was terrific. We would have loved to try other dishes but our waistlines wouldn’t permit

Unfortunately, I did not take pictures because of the group we were with, but everyone enjoyed everything that was ordered! I got the spinach and mushroom risotto, which was beyond delicious! My husband got the halibut special and thought it was fantastic. For dessert we split a heavenly layered mascarpone, mousse, and chocolate ganache. I don’t know what it was called, but it was amazing! As busy as it was, our server was fantastic. It was really cute to sit on the porch to eat as well.

Google
Fantastic meal from start to finish, great service and welcoming of our 2.5 year old. We got a special shrimp and clam appetizer, I got the lasagna which was fanatic with great flavor of the meat and not to heavy of a dish. My wife got the salmon which she eats a ton of and said it was honestly one of the best salmon dishes she has ever had

Kimberly Cline

Google
Our server was wonderful and she had great recommendations. The scallops were absolute perfection! My husband got the wreckfish and it was tender and seasoned well. I had the crab and shrimp cakes and they were also delicious and the grits were creamy and divine!

Yelp
Oh how I love High Thyme Cuisine on Sullivans Island! Emily, Andy and the rest of the gang are always so nice and go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. Lately I have just been popping in for some small plates and a cocktail or two, or even wine when it's 1/2 price wine night! It's the perfect amount of food and always delicious. Pictured are the following: *Seared Scallops atop Herb Garlic & Parmesan Riced Cauliflower, Arugula, Balsamic Reduction *Lamb Meatballs with Rosemary Tomato Sauce, Parmesan, Herb Oil, Sourdough bread *Some 1/2 off veltliner wine * Baked Four Cheese Cauliflower Dip Grilled Pita, Italian Olives (my favorite thing on the menu) *A perfectly prepared extra dirty Martini from Andy!

Yelp
Great service and food. We both had the mushroom risotto and I added sea scallops but you have the option to add a variety of proteins. The scallops and risotto were perfectly cooked and the risotto had very good flavor and the portion size was perfect. We had the key lime pie for dessert which was delicious. The restaurant is a bit dated and very loud, but the service and food outweigh the noise.

Yelp
This is such a nice little restaurant and they have both indoor and outside on the porch seating. Menu is great with something for everyone and you can't beat the friendly service. You always feel welcomed here, and that is greatly appreciated. Be aware, No reservations and they are always busy, but it's worth the wait and you can always sip on a refreshing beverage while waiting.

Daniela Z.

Yelp
I can't wait to come back just to end up trying everything else on the menu! We got here a little after 5 since they open at 5 and it's first come first served, no reservations. We got outdoor seating which I highly recommend especially with this amazing weather. You feel like you're on someone's front porch, getting the views of everything going on on the Main Street! They had a great cocktail list and great options for wine and beer. I was also surprised at the prices, definitely thought it'd be pricier for the high quality of food! This will definitely be one of our new coveted date night spots. My husband ordered the special of the day and kept talking about how well seasoned and cooked the steak was and how perfectly creamy the potatoes were. See my pictures to see everything we ordered!

Yelp
Little jewel in the crown on Sullivan's island FANTASTIC PLACE!!! If I could add another star I would! These owners REALLY CARE!! They don't do reservations BUT it's totally worth any wait!!

Yelp
Our food was fantastic..I had the tuna. Great with chili type sauce. My wife had an arugula salad with scallops. Delicious. Our new go-to restaurant when we come to the beach. Beth was a superior server. Great personality. We ate on the deck. Has a great time with great ambiance. We met Emily, one of the owners. They made us feel at home. We had a marvelous time.

Mickey H.

Yelp
Excellent food in a laidback, cozy setting with friendly Southern service. And, man, the desserts!

Yelp
Such a cute restaurant on a very busy street. Parking can be tough to find. We went for lunch and were very happy with our food. I had the fish of the day that came with a succotash. My husband got the Grilled Beef Tenderloin and was very satisfied as well. Good service. Good food. Stop in!

Loretta L.

Yelp
This place is so cute. We sat outside and there was no wait on a Saturday night! The cocktails were delicious, crab cake wonderful, service was spectacular AND they accommodated my picky nine year old with no problem. If we vacation here again (and we probably will) we will definitely come back to High Thyme!

Jon S.

