9 of the Best Places for Pizza in Jacksonville | Eater Miami

"Hillary’s Chicago Pizza makes deep dish pizzas in personal size or sharing size, with a perfectly thick crust and plenty of fillings. A favorite among diners is the MFW, which has Italian sausage, mushrooms, green pepper, cheese, and onion stuffed inside, then sauce and the entire pie is topped with a blanket of pepperoni. Pro tip: Order a deep-dish pizza before getting to the restaurant so there’s not a long wait to eat. These pizzas can take 45 minutes or more to arrive at a table after they are ordered."

Google
It’s not very often you find a place that prepares and serves incredible food. We had the Meatballs, Thin crust pizza, along with the Chicago Pie. All were outstanding I had the opportunity to talk with Bruce/ The owner and I shared our love for food and the preparation of it. All of it needs to be made with love. Yes, old school This meal was outstanding and Kudos to everyone there! P.S. His sauce is the best I’ve had, ever!

Google
Gosh, this place saddened me deeply - no pun intended There were absolutely no standards. None. An hour and a half to get a pie, the first one they messed up cause they didn’t hear us. The table we ate on was so grimy that my phone stuck to it, seriously? That’s super gross guys, it looked like a surfboard. Where’s the passion? I couldn’t find any… The owner was basically wearing pajamas greeting tables, that’s no way to operate. You run a business, show some professionalism, show some pride. The pizza was somehow undercooked in the middle, and the crust was so smoked & black it was inedible. I would pay $35+ for a good pizza, instead, I was charged $21 for a smoked hockey puck. Be prepared to wait an hour for deep dish. I really wanted to like this place… & it was the last restaurant visit of our vacation, so we will eat at home later. You guys can do way better.

Google
Outstanding food! You will have to wait approximately 45 minutes for the Chicago dish pizza, but it is definitely worth the wait. The crust was flaky and just the right consistency. The toppings were delectable!. Atmosphere was warm and inviting, not a bad song selection the whole time I was there. 10/10 would definitely recommend, and will definitely be back

My buddies flew in from Cincinnati Ohio and they wanted some good pizza. Hillary’s Chicago Pizza was said to have some good quality pizza so we drove from Middleburg Florida to check it out. Definitely recommended if you’re in the area. Laid-back environment, friendly service and surprised by the beer choices we had. The pizza was damn good too! I’ll definitely be back!

Google
I'm from Michigan. I've been to Chicago. I have had Chicago deep dish from a lot of places, ordered in frozen pizzas, made them at home, etc. | This, considering the options in Saint Augustine, is THE worst you can do in town. I am usually optimistic, extremely considerate, but for $30 for a "family" size deep dish, this bowl of what seemed like microwaved cheese and lukewarm salsa style redsauce (with ONIONS?), in a flash frozen crust, was criminal. It tasted watery, the cheese reminded me of when you over micro-wave a leftover slice of fast food pizza. I get it, if you are drunk at this place, and its available, considering you might have a fork at hand, yea you might mess with it. You would have to be absolutely wasted to consider it. "Keep it flat, the sauce is like lava". I drove home with this, careful as could be, but alarmed at the description of the sauce being like "lava", like I'm heading home with a nuked bowl of soup with no lid. The sauce needs to have texture, density and leaving chopped tomato's and onions in a liquid mess is not a replacement. Save your money, you would be better off getting a redtop Detroit style pizza from Bronx House.

Google
Ok, we got a thin crust pizza so our review is based on that only. From time of order to delivery to the table was 36 minutes. Three other people in the restaurant when we got there. That's an excessive wait. When the pizza did arrive, the only similarity to the Chicago pizza joints is they cut them into squares. The crust was super thin and flimsy and seemed to have corn in it....it was sort of a yellow color. Anyway, not the crispy crust of a nice Chicago pizza. Cheese and sauce were ok. The 12" pizza is roughly 113 square inches and costs $17...plus tip. An 18" Costco pizza is roughly 254 square inches and costs $10. I prefer the Costco pizza and it's a far better value.

Google
Met a few friends here for dinner and what a delight this place is!! The pizza is SO good!! Authentic Chicago pizza in every way. I have had Chicago pizza in Chicago and this is better than several places I have been. Quick friendly service ad well with a great vibe. We will be back!! I highly recommend this business!

Google
Purchased “partially cooked” cheese pizza at Fernandina Beach marketplace yesterday. I was so excited because I grew up in suburban Chicago eating Chicago pizza. Baked it today and was very disappointed. The best thing about the Chicago pizza is the flaky, pie-like crust. The crust on this pizza was dense and tough. And way too much tomato sauce in relation to the amount of cheese.

