I visited for a birthday lunch with my adult children. I had blue corn tacos. The filling was good, but the shell was too delicate for the filling. The tacos fell apart. My kids said their food and drinks were "tasty". We ordered a Creme brulee for dessert. It was good. For some reason, they topped it with powdered sugar. It covered the beautiful, carmalized crust and was completely unnecessary. We sat on the outdoor patio - it feels like typical sidewalk seating - Metal tables and chairs and some patio umbrellas. The food was good. The drinks were good. The service was good. We'll go back.

Google
True seafood restaurant with hits and misses. Loved the beer-batter onion rings! So fresh and flavorful. I loved the beignets but some at the table thought it needed powdered sugar. The fried fish was also good but more par for the course. The decor has all the charm of a bachelor-decorated warehouse. But the biggest miss was that they were out of clam chowder at lunch. How does that even happen?!

Google
Popped in after a visit to the Ballard Locks and this place was a great find. Stopped in for cold beer and hot seafood - delivered on both accounts! Personally, big kudos for the sour on tap and the fish and chips - they were some of the best I’ve had in the area. All of it was made better with outdoor seating and string lights with the ambience of the docks right around the corner. Overall, big fan if you’re nearby.

Update: July 2024 Food is still solid and we had a great meal. 👌 The server even brought our pup a bowl of ice water. Thank you! We've been coming down to Fishermans Terminal almost daily with my recently boat-obsessed 1.5 year old daughter. Normally we will grab something from the window at Chinook (which is...meh), we had no idea there was this little gem of a restaurant tucked around the corner! I'm sad we only discovered it today! First and foremost, for a pub, we were pleasantly surprised by how kid-friendly they are. The server immediately brought a high chair, crayons, and a clipboard with a picture of the terminal for her to color. She also brought our dog a water dish (thank you!). There is a kids menu and we ordered the cheeseburger and fries for our little one. Most restaurants that have a kids menu usually just serve smaller portions of the same "adult" food. This was not the case here. We tasted her food and it was actually prepared how we would prefer for our toddler, with less/no salt! Her burger was delicious and her fries were seasoned with some parmesan cheese. This makes eating out so much less stressful for us parents...when our toddler enjoys her meal, we get to enjoy ours as well. My husband ordered the Alaskan Cod and Chips. The fish was perfectly cooked, super moist inside and crispy on the outside. The fries, which are often overlooked, we're super crispy, and seasoned with salt, herbs and parmesan. I had the Tiger Prawn Po' Boy and the shrimp was also perfectly cooked, super juicy and crispy as well. The sandwich was so balanced and probably one of the best sandwiches I've had in a very long time. We will definitely be back, likely tomorrow if my daughter decides she wants to see boats again. 😅 We had a great experience.

Google
Really delicious food made fresh to order and arrived at our table in less than 10 minutes. We ordered the calamari steak sandwich and the steakhouse burger with a Beyond Meat patty and both were absolutely incredible. The calamari was thick, tender, moist, and perfectly fried. The steakhouse burger was stacked! (See picture.) The blue cheese that they used was a strong, high quality cheese. It was so good! The service was friendly, efficient, and quick. For those that drink, they offer a large variety of beers and ciders. And for those that don't drink alcohol, they actually have non-alcoholic beers. It's not listed on the menu so ask the server what NA beer is available if you are interested. We can't wait to go back.

Google
I hated to get a burger at a place known for seafood, but that's what I was hungry for and I was not disappointed. Excellent burger from the meat to the bun to the cheddar to the onion, taomatoe, and lettuce. Fries were average to above average, but with a burger that good, I didn't mind. A bit more towards the shoestring end of the fries spectrum than I prefer, but there were lots of them and the burger sauce I asked to be on the side was a great dipping sauce. The service was very attentive. I'll have to come back and get fish and chips or one of their seafood dishes.

Google
It was quick lunch after a walk at Discovery park. I ordered a cup of clam chowders, it was ok. It was not the best or the worst. The clams were big pieces, I want it to be little thicker. My friends said her laser clams were not good, the salmon sandwich and Thai chili burger were good. They were thin on servers. The server just came to get plates and did not refill the water once. I am not sure if I would come back.

