Hijos de Maíz in Mexico City turned out to be the perfect little spot for a late breakfast — and yes, they serve breakfast all day long.
Missing from the photos were the chilaquiles with pork belly, drenched in a spicy morita sauce (worth the regret). We also tried the cochinita chilaquiles torta, topped with pickled onions and packed with those unmistakable Mérida flavors.
The picaditas were another highlight: thick corn tortillas topped with refried black beans, panela cheese, and sour cream. We ordered ours with cecina, thinly sliced steak that added the perfect savory touch.
Noé, our wonderful server, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He gave us the best recommendations.
Simple, authentic, and full of flavor — exactly what you want for a relaxed breakfast in CDMX.
