Hikiniku to Come (Shibuya)

Hikiniku Hamburg is a must-visit for hamburger steak lovers. The meat is incredibly juicy, freshly grilled right in front of you, and served in stages so every bite stays hot and perfectly cooked. The simplicity really highlights the quality of the beef. The staff are efficient and polite, the place is clean, and the overall experience feels very focused on the food itself. Rice and miso soup pair perfectly with the hamburg, and you can adjust the doneness to your preference. Expect a queue, especially during peak hours, but the line moves fast and it’s absolutely worth the wait. Highly recommended if you’re in Shibuya and want a satisfying, no-nonsense Japanese hamburger experience.

Purchased Advance Priority tickets for three via TableCheck. Arrived early but still waited approx 30 minutes as staff seated us together - smaller groups will likely be faster. Once seated, the beef patties arrived in under five minutes: insanely juicy and best enjoyed on their own. Even my usually picky mother loved it. Bonus: friendly (and cute) male staff who was tending the beef patties. Absolutely worth the wait if you can secure an Advance Priority ticket.

Reservations are a little tough to get. Dined solo so lucked out for a lunch timeslot. Check the front photo on where to enter as a friend mentioned they had trouble finding the entrance. You prepay when you make your reservation but I added 2 extra patties. They had different condiments to pair with each patty. I think my favourite was the oil marinated green chilli and thr grated radish and ponzu. Felt full after eating all 5 but they started to taste the same halfway through. Was told this was a must visit when in Tokyo but felt it was a tourist trap with the amount of foreigners dining. Little underwhelming with all the hype on social media. Good place to try once when craving hamburg but not a must visit place.

The restaurant is well hidden from the main street. Need to climb up a narrow staircase, and wait outside for roughly 30 min even though we had booking made 2 months prior. Once inside, you see people all sitting in a circle with the "chef" cooking the meat patties on a charcoal griller. Our basic package includes 3 meat patties, unlimited supply of Rice and Miso soup. Patties were cooked well, juicy and full of meat flavours - chef did a good job, controlling when the flip the patty and when to rest it. There are sauces you can add to the meat, but i prefer to eat the patty as is with rice without any sauce or garnish.

Love this place, they only serve one dish which is the grill burger meat with rice. But the satisfaction derived from good meat and good rice is just unbeatable. Simply and delicious and good price. Highly recommended. Reservation is recommended and even with reservation, you might still need to wait for a while before being called.

Made a reservation for 4 at 6:30pm on a Tuesday night. The host and most of the servers and cooks spoke english. When I went they were fully booked and not taking any reservations. The seats are at a high chair and table counter surrounding the grill where cooks are constantly grilling juicy patties. They provide a variety of sauces to try with their patties. There is also a sheet they provide that explains their recommendation on how to eat everything and what sauces they have. The patty was so juicy, it was gushing when I would poke it. I especially liked the ponzu sauce with radish and mixed it with the sauce that had green chilis with oil. You can get as many bowls of rice that you need with no additional charge. This was an amazing experience, when I was done eating, there was a line out the door.

TLDR - The food was great but it's challenging to take nice photos. Thank goodness their renovations were completed when I wanted to visit. The location is not the easiest to find, as it is quite well hidden in that alley, and you need to queue up the stairs to get in. You need to get an online reservation when visiting the Shibuya outlet, and you will need to prepay for 1 set which consists of 3 patties that are served one by one. They have different suggestions for eating each one. There are also some other sides and drinks you can order on the day itself.

Wow! Just wow! I did not know how good a plain hamburger could taste until our visit to Hikiniku to Kome (Shibuya). We visited on their reopening of this location on November 1st. Having seen so many reels on instagram we were a little scared we would be disappointed…. We were not! The food, ambiance and service was great. We will be back next time we are in Tokyo (or Kyoto). Given the popularity of the place you definitely need a reservation. Regular reservations open online a week in advance.