Yelp
Wow, I had the best time.... The food was outstanding, reminded me of back home in Chi Town. The young lady that waited on me was so nice and I had a great time sharing memories of the Chicago land area. The ambiance was like a typical Chicago good time bar. Loved it !!

Yelp
Probably the best Chicago Beef sandwich in all of Florida...and that includes the Portillo franchise. Authentic as it gets with rolls and giardinieri from Chicago. Owner was super friendly and the place has good Chicago decor. I did t have a beer but they seem to have a good selection. We didn't do the deep pizza but went thin crust cheese. It was good but not to the level of the sandwich. Could have used some toppings and next time will try the sausage on it, also brought in from Chicago. Don't let the strip mall fool you into thinking the location can't live up to the standards.

Yelp
Great food! Great seasonal beers! Great bartenders and employees! The best Chicago style pizza I've ever had. The best thin crust pizza I've had in Florida. I want to try some of their other food! The Chicago style pizza takes 45 minutes to cook so you may hay a few minutes to grab a cold one on a hot Florida day or evening. You really should. This way you can sample the beer specials at the bar. Some nights they also have wine sampling to try glasses or 1/2 bottles of wines. It's not just a pizza place but it can be because their pizza is fantastic. I'm a NJ/NY pizza guy with a Chicago pizza because of this place. Try it for more than a few reasons!

Yelp
We moved here from the Chicago area 4 years ago and I haven't been able to find a "true" Italian Beef sandwich since, that is until now. They have the real deal here and it was delicious. She had the meatball app and it was very tasty too. The service was great, I believe Diane was her name and she was a one woman show on a Sunday afternoon and she was all over the place but she never forgot about us. We felt like we were the only table she had. On top of that there was a lady at the bar who had been waiting a long time for her pizza and without any complaining from her, Diane brought her a comp dessert for her patience. That was awesome! The place feels very authentic Chicago, very casual and laid back. I can't wait to go back for some feel dish!

Yelp
Most random pizza find I've ever had...but the most enjoyable! Great thin crust pizza, craft beer, and even got a visit from the owners husband with beer tastings! Bruce was a hoot and gave us some good advice for our travels! Great service and the vibe was low key and enjoyable!
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
Great deep dish pizza! Probably the best deep dish pizza in Florida! Call ahead to order but well worth it. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. I like the atmosphere as well.

Yelp
Drove to St. Augustine and, as a Chicago native, had to visit Hillary's Chicago Pizza for some authentic thin-crust pizza. If you're a fellow Chicagoan craving a taste of home in the form of delicious thin-crust pizza with flavorful sausage and fennel seeds, reminiscent of your local tavern, then this is a must-visit. In addition to thin crust, they serve deep-dish pizza and Italian beef, accompanied by an impressive selection of craft beers. Definitely worth the detour to St. Augustine!

Yelp
Came down for a yelp event and decided to eat here first. Super unassuming location but pizza really delivered. Ordered the monthly special brisket pie and the hot honey. Both delicious on the Chicago crust. Super crispy and tasty. They had Prosecco on tap which was so tasty. We also tried the dessert special cheesecakes made by a local chef. The chocolate covered key lime was legit. We will def be back. Love the place and the owners were so nice!!

Yelp
Best Chicago style pizza I've had in a while. The people were extremely kind and even went out of their way to help us navigate the area.
google avatar

Nate K.

Yelp
I got the "personal" chicago deep dish pizza and it was delicious, I loved it! Very flavorful, from the crisp crust, the sauce had a kick, and the cheese was generous. I'd definitely grab carryout again. I'd recommend calling ahead because it takes a while to cook. The dining area is also very small. I actually got 4 meals out the "personal" pizza. Great deal for $16.

Marissa G.

Yelp
This place was great! From the Chicago memorabilia on the walls to the delicious deep dish pizza, it is truly a gem! We met the owner while we were there, and she was amazing! Super friendly and personable. The overall atmosphere was super unique and fun, and definitely accurate to Chicago. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I visited Hillary's Chicago pizza in St. Augustine today. This place is small but very homey and the people are very friendly and welcoming. I ordered a Chicago deep dish pizza and was told that it was going to take 45 minutes to an hour. This is normal for deep dish that is done properly and from scratch. The pizza was very tasty with plenty of ingredients. The sauce had a little wine flavor, which is indicative of homemade sauce. The crust was amazing and the pie was cooked to perfection. They also have deep dish slices which take less time and may be more appropriate for a quick lunch. The thin crust from what I saw from others seemed very thin and crispy. The Chicago Italian beef also looked good. The place also offers wine and beer. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and the food was very good. If I'm in the area again I'll definitely get back to Hillary's Chicago Pizza.

