LA’s HiHo Cheeseburgers Jumps Santa Monica to Mid-Wilshire Tomorrow - Eater LA

"HiHo Cheeseburger is ready to grow into its new Mid-Wilshire location this weekend. Reps for the company say that the first day of service will be tomorrow, right next door to recently-opened sibling projects Uovo, which does casual pastas, and Japanese hand roll bar Kazunori." - Farley Elliott

I can confidently say it was one of the best cheeseburgers I’ve ever had! From the moment I took my first bite, I was blown away by the flavor, quality, and attention to detail. The beef was perfectly cooked—juicy, flavorful, and complemented by their signature cheese that melted just right. The buns were soft yet sturdy, holding everything together without overpowering the taste. Each bite was a perfect combination of freshness and indulgence. The service was also top-notch—friendly, efficient, and welcoming, which added to the overall experience. The ambiance of the place was casual yet inviting, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a great burger. l

Google
Hi Ho Restaurant is a hidden gem! Their food is absolutely delicious, with generous portions and flavorful dishes. The service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Highly recommend the honey tenders - it's a must-try! Overall, great value for the price. Can't wait to come back!"

Google
We hit up this location, and we're not disappointed. The burgers were amazing! We also tried the loaded fries, which we also loved. A couple of my kids tried the tenders and were very happy with them. We finished up the meal with a chocolate and a vanilla shake. Every bit of our meal was delicious.

YUMAZING. high quality ingredients yield absolutely delicious results. Great music, comfy booth, and super friendly staff. I’m officially going to be a regular.

Google
I've been living in Los Angeles for three months and after trying several places this has been the best burger eating experience I've ever had. The homemade, natural, juicy and fresh taste make this burger the best I have ever tasted. The ambiance of the place is more than fine, everything in its place.

Google
This is my first time in this restaurant after searching for a good burger in LA. Overall, ingredients seem to be excellent once, however, the meat wasn't cooked enough. It needed more seasoning. The fries was OK ( not the perfect one) The caesar salad was excellent. We tried all sauces, all were so good. The service was excellent by Sam. Thank you Sam ☺️

Google
Best Halal beef burgers in LA! Juicy meat with savory sauce and great spices! It will honestly keep you coming back for more burgers. Their fries could be better but overall the food is amazing. I recommend getting pastrami with the burgers. Adds more tenderness to the meat with the fat and more flavor. Absolutely awesome burger place. They have great music taste too !

Google
The burgers are juicy, the fries are crispy, and the shakes are rich and creamy. The Mid-Wilshire location offers two hours of free parking with validation, making it a convenient spot. Overall, a great place for a classic, no-frills burger experience.

Yelp
HiHo was very good. Ordered one fries 2 burgers and 2 shakes it took about 15 minutes. The burgers are very tasty being well and properly seasoned. The sweet pickle is a nice touch. They are a little messy. Fries are crispy and good. Shakes are a tiny bit salty. Overall very good. It cost $46.00 so I do not find this to be $$. I found it to be $$$.

Yelp
The burgers are perfection. Like a different In n Out thats slightly thicker patties and medium rare. Always made the same in that reliable way. I would give them 5 stars for their burgers.. even more of I could. The issue is that their fries are garbage. They are always too cooked.. always brown.. too greasy. Never LIGHT and crispy. I come here a couple times a month. Every once in a while I think maybe they changed the fries and give it another shot. But no. But still the Hiho burger has me coming back. Ultra simple soda selection is perfect as well. That fries sauce thats a buck fifty or two extra is also bombb. The Caesar salad is solid. Please make some solid fries. Also the place is clean.. workers are nice... ambiance is chill.