Yelp
Honestly. We came in from the beach to grab some appetizers and a couple drinks and felt judged the whole time. Like we didn't belong in their "fine" establishment. Vibe was terrible. No music. Rude staff. Food was mediocre. 10/10 would not recommend. They didn't ask if we wanted to order more food or have another drink. Just brought the check, set it on the table and left. It was literally like they just couldn't wait for us to leave. Never felt so unwanted at a business in my life. Will not be back. That's for sure! If you're a normal person looking for a good time near the beach this is not your spot. If you like overspending on food and dressing up in the sand, this is all you. That's my two cents. Take it or leave it.

Richard L.

Yelp
Probably the most consistent spot on Sullivan's. Doesn't get the fanfare of OD but should! Love the fish specials, enjoy the bar seating or deck weather permitting. Great service, hostess is the best and always accommodating.

Courtney K.

Yelp
Went here a few weeks ago to celebrate my mother's birthday and it was the perfect lowcountry spot for the celebration. We enjoyed our fair share of wine and cocktails, with a great wine selection and unique cocktail menu. The scallop appetizer (a special of the night) was so rich and honestly could've been my whole meal if I let it. I paired my wine and scallops with another special of the night, the tilefish with some carrots and gouda grits. One of the best seafood dishes I've had in Charleston-- as a Charleston native. The fish was prepared just right and as full as I left I stayed a proud member of the clean plate club!! Fork ate first and forgot to grab a picture- but will be back again SOON!

Rick K.

Yelp
Terrific first experience dining at High Thyme. We went on a Tuesday and thought we would be getting the tapas menu (per their website). Our server told us that this was discontinued due to covid. No worries since we had heard great things about their regular menu. We started with wine (good selection and very well priced) and one of us had the Sullivans Hoocharita (tasty but lacked the zing we expected from the jalapeño and fizzy limeade). We love dining family style so we started with the Arugula salad x2 (great portion size and very fresh/tasty with right amount of dressing) and the seared tuna (perfectly done and accompanied nicely with quinoa). The four of us then split 3 mains Catch of the day (Mahi Mahi), Grilled Yellowfin Tuna and Shrimp Andouille and Chicken Linguine. Portion sizes were terrific and staff was great with the sharing, providing us with plenty of plates. The dishes were all fresh, well plated and cooked to our liking. All the dishes were a little mildly seasoned for us so when we come back (and we will!!) I think we will mix up our menu choices more and request to have spices amped up a bit. Loved the fact that the restaurant wasn't at all pushy as we sat around to chat well after our meal. Thanks for giving us time to enjoy the evening. I can see why this is a local fave!!

Yelp
Situated inside an old house just a stones throw away from the Sullivan's Island beach, this little knock-your-socks off restraint is everything you love about a little beach down eatery plus all the bells and whistles. They are not taking reservations currently, but a group of 4 of us decided to test try to grab a bite here. The hostess (who I believe was also the manager) was bubbly and friendly and let us know the wait times for an indoor table (30 minutes) or an outdoor table (90 minutes). We chose to sit indoors and headed to the bar to grab drinks while we waited. Even though the bar is small and there was only one bartender, he was fast and at tentative. We did not have to wait long for our drinks and they were all well prepared. We enjoyed them sitting on the porch while we waited! It was lovely. Once our table was ready, we ordered the crab cakes appetizer and our entrees. I had the risotto and asked them if they could add scallops, and they happily accommodated our request. The food did take some time to come out (maybe 30-40 minutes) but it was the weekend of a big event in town and there were three big parties ahead of us. Once the food came out it was worth the wait! We all enjoyed our meal! There was a mix up with my friend's dish but they were quick to offer solutions, and she was still pleased with her meal. To further amend the mistake, the manager herself came over and offered us a free desert of our choosing! We had the flourless chocolate cake and loved it. If you're looking for a more upscale dinner with a beach vibe, this is the spot!

Gina P.

Yelp
The best of the best. Chef gets A 10 for the steak - 10+++++ for the Greek tort. Seriously unbelievable The salad dressing was out of this world. Worth the wait. Every time. Chef. You rocked it.

Cynthia S.

Yelp
5 star tribute to this great little restaurant on Sullivan's Island! A great big thank you to the staff that went out of their way to make us feel so welcome. It's always great when a waitress goes out her way to share stories. We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday Brunch experience and the Rare Seared Tuna Salad...OMG I'll definitely be back. My friend ordered the Corned Beef Hash and her thoughts were exactly the same. The ambiance is exactly what you expect on this quaint island town. We loved it so much that we lingered on the deck for at least 20 minutes sipping Sunday Brunch Magnolias. Do yourself a favor and stop by!

