The Best Restaurants Along California’s Central Coast, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"LA’s Highly Likely took over Ojai’s former Beacon Coffee Company and converted it into an all-day restaurant in May 2025. Expect favorites on the menu like breakfast sandwiches, chilaquiles, salads, tuna melts, and seasonal soups from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. At night, it’ll flip into a low-lit space for dinner and cocktails from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., except Tuesdays. Eventually, service will be seven days a week. Highly Likely also serves Midwest comforts from chef Kat Turner’s childhood, including fettuccine Alfredo, fried chicken schnitzel, and steak au poivre." - Mona Holmes

Vibey Los Angeles Cafe Highly LIkely Expands to a Breezy New Ojai Location | Eater LA

"Co-owner Kat Turner — who is also a competitor on Bravo’s current season of Top Chef — opened an Ojai outpost on May 7 after taking over the former coffee shop in late 2024 and converting it into an all-day restaurant. Expect favorites like breakfast sandwiches, chilaquiles, salads, tuna melts, and seasonal soups served from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.; in the evening the space flips into a low-lit dinner-and-cocktail service from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (closed Tuesdays), with plans to expand to seven days a week. The menu also highlights Midwest comforts from Turner’s childhood, specifically fettuccine Alfredo, fried chicken schnitzel, and steak au poivre, and Turner says the Ojai location will focus on local wines and has added a new pixie tangerine sorbet to the dessert menu." - Mona Holmes

We happened to swing by yesterday during happy hour just before a movie at the beautiful Ojai Playhouse, a short walk away. The deviled eggs bring a delicious Asian twist of modernity to a traditional Italian delicacy from the 18th century. The fries were like but still yummy. The spicy chicky sammie was crispy and a wee bit spicy and sweet. Another interesting twist on a popular food. Excited to try some of their interesting drinks when we return.

My daughter was the sweetest and she took me and her brother to dinner. We were seated outside, beside the sun(darn u sun) it was beautiful, the huge tree in the center made it even better..the server was kind. The food was yummy. Especially the apps. We had the harissa carrots oh my lord those were so good, in sauce..youll love it, if u like carrots and some spice..the artichoke arugula dip with the chips, oh boy. That was amazing, it almost had a meaty texture. So good. And mix alittle with the sauce of the harissa. WOW.. My daughter got the seedy schnitzel, it looks heavy but its very light indeed. She ordered a side a fries with that. My son decided on just the shrimp cocktail and buttered noodles. And i ordered the steak frites au poivre. It came with a side of fries..it was ok. Definitely order the Crimson Crush, its nice and refreshing. I highly likely recommend it😊

Google
Amazing food and service! The butternut dip was incredible, the perfect amount of sweetness with crispy chips, highly recommend ordering! Also ordered the veggie pasta and added chicken, super delicious. For dessert I had the bread pudding with tahini sauce, the perfect combination for something not too sweet. Highly recommend checking out this new place, staff were kind and food was fabulous!

Google
First time here and it was amazing. We sat outside under a big tree and was really a nice setting. Got the deviled eggs for apps, they were absolutely delicious. Then I had the burger and fries, my wife got the salmon. Both of us were so happy with our meals and we shared them. I loved my burger but the salmon was on another level. I highly recommend this place, the service was great also.

Wanted to shout out that our first trip to Highly Likely was stand out! Thank you for sending the locals the 20% off coupon. That was definitely the impetus to get us out. So glad that we now found a new regular restaurant spot in Ojai, all with a great atmosphere, great food, and attentive staff. Five stars all the way!

Alex L.

Google
Food: I ordered the Pibil bowl. Nice presentation, flavor, and texture with the crispy tortilla, fried egg, and sauce. The dish would feel more complete if they included some bread/carb to make it more filling and soak up the sauce. The dish could also use more salt to bring out the flavors fully. Atmosphere: Contemporary, minimalist, and chill vibe. Tasteful decoration and music.