Yelp
This is my first time trying this place. This is probably one of the best milkshakes and burgers I've ever had like anywhere in Los Angeles. This place is fantastic. I would highly recommend. I'll probably even get some later this week. I can only speak for what I had, but the hot pastrami sandwich is probably one of the best things if not sandwiches I've had like ever 10/10

Yelp
First, our Enterprise Car rental guy highly recommended this place for great burgers....he was definitely right....they have great burgers! He also suggested parking in the parking garage right next to it. The garage has security! We ordered two different burgers to share. The Big Matty & The Willie Mae. Note: if you are a sauce gal like me, get extra Matty Sauce! It is delicious! We noticed several business groups eating together. You could tell they ate there often. They knew exactly what to order and sat right down in their usual spots. Their comfort with the staff, the menu, and the seating made the entire experience feel like a hometown diner. Without the greasy spoon!!! We asked the staff for some tourist suggestions. They pointed us toward several places they enjoy. All of their tips were glorious! Be sure to stop here for a hearty lunch! Food is great, the place is super clean, and the staff is top notch perfection! So glad Sam sent us to them! Most Sincerely!!!

Yelp
HiHo Cheeseburger is one of the most underrated and under appreciated burger spots in LA. All the hamburgers at HiHo are 100% grass-fed wagyu. HiHo is a non-tipping establishment according to their website which is always nice. However, many folks on here complain about the 6% service fee used to fund their operations. Frankly, I much rather pay 6% than have to tip 20%. It's really a win-win in my opinion. What we ordered: -Pastrami Heat $13.95 -Kids' Cheeseburger $6.95 -The Willie Mae $10.95 -From-Scratch Fries $4.95 I've been to the Santa Monica location, but this was my first time visiting the Mid-Wilisire location. We were in the neighborhood down the street visiting the Peterson Automative Museum and we wanted to eat somewhere good close by. Having been to HiHo before in Santa Monica. I recommended to my wife and son that we eat here if they were in the mood for a delicious hamburger. I ordered the Pastrami Heat as it was very tempting getting an opportunity to try the world's only grass-fed wagyu Pastrami. I can't think of another place in LA offering grass-fed wagyu pastrami and LA is a pretty big Pastrami city no less. The Pastrami Heat was a very good burger. It was cooked perfectly and had some nice heat thanks to their spicy onions. The burger is a little bit on the smaller side, but its worth the price because its so good. The wife got The Willie Mae and it was very good as she let me try a few bites. It was good fried chicken sandwich. We both wish it has a bit more spice as we were told it was a bit spicy and we both love spicy fried chicken sandwiches. I hope they can come up a spicer version of The Willie Mae. All in all it was good sandwich. Our son got the Kid's Cheeseburger and he likes it, but he liked fries even more. No surprise there! The fries are seasoned well and are pretty good, but portion size for nearly $5 is a bit less than it should. I understand having a smaller burger because it's grass-fed wagyu, but potatoes are not grass-fed. Why are French fries so expensive? Overall, it was great lunch and we'll come back to HiHo again.

Yelp
Let's me start off by saying that i might go back because of the taste of the fries but the burger was a bit salty or to many condiments... and the service was NOT ok. I was told that my burger would be ready in 10 mins...and nobody was there but I then waited for 25 mins for my burger to come out. In fact, I spoke w the manager and he told me that thr burger was just entered into the kitchen display system. And then I showed him my receipt and he still didn't acknowledge that the order was taken 25 mins ago...so I guess the customer and receipt time stamp are NOT always right, but the kitchen display is right? Haha. So I was about to make a scene but didn't want to because my friends were there.. haha..so 1 star for the fries and 4 negative stars for burger and poor service

Yelp
Hi ho hi ho off to get cheeseburgers we go...every single week of this pandemic! I've spent most of my money on the double cheeseburger well done with no onion jam and a side of fries. So far out of my 100 visits (slightly exaggerated), they've only messed up my order once. And when that happened, they made up for it by fixing my meal and giving me a free key lime pie (which was a solid dessert option). Parking is in building right next to it which is free for the first 15 minutes. Once time I did get locked out because the door to the garage was randomly locked and I had to wait for a car to come up to make the gate open.
google avatar

Kathy X.

Yelp
Burger isn't bad but also not out of this world. Fries stay nice and crispy, which is great, but again not out of this world. I'm not too sure what the hype is around this spot, it's very basic.
google avatar

Gabrielle G.

Yelp
A little disappointed since I've been wanting to try this place out for a while. It seems like they use non frozen meat for their burgers . They only gave me a small amount of fries in the bag which was not worth the price. I also felt like there were some parts of my burger that were not cooked properly , had a funny taste.
google avatar

Odet M.

