"While loading up on market boxes, dairy and pantry items, and prepared meals, throw in a liter bottle of Aperol ($40) for spritzes all day or week long. The inventory will appeal to discerning drinkers, featuring brands not readily found at other restaurant liquor stores, like High West double rye and Smith & Cross rum. Prices are at a premium compared to regular retail." - Caroline Pardilla

Absolutely perfect and 💯 recommend. I had the salmon and it was absolutely amazing. Hubs had a burger and it was delicious. Service was nice.

We picked this restaurant on a whim, and what a tremendously lucky break. I ordered chips and dip that included a gorgeous array of fresh, delicious tortilla chips served with a cheese/jalapeño dip and guacamole. The plate was teeming with all three, for $10! We couldn’t finish it. What?! I don’t think I’ve had good guacamole in LA for under $18. My friend ordered garlic/cheese bread, which was a delicious and generous portion. Much of it was taken home. She had the chopped Italian salad, which she described as the perfect combination of ingredients that balanced so well. I had the Chinese chicken salad, which I’m sorry to say, was kind of bland. Requested more dressing, but that didn’t perk it up much. I had chocolate mousse that was so absolutely scrumptious, I had to finish the perfect portion. It was so smooth, balanced, and gorgeously presented. Not too sweet and rich, how mousse is often served. When we arrived, the staff told us to take a pick of the available tables, and we were quickly handed menus and given a chance to review them. Service was courteous and efficient without too many interruptions. We were shocked that the place was almost empty, but they close at 7 pm; so maybe breakfast and lunch are packed? In spite of my salad, everything else was perfect. I would definitely come back to try more items. The prices were incredibly reasonable.

Amazing food and service! The garlic bread and the soup were really good!

This place is AMAZING! My family threw an engagement party for us here and it was beyond our expectations. The ambiance is spectacular, live music sang by Frank Sinatra (he sounded just like him), an amazing bar with a lot of well stocked whiskeys (my fiancé and I LOVE whiskey), and great tasting food…I don’t know if the fried chicken is on the menu (it was a special request by me) but I dream about it every night. It was that good!!! And the staff…they are exceptionally good at their job. Kyle, the bartender was out of this world and Stephanie the event coordinator was so sweet and caring. Definitely coming back here for sure!

Google
This place was terrible. We were promptly seated and orders taken. I ordered iced tea (no sugar or sweetener was available, and our waiter never came back, so couldn't ask for some). A different person delivered our food, mine was lukewarm (tasted mediocre) but my husband's meal was hot. Then literally no one ever came back to check on us. My husband had to go to the bar to ask for our check. Overall, it was a terrible experience. We left and went to get pizza. Oh and our MIA waiter: we saw him about a block away from the restaurant. Would not recommend.

Google
Tasteful atmosphere and very good service, this was after the lunch rush hour. The crowd varies depending on the time, but I'd say it is more on the high end of things. I hear during lunch rush hour the place is packed with people who work nearby so time yourself and unless strictly necessary don't come between 11:45am and 12:30pm. Downs:Music a bit loud (A too frequent nuissance these days in bars) I liked their tea service and that they actually had tea. I ordered chinese chicken salad, and I'd sincerely give it a 4, ot a 5 but,hey this is not a chinese food join. I'm totally coming back. Another note: Parking is challenging in this area, and this restairant-bar does not offer validation.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. We had such a pleasant dinner. The prime rib French dip was so good with fried onions in the sandwich and a rosemary infused au jus to dip in. And I'm still thinking about how good my wagyu steak was. It's a thick steak, which was cooked perfectly. Came with buttery mashed potatoes and a beautiful side of vegetables. For dessert my husband ordered the ice cream sundae which was also delicious. This place is on my list to come back to!! Great service. Everyone was so nice and a lovely ambiance.

Yelp
I've been here a few times over the years, for lunches with colleagues when we need to stay close to the courthouse. The food has always been sufficient, but not necessarily anything to write home about. Until today. Today the miso salmon salad was fantastic. Terrific texture and temperature. Generous portion size, balanced flavor between the fish and the salad. Whoever was back there cooking today did their thing!

