The Best Restaurants Along California’s Central Coast, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"LA’s Highly Likely took over Ojai’s former Beacon Coffee Company and converted it into an all-day restaurant in May 2025. Expect favorites on the menu like breakfast sandwiches, chilaquiles, salads, tuna melts, and seasonal soups from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. At night, it’ll flip into a low-lit space for dinner and cocktails from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., except Tuesdays. Eventually, service will be seven days a week. Highly Likely also serves Midwest comforts from chef Kat Turner’s childhood, including fettuccine Alfredo, fried chicken schnitzel, and steak au poivre." - Mona Holmes

Amazing food and service! The butternut dip was incredible, the perfect amount of sweetness with crispy chips, highly recommend ordering! Also ordered the veggie pasta and added chicken, super delicious. For dessert I had the bread pudding with tahini sauce, the perfect combination for something not too sweet. Highly recommend checking out this new place, staff were kind and food was fabulous!

My daughter was the sweetest and she took me and her brother to dinner. We were seated outside, beside the sun(darn u sun) it was beautiful, the huge tree in the center made it even better..the server was kind. The food was yummy. Especially the apps. We had the harissa carrots oh my lord those were so good, in sauce..youll love it, if u like carrots and some spice..the artichoke arugula dip with the chips, oh boy. That was amazing, it almost had a meaty texture. So good. And mix alittle with the sauce of the harissa. WOW.. My daughter got the seedy schnitzel, it looks heavy but its very light indeed. She ordered a side a fries with that. My son decided on just the shrimp cocktail and buttered noodles. And i ordered the steak frites au poivre. It came with a side of fries..it was ok. Definitely order the Crimson Crush, its nice and refreshing. I highly likely recommend it😊

If you're like us and you seek out a special avocado toast for breakfast, reward yourself with something different and savor the Maitake Tahini Toast, and add avocado . The combination of roasted mushrooms, earthy tahini, and bub and grandmas sourdough make for a rich journey of the senses. Pair it with an iced matcha, which gets an honorable mention. The farro salad with sheep's cheese olives radicchio and dates was scrumptious, sweet and savory. And now, the main attraction, the black sesame waffle with fried chicken and hot honey . Praise to the culinary genius who was thought to mix black sesames in a fluffy buttery waffle, but the combination of miso butter , hot honey, and maple syrup makes for a slathery sensation that transports the taster to a faraway fantasy land. This is the first meal we’ve had in a while where the conversation focused solely on the pleasure and complexity of each bite. Shout out to Christina who held our hand and made us laugh through the whole experience. Honestly, when the apocalypse finally happens, it's highly likely we will shelter here, lock the doors with likeminded hedonists, and savor the ecstasy of each dish as the world goes to hell in a hand basket. *UPDATE* Thankfully the world hasn’t ended yet, so we came back a second day in a row 🤗

My friends and I stopped in here to grab some cocktails and they were delicious! Tyler, our bartender, was very friendly and had some great drink recommendations. The atmosphere was beautiful. We will definitely be coming back.

Google
Food: I ordered the Pibil bowl. Nice presentation, flavor, and texture with the crispy tortilla, fried egg, and sauce. The dish would feel more complete if they included some bread/carb to make it more filling and soak up the sauce. The dish could also use more salt to bring out the flavors fully. Atmosphere: Contemporary, minimalist, and chill vibe. Tasteful decoration and music.

Came in with some friends just for drinks and our bartender Tyler made it an incredible experience! The drinks from the menu were all delicious and Tyler even helped us tweak them to meet our preferences. He gave us samplers of new drinks he was testing out as well. We all loved the atmosphere of the restaurant and want to go back to try the food menu.

We've been here four times now, and today was our first time sampling the lunch menu. The service is excellent and the food is truly fantastic. Every dish is a winner and consistently inventive and unique. One of us is vegan and gluten-free and they are super accommodating to our tricky dietary restrictions. This is definitely our new favorite spot in Ojai.