Google
Love it! There are so many restaurants on the strip that either overprice and under deliver that we were beginning to think that this was simply the way Ojai is… We discovered Highly Likely on our last day of a 5 day visit and it was our favourite! Great service, great food, healthy portions, and a beautiful garden to hang in. Good music too! Highly recommended, which should be worth something coming from me who rarely gives 5 stars to anything. The only thing that I’ll say is that I wish they didn’t have a no cash policy as it’s exclusionary.

Google
Good food. Limited menu but very nice items. Though they could do tea refills for free. Only place i have gone to in the last 20 years that charge for a refill of tea. Good tea, certainly not special. Also small glasses for the tea. Other than that Highly recommended.

Mattison S.

Yelp
Drinks were good (maple latte and lavender latte). The breakfast burrito was uninspired. The chilaquiles were okay and the eggs on them were cooked perfectly. Service was polite and prompt and location is clean.

Yelp
aesthetic: 5/5 food: 4.5/5 service: 4/5 highly likely is a very aesthetic and cosy brunch spot that's worth checking out in ojai!! they are accommodating with dietary needs and serve perfectly indulgent breakfast classics with fun twists (mushroom toast, anyone?). my family came by around 2pm on a rainy friday and there was no wait -- once we were seated, we ordered the egg breakfast sandwich, the breakfast burrito with bacon, turkey sandwich, and crispy hippie wrap. we also got an iced oat matcha with coconut cream top and drip coffee, which were much-needed pick-me-ups after a long weekend of travel. the vegan hippie wrap was super tasty and filled me up for 2 meals for $16. i love how there's the warm crispy rice thrown in with avocado, and there is protein inside too so it's a well-rounded meal. the inside of the eatery is absolutely stunning with the giant akari lamp and floor-to-ceiling windows bringing lots of comforting lighting in. however, there aren't many inside tables, so definitely come early on a busy weekend to grab a seat or shop at the local trinket place that's connected next door. would highly likely come back to the ojai or la locations - please open up in sf soon!!

Yelp
Came here for brunch on a day trip to Ojai with my mom. We came on a Saturday with no reservation and were able to be seated immediately. We chose to sit indoors but they also have outdoor seating that was available to sit immediately. Highly Likely is located in a plaza with a bunch of parking availability so you don't have to worry about that. Service was quick and fast and I loved the decor of this place! Matcha Latte 3/5, this was just okay, I think I would opt for another drink if I returned Maple Leaf 3/5, my mom got this and also voted it was just okay and that she couldn't taste the coconut that's supposed to be present Sesame Waffle 3.5/5, was this a good waffle? Yes! Was it especially unique like I was expecting given its sesame nature with miso butter? No :( the waffle itself was good! I really could not taste any major sesame tones but the miso butter was nice and unique Tuna Melt 4/5, my mom got this and liked the small spice from the Korean gochujang
google avatar

Yelp
i got the veggie burger and it was pretty good for the price. a bit filling but i was able to finish it. nothing is too expensive here and they got a few gluten free options. the people here are really nice and kind, good service. the main downside is the wait time. had to wait at least half an hour for our food, but i'd say it's worth the wait. quaint little restaurant that i recommend trying at least once.
google avatar

Debra R.

Yelp
I stop in here for iced tea occasionally. It has a nice vibe with pleasant music and nice outdoor tables. Prices are Ojai high, but service is quick and friendly. The menu looks good, so I will be back to try a meal next time.
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Went for dinner. The food was just ok. The bolognese was too salty and the pasta was overcooked. The chicken was on the dry side and overcooked. Service was very friendly and the food was served quickly. Portions way small for prices charged. This is a new way to charge more without raising prices. Dissatisfied, but the ambiance is nicely done... modern and understated. Patio seating is great. Perhaps the breakfast is their strongest value. Will we come back? not likely.