Google
Hands down the best fish and chips I've ever had. Most fish just have their tasteless beer battered fish, but these guys SEASON it. It's almost a taco-like seasoning but it actually works great on fish. Usually the fries with any fish and chips are just there, but these fries also had the same seasoning. This place is right next to Chinooks (which is more popular) but Highliner is cheaper and better and it is a must try. (The tartar sauce and ranch is amazing)

Yelp
This place was really cozy! First I'd like to recognize the ONLY two servers/ bar tenders in the entire establishment (Kristin and the guy). They worked so well together in the busy restaurant. The Male server made a wonderful first impression, He took the group order without writing it down and got it correct! Thank you to the chef for getting the food out quick! We each ate the claim chowder- the Best! I had the Cod Nachos- really salty Fried Pickles were also ordered- pretty decent. I recommend going to the restaurant when you want a good quick bite to eat!

Yelp
Fisherman terminal mainstay and local fav. Clam chowder was very good, but as good as chinooks. Great place to eat. Good people food, and beer selection.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this spot, unfortunately it missed the mark for us. Service was not great and some of the food was under seasoned. I felt like I was annoying the staff every time I asked for something or even ordered given their body language and tone. An entree order was not communicated from one server to the next so one person didn't even get to eat a meal. No real apology, or attempt to make up for the missed order. Just kind of said, we can put it in if you want to wait. No thank you... Clam chowder: under seasoned and only tasted like cream. Had to add pepper, salt, and Tabasco for some flavor Salmon chowder: best dish we had. Full of flavor, salmon was delicious, and the tomatoes added nice acidity and savory to the soup Curry mussels: also lacked flavor, didn't have enough curry or saltiness to this dish. Mussel quality was great Cod salad: my friend said the dish was cooked well and plentiful greens, they enjoyed the Bleu cheese dressing Overall, would not come back for the poor service and foods that vary in seasoning

Yelp
Great service, drink selection was great, and the food was yummy! We have a toddler and it was super kid friendly which is perfect. It's surrounded by boats in the marina so it's a fun spot to see before or after dining. Love this spot!!

Yelp
Awful fish and chips worst place I can remember Came scorched outside thick Batter raw on the inside , not much fish about the size of a shrimp Over priced Surly waiter Extra charge for paying with a credit card Sad to try a new place that sucked

Yelp
The service was good but the food was ok. It wasn't bad but just average. The $17 burger tasted like a cooked processed frozen beef patty, not what I would expect for the price. The bun was good though. It had been a decade since my last visit here and I had higher hopes based on previous visits. It's a nice location with a dog friendly little outdoor area, maybe a good spot for grabbing a beer after a hike in Discovery Park.

Yelp
Service was quick, but curt. Is that really the vibe here? This Chinook marketplace is quintessential boomer Seattle, so I wonder if we generationally missed the threshold? Enough beers on tap to ensure PNWers are happy and enough local bottles to make the rest of us (who dont like IPAs) happy. Not sure sure I would venture out this way to visit, but this place was good for a post dinner beer.

Yelp
Delish shrimp tacos and fresh Coleslaw with cilantro, YUMM! Friendly and fast service along with a relaxed ambiance.

Yelp
The food was okay. I had the Steakhouse Burger. My only complaint was my fries were cold. We were four. Nobody else had a complaint food wise. It's good to get a char broil burger too. Service was great. They were good at clearing dishes which made me very happy. Attentive and professional. The setting at Fisherman's Terminal on the water is the best. Ambiance is a neighborhood cozy place. I'm going back.

