"Isaac White and Anthony Singleton opened Highland Bistro at the corner of Highland Avenue and Sampson Street in the Old Fourth Ward. The somewhat troubled space has been home to a number of restaurants over the past six years, including P’cheen, Last Word, Cast Iron, the Barrelhouse, and most recently Chef’d Up. The menu features burgers and hot dogs, entrees such as shrimp and grits, and a selection of vegan dishes. White and Singleton want to become part of the neighborhood, which includes eventually hosting nonprofit events, live music, and weekly trivia nights at Highland Bistro. Another initiative they hope to kick off involves offering breakfast dishes on the menu benefiting area nonprofits. Take a look at the menu below. Masks required." - Beth McKibben

"Isaac White and Anthony Singleton open Highland Bistro at the corner of Highland Avenue and Sampson Street in the Old Fourth Ward early next year. The somewhat troubled space has been home to a number of restaurants over the past six years, including P’cheen, Last Word, Cast Iron, the Barrelhouse, and most recently Chef’d Up. At 50 seats, Highland Bistro will open for dine-in service and offer takeout and delivery. The menu features vegan dishes like broccoli nuggets, a portobello Philly, and an Impossible burger as well as hot dogs, wings, and chicken and waffles. Look for frozen cocktails at the bar." - Beth McKibben

"This is the second closure to hit this portion of Highland Avenue in a week. Mexican spot Across the Street shocked neighbors and regulars last week when it suddenly closed after 11 years." - Beth McKibben

Update 2: Is this place now closed? I just stopped by and the doors are locked, lights off and patio furniture removed! I am so sad! Plus, the phone number is no longer in service. Update: A family member and I stopped in for lunch again on the way to Midtown. Everything was delicious, and the Buffalo Broccoli was a great vegan substitute for wings. I love everything I ever tasted on the menu. Earlier: My party thoroughly enjoyed the food and service! They can't hardly wait to go again! The wings are highly recommended as well as the chicken and waffle. The pasta was also a hit. You really can't go wrong no matter what you order.

Great spot for urban professionals to mix and mingle. The staff is friendly, warm and accommodating. Drea was a server❤ She did an excellent job. She made us feel like we were her priority, not just another customer. Great music, atmosphere and positive vibe. We had the nachos with chili, fish and chips, shrimp and grits.

What a great overall experience. We came here because the location had great reviews. We stopped here for brunch for my mom's 70th birthday. Love the atmosphere and the vibes. The staff was wonderful and made us feel very welcomed and like we were at home. They were able to accommodate 8 people with no problem. The food portion was well enough. The menu selection was perfect for what we were looking for. I had a chicken salad and it was so good. I loved the balsamic dressing. Some of the things we ordered were chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, chicken tacos, fish tacos and Philly cheesesteaks. The chef was amazing and came and let us try their bread pudding, which was good we were fighting over it. Please visit you won't be disappointed. A great new jewel spot. Thanks for helping us celebrate our mom's 70th birthday.

Amazing!! Great atmosphere. The food is so good! You can definitely tell it is cooked with love! I've been 3 times since they've opened and I've got a new favorite spot. Even my mom liked it. We went for Valentine's Day. I got the nachos with shrimp and she got the blackened salmon pasta. 😋😋😋 Great pricing, location, atmosphere, customer service, Everything! And free street parking. I will be back next week

Visited Highland Bistro with some friends that were in town. It was our first time coming here. We walked in around 1PM and the place was empty so we were seated right away. They had a live DJ which was cool but at times a bit too loud for an empty restaurant. I ordered a slushy drink ($8) and it was pretty great. For my entree, I ordered the chicken and waffles. When it came out I was a little disappointed because it didn't look like previous chicken and waffles. It looked like chicken strips and waffle. The bourbon syrup and peppercorn butter were not included as the menu suggested. The service was great so no complaints about that. Not a place that left a memorable experience.

The menu is not that extensive and everybody that works there is SUPER NICE! The food is good, service is slow but they make you feel like your at your home or a family members house that you love going to. I will go back but only if I don't have much to do. Chicken nachos, fried broccoli, buffalo cauliflower, lemon pepper jerk wings and an order of fries.

Highland Bistro does not disappoint. This is my second time having their food but my first time dining in. My bf, his friend, and myself visited on a Friday evening. We sat in a booth, were given menus, then greeted by our waitress Lauren. She brought us waters and took our drink orders. I ordered a Kentucky Lemonade which did not disappoint. The alcohol was subtle but you knew it was there, not too strong but just strong enough. I had to order a second one. For appetizer we ordered the broccoli nuggets, which were once again amazing. Seasoned and fried to perfection. I wanted to try something new, so I ordered the Highland Philly and subbed for portabello mushrooms. My bf ordered the blackened salmon pasta sub shrimp and his friend ordered the blackened salmon pasta. They also each had a Bistro Mule, which they liked. My bf also ordered the fish tacos to go with the house chips. The fish is cod which was refreshing. We put it in the air fryer the next morning and they were delicious. Fish was fried well and there was a nice heat to the taco and those house chips were good! Everything was delicious. Seasoned well and cooked properly. We were definitely satisfied customers. We spoke with Lauren about our experience and she said she was going to share our comments. We will definitely be back especially for the broccoli nuggets, lol. Plus it's a black owned business!

We've had HB twice now, and both times have been wonderful. The first time we ordered nachos, a reuben, and cauliflower bites to-go. The cauliflower bites were borderline for me, but the reuben (+fries) and nachos were GREAT. Second visit, we had wings, salmon pasta and fish & chips. The wings and salmon pasta were so delicious, but I wasn't a huge fan of the f&c (good, but nothing special). The service is fantastic, the atmosphere is chill, and overall HB is just a great, casual restaurant. Also, I was thrilled that there wasn't a huge wait at 6:30-7pm on a Saturday night. Great food, service and prices! Thanks Dree for the awesome experience!