Yelp
Service is slow and the food is mediocre. There are better places to eat in town. I should have read reviews before stopping to eat here

Yelp
Got their KISS (Keep it Simple Salad) which was actually surprisingly light and delicious. Nice citrusy flavor without overwhelming, good amount of parm and crunchy croutons. I had their Chagaccino iced which was so excellent and refreshing on a hot summer day. My friend got some oatmilk matcha drink with cold foam which I don't remember the name of now. That was also delicious! The banana matcha cocktail was skippable. It sounded so delicious but ended up tasting just kind of cough syrup-y. Also the sesame waffle with miso butter was rather dry and the miso butter just tasted like regular butter. Service was great though and the outdoor patio area had a beautiful view of the mountains! Great ambiance!

Yelp
My friend, who is from Ojai, took me to this restaurant and I loved it. First, lovely ambiance. The service was good and friendly. They have outdoor seating Suitable for couples, families, and groups of friends. At the first visit, I ordered a Lavender Honey Latte. I ordered an Iced latte, but they gave me a hot one. I didn't mind, so I had it, but they gave me an iced one later when they noticed it. The second time, I ordered a Good Turkey Sando, which was delicious. The pickles on the side reminded me of Japanese pickles. I could taste the good quality of all the materials. Please note that they only accept card payments. I didn't mind it because I always pay with a credit card. . This restaurant is conveniently located near the Westridge Midtown Market, allowing you to stop by after your grocery shopping. Parking is in front of the restaurant.

Yelp
Super cute restaurant and cafe. We just stopped in for an afternoon coffee. The lattes were good, just a little too milky for my liking. But the service was awesome and the inside of the restaurant was really cute and clean. Still recommend if you're in Ojai!
google avatar

Kayla Z.

Yelp
Very very cute location. They have indoor and outdoor seating and both areas were so cute we couldn't decide where to sit! We were greeted immediately by every single staff member which was so nice. We just came in for a small bite and a little Matcha after driving over to Ojai before we have dinner plans. This was the perfect stop! I got the passionfruit Matcha, which was phenomenal. Matcha and passionfruit are both of my favorite flavors and they mix so well together neither was overwhelming or overpowering, I could taste both. We also got a regular iced Matcha latte, which was also delicious. The fries were perfectly crispy. The deviled eggs were really delicious. They had a nice little kick to them with what tasted like a Yuzu sauce that went so well with the spice! Theu are also connected to a store that was very cute too! So while we were waiting we got to look around which was fun! Great experience and will for sure be coming back to try more things and get another passion fruit matcha!! Came here again the next day because I couldn't stop thinking about the passion fruit matcha and it was even better here! Grant made our experience so wonderful! He gave us great recommendations of what to get here and helped us with other places in Ojai to visit! Thank you to Grant for making our experience so wonderful!!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely loved coming here for breakfast! Ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage and breakfast sando. Both were very good but the breakfast burrito was my favorite. The chai latte here is also delicious. All the servers here are friendly and loved service we had. The establishment is dog friendly and the interior decor is beautiful inside. They also have plenty of patio seating in the back which is great. Would totally come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute and comfortable cafe! They have a good sized parking lot with indoor and outdoor seating, a bar and nice cushy booths. The style of this place is so chic and modern. They have a good range of food to choose from. Sandwiches and bowls and breakfast and classics like fish and chips and chicken fingers. I really loved my chicken! That's the god tier of chicken breading, very crispy with juicy insides. Comes with 3 sauces!!!! Sauces are the way to my heart and Kat got me. Hot honey is in right now and it was perfectly sweet and spicy. The yizu aioli was bright and creamy and the classic ketchup too! I had plenty of dip for all my needs! If i lived near this place, I'd be here every week, but i was visiting a friend in the area. She'll be back. She got a bowl and thought it was good but too soupy and not like a dry rice The service was friendly and the line moves pretty quickly. When i was waiting for my food, kat, who was on top chef most recently can't by to check on me and handled it like a pro. It was such a comfy place to have a good lunch.