Yelp
Came here on a whim after going to Discovery Park. I would say in a nutshell, this is a decent place to go to for food and hangout at. Nothing blew me away but it's perfect for casual dining in a bright space. We ordered the onion rings, oyster shot, wild salmon & chips, salmon sandwich (which was more like a burger), and salmon chowder (not pictured). Per the menu description I thought the onion rings were gonna be panko breaded, which I prefer, so that was a bit of a disappointment. It's served with chipotle bbq and fry sauce mixed together. I won't say if THEIR oyster shot is good because this was my first time having one, but in general I don't think I like oyster shots. The salmon sandwich I think was the best and my favorite, though I only got a bite because it was my friend's order. The bun was toasted but still soft and the flavors were fresh and light. Served with seasoned fries The salmon from the salmon & chips was decent but very oily. I think they use old oil to fry as well due to the coloring of the fried salmon (same with the onion rings). In the picture there's only 2 pieces of salmon when there should be 3, which the waiter recognized when he brought the food out and later returned with a small plate of 2 more salmon (so we got an extra piece!). Served with seasoned fries, tartar sauce, carrots, and celery. We also ordered the salmon chowder. We didn't read the description when ordering and expected it to be like clam chowder but salmon instead (totally our fault). I ate it anyway and thought it tasted like chili. Not what I was expecting but I did like it. Came with little oyster crackers. The fries that came with the burger and fish & chips I did not like. It was seasoned with some sort of seasoning I can't identify but have definitely had before (maybe Red Robin???) and was way too salty to eat more than a couple at a time. I wish it came without the seasoning and was thicker in size instead of being like McDonald's fries. Additionally, the missing piece of salmon the waiter brought out for me later during the meal had bones in it. I'm no stranger to eating fish with bones but I found it peculiar and unpleasant to find that in fish & chips as I don't believe that's routine. The bones weren't even small or soft enough to swallow so you couldn't ignore it either Wasn't spectacular and I wouldn't return, but definitely could be worse. A real solid 3/5.

Yelp
I eat here every week. Food and service is always good. My fav menu item is the fish tacos, which is what I always order. Other items I've tried that are good are the burger and fried pickles. Easy parking, never too busy, and great food and service, highly recommend. I'm always shocked that it's not more busy given I live in downtown Seattle and this is the only restaurant I eat at on a regular basis (ie the fish tacos are that good).

Yelp
My husband and I had such a wonderful anniversary at The Highlander, we decided to have dinner there on my birthday. It was fresh and delicious. Kristen and Burt went above and beyond for us. Kudos to the chef as well...and thank you Burt for not chasing us out at closing time!

Yelp
I can't believe we've lived in the area for years and never stopped in. What a cool (almost) hidden gem at Fisherman's Wharf. My partner and I met friends (with kids, so they are welcome too) here for beers and snacks. The appetizers were all delicious but we yearned to have more. We hadn't planned on dinner so we only had beers (Reubens and a nice dark draft) and apps. Staff were nice and efficient and it's a great atmosphere to watch some sports or just chill and have some snacks. There is an outdoor patio and plenty of place to sit near the windows, gazing at the wharf beyond.

Yelp
Food quality has gone down. Highliner was my go-to place for Fish and Chips but the last time I went it was like a piece of cardboard.

Yelp
On a rainy day after buying some tuna from St. Jude I thought I would stop in here for lunch. It had great reviews, it was within walking distance, and it looked inviting. I can't say I was overly impressed. When my friend and I entered I immediately noticed all the social distancing stickers and signage. Nice! Masks are required upon entering. Good, good. But there were no signs saying "Seat Yourself" or anything like that so when we stood idle for a few seconds a woman waved around the area and told us to sit "wherever". And that basically was the tone of the entire meal from our waitress as well. I got the distinct impression she wasn't having a great day - she was minimally engaged and seemed mostly checked out. I pulled up the menu with the QR code as well as glanced over the paper menu. I ordered a cherry sour cider and the cod tacos. The cod tacos looked amazing! There was an incredible amount of food that was crammed in there. No amount of cod was spared. But here's my problem - their menu descriptions were not all inclusive. I don't necessarily need every detail but please at a minimum list foods that fall in the 8 major allergens. This did not. It was my fault for not bringing it up but I figured tacos are a safe dish provided that the fish isn't breaded. The cheese should have been the first clue to me because one, it wasn't listed, and two, it isn't a common ingredient in fish tacos. Neither is chipotle aioli and there it was. Again, it was my fault for not addressing it but I was also disappointed that for as much detail as the menu had that it didn't highlight the major allergens. It was a nice location and very clean, just not some place I will likely return.

A H.