Yelp
I love their burgers. The service is okay. They have a lot of online orders and there could be a wait time.

Arvin A.

Yelp
Extremely greasy food. Took over 1 hour to get our food. Others were also complaining their orders were all messed up. McDonald's has better less greasy food than this place. Stay away.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
This is a great spot that you should definitely not sleep on. Everything is super fresh -great fries that actually taste like potatoes, and the burger was so wonderful. Amazingly soft bun, patties cooked perfectly, and sauces added great flavor without overpowering. Nice chill atmosphere and the staff was really friendly and enthusiastic. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Move over In-N-Out, you're great but HiHo cheeseburger might have just stolen my pick for best burger. We ordered HiHo while in Beverly Hills as a family member was receiving care at Cedar-Sinai. All of us loved our food. I had the classic triple cheeseburger and it was packed with flavor. The burger was perfectly cooked, plenty of cheese and don't even get me started on how good their ranch is. I got every last drop of that ranch with my fries because it was so good I didn't want to waste any. My dad had the hiho double and really liked it and my mom also had a double with the spicy onions which she renamed the "hot" onions because they were really really spicy. It was a great experience and made of lovers of HiHo cheeseburger. I'm hoping to find myself in the area again one day soon so I can have another.

Yelp
we went this past sunday and we loved it! we ordered the pastrami burger and the hiho cheeseburger along with 2 side orders of fries and a drink. we paid around $45 and it was well worth it. the beef was juicy and the entire ratio toppings to bun and beef was perfect. the fries were also very good nothing too special. the service was fast and we didn't have to wait long at all but the line did pile up as we were finishing up. the downside is that you have to pay for extra sauce on the side. ranch, special sauce, etc are all $1 each. other than that we had no complaints and will be coming back.
google avatar

J V.

Yelp
Boy I have to travel 1.5 hours to get here but I sure don't complain about it at all. Best savory cheeseburgers on the planet. Service is always quick and accurate. If you're looking for a halal alternative to In and Out but only better, this is the place!
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
It's simple. It's wagyu. And it's mainly a double smash burger. But what they don't tell you how juicy and perfectly cooked the meat is. It's pretty good and simple for that craving. Came right after going to the museum down the street and it is well worth it. Come and see for yourself.
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
Fairly priced burgers, probably one of the best burgers I've had and I don't like burgers. I would definitely come back with friends, but not alone. Wagyu burgers always give me pause because the marbling of the meat and meat quality seems like it'd be lost once ground into a patty, but the patty was soft though not as good as other wagyu I've had. Classic (make it spicy) - comes with 2 patties, ketchup and cheese. Making it spicy just adds spicy onions, which I really enjoyed. It does add an actual kick too, which I can appreciate. I paid a little over $10 for this burger, no fries, which I think is reasonably priced. Good black pepper flavor as well. Fries - double fried and actually taste like potato, contrary to frozen fries that most establishments will sell. I did enjoy this with the ketchup on the table, which is more acidic than typical ketchup. Street parking is fine for this establishment. There's also a bathroom that opens into a hallway. Food came out at an average pace for us. Overall, 4/5 in my experience.

Yelp
Provender: this is an amazing burger joint in the mid-Wilshire area. The burgers were really good. Everything was well made. I ordered the Hiho double burger, which comes with various toppings like lettuce and other things. I also ordered the (thick cut) fries. Prices: the double burger with an order of fries is under $14. Parking: there's a private, gated lot. It's best to enter, traveling west on Wilshire. After getting a ticket, validate it inside the restaurant. You scan it, then you scan the ticket to enter the garage and exit - no inserting the ticket anywhere. People: fun for all. Perks: the staff were friendly, and everything was delicious. This is a great burger place. If ordering online, you can't order in advance beyond like 40 minutes. Remember, they don't accept cash.
google avatar

Barbara C.

Yelp
Sometimes it's quite nice there, but sometimes it's just unbearably noisy. Sometimes the sandwiches are quite tasty, but sometimes they are stale. The same goes for the service staff. Some of them are very helpful, and some are not so friendly.
google avatar

Nick A.

