Changes need to be made in the pharmacy and their employees and system.it takes way to long and they act like they are wotking for free like they dont want to be here or work.we have to do better.please it shouldn't take this long.i have been coming here for years and i never had to "check in" once the emergency dept sends the refferal you go to the pharmacy and wait for your name to show.there is an asian lady older slim.with glasses who has a bad attitude.if i was the undercover boss she would be fired for insubordination under her leadership or influence its becoming an inconducive experience for the residenta of oakland. Me being one of many who are not tonhappy with her or whats going on up here.th2 emergency dept said my medicine would be ready when i get there but after 20 minutes of waiting in line the lady i mentioned said i have to " wait 45 minute" because i didnt check in🤔 also when i got home they forgot one of my medications.can we stop this please

My 93-year-old mother who was once an RN, had a bad fall last week and had to be taken into Highland Hospital via ambulance. Unfortunately I live out of state and couldn’t be with her, but when she returned home the next day I asked her how her care was at Highland. Expecting to hear the worse being an Oakland Hospital, she went on and on about how great they were. They had treated her with such good care and concern. The Nurses were all wonderful and very attentive. The hospital staff was professional and very thorough in checking all her injuries. Her whole experience at Highland was very positive. It made me very happy to hear there are still hospitals in the Oakland/Berkeley area that treat their patients this well. They did not rush to get her processed and done with but they did treat her in a very timely manner. Kudos to all those Doctors and Nurses at Highland Hospital ER and also to the fire department EMTs/paramedics who transported her there.

I came to highland with a bum knee my pain level is at a 12. I have been here for almost 10 hours. I have experience the worst treatment ever. To top it off i had a bed in the er. The rudest nurse Teresa johnson. I told her that I needed to use the bathroom she very rudely said "you have to wait, I am going to give a patient meds" i informed her that it was an emergency she rudely said again "you have to wait" i told her that she was very rude and that she had terrible bedside manners. I was due to get a ct scan l keep in mind that I still had my gown on the nurse teresa johnson had the adacity to basically kick me out of the bed i had and told me the change into my clothes in the public bathroom. I have never received treatment from a hospital facility like this ever.

My dad went into the emergency room last month while I was out of state. The ER staff was excellent and called me several times with updates until I could get there. Also the follow up in neurology was so appreciated. We are blessed to have such a high quality hospital in Oakland!!!

I had a 2nd surgery there a few days ago and the whole process was much smoother than the 1st. I was scheduled to go to the OR at 7:45. They called me back around 6:15am and my nurse, Sapphire, was awesome. She got all the pre-op and check in stuff done quickly and she was so nice. Surgery started on time and went well. My only complaint is that I felt a little rushed to leave. I know it’s not the staff’s fault. I’m sure the hospital admin is telling them to get us out asap after surgery but 30 more minutes would’ve been better for my nausea. The nurses in post op were really nice though.

I was on admission on Nov 24, 2025. I didn't even feel a symptom, I drove myself, but Doctors identified my problem, examined me thoroughly and gave me prescription. I'm ok as at now and need a check up if I require drugs or no more drugs. But I've received a bill, hmm. They are great and will always visit and recommend.

I went in with an hyperinflamed liver & going through withdrawals. Was admitted to the emergency room and spent two nights there. All of my nurses were great- shoutout Maryann & Celine. Doctor Nathan took great care of me and walked me through everything and even their AA bridge program stopped by to walk me through. Left and walked through their garden. 10/10

My father had his dental surgery at the dental department of this hospital. Before coming here, he had visited two other clinics but was eventually referred to here. I noticed that some reviews mentioned difficulties in getting an appointment here, but that is largely due to the medical system and limited resources. Despite this, the entire dental team was very professional and they acted with the patient's best interests in mind. I especially want to thank Dr. Rachel Li , who consolidated my father's originally planned multiple appointments on different days into one day and performed his oral surgery. Even though her schedule was already busy, she went above and beyond on the day of the procedure to ensure everything was completed successfully. Considering that my father has hearing loss and was unable to communicate during the surgery, her patience and compassion meant a lot to us. We truly appreciate the help and excellent care provided by the entire dental team.