Yelp
I got the fish and chips and we shared the ceviche. Really "meh" all around. The food wasn't bad, but I wouldn't describe it as good either. I think the price point is far too expensive for what you get.

Yelp
Loud, hard to talk, hard to hear, not the kind of place you want to have a nice conversation with a friend. No one came up to seat us so we just sat down at an empty table. It took awhile for someone to finally come take our order. I had to ask for the Happy Hour menu otherwise it appeared that they wanted us to order from the regular menu. We each ordered a Pinot Gris which was lovely, light, and refreshing. I liked that we were each given a small carafe so we were able to pour the amount needed without having to overfill our glasses. Our food came. I ordered the hummus and calamari. Hummus was not as creamy as I like. It could have also used more tahini. However it was served with pita, carrots, celery, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives. The calamari was fried, maybe a bit too long, but the aoli made up for the well done, extra crispness. It was also served with carrots, celery, cucumbers, and tomato. My friend ordered the chicken wings. She said they were hard. Apparently overcooked. This was also served with carrots, celery, cucumbers and tomato. I think had the place been quieter I would have given another star.

Yelp
We are staying in Seattle for the week from Ventura Ca and I noticed this place had a lot of reviews from locals who were happy they were open again so we had to try it! What AMAZING FRESH seafood!!! I got fried clams and they were the size of my husbands hand and so fresh! Hubby got fish and onion rings which he loved! Our appetizer was calamari which was very lightly breaded and super tender! If you want great fresh seafood then this is the place! Bonus, they have local craft beer on tap!!!

Yelp
Didn't even know this spot was here! Good service, good food, expected pub atmosphere conveniently located close to the originally-planned restaurant that didn't open until Noon. Had a lunch meeting set for 11:15. Prices were a little steep for what you get ($18-20 for a burger and fries). Based on pricing, Highliner positions more as a now-and-then option for me vs regular go-to, but nothing negative outside of pricing. Overall execution was excellent.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I liked this spot for dinner. We started off with the clams which were delicious and had a nice lemon-y broth. I had the fish tacos for dinner which were pretty good, lots of cod in the tacos. I sampled the fish and chips which were also tasty. Overall it was a good stop for dinner.

Yelp
wow, I did not have high expectations for this place, jjust because it was a s public house, and because I am a GF pescatarian, its usually hard to find something I am going to like. I was glown away with how good it was. We started with the fried pickles, while not the best I ahve ever had (Holloywood Tavern!!!) they were very good. I am a sucker for a good fish taco, and these did not disappoint. The fish tasted really fresh. My friend had the chicken sandwich which she enjoyed as well. She is a regular, so already knew she would love it. We sat on the patio as it was during COVID. There were a decent amountof table under the ocvered patio. But do not expect the restroom to be open to you at this time. Will fore sure return.

Vivian M.

Yelp
It was fine for lunch. The food was average, so not great, but not bad, & prices as you would expect these days which is higher than the "before times". (Covid). The service was pretty good too. My overall complaint is paying a 2.9% transaction fee, even though I used a debit card. In general, I'm becoming quite weary of all the added fees to a simple lunch or dinner order. I'd love for restaurants to just wrap it all into one price so I know what I'm in for and don't feel nickel and dimed when the final bill hits the table. It's just frustrating and discourages future visits.
google avatar

Yelp
Food and service were very good. I had excellent fish tacos and my wife a Caesar with chicken, which came with dressing on the side as requested. My only complaint was the restaurant was cold inside and they don't have control of the thermostat.
google avatar

Yelp
Casual little restaurant with friendly staff! A local's favorite! Not many Gluten Free options and the plank salmon iS only available at certain times as a special

Yelp
Ballard's Old Town Alehouse is a fond memory now, but the owner brought back its same friendly service and great menu items in the Highliner Public House. Indoor and outdoor seating are both comfortable, and I've been served in both areas several times, although I prefer the bar to avoid rugrats. The pub-style food is well-presented, tasty, and portions are fair for the prices. I had the fish tacos and corn chips on my last visit, but my normal choice would be codfish & chips or steamed clams. There's a great selection of beer, wine, and cider. The Highliner is highly recommended for quality, price and service. There's free parking out in front, and you'll find a spot even on busier weekends. Go try it out.