Yelp
My fiancé and I sat at the bar, right away I noticed how woolly the chairs were, super uncomfortable for how nice looking they seem. Second, the bar tender gave us a menu right away and didn't even once mention happy hour. (Only reason I stopped at this establishment at 3:30 pm). Regardless, we did ask for it and it's pretty decent for LA. (View photo) We got a margarita and an old fashioned. Both were really good. The happy hour old fashioned used four roses. Overall it's a chill atmosphere but also a little work down for the "upscale" look they're going for.

Yelp
Located in downtown LA a couple blocks from the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hill St was a convenient and classy place to grab dinner at before watching the LA Phil. We started with a round of drinks, their mai tai and blackberry smash. Both drinks were strong and fruity. For my entree I got the beef bolognese which was a great choice. The meat sauce was seasoned well and their noodles were thickly cut. The pesto also looked solid, and would've been my second choice. Our only critique was on their vegan pasta primavera which was loaded with random vegetables and looked like abc soup. Servers were nice and welcoming. Overall, I would go back if attending another concert in the future.

Yelp
Visit: 2/2023 Review finished: 3/2024 Unfortunately I am attempting to finish this review in 2024, long after visiting this establishment so I do not recall in detail my visit here besides giving it 4/5 stars. I do remember coming for happy hour before the basketball game we were going to. The drinks were okay. We ordered food off of the happy hour menu. We had sliders and nachos which were okay. But trusting my ratings, 4/5 stars means overall I had a good experience and will be back one day.

Daphne B.

Yelp
We weren't impressed, it was a random Wednesday, there in what should have been a busy dinner time but it was basically empty. They had a decent selection but the meals were mid at best. Service was ok, but we had to keep waiving down the server as he was hanging out in the pit talking with another service member. It wasn't a "bad experience" it just wasn't memorable or good enough to warrant a return visit from us in the future. Could have been a fluke Wednesday...

Yelp
Continently located between the federal and state court houses in DTLA . Lovely decor, has a French vibe with cloth table cloths, napkins and fresh flowers on the table. We ordered the Hill Street burger and the Chinese chicken salad. Both delicious and reasonably priced. Definitely a nice place to eat lunch with clients or to meet up with colleagues. Service was very attentive.

Alecia G.

Yelp
The service at the bar was great. Brussels sprouts appetizer is a large portion so be ready for that. Friday night was laid back vibe.

Yelp
We went to MOCO and we were starving after looking at all of the art. I found this place on Yelp and it did not disappoint! We just took a quick walk from the museum downhill Street. It was super easy to find. This place is so classy and elegant yet very chill and relaxing. It was exactly what I wanted! The service was outstanding, and the food was delivered to us quite quickly. We started out with chips and dip which were tortilla chips with a side of guacamole and a side of queso. I thought the queso would be hot, but it was cold. However, it was very tasty so it didn't matter. I love that. They have non-alcoholic champagne!, I didn't feel like drinking so it really hit the spot. My girlfriend ordered the classic burger with fries and it was huge! We could've definitely shared it, but I was really happy that I got the chicken pesto melt. I don't normally get sandwiches but this! I got a side salad that had a good amount of vegetables in it, and the dressing was very simple. All in all this was an amazing experience and we would definitely go back again! They also have a happy hour Monday through Friday from 2 PM to 5 PM- our waiter did not offer us happy hour menu so I had to ask, but we weren't drinking so we didn't even order off the happy hour menu next time. I will definitely be back.!

Elys N.

Yelp
Let me start by saying how lovely this place is! We walked in, and we were seated immediately. Our waiter was outstanding, thank you to Wilfredo for making some wonderful suggestions. We were eating light, as we were going to the theatre after dinner, so I had the French dip, some of the choicest meat I've had, and the au jus was perfect. Hubby had the turkey tartine, fresh and very tasty. Wilfredo made suggestions for dessert, we settled on the salted caramel soufflé, yummy! All in all we had a great time, and will definitely return when I'm in the area.