Yelp
Look. My healthcare isn't the best. But they handle it. It can be time consuming to see the right person. It has to be booked far ahead of time. But look. I'm happy to have myself be taken care of for the things I need. Did it take literally months to have my dental work taken care of? Yes. But it was eventually taken care of and my life has been much better since then. Did it take hours of being in line on the phone, transferred, told I was talking to the wrong person. Called my health insurance and they couldn't figure it out... but eventually, after pouring enough time into it I was able to get the surgery I needed... and it all worked out. It's not the hospital I want but it's the hospital I need.

Yelp
Dr. Camille Jackson, vascular surgeon was phenomenal. She is receiving 10 stars from me. My uncle underwent a vascular procedure and Dr. Jackson was highly recommended. She is extremely intelligent, competent, experienced and has a caring heart. The blood flow to his vessels is back to normal and he is able to engage in his prior activities. I also would like to thank the staff and everyone who provided care to him. They were warm, compassionate, knowledgeable and we knew he was in good hands. Thanks again for providing such wonderful care.

Yelp
I give Dr. Lee five stars in the dental clinic as well as her assistant Anyen It is very difficult for me to go to the dentist so they are having distraction for the first time of my life. I was woke. The only thing I felt honestly was the pressure just so she explained she was very thorough about keeping me updated step-by-step, and completed the process With almost no pain. I cannot believe it. I'm so happy to say I've done it but only with Dr. Lee at Highland Hospital she was the best I've ever seen in my 50+ years of life. With a little laughing, gas and lidocaine.

Yelp
It's Sept 2024, and my job sent me to Highland Hospital on Kaiser business. Security entry at the main entrance requires walking thru a metal detector, possible wanding, and dumping all your stuff in a bin. On Sept 3, the guards were very nice and professional. The process is quick. They're looking for weapons, and there's an "Amnesty Dropbox" right outside. I had to go to Radiology, which is on the 3rd floor of the new building. It's a long walk from the main entrance. On the way, I walked pass the ER and a security checkpoint. You get to X-Ray, and I have to wait. The Record Clerk goes on lunch, and no one covers her desk while she's gone. A line forms, and everyone just waits. Overall, I good experience at this County hospital. I can never say anything bad about Highland because they saved my life in 1989. As always, thank you.

Yelp
The way you all treated my husband was disgraceful my husband is type 2 diabetic he takes 20 units daily you cut it to 3. You took all his prescribed medication one which was for anxiety, even his Lyrica, you replaced it with either very low doses or nothing at all. He now keeps collapsing due to not having any anxiety medication in his system, this was happening in the hospital Floor 8 room 11. The nurse, stepped over him when he was on the floor and said he was faking it! This isn't the last you have heard from me/us!!

Yelp
Urgent care appointment today. Same day appt due to need for rx refill and on waiting list for a wellness appointment. Out in thirty mins. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Don't walk away, RUN! If you have an upcoming surgery, go to San Leandro Hospital or anywhere else. Anywhere else!! It took them 7!! times to poke me under the skin to get my IV. San Leandro Hospital got it in one less than 4 days later. It's not me, it's the nurses. I woke up in a bed of urine and feces. The nurses at the nursing station which I was facing were on their phones and waved back to me that "my nurse" was "out" and would be there when she got there. Ultimately I got up, cleaned myself up and put the sheets etc in a ball and in the appropriate bin and walked. Only a security guard stopped me and said that I had to go in a wheelchair. Some discussion followed. They BROKE my front tooth even with a tooth protector and I had to have it extracted, it was broken horizontally. I have to see if another tooth can be saved next week. Nobody ALIVE would tell me where my appointment was and I was sent to the NURSES LOCKER ROOM. Through security that nobody checked and on my way through the door into surgery as I was lost, a male nurse stopped me and was shocked at how the hell I got there... Sorry for being disrespectful but this was the worst experience I've ever had with any surgery and I've had a few. I've never had ANY of these. Go to a better hospital. One where they actually CARE.

Yelp
WORST HOSPITAL IN OAKLAND, CA! The employees here are rude asfk, very unprofessional. They move with no urgency; everyone looks like they hate their job. Some of the nurses lack empathy, 2 of them were nice. If you need to go to the hospital let this be your last option.