Yelp
NG not anywhere what I expected . Pie was not Chicago by any means. Go to Chrystal burgers. Also sucks !!! TRUTH MY PEEPS

Yelp
Alls was great. Went before Chicago concert. Pizza was good. Waitress surprised me with a special Chicago staple. Thanks again..... we'll be back!!!!!

Yelp
$16 for a dry combo sandwich that took over 20 minutes to make. Bar tender with blue hair gave the excuse that the cook was only 1 person working. However a total of 4 customers in the restaurant made for a rough explanation. when I received the combo sandwich it had 1 bell pepper slice, 2 pieces of sport pepper and a carrot cube. Not exactly a Chicago combo from back in Bridgeport. I then told the blue haired bartender that my combo lacked peppers for $16 I was charged she pointed to the 2 peppers. If I can get a picture added to this review I will so that you can see the sad sandwich they call a Chicago combo. Real Chi town people have more pride in their hometown food. Dont expect Chicago food from this place, you will be disappointed! Al's beef on Taylor, we miss you!!!
google avatar

Mai N.

Yelp
The owner is sweet and you can feel the passion of his love for pizza. One the best slice I ever had. Great chill spot for great pizza and beer. Can't wait drive back out for Hillary's pizza.
google avatar

E C.

Yelp
Order ahead because it literally takes 60 minutes to make your deep dish pizza. But the wait is worth it and the pizza is pretty representative of the Chicago favorite. Service was very attentive. Selection of craft beers also good. Small interior but saw lots of people ordering pickup.
google avatar

Yelp
HCP is a laid back place to grab cool drink or some good food. Friendly staff, great environment, large meatballs. Would recommend.
google avatar

Rashia W.

Yelp
Amazing Chicago style food!! Love the deep dish mushroom pizza!! My Mother loves the Italian beef dipped with hot peppers.
google avatar

Yelp
** New business in St Augustine ** Family run and operated! Great add to the ancient city ... authentic Chicago style pizza is here at last! Deep dish not for you ... thin crust is available too! Menu options are expanding. Hours are expanding! Great service and a fun place to go hang, have a drink and TALK with friends while your pizza is made to order!!!

Linda R.

Yelp
Great tavern style pizza straight from Chicago - thin, crunchy, cracker crust. We also had a slice of the deep dish and that was good too. Hillary's actually rivals pizza places located in Chicago!
google avatar

Helaine R.

Yelp
We have eaten here many times and the pizzas are consistently delicious. We are a divided house. My husband prefers the deep dish and I prefer the tavern style so we take turns. Hillary's makes a delicious crust thick or thin. One server working and she took care of everyone. It was 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Almost every table was full. It is all decorated for Christmas right now and there are holiday lights and decorations. It looks very festive. If it wasn't for the waistline situation, we would eat here every week.

Yelp
Growing up and living in Chicago 48yrs of my life, you know when pizza is good and when it's not. Hillary's is Awesome!!! Their Chicago Thin Crust is amazing, and ingredients are on par. Their Chicago Deep Dish, sauce on top, blows the socks off of all the big Chicago pizza joints. Living now in Florida where the service and most food is average, Hillary's is a home run, a Cubs Home Run of Course.

Pam H.

Yelp
We are originally from the south side of Chicago and was thrilled when we found Hillary's. Have not had a good pizza in awhile so Saturday night was the night. Ordered a large pretzel to hold us over till the pizza came. 2 small pretzels with a small cup of cheese out of a larger tub. (Cold) Waited almost an hour for our pizza. Our waitress told us they were running behind because one of the ovens was not working. The owner told the next table they had an unusual amount of carry outs and that was the hold up. When we got our Chicago pizza, tomato sauce had no flavor, the toppings (onion, green pepper and sausage) were very sparse, and the flavor was not what it once was!
google avatar

Ed D.

Yelp
Pizza isn't bad. Sauce was good. We had a pan pizza. The crust was thinner than we typically got back in Chicago. Saw a thin crust come out looked pretty thin.
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
From Midwest Indiana and finally found the best pizza in Florida! Sausage pizza was our favorite. Definitely will be back!