Yelp
I had been to another HiHo Cheeseburger in Studio City. It was an easy five stars so I figured this one would be every bit as good While the staff and the service were great, my burger wasn't nearly as good as the one I had at the Studio City location, My burger was undercooked and the meat wasn't even warm. My friend had a chocolate shake. It was really small, but it was good, he said. I was bragging to my friend about how great HiHo is but we both left underwhelmed. Still, the staff is super nice and the service is good. Maybe I just got a cold-undercooked burger by accident. There's two-hour free validated parking in the building so don't let the lack of street parking deter you.

Yelp
WOW WOW WOW!! HiHo totally blew me away! I was not expecting to be overly satisfied with how great this cheeseburger was. You want an awesome juicy, cheesy, gorgeous, mouth watering cheeseburger to take you back to the old school days? Well you can get that HERE! Their menu is simple.. HiHo cheeseburger, classic cheeseburger, the willie mae (fried chicken tender sandwich) and even some salad options. The cheeseburgers can are either double or triple patties, you can add some pastrami for a small additional cost and even make it spicy! I ordered the HiHo cheeseburger with twice fried fries! I was tempted to get a shake and a banana cream pie but hey, I still left satisfied. This location had indoor and outdoor dining and the tables were clean and most of them open. The staff was friendly and prompt in taking our order and serving us. Awesome place with delicious cheeseburgers to hit the spot!
google avatar

Shwe N.

Yelp
Decent burgers to try if in the area! Lots of construction all the time and prolly limited parking, but there's a good amount of activity to do around. The burgers are hefty sizes and full with seasoning and bursting flavors, and they're tender as well. I lov the purple cabbages in these. Only 4/5 becos I personally wouldn't always pay so much for a burger haha
google avatar

Rory H.

Yelp
5 stars to start because I am a good guy: Minus 1 star because I am a menace Mine another star because who wants a well done burger Minus another star because my burger took 26 minutes Minus the penultimate star because I asked for extra pickles and they refused to accommodate 1 star
google avatar

Salah A.

Yelp
Tried the double hiho cheeseburger first. The beef was good. It was a bit too wet of a burger. The house pickles were not to my liking. Afterwards tried the double hiho cheese burger without the house pickles and added the spicy onions. Now that was a great burger.
google avatar

Jared C.

Yelp
I had the HiHo Double Cheeseburger... really, reallly, reaaaly good. Fries were equally good -- seemingly what In-N-Out aspires to -- real potatoes made fresh -- but these ones are good (sorry In-N-Out). I ordered take out - so I can't speak to ambiance, but service came fast --- everything was nice and hot.
google avatar

Frank D.

Yelp
Came here with a few coworkers during lunch time. I was amazed it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. The food was just as good as another location I have been to. Staff was very kind and they even came to our table to see how the food was tasting. So happy I moved my work office close to this area. Now I have a great burger joint to go to.
google avatar

Joseph C.

Yelp
Hiho Cheeseburger is a gem for anyone who loves a classic cheeseburger done right. The focus here is on simplicity and quality--think juicy patties, perfectly melted cheese, and a well-toasted bun. The flavors come together beautifully, showcasing why sometimes less is more. The beef is top-notch, and you can taste the difference in each bite. The cheese is gooey and flavorful, and the bun is just the right amount of soft and crispy. Each burger is crafted with care, making sure every component complements the others perfectly. The atmosphere at Hiho Cheeseburger is laid-back and welcoming, making it a great spot to enjoy a delicious, straightforward burger. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or sitting down to savor your meal, Hiho Cheeseburger delivers a satisfying experience with every burger.
google avatar

Ellen H.

Yelp
The best grass-fed cheeseburger in town! Simply juicy and delicious. I love good burgers with passion. Hiho has been my go-to place for about a year. That sats a lot.
google avatar

alexandra k.

Yelp
Easy parking (free validated 2hr) Order at the counter, seat yourself. This was my first time here and they're known for their wagyu patties. I got the double and the meat was tender but IMO there was too much sauce making it both a messy eat and also masking the flavor of the meat itself. I also wish there had been silverware (mostly to cut the burger for easier eating).
google avatar

Jon D.