Yelp
The service was super friendly and attentive. We walked in on a busy Sunday midday and the host made use a reservation for 15 min later. The wait staff were super upbeat and helpful. We had a matcha lemonade with coconut cold foam- unique and delicious! I had the hippy Crunchwrap- the crispy rice was great, and the broccoli and carrots were crunchy - I didn't notice any avocado in my wrap(which was disappointing) and it could have had more tahini and more chili crunch - but overall it was tasty. My friend had the kale salad with fried chicken added--she said it was fantastic especially the chicken. I was really impressed with the staff and Love the changes made to restaurant- the outdoor space looks amazing! The coffee drinks and the cocktails looked amazing- Will have to try them next time!

Yelp
Steak : pretty good, cooked really well but not the biggest fan of the sauce but that is just personal preference Big Bean Appetizer : pretty good but wouldn't order again, a bit too lemony, bread that came with it was pretty good Endives Caesar : okay, wouldn't get again Overall the quality of the food was there, the flavor was okay but I was underwhelmed Will try the breakfast and lunch before writing this place off but won't be back for dinner

Yelp
Highly Likely is such a beautiful new spot -- bright, stylish, and thoughtfully designed with plenty of seating and free Wi-Fi, making it the perfect place to grab coffee, enjoy a great meal, or get some work done in a relaxed setting. We ordered the burger and the falafel plate, and both were fantastic. The burger was perfectly cooked -- juicy, flavorful, and balanced -- while the falafel bites were light, crispy, and paired perfectly with the pesto on the plate. The matchas were also amazing, especially the passionfruit matcha topped with their cold foam -- refreshing, unique, and just sweet enough. Everything we tried was delicious, and the space itself has such a welcoming energy. Can't wait to come back.

Morgan Z.

Yelp
Can't wait till the OG Ojai locals find out what this LA based company is really about. They look pretty on the outside but not only is their food extremely salty, they claim protection and community, but the second ICE takes their employees they have nothing to do with it. Be aware on who you are supporting and where your money is going. This company does not take care of the people that work for them.

Thomas J.

Yelp
The whole experience was pleasant. The staff was professional, the food was unique and flavorful. I especially like the decor The beautiful blonde woman who greeted me at the entrance was engaging, entertaining and especially welcoming.. so much so that I let her order the food, your choice was excellent. Tom J

RoseEllen S.

Yelp
Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen needed caffeine in a bad way. This was a lovely place to land in the city of Ojai. They roast their own coffee and it is quite good. A very smooth finish. We also ordered the breakfast raspberry bun. It was perfect. If I could make a couple of recommendations, I would suggest servers' long hair be pulled back while working near food and remind the very kind and busy (!) cashiers (not the servers or food prep!) to sanitize their hands after a sneeze. The end.
google avatar

Jaimelene S.

Yelp
I'm leaving a review after my first visit & I will be back! First impressions - super busy, kind staff, clean area, well loved establishment. I was greeted kindly and helped out quickly. I popped in around 1pm on a Sunday and let the host know it was my first time (I wasn't sure if it was a waited visit or order and sit). She explained their service and how it varies by weekdays or weekend. I ordered a simple burger, fries, and an iced latte. The staff were very sweet and attentive, refilling my water and checking in on me often. I hung out for over an hour after I finished eating to read and took a iced matcha home. My experience was great and i'm excited to be back. Thank you for having a clean comfortable space with a kind staff.
google avatar

Vanessa R.

Yelp
Order before you grab a seat. The cashier was helpful and offered recommendations from their unique take on classic brunch food. Recommend the Chilaquiles, breakfast sandwich and passionfruit Matcha. The Kyoto bowl was very salty, I would not get it again. Beyond that dish, my next trip to Ojai, I would come again!

Sofie F.

Yelp
Ambiance is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable-- especially for SoCal. Food was delicious and we received it hot and fast! Servers were all friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back and recommend this gem to our friends!
google avatar

Mimi S.

Yelp
Cash only. Super cute and comfortable ambience. The Mediterranean breakfast was delicious and filling. The chilaquiles was delicious too!

Cynthia S.