Yelp
Great hospital run by residents and nice staff! Parking is a pain in the butt but it's right before the ambulance parking. Navigation is also somewhat confusing, make sure you go to the right building and ask the staff if you need help. Dr. Singh is very kind and walked me through all the steps of getting medication for health conditions as well as much needed shots. Will be coming back! Wait was less than 5 minutes!

Fumie S.

Yelp
DO NOT let RESIDENT WON HEE CHO work on you! He damaged the nerve in my face during an extraction! At the time of the surgery he knew he was struggling because he said so! He still didnt ask for help when he could have at any time during the surgery since he's a resident! He cut my mouth so many times I got an infection at the incision site and when I came back for an examination because I was in sooooo much pain he couldnt even explain his technique of how many times he cut me to the supervising staff! I told them on the onset I had low pain tolerence in his notes he put I have high pain tolerence! When I asked for pain medication they treated me like I was a hype! He had zero compassion for me as a patient ..never even made a phone call To me after he knew he messed me up ..very detached. They placate and gaslight you when you have an issue with their work! Chief of students described him as very competent and said he performed at the necessary standard of care ..and they only give 2% of patients pain meds after surgery wayyyyyyy below the national standard! I havent been able to resume my normal life since ians ive had a sinus and respiratory infection i cant get rid off annnnd no sense of smell! Its been almost 2 months! Stay away from this resident! No accountability!

Yelp
Came here due to DIFFICULTY BREATHING because of an affected/collapsed EUSTACIAN TUBE = & AGAIN with lazy, frustrated, dismissive staff. What am i on or what drugs have I taken?? Arguing even. Last night I report PARCHED SYMPTON and the "rn" said: cdrink water then". I explain I've been thirty ALL day, she curtly responded, "don't drink water then", sets my wheelchair in an area it SHOULDN'T be in and proceeds to go report ME to security, talking about "I can't be there" - nurse, "you put me here"?! wtf?? The ER staff here is beyond subpar and should reconsider working elsewhere. CARE is what is needed and that is utterly absent here. Security on the other hand: caring, considerate & helpful. Went home: figured if I died - might as well be at home.... needless to say i didn't & I'm grateful to myself for that.

Yelp
I've been receiving care from Highland Hospital for the past two months. They have all been so fantastic, caring and present. Yesterday, I had emergency surgery and felt so cared for. Each person was humanizing, patient and genuine. Answered all my questions with non-medical jargon & clear instructions. I'm so grateful for the team that has supported me!

Elle W.

Yelp
They've created a diabolical system where there is literally no way for me to contact my Primary Care doctor. Their phone system is labyrinthine and sends you to voicemail boxes. Their MyChart literally directs you to their phone system. This is, without a doubt, the worst care provider I've ever dealt with in my entire life, and that life has included some of the worst care providers in the San Francisco area.

Yelp
My sister had an appointment for knee surgery follow up and we came to the 4th level of the parking garage. As soon as we entered the door near the parking area, there was a security woman sitting down. She did not greet me, she began to say "put all your things down in the bin". I had let her know that my sister has crutches and cannot walk and I asked kindly to get a wheelchair to us. The security then took a long time to say it on the walkie. she ignored me and then finally mentioned it to a volunteer. the wheelchair then came and the security said "you can go over here and sit down" she said it in the most disrespectful way. I then asked her if I could get my belongings .. she said "YES PLEASE" in a rude manner. my experience here at highland has always been great but to be the first person that we see and be disrespectful to us patients is by far the worst. She should be held accountable. This happened around 1:10pm on September 15th.

Nicholas T.

Yelp
This ER probably can do most things, but they're overwhelmed by patients who have gunshot wounds or appear to be going through drug withdrawal.

Sheelah W.