I had such an amazing time visiting here. This place was recommended from a friend of mine while I was in vacation in LA. I brought all my friends here and we had a phenomenal time talking with the bartender Tyler. We didn’t care for any cocktails on the menu but we told him what we liked and wanted and he exceeded our expectations. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
My friend, who is from Ojai, took me to this restaurant and I loved it. First, lovely ambiance. The service was good and friendly. They have outdoor seating Suitable for couples, families, and groups of friends. At the first visit, I ordered a Lavender Honey Latte. I ordered an Iced latte, but they gave me a hot one. I didn't mind, so I had it, but they gave me an iced one later when they noticed it. The second time, I ordered a Good Turkey Sando, which was delicious. The pickles on the side reminded me of Japanese pickles. I could taste the good quality of all the materials. Please note that they only accept card payments. I didn't mind it because I always pay with a credit card. . This restaurant is conveniently located near the Westridge Midtown Market, allowing you to stop by after your grocery shopping. Parking is in front of the restaurant.

Yelp
So, we finally made it here. We waited a bit because our daughter and some of her friends went here pretty soon after opening and they said that there were still some kinks that needed to be worked out. The kinks have still not been worked out. Our server got our drink order, asked if we were ready to order food (we were not) and then forgot about us. I had to call him over (20 minutes later) and remind him that we had not ordered. I got the Mediterranean eggs and my husband got the fish and chips. I'm a salt lover, but the Mediterranean eggs were salty even for me. The fish and chips were acceptable. The crust on the fish was great, but the fish was dry. And the chips were cold. We will definitely try this restaurant again, but there are major improvements that need to take place

Yelp
The service was super friendly and attentive. We walked in on a busy Sunday midday and the host made use a reservation for 15 min later. The wait staff were super upbeat and helpful. We had a matcha lemonade with coconut cold foam- unique and delicious! I had the hippy Crunchwrap- the crispy rice was great, and the broccoli and carrots were crunchy - I didn't notice any avocado in my wrap(which was disappointing) and it could have had more tahini and more chili crunch - but overall it was tasty. My friend had the kale salad with fried chicken added--she said it was fantastic especially the chicken. I was really impressed with the staff and Love the changes made to restaurant- the outdoor space looks amazing! The coffee drinks and the cocktails looked amazing- Will have to try them next time!

Yelp
Order before you grab a seat. The cashier was helpful and offered recommendations from their unique take on classic brunch food. Recommend the Chilaquiles, breakfast sandwich and passionfruit Matcha. The Kyoto bowl was very salty, I would not get it again. Beyond that dish, my next trip to Ojai, I would come again!

Yelp
Such a cute and comfortable cafe! They have a good sized parking lot with indoor and outdoor seating, a bar and nice cushy booths. The style of this place is so chic and modern. They have a good range of food to choose from. Sandwiches and bowls and breakfast and classics like fish and chips and chicken fingers. I really loved my chicken! That's the god tier of chicken breading, very crispy with juicy insides. Comes with 3 sauces!!!! Sauces are the way to my heart and Kat got me. Hot honey is in right now and it was perfectly sweet and spicy. The yizu aioli was bright and creamy and the classic ketchup too! I had plenty of dip for all my needs! If i lived near this place, I'd be here every week, but i was visiting a friend in the area. She'll be back. She got a bowl and thought it was good but too soupy and not like a dry rice The service was friendly and the line moves pretty quickly. When i was waiting for my food, kat, who was on top chef most recently can't by to check on me and handled it like a pro. It was such a comfy place to have a good lunch.

Yelp
Steak : pretty good, cooked really well but not the biggest fan of the sauce but that is just personal preference Big Bean Appetizer : pretty good but wouldn't order again, a bit too lemony, bread that came with it was pretty good Endives Caesar : okay, wouldn't get again Overall the quality of the food was there, the flavor was okay but I was underwhelmed Will try the breakfast and lunch before writing this place off but won't be back for dinner

Yelp
The food is great. The salads are definitely the best bang for your buck! Such a fun and hip atmosphere as well.

