1st visit:
I ordered the Bombshell Sandwich (featured on DDD) with onion rings, and the Tavern Tots (another DDD pick) for an appetizer.
Starting with the star of my meal, the Bombshell Sandwich, I found everything on it blended perfectly, leaving me wanting more. I have nothing bad to say about this sandwich.
The tater tots were big and crispy, though I wish they had added some seasoned salt. The onion rings appeared to be sourced from a local food company, but the breading was seasoned really well and nice and crispy. I would order them again.
The Highland Tavern's award-winning Bloody Mary didn't quite meet my expectations. It tasted a bit watered down, as if they needed to add more mixer to the drink. Overall, it was okay, but I did like the addition of the pepperoncini.
My 2nd visit:
I made it back for a second visit and ended up ordering the same thing again. The sandwich was good, but I remembered it tasting better on my first visit. To my surprise, the onion rings looked like they were made in-house this time! They came out hot and crispy, with good-tasting breading, though there was a lot of it. I ended up removing most of it. They only use one strand of onion per ring, so you mostly taste the breading. If they used two or three strands of onion, I think it would taste better.
