"We love a good A-frame cabin, and this forest green three-bedroom home is no exception. Located in Twain Harte, it's one of the two homes furthest from Yosemite National Park on this list, at about an hour and a half's drive away. You won't be short on nature, though: It's 30 minutes away from Pinecrest Lake & Dodge Ridge Ski Resort and is set in the woods, with two private lakes nearby. There is Wi-Fi, but service can be spotty, so a land line is among the house's amenities, along with a Pack ’n Play, high chair, and stair gates for families traveling with young kids, an outdoor BBQ, and cooking basics from pots and pans to spices." - Madison Flager, Meredith Carey

We spent two nights here on a holiday weekend trip to Yosemite. We couldn't have stayed anywhere better. Mike is the kindest, most generous host you could imagine - and gave us brilliant tips and suggestions for our trip. The house is gorgeous and such a nice place to come back to and chill in the evenings, either in the garden with the wild turkeys and starry dark skies, or playing pool in the den. Breakfast was awesome, and on the day we needed to leave early to get to the park early, Mike set us up with food to pack a picnic for the day. Really close to Mariposa with lots of great dinner spots. We will 100% be back. Thank you Mike!

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Highland House, at the very start of May. In total we spent 3 weeks travelling round California/Nevada. The Highland House was by far, the best accommodation we stayed in, throughout the entire trip. I couldn’t have asked more from Mike as a host, he was truly fantastic. The house itself is located in picturesque woodland- I imagine this is what it’s like walking into Narnia. Mike keeps the house spotless and even has a private chef for breakfast. He went out of his way numerous times to ensure his guests were looked after. He also told me he used to be a medic- I believe this is why he’s so conscientious. ||||Thank you for a wonderful few days Mike.||Ben & Lorna

I cannot possibly tell you how amazing this place is in words. It's a must if your visiting Yosemite. We've been road tripping around California and to come here after the city tours in San Francisco etc is just amazing. ||Its a charming b&b and your made to feel at home instantly. Mike is so lovely and kind and I briefly spoke to his wife on the phone on arrival she sounds so lovely to. Penny makes breakfast each morning and it's delicious! Hot and cold options with fresh orange, coffee, tea whatever you like. ||The b&b is just beautiful from the patio outside where we sit and watch the dear and birds. To the games room where you can play pool or put on an old school movie. I just love it. |I even started teaching myself to play piano in the living room. ||The views around the house are just beautiful and there are humming birds outside that Mike cares fir and I can just watch them fir ages at the window. ||Our bed is super comfy and cosy. Waking up to birds tweeting in the morning in the woods is just out of this world. ||Cannot fault a single thing. Thank you for an amazing stay. ||It takes about 1 hour to get to the Yosemite park bit with the views it's no problem at all do easy. The Mariposa town is small but very cute.||Don't hesitate to book you'll love it! ||Thankyou highland house for making our stay on our road trip so amazing. :-)

Highland House Bed and Breakfast was absolutely amazing!!! It is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the lush greenery and mountains which added to the charm as it was nice to be away from all the hustle an bustle of the cities and really be in nature. The property was stunning and very well kept. Rooms were extremely comfortable and homely. Mike left out a lot of snacks for us for when we got back from Yosemite and the breakfast the next day was delicious. We are vegetarian and Mike and Nora catered for our dietary needs. I cannot fault this B and B in any way! I just wish I could have booked it for longer!! Will definitely be returning here on my next visit to US.

A beautiful and huge house set in the middle of the forest. Mike is an amazing host and true gentleman and will ensure you have a comfortable stay. Breakfast was great and we were able to load up with snacks from the kitchen before heading to Yosemite (about 1 hour away). Games, pool table, TV, lounge are all available and it's a nice place to relax with wild turkeys and hummingbirds all round.

This place is special. Unlike any other B&B we’ve visited, you have full access to the house, including the kitchen and even the grill outside. After a day at the park we were able to stop at the Pioneer grocery store in Mariposa - which was a pleasant surprise - and buy food to grill steak and cook sides for a dinner. Michael shows you around when you arrive and gives you access to spices, condiments, etc. in the kitchen. We cleaned up and left the place in good order so that Karen could make us a delicious breakfast feast the next morning. The entire stay was delightful. I wish we would have planned to stay here longer!

Thai is an amazing B&B the position is just so peaceful and quiet and right in the woods, with wild Turkey and hummingbirds in the grounds plus the occasional bear( didn't see one). It's about an hour or so from Yosemite but worth staying here just for the surroundings and the service you get here. Breakfast is stunning and the owner is great. He shows you round when you arrive and you can help yourself to any food from fridge and pantry and soft drinks. They have items for you to take for a picnic lunch and just everything you can think of and more. He is also very knowledgeable re area and further afield with great tips on places to eat or go to. Bedroomsl was lovely like rest of house. Wish had longer here really as can't fault it. No phone signal but WiFi is okish and free. Pool table and games are available as is owners vast array of books on local area.

Stayed at Highland Inn for 5 nights as part of a Californian Road Trip, fantastic base to explore Yosemite.||Quite the most wonderful place to stay - a little off the beaten track but so worth it. The peace and tranquility of the mountains of Sierra Nevada is quite simply breathtaking. The house itself is so welcoming and comfortable, Mike and his team are just superb - have never had Bluebery Muffins like thise baked by Nora.||Five stars does not do justice to the standards of Highland Lodge it quite simply the most wonderful B&B in the world.||Cannot wait to return