Yelp
I tried to walk in and was asked if we had reservations, which we did not but as local people we wanted to check it out since it's a new place in our town. We walked around and there were about 10 tables open, but we were still told we needed to have reservations. I understand that Ojai is a tourist area, unfortunately, but with 10 tables open and not being able to sit down is insane. Definitely don't think I'll be back

Yelp
Holy universe they did a great job with this place. The outdoor seating has a ton of shade under a spectacular Chinese Elm. Smiski liked the menu. Lots of vegan options. The vegan Caesar was awesome. I would not get the falafel again (it's yellow inside, not green). Of the things my companions tried, the spicy grilled cheese was voted best. The passion fruit matcha drink is odd (the cold cream is vegan). Highly recommended. It's easy to eat here 2 days in a row.

Yelp
Interesting place, seems like they are trying to "fit in" to ojai and mainly serving trendy, unique menu items and throwing their spin on versions of common cocktails. Not my cup of tea personally but i could see why tourists like it. I think they still need some fine tuning.

Yelp
Service was friendly food was outstanding, Chilaquiles with perfectly cook sunny side up eggs!

Yelp
Food was amazing and the spicy Bloody Mary was delicious. Matt the bar manager made the experience even better! So friendly and gave us some great hiking recommendations!! Thank you Matt!!

Kara F.

Yelp
Great vibe - good(ish) food! The interior design is undeniably beautiful, service was great, food was okay! I got the chilaquiles, the flavors were good but my chips were so soggy not a single one was crisp and by the end it turned into an oatmeal looking situation. My partner got the avocado toast and loved it! That being said, I would definitely go back and try something else on the menu!

Yelp
Tyler was such an amazing and talented bartender. I had such a great time visiting here on vacation with my family. He had so many creative cocktail ideas that weren't on the menu that he made just for my group. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Food was incredible and the service excellent. Nice addition to the Ojai experience. We have the Caesar salad made with endive and the flank steak.

Yelp
Overall, Highly Likely is a welcome addition to the Ojai dining scene. The food is creative and delicious, and it is fairly priced. (Yes, it's not cheap, but it's definitely not overreaching). I've been three times - twice for lunch and once for dinner. While I liked both, lunch is definitely the move. The lunch menu is more fun and varied IMO, and it is significantly less expensive. I've had the Levantine sandwich with paneer twice - strong recommend - and the side salad with the yuzu dressing is excellent. Dinner was also great. The artichoke fritto app was incredible. Chicken schnitzel was good - nice twist on the classic. Ambience is gorgeous, and the patio area is lovely. Nice minimal yet fun aesthetic. Once you are seated, the service is really friendly, but I've also picked up on a bit of an "LA" vibe when getting seated. (Yes, I know their other two locations are in LA). In LA, you can get away with making diners feel grateful they can eat at your restaurant, because good restaurants are always packed, it's hard to get a table, and LA thrives on exclusivity. You can't do that in Ojai. The tourists are only here Fridays and Saturdays, and you need local buy-in to be successful. I think a little extra friendliness at the host stand and ordering counter would make this a home run.

Gigi L.

Yelp
The food was AMAZING! I loved the menu (Different than the other Locations but just as good) Beautiful restaurant and I LOVED being able to order at the counter, it made it so much easier to split the bill when ordering with friends. The whole restaurant is such a vibe Great Job Highly Likely Team! Y'all crushed it again!

Yelp
Amazing food and service. The steak au poivre was incredible. There is a patio, inside tables and a bar. They had both cocktails and mocktails making it perfect for our group. It's not highly likely I'll return... it's guaranteed.

Yelp
We had dinner tonight for the first time at a Highly Likely and... we were really impressed with the food, drinks, ambiance and service. All be it, they don't have a large menu but everything on the menu is or looks interesting... in a good way. We started an espresso martini for my wife and a Manhattan (up) for me. Both drinks nicely prepared and presented. For starters, we had an order of olives and an order of their chicken liver mousse. The olives were fine, the chicken liver mousse was very good! For entrees, I enjoyed the Hanger steak au poivre (medium rare) and my wife had the mushroom picatta. Both were very good! For dessert, we shared the Yuzu meringue pie (a deconstructed key lime pie). FYI, everything was nicely plated and presented. Highly likely is just what we needed here in Ojai. So.... Why not 5 stars? I'm fighting grade inflation. Highly Likely is a solid 4.4 stars if that was a scoring option. Looking forward to coming back and taking pictures to share.