Alex O.

Yelp
Came in for lunch and the service was pretty good...they were busy and I felt the restaurant was understaffed. Living in Seattle, I have learned to expect that as an ongoing issue. Food was expensive for the quality and I needed to flag a staff member to get our food which was sitting under the ready window. The biggest issue was the credit card surcharge. The mention of this is in very small font hidden on the bottom of the menu. Good news is they didn't attempt to charge too much but still... If as a restaurant you are charging $18 for a burger then you are trying to sneak in an additional 3% at the end of service that is unacceptable. Be more upfront on the charge if you really feel that the fraud/theft avoidance and higher ticket size is not worth your credit card fees.

Yelp
We visited from San Diego, CA and picked this place coz we thought they will have fresh oysters for happy hour. We were very disappointed when the waitres told us that they don't have happy hour menu and that they only have their beers $1 off for happy hour. We were set that we just wanted to devour trays and trays of fresh oysters but that definitely didn't happen. We ended up ordering their fried calamari and 3 oyster shooters just to try. Their fried calamari was pretty good! It was lightly breaded and fried to crisp! It wasnt chewy or fishy! The sauce they served it with complemented the calamari very well! I would definitely recommend it. The oyster shooter was about $3 and very big. It's definitely not a one "shot" oyster. The one I got were 2 small ones though which was the perfect size, but my bf and my friend got a very big piece. My bf didn't even wanna try it at all. Lol Parking: they have plenty of parking in front. We didn't have any issues finding a spot Seating: they have seating outdoors as well.

Yelp
This hidden gem may be my favorite spot in Seattle. I was able to get back for the first time in months (covid shutdown) to have lunch there last week and was personally welcomed back by the staff and the owner John. Every time I have been here over the past several years they have done the same thing. There is something to be said for that type of welcoming experience that other restaurants can't say they have. As far as the food, I've never ordered anything I didn't like. And they always have rotating local taps so the beer is great and new all the time. I'm not even a big seafood fan but this is very much a seafood oriented menu as they cater to fisherman and the folks that work near there on the docks and boats. Their hamburger is second to none! Do yourself a favor and enjoy the hospitality and the great food that Highliner has to offer. You will not have a bad experience.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Please fix your phone or disconnect your number. The voicemail says call back reach a server to place a to-go order. I called 15 times with no answer. When I arrived to order, I learned the phone doesn't ring properly. Either fix it or save yourself a few bucks per month and get rid of it.

Yelp
This is a lovely spot down by Fisherman's Wharf across the Ballard Bridge. I took the ol' ball and chain here for lunch on a Saturday. We sat on the patio on a nice afternoon weather-wise. I had the Spicy Guacamole Burger. They actually brought me the wrong burger, the Steakhouse Burger, at first. I even had a bite. It was good too! Bottom line, nice place with good food and beer. Go try it!

Yelp
OK, I left a one-star review a couple weeks ago. Since the manager reached out, I'm giving them another chance. So far, drinks are almost gone...no appetizer yet. She just asked if we wanted another drink...Fish nachos barely warm, delicious, but, clumped together coldish. I do worry...fish at way less than 140 -160 degrees...love the barren chips in the middle. Starving now so I'm eating them! Food finally arrived. The rueben sandwich special is hot and very good. Floppy presentation and bread is well, could be a lot darker and richer..corporate portions. Pickles are sad, way salty, not good, vinegar- ry, sniffling in shame from the gourmet crisps out of the 5-gallon bucket they once were. Now the long wait, while we finish our drinks, to see if they're going to offer us dessert or just dump a bill on us.0 One girl is doing bar drinks, and the other one has 7 tables, (outside) which includes two four- tops. Heaven knows how many inside... Still sitting here unattended. Just like last time. Might as well just say fkt and leave. Hey manager...I'll spend my money where I'm happy. This is shameful and insulting. .wow, still waiting. I'll just get the bill now and leave. I don't recommend this place on the service alone..that's twice now.

William M.