Yelp
My family & I stopped by for a cup of coffee. We ended up getting cocktails and chicken tenders as well. My family can be a bit picky and we were pleasantly impressed by everything. The chicken tenders were a perfect appetizer! My favorite was the vanilla bean latte, it was great! We will definitely be coming back! Also the service was great, the services were kind and attentive.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
Great vibes here. You order inside and they bring the food to your table. FINALLY a place that gives you enough avocado to go with your food. The sauces were amazing. Beautifully plated. The waiter even offered to get my dog his water bowl.
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
Made the trip from Ventura to try their passionfruit matcha! It was very delicious. I'm always happy when they have a vegan cold foam option as well. I'm excited to go back to try the food.

Evelyn G.

Yelp
To begin with, the smell of cheap fried food assaulted our nostrils when we walked in. The grilled halloumi sandwich was deep fried! My date ordered the turkey sandwich which was so dry that he had to asked for a side of mayonnaise. All the windows had greasy fingerprints. I DO NOT recommend this spot.
google avatar

Matt J.

Yelp
Highly Likely is a superb addition to the Ojai scene. While it is an expansion of an LA mini-chain, the tasteful decor and setting feel tailor-made for the town and not merely a transplant. The Kale Salad is already a favorite in the Ojai Salad Pantheon: fresh and complementary ingredients, properly dressed, different textures to keep it interesting, a surprising (and welcome) hint of spice and a decent portion. The airy atmosphere and cheerful service complete the picture (I was grateful the server was able to keep certain ingredients off the dish). The Kale is overall phenomenal and already a mainstay, but the feedback I would offer is this: cut the kale more evenly/thinly as there were some large and unwieldy pieces; put more squash in! (it needs to be a hero flavor, not a sidekick); mix the salad a little more vigorously so the dressing doesn't clump and make certain bites more intense. My only other wish is that they offered the Kale Salad for dinner too. Maybe add that on, Highly Likely team???
google avatar

Bryan P.

Yelp
Imagine that Highly Likely space used to a be Carrows and they've beyond transformed it from what it's been over the years. The ambience is great and the food is even more delicious. We came for the branzino after hearing about it the fish multiple times on Hell's Kitchen and their version did NOT disappoint! It was crisply fried yet delicate in its sweetness and flake. The Spiced Cauliflower and Feta starter that was tasty with its delectable spices and creamy, smooth Feta along with the truly unique Smoked Trout dip with trout roe accompanied by an assortment of cucumbers, watermelon turnips and saltines. Last but not least the peanut caramel Boudin which was not cloyingly sweet but just enough to cut your savory palate at the end of your meal. All in all it was delicious and hoping to see them thrive in Ojai for years to come!
google avatar

Bebe B.

Yelp
Love this restaurant! It has been very busy lately but unfortunately half the place is taken up by squatting lap top rats. Single people taking up whole tables with a coffee and their office. I just can't deal with buying a big meal with friends then having to search for a table not in the hot sun. Unfortunately these people have taken over restaurants as well as cafes. At the bar they are spaced out with single seats between them. We do love the food here and the cocktails are excellent. The farro salad was great , fish sandwiches is really tasty too. I wish we could be assured of a seat when dining here but too many people hoarding tables to spend money and get a crap table
google avatar

Sabrina E.

Yelp
More like Highly UNlikely. I went for dinner and the food was awful. The bolognese was too salty and my friend had the steak frites and it was just as horrible. It's a bougie diner with terrible food, I wouldn't recommend. The service was great at least.
google avatar

Blake R.

Yelp
Been coming to Ojai regularly for 2 years and this has become my go-to fave (the Dutchess is a close 2nd but this place is more of a day to day casual joint). Love the chilaquiles, farro salad and chicken schnitzel.
google avatar

Patricia B.

Yelp
We were asked to step aside and wait to be seated. We stood in a hallway where servers were walking in and out. We saw two parties being seated and heard one say, we don't have reservations. Not sure what the deal was as it was not crowded. Once seated it took way too long to have the waitress come over. We ended up leaving passing her on the way out. Highly unlikely...