Yelp
My husband and I went to this restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was almost completely empty with about 75% of the tables empty. We were told it was going to be a 45 minute wait and we asked why they said the kitchen was backed up. So we decided to wait. After our 45 minute wait we were seated at a table next to the bathroom before I even sat down. I said can we please have another table and the hostess said no there's no other tables available. However there was over 75% of the tables open. The hostess gave no reason and just walked away. We had heard the food was good so we decided to stay and stick it out. This was a mistake. After less than five minutes at sitting at our table, 3 other couples were seated at tables outside and inside. So I do not see how this was the only table available right next to the restroom with people walking back back-and-forth. I ordered a Diet Coke to drink, and my husband ordered their yunnan black tea (the black tea was just plain black tea and it was five dollars would not order it again.) The Diet Coke was delivered in a small 8 ounce glass bottle with a glass of ice on the side. The bottle was already opened, which gave me concerns about cleanliness. I believe the bottle should've been opened at our table, which is how it's usually done. My husband ordered the fish and chips and I ordered the BTLA. I asked if the sandwich came with fries and it did not but my husband's lunch did, so I just asked for a side of ranch. The waitress inform us that they don't offer ranch but they do offer homemade other sauces so I asked for the garlic aïoli. The food arrived 30 minutes later. My husband's food came out five minutes before my sandwich. The fish was amazing and so was the coleslaw! However, the fries were extremely salty. When my food was brought out, there was no side of garlic aïoli. I tried to catch the waitresses attention several times, but she just seemed to be extremely busy and unable to get to our table. When my sandwich arrived, it looked amazing. However, the taste was a different matter. The sandwich was made with focaccia bread and fell apart on the first bite. It was such a mess. The only thing that was good about this sandwich was the bacon and the mustard sauce. There was no flavor to this sandwich at all. The bread was extremely thick and dry. I ended up having two bites of the bread and ate the bacon and that was it. I was extremely disappointed. We had high hopes for this restaurant. The outside area looks amazing and the inside was well decorated. However, there's one issue the flies. There were some flies buzzing around and on the tables we believe this is because of the waste staff going in and out to serve the outside area.

Yelp
Pretty place. Limited menu. Service is out of control. Having customers seemed to befuddle them.

Yelp
Great new addition to Ojai. Friendly wait staff, good food, relaxed atmosphere. Loved the patio. Good range of dinner options - something for everyone. Prices are reasonable. We will be back again soon.

Yelp
Went for the first time last night for dinner at 7:30. Had a reservation and sat outside. The service was great. I like the green and orange color scheme and the outdoor area. I was debating between the schnitzel and the fettuccine bolognese and went with the pasta and was happy with it. My husband had the burger & fries and said the burger was good. I munched on a few fries. Liked them. The cocktails looked interesting, but we each had a glass of wine. Oh! We started with the artichoke dip. It was tasty! I think we will be going back.

Michelle P.

Yelp
I've been here three times now and can't believe the 3.5ish current rating on Yelp. The food is great, the service is friendly and attentive, the interior and patio are beautiful and comfortable. Some of my favorite dishes are the beans and the farro chopped. The ultimate "girl dinner" spot. I understand what some people are saying about the initial host experience being unfriendly - they can improve on that for sure. They're very particular about "you have a 6:30 reservation, we'll seat you at 6:30" (and not 6:29, even if your table is ready). Idk what that's about, I hope they loosen up a bit there. But, that tiny flaw is made up for in the wait staff service. It's relaxed, so not super fast and anxious, but still attentive. In particular, Matt the floor and bar manager was so great when we were there last night. Spent a while explaining to us how they stock their back bar and why sometimes things (eg, Mullholland Gin) run out, but that it doesn't mean they aren't stocking it anymore, etc. Our waitress (I didn't get her name sadly - my bad!) noticed a gift next to me on the bench and asked if we're celebrating anything - so observant! Definitely deserves more credit than Yelpers are giving this place so far!