Yelp
The service was quick and friendly. The food was very good! This is a great spot away from the tourists and congestion. The parking was readily available. We'll be back!!

Yelp
I love finding new restaurants to try in Magnolia! I live in the neighborhood and always feel like I have to venture out to Ballard or Queen Anne for something good. I am excited I came across this place and like them! The first time I came, it was for dinner with a gf and we ordered off the regular menu. I came here again last night with Cody, and got the special taco Tuesday deal, and we enjoyed ourselves. I have ordered: - fried pickles - fish and chips - cod fish tacos (Taco Tuesday $3/each) - 1/2 order of chicken nachos ($9) $3 fish tacos are a great deal I thought! The tacos themselves though were just ok, needed a lil more flavor. Maybe some Cajun seasoning? I really enjoyed the fried pickles and fish & chips the first time I went though! The nachos were ok too. Their tortilla chips have a good seasoning on them though! Overall, I like this spot, it's close to home, and hasn't been too crowded the times I have been.
google avatar

Brendetta G.

Yelp
The Blackened Fish Tacos were amazing. They call them street tacos but they were full sized and full flavored. They add a bit of spice to their fries so if you don't like heat just substitute the tortilla chips! All delicious!

Jennie K.

Yelp
After a quick day hike, my friend and I decided to stop by here to reward ourselves with some good food and beer. There is plenty of parking available in the lot and the pub itself wasn't too busy on a Sunday morning, so we didn't have to wait very long. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. As for the food, it was delicious! I got a burger that I built with ingredients of my own likings - pepper jack cheese, roasted jalapeños, and bacon. The burger came with delicious shoestring fries that was topped with dry Parmesan. I washed the food down a coconut nitro stout, which was pretty good as well.

Yelp
I've done the Highliner before but only for burgers. This time we needed a quick drink and a nibble. Ordered a beer and a wine and opted to try the wings. When they arrived, the top two were really juicy and flavorful, but the bottom three in the bowl were... well, dry and somewhat shredded looking. They weren't nearly as good as the first two. We mentioned it to our waiter and he agreed they didn't look all that appealing and he would talk to his 'boys' in the kitchen about it. Five min later, he came back with a bowl with three more wonderful looking wings! He apologized fir the first round and hoped these were better. They were. At first I would have given Highliner three stars but added the fourth for customer service. Thanks for making it good on the wings!

Yelp
Loved happening upon this place after a long hike at Discovery Park. Highly recommend the salmon chowder! Many GF options too for our son. Beer drinkers will be happy with their selection. We did not opt for a mid-day ale.

Yelp
If I could give negative stars, I would. We've eaten here at least 10x times in the past with our very picky 6 yr old son, for whom we bring outside food that he'll eat. This time, while my wife was drinking a glass of wine we had ordered and I was getting ready to order $80+ worth of food, we were told that my sons food was absolutely not allowed, called liars about our past experience and was kicked out of the restaurant under the guise of "health code.". As an interracial couple, I believe we were discriminated against by the staff. Do NOT give these people your money, go to Chinooks, which is far better anyway.

Jody J.

Yelp
Delicious food. Great service! Our table had the Alaskan prawns and chips and the cod and chips with a side of slaw and they said the batter was light and airy. The cod was mellow and not seasoned strongly. The spicy cod Cobb salad was wonderful and seasoned well, she loves the spice, so it was good. I had the mixed seafood ceviche and it was delicious. I had been wanting wanting some for our whole cruise and FINALLY, I was able to get one and it was great. I could have made it more spicy but I didn't want that. The beignets had mixed reviews from our table. Wine was good. We liked the cab proletariat wine from walla walla the best. Boys said the beer was good too, and they liked the choices offered! Enjoy! We did!

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner after an afternoon at the Ballard Locks. Great, fresh seafood, attentive servers, large space that's good for groups and families. Nice kids menu and lots of parking. We plan to return.

Yelp
I like the Highliner for how it totally fits Fisherman's Terminal. Back in the day (not too long ago) there were a lot more fisherman at Fisherman's Terminal and the Highliner catered to them. Cheap beer, lots of beer, loud music, not many chairs, and a pool table. It was a stinky good time. Fisherman's Terminal is a lovely place to take the family now. The Highliner has evolved to have a menu full of good food. Really, you can't miss. Very reliable. The servers are very welcoming. I take my folks when they're visiting now.