Yelp
I was visiting downtown LA and front desk personnel at the hotel where I was staying recommended this place because it was only 10 walk away. I entered and sat at the bar. It was 5pm and there were 1/2 dozen people at the bar and it appeared welcoming. I ordered a non alcoholic drink and a burger medium rare. I got the side salad instead of fries. 1. Very good burger and cooked to order 2. The side salad was OK The ambience, and friendly bartender made this a very nice experience. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Wow! What can I say, this was a great find. I just happened to be out in LA visiting from Denver. I chose this spot because it was in walking distance from my hotel, so glad I decided to check it out. The place was a little empty. The server was extremely nice sitting me at a table by myself. I started with the Brussel sprout appetizer 10/10 and got the Asian chicken salad as a starter, another 10/10. The food came out quickly and I was impressed with the atmosphere inside. For a main course I got the braised short rib with mashed potatoes, 9/10. For dessert I enjoyed the tiramisu, 10/10, just the right size and great flavor. Honestly I wish I lived out in LA because I would be back here in a heartbeat.

Keana J.

Yelp
The hillstreet burger is delicious, juicy and flavorful and fulfilling. The brioche bun and guywre cheese is decadent, crispy bacon and the seasoned fries or sweet potatoes always hit the spot.

Jackie J.

Yelp
Decided on this restaurant because it was close to the Lakers game. Probably about three blocks up. I read the reviews and I was curious to check it out so here we go-- Let me explain the three stars. We got there about 4 pm. We made reservations on OpenTable, but we really didn't need to because we were the only people in the whole restaurant., which I felt it was going to be a good thing. Our server forgot to bring us water, and when we asked for recommendations, he didn't speak very good English, and didn't know the menu very well. So I went with the traditional dirty martini. I think the waiter would have been a little more educated on the drink menu we would've went with some thing a little more out of the norm. Our drinks did take longer than expected as well That was two strikes. I will say that our drinks were pretty good and reasonably priced, we would've went for seconds if they would've had a quicker turnaround, but we wanted to head out and catch the game. Now let's get to the food (strike three) , I read a lot of reviews about this hamburger, pesto pasta and this chicken sandwich so of course we ordered them. Let's start with the pesto pasta, it came out lukewarm, and the noodles were definitely not fresh like other reviewers. They were straight out of the box, and I know my pasta! My husband ordered the hamburger which was made with came on a brioche bun so it did have some height to it, the quality of meat was, average . My husband did enjoy it, but he said nothing to brag about then, of course, I ordered the chicken sandwich which had a lot of good reviews. In my opinion, the sandwich was mostly bread and the chicken patty itself was thinner than a McDonald's McChicken. Nothing to brag about again kind of a high priced small chicken sandwich. And that's a wrap on food. Ambience, super cool inside. Kinda upscale with brick walls. Nice open windows. If you sit at one of the higher tables, you can actually see out the windows looking onto some LA traffic. Lol Right about 4:45 we noticed people started trickling in. This restaurant is in the heart of downtown LA with lots of high-rise buildings, so you see a lot of suit and ties and women carrying fancy purses walking in.

Spencer A.

Yelp
Had the best meal here. It's not easy to find an upscale sit down in a restaurant in that part of downtown but we found one today. I had the Miso Black Cod and it was cooked to perfection. The sides were very tasty too.

John T.

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! The wife and I had our annual Valentine's Day dinner here and Hill Street Bar did not disappoint. We were greeted at the door by the lovely owner Stephanie. She couldn't have been warmer and more welcoming. Great service always starts with the leadership and this is no exception at Hill Street Bar and Restaraunt. Wilfredo was our waiter and he continued with the phenomenal service. We started with the Portobello Mushroom soup and it was superb. The main course was the Waygu steak, it was the most tender I have ever had. The deserts were so good too. I had the chocolate truffle cake and it was to die for! If you are looking for great service and great food while downtown LA, stop here. You won't be disappointed!

Robyn V.