Yelp
I just enjoyed another follow up visit with my wonderful oncologist, Dr. Knopf. He answered all my questions and gave me sage advice, as always. Dr. Knopf is extraordinarily skilled and knowledgeable. He is also compassionate, thoughtful and patient. He leads a team of devoted people who have saved my life twice ... so far. I owe my health and happiness to all of them. Sheelah Weaver

Yelp
Today my father had an appointment at the cardiology department for a Echocardiogram and the person that performed that to my dad was so rude from the moment he called my dad from the waiting room to go inside the room. He seemed like he didn't care he just wanted to get it over with and when he called someone in to help him with the IV he started to yap about personal stuff with him, when my dad was literally getting his echo done. To me personally it was really unprofessional. When it was done he didn't even help my dad to get up from the bed or wipe the gel he applied to his chest he just left the towel on his chest and told me I could wipe it off now. He walked out with the other person to continue yapping. I was very disappointed. They need to better their staff here.

Yelp
Don't care about their patients, talk down to you as if your uneducated and stupid, ignore your medical needs, even emergency needs. Medical field is horrible now, been here with family and myself, family member needed to be checked for a stroke instead they asked was this her normal behavior, other family member was told medicine isn't a science when it is. People from all over the world work here, but treat you like shit while getting their training and not treating you. They don't care if you drop dead, don't take me there in an emergency. Almost every employee who works here are complacent and don't care, yes we all work for our money. But in the medical field you should really care, you have people lives in your hand . Joke of a hospital and clinics.

Yelp
This is specifically for the Bridge Clinic at Highland: I have yet to encounter a more dedicated and personalized program as has been established by the Bridge Clinic. I've dealt with both opioid and alcohol addictions - and through all the ups, downs, ins, and outs, the Bridge team has kept a kind and keen eye on me and my recovery. Every interaction with their team has shown that they are paying attention to my complex medical history - and they are all exceedingly knowledgeable, thoughtful, reassuring, and helpful. I cannot recommend the Bridge Clinic highly enough.

Yelp
I continue to appreciate how fantastic Highland has been. In the 7 months of follow up care that my ninety plus mom has received after being hit by a car that broke her leg from Highland, specifically Dr Nicoleau (very understanding) and the orthopedic clinic (call center, medical assistants, x-ray techs, & the clinic's front desk people), my mom has always been treated with kindness, patience & respect. They have been very responsive when we've needed new orders or a letter for insurance. I've always felt like they are on our side. And thanks to everyone's skill & compassion, she is at her independent living apartment and walking now! I can't thank Highland enough. You guys are the best!

Yelp
Apparently if you go to the emergency room on the weekend, the wait is exponentially better. I didn't know that, I did know I was bleeding- no pain but lots of blood. They brought me to a back room and where it was filled with other people there and you could hear the clanks of handcuffs, it truly was better than thinking I was dying. The nurses were kind or if they weren't, they were still passionate about making sure I was going to leave okay. If you go, bring some noise canceling headphones, a charger and eye mask. Also, the reception is bad but the internet surprisingly good. Install some apps so you can communicate with your family. Don't be surprised if you see a team of doctors at your bed. Some are residents that are still fresh faced with hairlines and zero wrinkles, eager to learn from the experience and ready to help you once they leave. Go ahead and treat them with dignity. The last part that only occurred to me once I was feeling better was that the staff, doctors, nurses, techs were of all kinds of diverse backgrounds which personally made me feel very safe. I heard multiple languages being spoken. My voice was heard and taken seriously.

Yelp
In the last four years I've been in and out of Highland approximately 100 times, sometimes overnight sometimes for a week and those people have been so good to me--everywhere from the cafeteria to the medical records office and especially Dr. Frederickson--that today while thinking of all that in the ER--I started to cry a bit. You have been nothing but professionals and not just that but caring professionals and that's what matters most if you ask me. Thank you Highland Hospital and God bless all you kind hearted people.

D E.