Yelp
In and out is better. Don't understand the hype. Burger was average. Fries had no flavor. Nice people work here at least.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Yes, the Wagyu hype is REAL. If you love a damn good juicy burger with double crisp thick cut fries and find yourself in the LA area, run, don't walk to this tip-free casual joint. The friendly staff's focus to turn out a high quality former burger for a reasonable price is unmatched my only complaint is it's not up in NorCal.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
Trouble getting there: there is major construction on the road this restaurant is on, so it is incredibly difficult to get here. If you do make it here, there is a parking structure next to it where you get a ticket from a machine, then the restaurant validates the ticket when you leave so that you don't have to pay for parking. If you want to eat here right now, my suggestion is just to get it doordashed (delivered) to you. It was a hassle to get here. Experience: the employees are all very nice! The food is a bit expensive and you have to buy a burger, fries, and a drink all separately. That's a bit of a bummer. It cost 31 dollars for 2 adults to eat here. Taste: delicious, amazing, and maybe worth all the trouble. The burger and fries tasted awesome. I hope to make it back here when there is no construction.
google avatar

Anthony K.

Yelp
Got the big matte and fries. Friendly staff and clean decor, plenty of street parking on a Saturday afternoon.
google avatar

Leena S.

Yelp
We were looking for a quick bite near our hotel and Yelp reviews directed us here. HiHo uses high quality beef, which is 100% grass-fed antibiotic-free and they also offer a vegetarian burger. So, this place was perfect for the hubby to get his cheeseburger fix on while I checked out the vegetarian option. Being in California my expectation for a vegetarian burger was higher (East coast restaurants just don't seem to get it). I'm happy to report it was very good and my husband enjoyed his cheeseburger. Neither is accompanied by anything, so you'll have to add on fries or something extra if you want a side.
google avatar

Tieisha L.

Yelp
I'm giving 4 stars because this burger was very good and Throughly cooked. And whatever the sauce is that they use is amazing. I ordered for my office for a lunch order. Celebrating a birthday. We ordered drinks and the drinks were wrong and not full. Half drink in a fountain cup. (irritated) Other than that, food was very good. I really haven't had a good burger like this is a long while.

Abe S.

Yelp
Came back here again after posting the prior review. The place is on a sharp decline. They don't even give you plates to eat on anymore. The fries isn't crispy anymore. They give it to you in a paper bag that has holes in it. This place will likely be out of business very soon. Sucks to see such a great establishment take such a nosedive down :(
google avatar

Wayne C.

Yelp
After going to La Brea museum we had few actual food options that wouldn't charge an extreme amount for something that was at a minimum decent. However, we decided to go to HiHo after reading the other good reviews left for it, and we left absolutely glad that we did. To start with, for the price (roughly the same as any fast food place) you get the top of line service and food. Basic, quality ingredients in an extremely delicious and juicy burger, paired with excellently cooked fries made a great afternoon meal that held us over for the rest of the evening without breaking the bank. We also decided to give the milkshake a try and we were certainly not let down. All of this not mentioning, the staff was kind, attentive, and made the dining experience better. All on top of validated parking as well! My wife and I will certainly be returning, and are glad we decided to give this place a try. 10/10 recommended

Kamila T.

Yelp
I'm sorry but the food is terrible and at the prices it's crazy that it's in business at all!!! Stopped over quickly just to grab some fries and for $5.75 and a 20 min wait I got a bag of the worst most unseasoned overcooked greasy fries I have ever had !!!! Couldn't even eat them they were so horrible if I hadn't already left the location before opening the bag I would return them immediately I've tried the burger here on a previous occasion and was so disappointed but thought maybe it's a fluke but nope they can't even get the fries right!
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
I like this location because it's between Uovo and kazunori. There is free 2 hour parking with validation. The burgers are like smash burgers so the meat patties are thin. I always order the hiho cheeseburger but decided to try the pastrami burger today. I like it better than the regular cheeseburger.
google avatar

Kenny H.