Yelp
I am writing this review as I sit in the restaurant. If I could give it a half a star I would because the french fries are delicious. Everybody should know that I ordered the miso cod. The waiter brought out the salmon said he would put in the order for the miso cod. It was taking an exceptionally long time and he kept saying four more minutes, four more minutes. We said that we're not going to be paying for it and we'll just take it to go since we were going to a show and couldn't wait any longer. The Manager said he was going to charge it if we took it to go. Can you imagine, we have been here at least six times in the last 18 months and this is the treatment that we are receiving. FYI, you should know when I walked into the restaurant there was only two tables occupied. There are other restaurants in the neighborhood that have fabulous food that you should try and not go to this restaurant at all. The ironic thing about the whole situation is. When we asked for the manager, they said the manager wasn't even there that night. So either the manager has a very strict policy, which is absolutely ridiculous or they just think that their business is so good that they don't care about people who will spread the word that this restaurant has very bad customer service. Oh, and they thought that giving us some free burnt cookies would help the situation.

Yelp
Ambiance: spacious dining hall with full bar service, high ceiling very airy inside, good for large group hangout Service: very friendly though slow as apparently understaffed, it took quite a while get food served Food: standard bar restaurant menu HILL STREET BURGER - *** bacon, Gruyère, blue cheese, arugula, caramelized onion, aioli, sundried tomatoes, Parmesan bun, overcooked patty, asked for medium but got medium well to near well done BUTTERMILK CRISPY CHICKEN - **** Napa cabbage slaw, pickled cucumbers, jalapeños, jalapeño ranch, bolillo roll, spicy and tasty, recommend French Fries - **** very crunchy, recommend CAESAR Salad - **** fresh heart romaine, roasted garlic Caesar, Parmigiano-Reggiano, herb croutons, flavorful, recommend Chocolate Chips Cookies- *** thin cookies Price: moderate portions and reasonable prices, about $25 per person for a fulfilling meal

Crystal L.

Yelp
Hill Street continues to be the best.... We came for another lunch and had to get a burger (one of the best burgers in LA) and their seasonal pumpkin pina colada (wow!). I had the appetizer shrimp crostini and it was amazing. Always terrific service too. A must go.

Eli B.

Yelp
Nice place, good staff. Waiter was attentive and staff was present and looked alive. Sadly my burger was not. One sad patty inside sad bun with sad tomato sad lettuce. Nothing at all like the sumptuous cheesy saucy menu offering that had been deliciously dangled. Couldn't have made a mess even if I'd wanted to. My friends chicken pesto sandwich looked a little better, but only by feet not miles. The fries were quite good.

Latrice H.

Yelp
This is a good after work place. The service was great and plenty of seating. They also had good drink specials. I'd probably give this place a 3.5 overall though. The food is not the best and tastes like bar food for sure. It could have been the items I ordered, since I did mostly appetizers, but I'd stay away from those in the future. But it's worth it to grab a drink after work.

David C.

Yelp
Great food, ambiance and prices. Had a fun time and had to go back twice The burgers are amazing

Richard R.

Yelp
Service here was fantastic, food was as better. I would recommend stopping here when in Los Angeles. The ambiance was also top shelf. They need to win some awards.

Zulma S.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for a cocktail and stayed for the food after looking at the fabulous dishes and being waited on by Vladimir. Wonderful waiter and excellent service! It was quaint, romantic, well-lit and the old fashions and sashimi were excellent. We had wonderful food and a great time. Definitely will be back! Thanks!

Michael G.

Yelp
Amazing food. Amazing drinks. The staff is so very helpful. Such a creative menu. The atmosphere is very elegant. Perfect for a business lunch or an elegant dinner.

Laura O.

Yelp
Lovely environment, delicious appetizers and excellent salads! (Chopped salad my favorite), to end with a matcha latte couldn't ask for more!! Laura O.

Tyler M.

Yelp
Sooo good! Oh my gosh, the cheese bread was amazing, the schrimp crostini was insane, and the French Dip was off the charts! Seriously so tasty! Super cool waiters that were friendly & fun! I loved this place! Thank you Kyle was the awesome service!

Yelp
Every few years my brother, who lives in New York City, comes to Los Angeles and we have lunch. Today it was my turn to pick where we went for lunch. I picked the Hill Street Bar & Restaurant in the Kawada Hotel. I had the Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich with a salad. My brother had the Miso Salmon Salad. He said the piece of salmon was much larger than pieces of salmon are in New York City. Everything was very good. I ate everything. My brother didn't eat all his greens. I told him to eat his greens. I am like the commercial where people turn into their parents. I'm 76. My brother will be 74 in April. Today was the worst weather in 30 years so there weren't many people out having lunch in the storm. The people who were out were all enjoying their lunches at the Hill Street Bar & Restaurant.