Yelp
This review is for the patient/visitor parking lot only. All of the people--from security to the receptionists to the nurses to the doctors--were all kind and helpful and knowledgeable. However, the parking lot is the clusterfuck to end all clusterfucks. If awards were given for clusterfucks, it would win top prize and blow all other competition out of the water. The first time we went, it took 10 minutes just to get into the lot. Once we got in the lot, it took another 10 just to get to the ramp to the second level. It turns out this was because several morons leaving the lot decided to turn the two-way lanes (one going in/up, one going out/down) into a one-way thoroughfare (out/down only). Things finally started moving when a parking attendant started directing traffic. When we left, it took a good 30 minutes to exit. (The line wrapped around to between the 2nd and 3rd parking levels.) None of the payment machines in the hospital/garage work, so you have to wait for everyone to pay the attendant at the bottom. The second time we went (which makes me a masochist or an idiot, or maybe both), we got in okay, but it took us almost an hour to leave. It was nuts. I thought I was going to have a rage-induced heart attack. (So I guess it's a good thing I was stuck in a hospital parking lot???) It's just sooo ridiculous. Especially because you end up paying more than you should because time keeps accruing as you try to leave. Like we were in the hospital for two hours, but ended up having to pay for three because we were stuck in the lot for so long. Parking is relatively cheap (I think we paid like $3-4), but it's the principle. I would actually prefer just paying a $5 flat rate upon entry if it made leaving less of an infuriating debacle. But hopefully *knocks on wood* I never have to go back.

Yelp
The Dentist Gilbert S. Yee at Highland Hospital Dental Clinic in Oakland, CA broke my tooth because he was talking & looking at students in the examination room. Dr. Yee promised to repair his error, lead me on & on with appointments & promises then failed to make the repair. The Dental Office that originally did my dental work told me that my Dental bridge is not repairable & must be replaced. I demanded correction immediately then he lied & said it broke due to popcorn when I didn't have popcorn, he used something resembling a plier tool. The Facility now refuses to take responsibility. I am so disappointed in Highland Hospital & their Board of Directors for the "Cover Up" they have created to avoid repairing my dental work only to save $7500. #donottrusthighlandhospital

Yelp
This review begins with walking through the front door of Highland Hospital in Oakland and may provide information that explains particular situations, possibly accompanied by hints for new patients such as myself. For example, going on the third week of internment my bedside table divulged a second top surface that slides out, so keep in mind potential points of ignorance are always possible within any experience. Security at the front door checks your bags and passes you through a metal detector. Any disallowed items such as a pocket knife or lighter will be disposed of, or you may enter again later. Bring identification and medical insurance information if possible. For an extended stay consider a change of underwear, hat to keep your ears warm at night, phone charger with six foot cord and maybe even a book, magazine or something else to read. Visiting hours are 10am - 10pm, otherwise security can route things to your room. I was coughing and at that stage of illness where you are feeling better but still have plenty of loogies to hack up. My employer insisted that I be cleared for work before returning, so off to Highland for a brief checkup. Admittance proceeded quickly, no standing in line, wrist band was issued, a call back to the window for temperature, blood pressure and oxygen levels. I then took a seat in the waiting area with other patients, none of whom appeared to be homeless. Coughing up sputum into tissues seemed to expedite this duration, to avert contagion no doubt, although wearing a face mask of course. I spent some hours in the basement, likely taking a chest x-ray and giving blood samples; recollection is a bit fuzzy yet. An isolation room soon became available by miracle of coincidence whereby a wheelchair whisked me upstairs and into a private suite having a view of the sky and low wall to prevent falling off the adjacent roof corner. A nurse is assigned to you, their internal number written on your dry-board, charge nurse as well and often a CNA name and number all of which vary from floor to floor but are generally consistent between shift changes. These five digits are dialed from your bedside phone. Loop the cord through a convenient handle on an upper side bedrail so the phone may be retrieved in case it falls to the floor, even when you are not able to move around easily. Night-owl nurses tend to be attentive, however if you cannot reach your nurse, try pressing the large "Nurse" button centrally located on the television remote control. The wired remote includes a 3.5mm plug for headphones on one side. Unplug this before utilizing the nurse button! (your eardrums will thank you) The first meal was mostly just two large meatballs, ensuing breakfast similarly sparse, showcasing two french toast. Figuring there must be a wider selection, including scrambled eggs hopefully, was rewarded with a menu for placing meal orders. Often the selections were better than adequate. You can also ask your nurse for snacks - bread with lunchmeat, juice, pudding or graham crackers. One nurse brought mayo and mustard to go with the sandwich. I was moved to a duplex room replete with a neighbor patient and two curtains for privacy after contraindication of isolation. Each room appeared clean and contained reclining chairs; the second one had a nice view of the hills and temple. Blood samples were taken every morning, usually by "vampires", a specialized form of nurse - all gentle pokers for the most part. My wristband was fastidiously scanned before administering medications or field trips to the CT, but perhaps not always after the critical stages of treatment had been resolved. Various specialists certainly recognized me by then. Your nurse remains the same (day or night shifts) for their tour of duty, then they are off for a few days. I didn't see any of them again, as they are rotated elsewhere. You have to assert some responsibility for your own care; if your dressing is leaking be sure to specify that you need the bedsheets changed and a fresh gown, not just that the dressing requires changing. Ask for help tying the gown in back or figure out how to tie it up backwards without looking. Wipe down nearby actionable surfaces with alcohol prep pads. Your IV should be replaced every four days and have the date written. Small details you wouldn't realize had you never been hospitalized for any amount of time could influence the outcome. The nitty gritty: what on earth was wrong with me? At first the exact pathogen was unidentified, so a spread spectrum medley of various antibiotics (all of them) were in turn dripped through my IV - actually two, a fresh IV in the other arm for the first CT scan - including vanco which I assume was version three because some strains of staph are resistant to version one. The nurse I asked didn't know which and it was disco shortly thereafter. It wasn't TB either, nor covid - confirming the diy covid test result from a few weeks prior. (to be con'd)