Yelp
My wife and I went here for her birthday. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Service was great too!

Ricardo D.

Yelp
The restaurant was empty (10% of the tables were filled) and sent us to their off-store of Urban Outfitters, filled with overpriced junk. They have benches outside so that people (30m that's their waiting time for everybody regardless of how full the restaurant is) can advertise their empty restaurant. It is a corporate business pretending to be cool and hip indie restaurant. The only good thing was our server, she was very sweet and attentive. I would come back only because of her. It would be a great place if they wouldn't have the corporate mandate to keep people waiting to buy junk or advertise their business.

Lindsay K.

Yelp
Beautiful space! I had the most amazing sandwich, im so excited to find a halloumi sandwich that is so delicious.

Margarette L.

Yelp
First ever yelp review because 4 days later this is still sitting with me. Owner was so rude to a group of lovely women excited to have brunch in the new Ojai spot. She ushered them out and told them to wait outside and closed the door while they decided what to order. Can understand not wanting to block the entrance, but the tone and demeanor used was hard to watch. Took 10 + minutes to get a not so good flat white to go. Bummer at the service, born and raised in Ojai - definitely didn't feel the Ojai spirit here. Hoping they bring more of the Ojai community spirit into their practice. Cashier and barista were very sweet though!

Yelp
I wanted so badly to like this new restaurant nestled in the old Carrows building but the whole facade came crashing down after our very rude welcome. It was as though they couldn't care less about having us as customers. This place did not have the Ojai vibe at all. On top of their general snobbish attitude, they rudely demanded that we either stand in the corner or get outside while we wait for a table. We politely obliged and stood awkwardly in the corner. Then they seemed to forget about us while we waited and waited despite plenty of open seating. We were about to walk out when they finally came to seat us. They acted as if we were being greatly blessed by them that they had deigned to give us a table. The menu wasn't very appealing. We left. Will we be back? Highly unlikely.

Gabi H.

Yelp
Tyler truly made our experience unforgettable! Best drinks in Ojai! My family and I will be visiting from SD again!

Stephanie W.

Yelp
We wanted to like this. We really did. It's a self serve order, which considering the price, was a turn off. They did bring it to the table, and the server was a nice kid, which was something. Our review is actually about the food. I chose the BLTA sandwich which arrived being 3 inches by 3 inches with no side, for, basically $20.00. It was served on foccascia bread, which at first seemed ok. Until I tried taking a bite. They must have microwaved it because the bread was like rubber. Instead of avocado, it was made with guacamole. So, in essence, I had a 3x3, inedible BLT with guacamole for 20 bucks. The lemonade was good, just wish it had been a larger sized glass. My friend had the fish and chips. Fried in panko crumbs, very thinly sliced fish so it wasn't good. She had two bites and left the rest. It is Highly Likely we won't be going back here again.

Eric J.

Yelp
Friend suggested Highly Likely on a Friday night. Super lively. We had a reservation so were seated immediately. Seedy schnitzel was crispy and oh so tasty. But, amazingly, the side salad with a yuzu vinaigrette was the star of my meal. Yuzu is a small citrus fruit with a complex, floral flavor. The salad was only leafy greens but the vinaigrette was a perfect mix of oil, vinegar and various seasonings to create a light dressing with a tart flavor. I'll definitely return.

Pegah N.

Yelp
Really nice vibe and clean. Food is fresh but extremely small portions. Service was good. I highly recommend they work on their menu and reconsider their portions. Would come back if I have already ate and wanting a second small meal

Ronelle W.

Yelp
Please improve your pasta. The fettuccine alfredo wasn't al dante, it was a pastey, stuck together ball of gluten. I was able to add water and cook till edible at home.