Peter S.

Yelp
If you're looking for a great Sando looking no further. Clean establishment with plenty of seating is a win. Would highly recommend this place if you're looking to hang out with some friends. Drink some beers and have an uncomplicated meal. The staff is pleasant, but I would definitely recommend going when they're not so busy.

Jeff C.

Yelp
More like 3.5 but I'm rounding up. Inside is nice and spacious. There's some TVs over the bar to catch a game. They have a decent happy hour. Mon-Fri 2-5. I got off early from work so I'm glad I was able to catch it. They should really extend it to 6 maybe to get more of the office crowd cuz it has some decent deals. $5 beers, $6 wells, $7 cocktails, and some bar bite specials. I liked their old fashioned and sliders. The wings were ok. I got the spicy Thai flavor but it wasn't spicy at all. My friend got the chicken tortilla soup and said it was ok. Service was good. Friendly staff. It's downtown so parking can be tough to find. You can find some meters nearby but it might be easier to park in a pay lot. If you're around downtown and trying to catch an early happy hour, definitely check them out.

Lori T.

Yelp
our party of 4 enjoyed a mai tai, buttermilk chicken sandwich, shrimp skewers, turkey avocado tartine, fries and 7 hr. pasta bolognese. we are members of the clean plate club! service was quite good, quiet large dining room on a Friday afternoon. thanks everyone!

Yelp
Where the Eats are as Sunny as the LA Skyline Stumbled into the Hill Street Bar & Restaurant in search of a meal and got served a side of sunbeams and camaraderie on a plate. Dan Trapp, the apparent wizard behind the curtain, must've waved his wand and conjured a culinary clubhouse right in the historic ticker of Downtown LA. It's a spot where the food is as modern as my phone but warms the soul like an old vinyl record. The menu? Eclectic as LA traffic and twice as satisfying. Forget the Walk of Fame; Hill Street's where you strut to the rhythm of clinking cutlery and the murmur of contented diners. The staff? They're dishing out warmth like it's going out of style--attentive as a stage mom, minus the sequins. And the windows--letting in so much LA sunshine, I thought I might leave with a tan. These wide eyes to the world make for the best people-watching this side of a reality TV show, all while you're chomping down on Americana with a twist. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Hill Street Bar & Restaurant roped me in with its charm and held me tight with its flavors. It's the kind of place that leaves you thinking, "Maybe community spirit is just a shared dessert away." Gotta say, leaving Hill Street without a sense of delight is like leaving LA without seeing a celeb--it just doesn't happen. So here's to Hill Street, a modern American oasis where the plates are piled high and the smiles are free of charge.

Yelp
Came in to pre-game before a Dodger Game based on the location in DTLA and reviews here on Yelp. First impressions are positive... There is a nice floor to ceiling wall along one side of of the restaurant. The windows open up and create a patio-like feeling. Dining room is ample and spacious. Feels inviting and cool at the same time. Happy Hour specials are standard, your typical choices like old fashioneds, margaritas and basic beer choices. I tried the cadillac margarita which for $10 was well mixed and delcious. For my entrée I stuck with the object of affection... The namesake burger that caught my eye in all of those Yelp reviews. It surely did not disappoint... It was flavorful, juicy and tender. Truly a tasty burger. I would definitely come back and give Hill Street another spin.

Jeremy L.

Yelp
The Happy Hours at the Hill Street Bar & Restaurant within DTLA is worth a visit. It has a great Old Fashioned that only costs at $7.00 during the Happy Hours. The Expresso Martini made by Fernando is the best you may not find at DTLA and most places. On 3rd Thursday of the month, a live singer performance by Franky will be held between 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. It is a good place for a group gathering and a special event. Stephanie W. Dohalain is a GM who has been managing this place very well.

Steven A.

Yelp
Just had another business luncheon with a client in Hill Street. They make you feel special. The service is on point and the food is the best in downtown LA. I also love their wine list and highly recommend coming here.

Gifti D.

Yelp
They served us old guacamole, the fish wasn't cooked all the way . Wouldn't not recommend at all.