Yelp
I went here on a date and it was enjoyable. I believe the star of the show were the friendly staff. Our waitress was so nice. The ambiance of the place was also very pleasant. I think this place lacked in a good drink menu. Nothing really stood out to me to be a high quality cocktail. It was really basic drinks. I think they can up the creativity to make it up to standard with the food. I got a lamb meatball to start. The meatball was really good. Only 2 meatballs were on it. But I don't think a tomato sauce emphasizes the lamb. Honestly, could barely tell it was lamb, but it was super juicy. I would either like a beef/pork and more meatballs or lamb meatballs with a different sauce. For my entree I got the salmon and that was incredible. My only thing was maybe a little too much dill sauce. It sort of drowned my plate... but... everything else about the salmon dish was soooo yummy and decently creative. I'm a big fan of the salmon. Lastly, I tried a bite of my date's key lime pie. I know what to look for in a key lime pie, I've been to key west before and been on a key lime pie tour, and this pie was overly sweet for me. I would like it to be more tart and lime flavored.

Carol R.

Yelp
Great outdoor seating with heaters (we came in late October). The food here is delicious, no doubt about that. However, the portions are small. My entree salad came with two scallops and the crabcake entree had one small cake. The tuna entree was the only one at the table that seemed like a good size. Plan on having an appetizer or dessert.

Gryffian D.

Yelp
Fan-flipping-tastic!!! The food was amazing! The best we've had in Charleston so far. Obviously fresh and cooked to perfection. Look at the pictures! The pork was really good, the seafood and chicken pasta was great! The crab cakes were tasty as well. The staff and waitresses were friendly, we felt like family. Try this place, well worth it!

Yelp
Loved this little restaurant. Such a pleasant surprise. Was our last night in SC and we were at a small art gallery where the manager recommended we try High thyme -and so glad she did ! What a gem. The food is terrific. I had the Cioppino-light ,flavorful and the broth(it's all about the broth) was perfection. My daughter had the risotto-also cooked to perfection. Hubby and other daughter had the lasagna bolognese and they both raved about it -coming from my two fussiest eaters this was high praise. What's even better-very reasonably priced ! What a great way to end our trip. We will definitely come again when we are in town next spring.

Alice B.

Yelp
Breakfast in charleston on a Sunday is next to impossible So had to go to sullivans island and found this gem. Excellent food, good service and a bit pricey but so worth it. The corned beef hash was the best we ever had. Truly home made. I had the breakfast burrito and my husband had an omelette. We also ordered the French toast. Everything was definitely home made and delicious. Again charleston is very expensive to eat here. But this was a gem.

Tal F.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service, and good atmosphere. The owner stopped by to make sure everything is great and it was nice to hear their story. Highly recommended.

Chris W.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious cocktails and food. The people are awesome and friendly. The bar had a friendly neighborhood feel to it.

Rachel G.

Yelp
Simply impressed from beginning to end. Everyone here has the proper sense of urgency for their patrons and it almost feels like family. We were kindly greeted at the entrance and showed to our table that was kind of tucked away in the back of the restaurant with a little more room and a little more romance, as it was date night after all! The ambiance is super cute with a classy yet casual vibe. It is dimly lit with little tea lanterns on all the tables. Out front on the patio they have those classy heaters next to the seats (at first I was envious of those sitting out front, but became grateful after our amazing waitress Dede came to greet us and inform us of the specials going on that night. She was full of energy and personality. She had absolutely no problem asking the chefs the questions I had, even when I told her not to worry about it. I got a glass of the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (I wish I remembered the name of it because I ended up getting another glass mid meal to help finish off the amazing meal and have a little as dessert). But regardless, the rest of their drink list was nice and diverse with some things that were a bit more bold than what I chose. Now the food: (my boyfriend is quite the picky eater so we picked the things we knew he would enjoy since we split everything though next time I would love to be a bit more adventurous as they have a lot of interesting things, especially on the appetizer portion of the menu) so what'd we get? The braised short rib tacos to start which were almost melt in your mouth, yet very lean still. Next was the cauliflower cheese dip which was amazing and surprising and brilliant. There's just something about the texture and the creaminess and the perfect pieces of grilled flat bread and then paired with those cute green olives?! I never knew I would have so much to say about a cheese dip, let me tell you. For the main course we split the Linguini with chicken and sausage which was also lovely and plenty for two, especially after the two apps. I can't wait to come back to try some more of their menu!

Eileen M.

