D.C. Gears Up to Welcome Sicilian Pies, Caipirinhas, Burritos, and More | Eater DC

"Chef Saul Zelaya’s upcoming tortilleria, Hijos del Maiz, leans into his maize obsession by importing and nixtamalizing Oaxacan corn for tetelas, quesadillas, and more; at the preview he served a carnitas quesadilla made with fresh nixtamalized corn tortillas, melty Oaxaca cheese, homemade crema, and pickled red onion, and while a set location and opening date are still being confirmed, keep an eye out for Hijos weekend pop-ups at its Dupont Circle pizza shop." - Aparna Krishnamoorthy

Incredible food! If you want authentic Mexican food that will fill you up for a whole day, come here. We spend two weeks in Mexico and this was the best place. 100000/10

Did brunch here, lots of nice options for a Mexican brunch. We had chilaquiles, tamales and vegetarian taco. Was very nice. The "Hulk" juice was great!

It was just okay. First of all there were problems with the menu - both my boyfriend and I were handed different versions of the menu, and we weren't sure which to use. The QR code on the table also sent us to a menu which was outdated, which caused problems when we tried to order things which were no longer available. Our waitress seemed lost with half the things we ordered. Onto the food... We tried the omelette relleno de chilaquiles and the ahijados. Both were quite bland, which is a shame because in a place like this you expect the basics of chilaquiles to be good. The salsa was quite bland. Our food also arrived without our drinks, which I think is quite a basic rule in service. I wonder if we just ordered badly, but with the problems with the service I feel like most menu items would be similar.

Supreme spot in CDMX, great variety of chilaquiles. Enjoy the spicy guacamole.

I was interested in this restaurant. Despite a creative menu the food itself was just ok. Prices are a little high.

the food was good, had the veggie eggplant and portobello tacos, my partner had the tlayuda and french fries. we both had the poblano cream soup, its really good. plus we had the rajas con crema. prices are a bit high, but normal for a restaurant in this area. the next day when we had the leftovers, my partner said the tlayuda tasted really weird, the rajas gave me a mouth rash and a stomach ache, and the french fries tasted like flour and not real potatoes. so i recommend not ordering so much that you take the food home. also the way they put it in the to go boxes was really sloppy, and they charge extra for that. service is ok. they where sweeping the dirt patches on the sidewalk and the dust was blowing into our food, we had to move.

Delicious chilaquiles. We tried the birria and the cochinita and both were excellent

Great place to ask for a "cafe de olla" it is a coffee made with a touch of cinnamon and sugar cane. You won't find the same taste of coffee other place. It is different type of coffee and great to experience. Food is also great I recommend the omelette and cochinitas chilaquiles. It has a great atmosphere and service is great.