Yelp
Been sick for about a week now. Covid + Minor Strep Throat ‍ Could barely talk yesterday let alone open wide for the strep test. But I have to say Highland ER is on their STUFF! Those nurses and docs heard my pain and were empathetic and got straight to work towards my healing. Got a wonderful steroid shot yesterday along with pain relievers ! Im not 100% (more like 75% for now) but I'm back to seeing and appreciating the things that make me smile. Thanks Highland

Yelp
This hospital is so disgusting! Just filthy!! Homeless people everywhere!! Workers seem mostly nice....

Yelp
Maybe after construction is finished this hospital will be better. But for now, I avoid this place. So glad I have better Insurance now and go to Kaiser. Highland hospital needs some better staff. People can be so rude here! You wait forever just to ask someone a question. Like what the f do you get paid for if you're just gonna be talking to security and your coworkers, not doing your damn job! It's always the same I used to come here for my OBGYN appointments, that was out! They were just horrible here. No customer service! They need a new cleaning staff cause it was dirty. Hopefully after construction, they hire better staff!

Yelp
On a busy weekend night, the waiting room at the ER admitted and registered me in a quick, professional manner. The administration, security, and janitorial staff worked diligently the whole time I waited, which surprisingly was not that long. Once I got admitted into the hospital, I was given a clean gown and bed. The staff, again, from the doctors, nurses, EMTs, administration, security, and janitorial, not only took great care of me but all patients and did it in an accepting kindness and compassion manner. I'm not sure if you could ever say going to the hospital is a 5-star experience, but the people I encountered there certainly were and should be commended for their grace, professionalism, and empathy. Thank you for being

Yelp
The doctors in the icu just literally killed my aunt... the fact that they're so in a rush to "free up a bed," is crazy. A lawsuit is coming immediately.

Yelp
They are marketed as 24 hours, but they don't let people in like that until 7 am. Everything opens at 7 am, and there is only one nurse working on the floor. One elderly lady waited for eight hours, and another lady is waiting for over an hour. They are extremely busy with people not really being helped just sleeping in the hospital.

Yelp
This hospital has got a bad name over the years. I've been taking my brother to this hospital for 3 years now and the care they provide is amazing. I wish I could switch to highland hospital but I live to far.

Yelp
I was born in this hospital in1955. After being here today it's a mad house. No reason I'm so messed up. Just being here makes me appreciate Kaiser hospital even more.. I suggest that you work hard and do everything you can to avoid going to a county hospital. Oh by the way, I'm here with someone else. I go to Kaiser or the VA.