Phyllis G.

Yelp
We went to Hillary's based on the star reviews we saw. It was the WORST pizza we have ever eaten. We spent $90 on 3 pizzas and one hot sandwich. The pizza had absolutely no taste. The sausage sandwich tasted and looked like a hot dog, dried out and unappealing. I don't know how reviewers could give them any stars other than a 1. They must not have good pizza where they come from.
google avatar

Sandi L.

Yelp
A real Chicago deep dish pie. Cozy little place, enjoy a local Florida beer on tap during the more than worth it wait.

Eric W.

Yelp
Being from Chicago, it's hard to find great pizza. Hillary has hit it out of the park with authentic Chicago Thin Crust Pizza. Come for the Pizza, Chicago Atmosphere, and a great pint of your favorite.
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
True Chicago thin crust pizza (I think people would be surprised to find out we actually prefer the thin crust to the famous deep dish we became known for). Hillary's was the high point of our St Augustine trip and we will happily drive the 2 plus hours to return. Crust was just right (nice and crispy and the required squares) . The sauce is a slightly sweeter sauce than you find in other states (and again perfect), and the sausage reminds me of my childhood pizza memories. Thank you for an amazing dinner.

Natalie T.

Yelp
Love this place! Great pizza, great beer and wine selection, great owners. Hillary knows what she's doing. The meatballs!!! So good. Delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
We tried Hillary's deep dish Chicago style pizza in the past by takeout, and it was amazing, so I was really excited to visit for a sit down meal at their location in the Barnes and Noble strip mall, where B&D used to be. Hillary's has their sign in place now so there should be no trouble locating them. Which is good news, because you're going to want to locate them, whether you dine in or take out. This time I tried the thin crust style pizza and let me tell you, it was amazing. Paper thin cornmeal crust with plenty of high-quality cheese and a delicious sauce, sheer perfection. I had originally planned to save half to take home for lunch the next day, but between my wife and I we finished it off with no regrets. We also tried the Chicago beef, which was excellent, and the pretzel with beer cheese. The only complaint is they need to give us more cheese sauce! Meatball sub with homemade meatballs-delicious. The artichoke dip was also excellent, but the star of the 'side' show is the creamy garlic dressing you can get with your salad. We did ask for more of that and it was happily provided. In fact, service was excellent overall, conducted with a smile and genuine welcome. Pros: Plenty of parking in the strip mall, and an extensive draft beer collection! Cons: You may gain weight, but you won't mind. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
*online order only We ordered the Chicago-thin & cheese personal deep dish. Although I usually love deep dish, if we were to go back we would just get the thin crust. The sauce on the deep dish was delicious... but the crust had absolutely NO flavor. :(
google avatar

Katie J.

Yelp
Went here with my parents when they came to visit. I got a pizza with vegan cheese, my dad got a meat lovers, and my mom got a deep dish. The two regular pizzas were horrible. The crust was like a cracker and not pizza dough. The sauce wasn't special either. The deep dish took so long that we had to take it to go an hour after we ordered it. I know deep dish takes a long time to cook, but this was excessive. The service was fine, the inside was very dingy and not clean. Have not and will not return.
google avatar

Melissa A.

Yelp
We love Chicago pizza because my husband's from there and misses his chi town pie. We found this delightful dive in St. Augustine. Our server was sweet and pleasant. The place is pretty small with few tables but the owner is from Chicago and knows Chicago pie! We ordered sausage pepperoni. The crust was dead on perfect; sauce a wee spicy but good. Would definitely return when our ChiTown bug itches!
google avatar

Susie D.

Yelp
True Chicago pizza!! Every part of our pizza was delicious! We had pan, and ooooo that crust!!!! We ordered a beef to share as an appetizer while our pizza cooked. The beef is on Turano roll! We met fellow Chicagoans and chatted about our favorite spots. The owner is awesome .. she really cares about making true Chicago food down in Florida. The restaurant is clean and plenty of seating. We WILL be back! 4 hrs drive and fun in St. Augustine .. can't get better than that!
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Went for the first time yesterday (9/7/24). Great find, good "deep dish" Chicago pies, more than ample amount of craft brews on tap! Met the owners, who were very nice and appreciated us dropping in. Jan at the bar was delightful as well! Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Hilarys Chisago style pizza. Finally made it out there If your from chicago and living in Jacksonville FL area. This place is the closest you'll get to Chicago style pizza and Italian beef.. I have tried all of them carbines, rosatis, moon pie etc. Forget about it. This is it.. 1) the Italian beef was spot on and the gardinara peppers slices it up. 2) my kids devoured the thin Chicago style pizza. Also spot on 3) the deep dish is a cross over of rosatis sauce but thankfully not as much. Lou malnatis crust without the thick sausage(which I actually love about lous). This is the closest you'll get to Chicago style pizza on fl .. The place is kinda small but you can order to go frozen and make it at home or half way cooked and finish it at home. The deep dish took 45 minutes to come out. So I got the Italian beef as a starter and the thin crust cans out in about 25 minutes..
google avatar

William G.