Abigail O.

Yelp
My latte was delicious but unfortunately I will not be returning because of the very rude older blonde woman taking orders at the to go counter. If you're going to charge $9 for a latte I except at least fake pleasantries
google avatar

Sofia Isabella F.

Yelp
The food is great. The salads are definitely the best bang for your buck! Such a fun and hip atmosphere as well.
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Holy universe they did a great job with this place. The outdoor seating has a ton of shade under a spectacular Chinese Elm. Smiski liked the menu. Lots of vegan options. The vegan Caesar was awesome. I would not get the falafel again (it's yellow inside, not green). Of the things my companions tried, the spicy grilled cheese was voted best. The passion fruit matcha drink is odd (the cold cream is vegan). Highly recommended. It's easy to eat here 2 days in a row.
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
Great food and service. We had the chicken strips, focaccia french toast, and the butternut squash salad. Everything was great. Already planning my next visit.

Madeleine C.

Yelp
Food and ambience was great. Such a cute little spot. Got the Falafel mezzo type plate and turkey sandwhich, as well as a coffee with coconut cream top and matcha lemonade. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jaime D.

Yelp
So, we finally made it here. We waited a bit because our daughter and some of her friends went here pretty soon after opening and they said that there were still some kinks that needed to be worked out. The kinks have still not been worked out. Our server got our drink order, asked if we were ready to order food (we were not) and then forgot about us. I had to call him over (20 minutes later) and remind him that we had not ordered. I got the Mediterranean eggs and my husband got the fish and chips. I'm a salt lover, but the Mediterranean eggs were salty even for me. The fish and chips were acceptable. The crust on the fish was great, but the fish was dry. And the chips were cold. We will definitely try this restaurant again, but there are major improvements that need to take place

Lola K.

Yelp
Just terrible all around. Went for lunch over the weekend. The service was slow and atrocious. Took 20 minutes for water, even longer for food. Server never checked on us. Food was burnt and disgusting. Two of us ordered the same thing and only one meal was comped. The mgr came around without apology or any hospitality. Stay away! There is one star for ambience as that is all it has going for it.
google avatar

Jamie T.

Yelp
Service was friendly food was outstanding, Chilaquiles with perfectly cook sunny side up eggs!
google avatar

Debra R.

Yelp
The food is amazing, and creatively delicious! The service was super friendly and kind while not overbearing.I enjoyed the experience very much!

Kara F.

Yelp
Great vibe - good(ish) food! The interior design is undeniably beautiful, service was great, food was okay! I got the chilaquiles, the flavors were good but my chips were so soggy not a single one was crisp and by the end it turned into an oatmeal looking situation. My partner got the avocado toast and loved it! That being said, I would definitely go back and try something else on the menu!
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
I was excited to try our new coffee / food place. Ordered a cold brew only to discover they don't have half & half. What?! Folks are friendly. It's nice inside. Entrance is awkward, especially if there's a line. But no half & half = not a real coffee place. Bummer.
google avatar

Troy B.

Yelp
Food was incredible and the service excellent. Nice addition to the Ojai experience. We have the Caesar salad made with endive and the flank steak.

Mia G.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. I walked in to grab a coffee to go as I was on my way back to LA. One of the girls working there just shushed me to the side, didn't give me a menu to look at or anything and started helping another group who came after me. I walked out.

Cory W.

Yelp
Terrible. The burger was so overcooked (in spite of ordered medium rare), the sauce slopped on the plate was unidentifiable, and the bun was so dry. The fries were floppy and tasteless. Ack. My fault. I knew it was going to be overrated, but thought I'd give it a try. The hot bar buffet at Westridge would've been a better choice.
google avatar

Julie H.

Yelp
Incredible matcha lattes that are ceremonial grade! The food was yummy also. Beautiful outdoor seating that was pup friendly with nice bits of shade in the summer heat.
google avatar

Nicol R.

Yelp
Excellent honey lavender latte! Cute ambiance, indoor and outdoor seating. Service was very kind.