Yelp
1st of all the staff is great, customer service in person is really great! on the phone also, when you can get through, I've had the best residential Dr's and then just like puff the magic dragon there gone in 3 yrs after their residence training is up. But i have a real dr. Now and 2 visits with her and my instincts are always on point. Dr. Ortiz is a real Dr. Certified, I like her, and she knows her stuff, her Medical Asst Vanessa is also the bomb. Thank you Both

Yelp
Highland Hospital ER: if you are not a gunshot wound, skull or multiple fracture, amputation or not breathing, pick another hospital. That is what they do here. For non-life threatening emergency the wait is regularly around 12-14 hours, no kidding. That wait time is normal for this hospital. When I got there early Sunday evening, the wait was six hours. At 2AM, my estimated wait time was another five hours. Not only is the wait time the worst I've ever seen, but this place is scary. I saw an escaped 5150 and cop chase, then later a sherif ran up and asked me "did you see a guy go this way?!" They also have "Regulars"...homeless people who go there to sleep. Any given night most of the people in the waiting room are homeless people escaping the cold. The security guard handles them well and quiets them quickly each time they start yelling but its still not a place you ever want to be. A strange, silent comradery formed between me and the others patiently waiting and listening to the many level two and three traumas coming in, knowing each one would mean another hour waiting, but not complaining because they're literally performing major surgeries to try and save peoples lives with five minutes notice multiple times an hour. The one great thing I experienced here is the security team. They have a hard job but they are wonderful...major props!! They are respectful and non-judgemental to everyone, very diligent and effective. As bad as the situation is there I knew they would have my back if anything horrible happened, which made a big difference in my comfort level while waiting.

Yelp
This review is for the ER. I was brought there after a motorcycle accident. despite there being multiple emergencies coming in while I was there, all the staff was attentive and helpful. I was left for short periods they came back to check on me. I was visited by multiple doctors and nurses. Even fed (OK review is not about the food lol). I am sure the billing will be a different story. Special thanks to a doctor named Stephanie and an RN named Eileen who were both friendly and courteous and gave me extra tips how to care for my injuries after release.

Yelp
DO NOT. I REPEAT DO NOT GO HERE. I admitted myself two years ago into the ER during Covid. I was severely sick. Covid restrictions did not allow anyone to come into the hospital with the patient. Nurses were overloaded. I was stuck in there for over 10 hours with my nurse coming back every two hours to check in. Got so hungry that I had to walk out of my room to try to find my nurse (while I am dressed in a cloth). Could not find her anywhere. Instead, I found someone who was a PREDATOR. He worked as an EMT come to find out later and came into my room. Asking me inappropriate questions. Giving me his number on a slip of paper and asking about my boyfriend. He IN FACT gave me a fake name. His real name is Dan Cushing. He roofied and raped me several months later. Please watch out for predators at this hospital. I know if my boyfriend, mom, or father was there he wouldn't have violated every security and personal right. I forever have to live with the fact that I was raped by this 50 year old man. I was 22 at the time.

Yelp
This place is useless. There's no parking so I had to walk a mile to get to the entrance and they have idiots standing around making you empty your pockets and when they decide you can't have something like a lighter they tell you that you have to walk back a mile to your car or they will steal it (ie a zippo). The last thing they could do is make anyone really safe, they don't know the meaning. Don't push your political agenda, I'm just here to pick up meds for my wife. Then, and mind you you already received a call saying your prescription is ready, well it never really is and they want you to wait an hour with uncertain parking. Maybe that's their strategy. Anyway, this place is a pile of trash.

Yelp
I see some pretty negative comment out there , so let me clarify 2 points , Why do you come to an hospital to get care or to have a relaxing time most likely at the taxpayers expenses ? Should you come for medical care there are sadly few hospital in California which can compare with their trauma unit ( Thanks to the NRA and lack of gun control) This is an hospital which is located in the center of the war zone and save every year hundreds of people gunned down in the east bay and elsewhere this aside they do deal with quite a large number of road and street accident , work related or like me falling from a ladder . The trauma team work better than a Swiss clock , you can toss a clock , can you do the same with a life . Paramedic where in contact with them upon my arrival I was clef head to toes asked multiples times the same question different way as a mean of cross reference , went thru X-ray . Ct scan etc nothing left to guess work. Unlike a lot of people babbling about Highland Hospital , my experience brain tumor surgery cancer surgery , total reconstruction of my right side ({ 11surgeries) , general care London Hospital ,Surgeries in France , Alta Bates , UCSF Based on that experience I give highland a 5 plus stars rating , althrought that stress , I did not find a place for negative review's which take me back why do you come to an hospital to begin with , I have explained my medical experience below are 3 photos to describe my experience in the ICU