Yelp
A little on the pricier side but delicious food. If they brought the happy hour food menu back I'd visit a lot more. Friendly and helpful staff.

Yelp
I wanted to update my review after going back to Highliner a few more times. The food and drinks have been consistently good, and the staff is always very welcoming and friendly. I am now a diehard fan of their fried smelt appetizer. God, even typing that makes my mouth start watering... I'm a big clam chowder critic, and I'm happy to say that their's was pretty good. I've tried a few of their other dishes and they've always been tasty. Awesome fries. Also, I'm happy to say that their onion ring batter has become lighter (less hard and thick) than the first time I went. Now they are EXCELLENT onion rings. Bravo, Highliner!

Yelp
I used to love this place. For the third time in the last 3 months, we have had horrendous experiences at the Highliner. Don't know why we kept giving them more chances, but I suppose we had hoped things would improve and we wanted to support a local establishment. Tonight's experience was the last straw, though. We arrived at 6:15 and had a party of 4 adults and 3 kids. The place had 3 other tables of customers and 3 servers-- far from busy. Our server was surly and rude, at best. He seemed pissed that we were ordering appetizers ahead of meals. The calamari was crispy, but totally bland. We ordered at 6:40pm-- nothing complex, just fish and chips, kid burger, and sandwiches. By 7:20pm, no food had come. The surly guy server made no visits to the table to give an update or take any responsibility. Not even an offer to refill drinks. We finally got up to go ask for an update. He shrugged his shoulders and said the food would come soon. We waited close to an hour for what ended up as greasy, flavorless and lukewarm food. The waiter stood at the register with his buddy and literally picked his nose. So, it was not as if they were so slammed that they were trying hard to provide customer service. The reality is that he and the other servers did not care at all, and clearly the owner does not care if he keeps this lot on staff. We were willing to chalk up the perpetually sticky floor and chairs to "pub charm". However, the insanely rude, disrespectful, and unaccountable servers combined with bland, greasy and mediocre food has forever crossed this once great place off our list (and our list of recommendations to our entire neighborhood.) Sorry to see it go down the drain.

Yelp
Highliner was a decent stop to eat at Fisherman's Terminal. We stopped in for an early dinner. Some great happy hour deals included fried oysters ($6), bowl of chowder ($6), and $1 off craft beer drafts. We started with some fried oysters crusted in cornmeal. We got 4 large, plump oysters that tasted great. For main, I had a bowl of chowder and the wife had the seafood pot pie. The seafood pot pie was a disappointment. Half the plate was salad, while the other half was a big pastry puff with a little bit of seafood filling on top. For $20, you would have expected more substantial fare. My chowder was a better value but was average. I would have liked a little more flavor and more "chunky" to it. The restaurant was clean with a rustic woody feel to it. Service was friendly. Nice place with decent food, but overpriced. Happy hour might be a good deal for a light snack.

Yelp
Nice casual lunch in a clean friendly atmosphere. We dined inside yet they offer some outdoor seating too. Good selection of Pub food.

Yelp
We've been coming here for years, the food quality has gone downhill. The service has as well. Forgot my drink and then tried to charge me for it. This place is sadly past it's prime. The outdoor furniture needs to be cleaned too!

Yelp
My friends and I stopped by for lunch before heading to a nearby brewery. It was pretty open but it took a while for someone to acknowledge that we had walked in the door. Eventually, we were seated outside and orders were taken promptly. They had a good selection of beers and ciders and the food menu was expansive. My friends and I ordered the Peruvian ceviche to start (flavorful and acidic). To eat, I ordered the clam strips & fries, while my friends ordered the salmon & fries and oysters & fries. My clam strips were large -- better clam to batter ratio than most places -- and the oysters were also pump and delicious. You really can't complain about a plate of fries and they were perfect and hearty enough to stand up to the rest of the fried foods. I wouldn't make my way out here to eat, but it's definitely a good spot if you're in the area.
