"Highland Park Cafeteria and Crossroads Diner are two restaurant closures that really saddened me. Those were long-standing Dallas favorites that were so unique." - Amy McCarthy

"Highland Park Cafeteria, a 95-year-old dining institution in Dallas, is closing permanently. Originally opened in 1925, it had a large loyal following for its old-fashioned comfort food. The cafeteria had an atmosphere of weathered glory with portraits of every US President and First Lady on the walls and live piano performances. The final location in Casa Linda closed in 2006 but was restored and reopened in 2007 by Jeff Snoyer. Despite the closure, there is a hint of hope that the secret recipes might make a comeback in the future." - Brittanie Shey

This place is great! It's a diner cafeteria that's been elevated with really good food. The location is very clean and there so such open room and space. The staff are really awesome because of the kindness of strangers such as Cynthia! The price is reasonable and we will return once again satisfied 😀😇😎

The food was dry and not flavorful - I had to add salt. My lunch date ordered something different from what I ordered and said the same thing. The best part of my meal was my bowl of fruit - ot was fresh and ripe and the portion size was perfect. When I visited, it was noon on a Saturday. There were A LOT of older people (senior citizens). My guess is that I am probably not the demographic they cater to, solely based on the age of the customers in the restaurant during my visit, which is why they have to limit the flavoring and sodium in the recipes. Although I would not try their food again, I would most certainly go back for the deserts and the music. The staff is very friendly, dining room and women's restroom are clean and they have someone playing the piano while you eat.

My mother and I come here every few weeks. It’s always the same, good food and good service. My mother loves the live piano music, which is her favorite part of the meal. There’s plenty of parking. They apparently have large private rooms available.

Wonderful cafeteria, step up to the line and choose your meal. Many salad, entree, and side items to pick. Dont forget to stop my the deserts! The peach pie was wonderful. Staff were very nice and attentive.

We tried Highland Park Cafeteria for the first time today. It's priced similar to Luby's, and has been a Dallas institution since 1925. Glad we finally found it! I ordered the catfish, and my husband's opted for the chicken fried chicken entree. I was impressed that the chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken are cooked to order and that bumped the quality above your average cafeteria fare. The rolls far outshine the cornbread but other than that, we had no regrets about our selections. If you like buttermilk pie, theirs isn't too sweet unlike most places.

Expensive, food is mediocre at best. I ordered the chicken fried chicken and it was about as thick as a fork or ten sheets of paper. (See picture attached) Definitely not a do over. I got two chicken legs, they were cold and grainy for a total of $2.99 each! My wife got the mac and cheese and she couldn't get more than three bites due to the flavor. I don't recommend this place at all.

This place is a must. From the cashier Denise, to our server Andrea. This was an awesome family dining experience. The food tasted like home. The pricing was within our budget and the accommodations we're sanitary.