Yelp
No one is trying to hang out in a hospital. It is not fun. It is not on your To Do list. A fifth floor nurse is causing additional distress. Asked her to redo the obvious error pictured. She did not wanna do it right and she did not want to do it again.Nursing manager please, Nurse Ratchet on the loose!!

Yelp
The Ultrasound department can't keep employees because their system and structure is horrible, poor communication between staff, they prioritize Outpatients over STATS and they treat their travel techs like slaves with no support from the administration.

Yelp
So this past week (Tuesday), I crashed my motorcycle and got admitted to Highland Hospital because they deal with trauma injuries. They were swift and SOO friendly. I felt very reassured despite finding out I had fractured my skull & pelvis. They had me stay overnight in a different wing. Even the staff there were sooo friendly and knowledgeable! I went home that next day, but before then they made sure I had a PT check me and gave me suggestions on how to strengthen my muscles during recovery. I definitely am so appreciative of everyone at Highland. Thank you. thank you thank you.

Yelp
Highland Hospital is an all-around crappy Hospital, the doctors don't care about their patients, I have been into the clinic for dental care 3 times, even got a dental surgery papers filled out and signed by my doctor, and they still will not treat me, even though they said if I got this paper filled out they would treat me, the ER is Even Worse, even worse they send patients home with broken Bones, Highland Hospital's doctors do not care about their patients all they care about is money. If I could give them no stars I would, never go to this hospital I would never take even my animal to this hospital again after the experiences I had here, the Hippocratic Oath says first Do no harm I will not refuse service to a patient because of race, religion, or inability to pay, but Highland Hospital does not care if you are not rich you will be treated inhumane, do not go here I would not even take my dog here.

Yelp
Bad service. I was waiting in the lobby for over 4 hours to be called back, once I did they left me alone waiting for another 2 hours without checking in on me. If you have the chance to go to another hospital I highly recommend you do so.

Yelp
This place killed my mother in law. She was diabetic, had cirrhosis, and went in for a hysterectomy. Despite that, they decided to not go an easier route, which can be done, & instead cut her open. She had cirrhosis of the liver and yet, they proceeded to giver her Tylenol. They discovered a blood clot in her liver, as well as leaking fluid, and internal bleeding, yet they proceeded to give her blood thinners, apparently to get rid of the clot, despite the internal bleeding. They apparently (whoever that was, her so called "Dr." was never seen again after cutting her open) said the leaking fluid was under control, removed her staples, and two days later she went into cardiac arrest, due to septic shock and passed away. Their negligence all around Led to her death. Expect a lawsuit.

Yelp
I think I'm too joyful for this hospital. I say Good morning to every single staff that works here & everyone looks at me like they want to die or hate their job. From the security guard to the receptionist to the medical staffs. They look like they don't wanna be there. Just be thankful you have a J O B. It was a very unpleasant experience. It's Oakland.

Yelp
Im born with a heart defect and have extensive medical history. Though this place has a bad wrap it's actually the best place to get treatment. Nurses are unbelievably kind and helpful (most of them). And the doctors are really good about listening to patients, specially those with chronic illness. I feel like they listen to what I say at each visit and go from there and respects their patients. Unlike Alta Bates where the staff are quick to judge and listen to each other's opinions vs listening to the patient (also a bit of gas lighting). The ER can get packed but they do work fast, faster than Alta Bates. And they are not bashful about doing tests and scans for diagnosis and you can be assured you'll leave feeling better and or with a game plan set up with their team and huge list of doctors from different specialties. Like kaiser but personable. Thank you nurses and appreciate the hard work you put in day in and day out. These are the names I can just remember off the top of my head Kate Josie Kennedy Britny Wish I can name them all, one of these days maybe lol