Yelp
Growing up in Chicago I know what a Chicago pizza is and this place isn't it .. I ordered 2 sausage & pepperoni pizzas thin crust. They only make a 12" by the way, which right there is a red flag. Of frozen crust usually , anyway the pizza was terrible! Crust tough. Hardly no toppings and dry and actually smelled bad! Being completely honest " I would have rather had a Dominos for 38 bucks..i would really not recommend this place to anyone for pizza The restaurant itself looks drab and very small with limited space..workers really do not have any dress code and give the impression of very unprofessional and makes one wonder if the kitchen is the Same...

Neil C.

Yelp
Place is small and order takes little longer to serve But food is awesome Waitress is friendly and helpful Very good experience

Kevin H.

Yelp
Excellent Chicago Style Pizza. Formerly from Southern Illinois, we visited Chicago and Champaign often and I love Chicago style pizza. While kids were at UIUC we frequented Papa Dels in Champaign. Son currently lives in Chicago and Giordanos and Puquads are our go tos. Hillary's ranks right up there. Not a lot of tables but nice size bar with local feel to it.

Jesus R.

Yelp
We were very excited to go and try hillaries chicago style pizza. We knew we had to wait an hour and that was not a problem at all. Our pizza did not look anything like any of the pictures of this page. After just one slice and the pizza did not make it into the to go home box. Please give it a try, I could have gone on day the kitchen staff was off on their game.
google avatar

Destiny B.

Yelp
This is an amazing business and I love the owner. The owner is very kindhearted and is open to all customers which is a plus. This business is like a second to me and I love coming here. I specifically love their pride, themed cheesecake!
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting Hillary's Chicago Pizza was a great experience. The pizzas really bring a piece of Chicago to St. Augustine. The pizza was fast and the best pizza I've eaten in a long time.

Roger Z.

Yelp
Being from Chicago, and recently have moved to Florida, we have been looking for authentic Chicago deep dish pizza. Hillary's did not disappoint!!!!!! Best deep dish this side of Chicago. Will be returning again and again. Thank you Hillary's for a delicious taste of home.
google avatar

Ava A.

Yelp
Would recomend!! Smaller place for sure and could easily pass it, but very good. We only tried one of the deep dish and a thin crust pizza. Now I am originally from New England area, so I know good pizza. I have never in my life had deep dish pizza, but this was great! Very filling and I enjoyed every bite. Only recommendation would be if a topping is chosen to include in the deep dish, then MORE of that topping should be added - we asked for pepperoni and felt we didn't have enough pepperoni, but still very good. The deep dish pizza is smaller in size but that is because it is filled so don't let the box deceive you. Would not recommend their flat/ thin crust pizza. The SELLING POINT IS THE DEEP DISH!!!
google avatar

Crystal O.

Yelp
Have you ever had the best pizza of your LIFE??? I did tonight and funny enough I got it included in my event ticket price! Hillary's Chicago Pizza was one of the caterers for a non profit fundraiser held at Manifest Distillery and their cook was someone I knew!!! Achef I took a class with and learned how to cook some popular Filipino dishes with! She's now with Hillary's Chicago Pizza turning out the BEST PIZZA EVER!!!!!! Funny- because that's why she jumped to work for this food truck- because of how gooooooodddd it was!!! Dah-mn! It was ah-mazing. I had a deep dish pizza with a spinach cheese, mushroom and more and I was in foodie heaven! Who knew I would go to a whiskey and bourbon event and have the best tasting pizza ever. I chatted up my chef a couple of times just enthralled in how good it was! PLEASE- run, don't walk to try this pizza!!!

Randy H.

Yelp
We were looking for a good Chicago style pizza and Hillary's didn't disappoint. Great place.

Yelp
Authentic Chicago thin crust pizza served Tavern Style (cut in squares for easy sharing). 25 beers on tap, also! Do yourself a favor and go and try it. As we say on the South Side of Chicago, "It's Da Best!"