Yelp
Sat outside with a good atmosphere. Almost everything was great, pass on the creme brûlée flavored with ginger. Great service as well. Would recommend.

Candice G.

Yelp
What a delicious dinner in this hopping venue! Fried Chicken was great... as was the steak! Friendly and efficient staff made for a delightful evening for a couple of Californians !

Don G.

Yelp
Awesome food,. Appetizers spot on . Fish best ever You gotta try this place !! If you ever come to Charleston or Sullivans Island this is the place to go.

Anna K.

Yelp
We love coming here for dinner, the food is always sooo delicious. Tapas Tuesday's is our favorite night because we get to try lots of different things. The servers are always really friendly and helpful, and the food comes out quick, even when it's busy. It's a relatively small space, but it doesn't get too loud in there, which makes it a great place to dine with older folks who are hard of hearing. Make sure to get the cauliflower dip and the crab cakes, you won't be disappointed!

Dorian P.

Yelp
Very mediocre. We waited an hour for our food. When it arrived, there were some mistakes, and it all tasted like banquet hall food. Halibut special was season-less, mussels were goopy and undercooked, pork was just meat slathered in sweet chili sauce. We were starving, the kids were starving, so we ate. The staff was polite, but we were scolded twice for trying to adjust the curtains when the sun was beating in. Maybe help? Or move us to an empty table? There were tables available next to us.

LARRY P.

Yelp
favorite restaurant of all time in low country. all entree's are great. friendly staff. a great small bar. locals secret!!!!!

Jeff H.

Yelp
For dinner on Thursday.... Fine dining with a laid back, "island" vibe. Small, cozy dining room...walls adorned with beautiful panoramic art by local artist John Duckworth. Patio seating also available. Our party loved the PEI Mussels and Four Cheese Cauliflower Dip for starters, and my Flounder Special was excellent. Staff was friendly, knoweldegable and hard working. Brunch on the weekends. Highly recommended. Will return for sure.

Missy O.

Yelp
For years, locals have been telling us this was their favorite place on the island. We were drawn to newer shiny things. Almost as an obligation we recently tried High Thyme and we should have listened sooner. The place was bustling but the friendly hostess was able to get us a table quickly. The service was attentive and excellent without being overbearing- it was just right. The food was out of this world good- I had a special, tilefish, my husband had the salmon. Both were excellent. We commented on how hard every employee seemed to be working to give all the diners the best experience- exactly what a restaurant should be. We feel very lucky to have such a great place on the island.

May J.

Yelp
High Thyme not only has wonderful food, but the team there is amazing. I've just returned home from a birthday celebration of my grandson's girlfriend. It was perfect in every way from the amazing yellowtail tuna, the juicy tenderloin steak, and the tasty risotto to the warm welcome and superior service. They were happy to allow me to bring in a cake and they even lit the candles for her celebration. The High Thyme team went above and beyond in both service and food! Thank you so very much.

Jacque C.

Yelp
We tried the lasagna, arugula salad and a side of shrimp , pork chops and the beef tenderloin. All food was prepared well. Came hot and seasoned perfectly. Excellent service A little on the pricey side but ranged between 25-35$. Best deal was the lasagna for the money. Also you can order shrimp for a small fee for the salad and it was delicious. The only reason I did not give a five star was due to the cost but, in their defense.... the price seems to be comparable to many local restaurants. Went June 2021

Graham C.

Yelp
A few excerpts from my gal and I's brunch date: "Am I drooling" "I just want to bathe in these biscuits & use the butter as shampoo" "I cant stop drooling" Ask for DD amazing service.

Mark H.

Yelp
Excellent! Our evening started with Dede (Didi?) at the hostess stand and she was spot on full personality and wonderful. Our server, Nicole, knew exactly what she was doing, paid attention to details, had a great attitude and even shared time to laugh with us. We were a table of 4 ordering different meals with no one disappointed. In fact, everyone bragged about how they enjoyed their meal, as we shared bites. Didn't try the cocktails, but the menu looked good. The dessert... the flourless chocolate cake is rich as one would expect, but the density is more cake like than any other I have tried. The orange creme brulee was spot on. The wine we had was both delicious and appropriately priced. Inside, it can be a little loud, but we never had a problem conversing amongst our table. Can't wait to to back. Hope everyone that reads this has an equally amazing evening/meal.

Ellen W.