Yula K.

Yelp
Agree with the many other 5 star reviews. This place was wonderful. Came with my husband before seeing a show at Ahmason Theater. Parked near restaurant and walked to theater and back after. Made a reservation for 530 to hit happy hour before it ends at 6. Very glad we did. We both had Cadillac margaritas. Love that they used crushed ice for these. How margaritas should be enjoyed. We Also ordered both sets of sliders , fries, and Brussels sprouts. Agree with other woman who said the Brussels sprouts were a PERFECT dish. Dates and goat cheese were wonderful additions. Sweet and salty, crunchy and smooth. Would come back and order 7 orders of Brussels. All of the food was very good. I usually prefer chicken sliders but the beef sliders were much better. The pickle in the chicken slider was more like a cucumber.I did not mind but husband does not like cucumbers so he was not loving them. Also noticed chicken was thin and flimsy. I am nitpicking now because I had a wonderful experience. HAVE to mention that the bathrooms smelled very nice too. The candle they used worked wonders. Pic attached.

Yelp
Today, I visited the restaurant just for an amazing Expresso Martini, which was made by a top cocktail gentleman. Click the link below to view a 30-secnd video: https://www.tiktok.com/@jzbl55/video/7363796474133613870?_t=8lyGrfAJKZy&_r=1 As always, this is a hidden gem restaurant in DTLA. Everyone there is very nice. It also offers the UberEats if you do not want to drive. This week, the Hill Street is celebrating Cinco de Mayo all week at the bar. Awesome food and drinks. A must try while in DTLA!

Jenna J.

Yelp
Stopped by today for a late lunch because it's close to the federal courthouse. Pretty good burger - very blue cheese forward. Fries were a little greasy. Service wasn't great. The lady who served my burger said she was going on a break and someone would help but that didn't happen. I was forgotten and had to go to the bar to ask for my check.

Judith D.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing place. Staff were friendly and our food (baked fish with veggies and an awesome sauce) was out of this world good. Can't wait to go back.

Karine B.

Yelp
Solid place. I tried the cacio e pepe and it was very good. Washed it down with a well-made aperol spritz. I really liked the vibe and the service was pretty good also.

Joey M.

Yelp
The food here is so good! And theres such a lovely atmosphere to the whole experience. From friendly staff to the little roses at every table (such a nice touch) hill street is a go to date spot for my partner and I. I HIGHLY recommend the 7 hour bolognese, its my favorite!

S G.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The happy hour here is a hidden gem!!! They have a great food and drink HH and everyone was super attentive and friendly! I recommend this place for everything!!

Stefan H.

Yelp
Came for Happy Hour based on the rave reviews. I guess folks have different ideas from me on what great food is, or it was an off day! The food wasn't bad, although the brussel sprouts upset my stomach, which never happens! Tacos were small and without much flavor. Sliders were each 1/4 of a frozen hamburger patty on a slightly stale bun. Maybe I ordered wrong. On the bright side the beer was cold and Wilfrido provided great service!

Kat K.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! My family threw an engagement party for us here and it was beyond our expectations. Definitely coming back here for sure!

Yelp
Best Burger and Fries you'll ever have. it's soooo gooood. I live in the bay area but this spot in LA can't be touched. Put this spot on your must try list.

ALLEN G.

Yelp
I love the food here - they really killed it The Bar is classic and one of my favorite spots inDowntow

Kyle S.

Yelp
I normally do not write reviews but in this case of Hill Street I will. Ms. Domalain and the entire staff made Local 924 two receptions the first one May 2022 and the last one on August 13, 2024 more than memorable. The decor and setting up for a last minute 2 hour window for 25 more additional guest showed the dedication she has as a restauranteur. For over 20 years i had put together dinner events in many different cities on many economic levels. Hill Street Bar & Restaurant I wish I could take them everywhere with me so I don't have to worry about anything but enjoying the invited guest. The food, the service, the ambiance but equally important as those is a very honest and loving establishment.

Lois W.

Yelp
Food and cocktails were good. It's a super cute place. Wasn't a huge menu, but I enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was pleasant . Loved there was a parking lot directly across the street. I absolutely will check them out again.