Yelp
Fries are good, burgers are great, but the banana cream pie! That's what brings me back. During Covid we ordered this a few times a week and i recently visited and it all tastes the same and it was very good!
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
Burger was AIGHT, not all that. - Fries & Milkshake are fire though. - OVERALL MID SPOT.
google avatar

Marina M.

Yelp
Hiho has been my favorite burger in town for a while. Wilshire is the closest location to me so I've come here the most. But the burger has changed, fries too. The good: - garage parking is easy and validated - service is good and attentive - i always find a table to sit at - as a European I continue to value the no-tipping policy of this joint The not so good (twice , so not just an off day or month) is food and only reason I used to come here: - fries were brown (not just golden)yet oily and soggy somehow? Maybe reheated? Bummer. Used to be my favorite fries in town. - burger used to be seared nicely, now not seared, just cooked to "well done" but has a lot of black pepper on it for some reason. The pepper and lack of sear completely eliminate the delicate Wagyu meat flavor, could be any meat now. Now the only thing I taste in the burger is oil and pepper. I really really wish you guys brought the old wagyu-forward style of burger. Used to be so goood I'll try the Santa Monica location again but it's so far
google avatar

Shon L.

Yelp
This place is such a great find for my cheat meal! The 100% Wagyu beef burgers are phenomenal and don't forget to order the pie! Wait... pie? At a burger place? Yes. Trust me.
google avatar

Yelp
HiHo deserves more attention. It's been awhile since my last review for this place so I wanted to write an update. I am a big fan of all their other partner restaurants. They all use good quality and tasty meats. Their meats are 100% grass-fed antibiotic-free wagyu beef. For the price it is impressive. Last I came here was before a movie premiere. We almost went to a fancy restaurant but was glad we came here instead. They had new on their menu Matu fries. If you have never been to their Matu restaurant then you are missing out. My husband and I are big fans so we had to get them. It was a bed of fries smothered with all types of goodies. It was delicious and I highly recommend it. We also got their triple cheese burger and a banana cream pie. I was kinda upset we didn't get the milkshake but the banana cream pie made up for it. HiHo never disappoints. Food is fresh and delicious. Definitely worth checking out if you want something fast and cheap but without bad quality meats.
google avatar

Caroline Y.

Yelp
Definitely one of the better/best burger spots in mid-city! I went in not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised by how juicy and flavorful the burger was. The fries are also perfectly crisp and thick. I recommend the cheeseburger + fries! Parking is easy (validated, I believe).

Emily L.

Yelp
Burgers are very good (not too greasy), but the fries aren't very crispy. The lettuce wrap held up. Food was also warm when we got it and the outdoor patio was nice.
google avatar

Dante W.

Yelp
I didn't have the best experience on my first visit. But I do think I would've given them 5 stars if it went a little smoother. I entered the restaurant and placed my order. I asked for no cheese, when I received my burger it had cheese on it. Unfortunately I was already waiting for 15 minutes so I had to leave to attend to other business. I told the cashier that I would be back later for the remade burger. Instead on them making my burger fresh when I returned I was given a burger cooked almost an hour before I arrived. Fries were ice cold. It was just terrible, felt like a total waste of money and I love burgers.
google avatar

Carlos F.

Yelp
I've been living in Los Angeles for three months and after trying several places this has been the best burger eating experience I've ever had. The homemade, natural, juicy and fresh taste make this burger the best I have ever tasted. The ambiance of the place is more than fine, everything in its place.
google avatar

Gerine G.

Yelp
We chose this establishment because it's walking distance from The Academy Museum, which was convenient. Easy to order separately as a group and plenty of seating. I ordered the "Hiho Double", fries and a drink. The burger was fantastic, fresh and juicy. The "Matty" sauce was delicious and the fries were tasty. I did have two disappointments: My order of fries was dropped in the kitchen, so they had to make another order. I didn't get to eat my fries with my burger. The fountain drink options are very limited. A few in my group don't drink soda and the ice tea is a cheap alternative when you're paying $3 for a drink. A punch or lemonade would be nice. I would of ordered water if I would of checked out the fountain options first. Overall, a nice dining experience with good food. I gave 5 stars because the food was great!