Yelp
High Thyme came highly recommended by friends. We celebrate our wedding anniversary every year with our good friends that have an anniversary the next day. When we arrived at our scheduled reservation time, there was a wait for our table. We wanted to get a drink while we waited and the bar was pretty full. While waiting to place our order, we were asked by the manager to wait outside. This wasn't ideal as it was chilly outside and we were still waiting to place our drink order. Slightly irritated at this point as 1. our table was not ready. 2. we wanted a drink while we waited and was patiently waiting to place our order. 3. now we're being asked to wait outside where it was chilly and no drink and no real timeframe on when our table would be ready. Manager comes up to us and we can see that she's not pleased that we're still inside. We explain to her that we are waiting to place an order at the bar. She informs us that if we wait outside she will personally come take our drink order. After a few our drink order is taken. And we wait...in the mean time our table came open so we moved inside. After 25 minutes of waiting our friend alerts the hostess that it's been 25 minutes and we still don't have our drinks and we've yet to see our server. I was about to snuggest we go somewhere else when our drinks finally arrived as well as our waitress. As busy as they were, our server greeted us with the biggest smile. When she was at our table she was never distracted by anything else going on. And there were plenty of distractions. She went over the specials and was super friendly. After placing our order, the hostess came over and apologized and told us that she guaranteed it would get better from this point on. The manager also came over to speak with us. Like our waitress, both ladies had this big contagious smile and personality. One even gave my husband a hug . Okay so the southern charm has taken the irritation down a bit, after all it was our anniversary celebration. Our food arrived and the ladies were right. It did get better!! It was tapas night so we ordered several small plates for us all to share. Food was good. Presentation was perfect. What made the night was the staff. Because of their attitude, we forgot about the issues that plagued us when we first arrived. We will definitely go back.

Yelp
A clear sign of a great restaurant. My wife and I came in for dinner last night (Wednesday night). They were packed. Not surprising given the consistent high quality, healthy and depth of the flavor of their food offerings from starters to entrees to dessert. But on this occasion, Colby, the owner, rather than let us wait, saw a space on the floor, grabbed a table-for-two from the porch, and set it up inside the restaurant. This is why they have a loyal clientele, among them my wife and me. 5 years. Bravo, Colby.

Doug J.

Yelp
Outstanding food! Great atmosphere. This is an excellent restaurant with a variety of delicious seafood entrees as well as steaks and pork chops. Plus a terrific wine selection and bar service. Highly recommend!

Keith M.

Yelp
This is the best for local friends, good wine, friendly staff and great food. Wednesday is half price wine (on selected wines) and here on Sullivan's Island, the night for High Thyme. The lasagna is some of the best ever but don't miss the pan seared scallops. Caesar salad is perfect! Love this local Island restaurant.

Frank G.

Yelp
Amazing food, good people, lots to eat. Had Sunday brunch, wait was a little long but worth it. Had the French Toast. Wish apples were on the side, since they got a little mushy. Overall, good experience will go back again. Frank G

Valerie V.

Yelp
Went to The Obstinate Daughter for dinner but they had a 2 hour wait. So we walked to High Thyme. We were seated pretty quickly. The service was great and the food was excellent.

Megan D.

Yelp
The food here is delicious!! I recommend the huevos rancheros! The grits are exceptional as well! They serve biscuits as an appetizer and the mimosas are brunch are incredible! Can't say enough!

Gayle L.

Yelp
My family and I took a shot at this restaurant because they offered one of my favs- Cioppino!! Was just delicious. My 5 year old granddaughter tried the lasagna. Was a big hit. The service was great. We will surely visit again. I can't wait to try the crab cake and the scallops. I watched them being served to an adjacent table. Yum!

Dave B.

Yelp
Amazing food, we especially loved the braised beef tacos, yellowfin tuna and salmon. Friendly and attentive service. Definitely eating here each time we come to the island.

Marvin W.

Yelp
Had a good experience at High Thyme last weekend. One person in the group had an issue with the preparation of a filet, these things happen. Everything else was well prepared and service was excellent. I would go again.

Brian T.

Yelp
Awesome spot with excellent service and great food. A big favorite doing their best and making it happen in hard times. Way to go 'Matt C.' for taking out your childish frustrations with city municipal officials and mandates on local businesses, real mature to attempt to harm the struggling restaurant business.

Laura W.

Yelp
Excellent! Thoroughly enjoyed finding this place to eat at. I had grilled beef tenderloin that was very tender served with heirloom tomato salad, asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. Very delicious! My husband had the lasagna which was very tasty. My daughter had ciopinno and her husband had the pork chop. All were wonderful. Definitely want to visit again on our next trip to Sullivan's Island.
