Hillgrove Tap

We had a fantastic experience here on a warm late-September evening. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the delicious food from the Oktoberfest menu. The only disruption was the occasional train passing by. The service was fast, and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. We'll definitely be back!

soooo... wanted this experience to be more but was sadly disappointed. We did the happy hour thing - marg and cosmo & a couple of pretzels. The marg was bad. Tasted like a sweet pre-mix with ice - sans tequila. The pretzels were bad as well. Hard instead of soft - and it came with a tasteless cheese. The highlight was the accompanying mustard. We ordered the fish & chips with fingers crossed - which turned out not to be enough. We probably should have prayed harder and more loudly. The breaded cod was Bad. The crust was thick and lacking - the cod minimal. Overall, a continuance of a tasteless experience. The fries were adequate - just not something I would ever go out to order. Lucky there was some left over cheese sauce and mustard from the two pretzels. On another note, the patio was nice and the constant trains passing would make any young train fan rather excited. The waiter was friendly and helpful.

Good food. Friendly staff. Nice selection of beer. I had a flight with four options. Staff is helpful. There weren't many people when we visited (2:30pm, Saturday). The space felt a bit cramped and odd layout. We were in a corner by an assorted of unused appliances and stuff shoved into the back. Food was good. We had a beer burger and blt. The bacon was super thick cut and delicious. Fries and onion rings were okay. The burger was good. Overall a fine experience. Nothing exceptional, but all good.

Highly recommend. Great spot. I recently made an error and ordered pickup from the wrong location. The staff was incredibly accommodating and had my order remade. I was already a regular customer, but this positive experience fully cemented Hillgrove Tap as a go-to spot for me and my family!

Wife and I come here for the wings but that skillet cookie is to die for. Great and vast selection of beer. Staff was friendly amd service was great.

We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner in the Hillgrove Tap event room- and it was perfect! Chris worked with us to coordinate our evening- he was so lovely, walked us through the menu options, and made sure everything went smoothly during our meal. He and his team made the night a breeze! The service was spectacular, food was delicious, and bar was so quick with drink orders! Highly recommend the event space for a future gathering! Thank you to our friends at Hillgrove Tap for such a wonderful night- we will see you again soon!

Hilltop Grove is a great place to eat! The service is friendly and the food delicious! That’s why we decided to host a party there a few weeks ago and Chris and his staff were amazing! Would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

I met a friend there because it was equal Distance for both of us. I'm In Indiana. She's in park ridge. We were greeted by the most awesome hostess ever. So friendly! I wish I could remember her name. It was an unusual name so I'm sure the owners know who I'm talking about. She was blonde and petite. And so friendly!!! We both ordered the steak salad which was excellent l!!! We asked for separate checks and the waiter was totally fine with that which is always nice. Great experience all around!!!! We will be back! And great location! Right in the heart of downtown western springs!

I loved everything about this place! It was recommended by a local and did not disappoint! I was able to find street parking nearby which was helpful and the town is so cute. Upon entering I was seated immediately. Ordered a burger and onion rings. Food came out quick and it was delicious! I highly recommend!

Yum, the steak sandwich and salad were delicious! The service is definitely 5 star and the relaxed neighborhood ambiance make this a 'go-to' place for us! Oh, but the veggies my wife ordered were so drenched with salty Worstchester and such, that she worried about her sodium intake...

1st time we came there was no open seating so we decided to come back another time. Fast forward to yesterday, and the inside was empty. It was night and day. The patio was open, but we opted for the inside with AC. I got the Sunday special margarita ($7.50). I also ordered the chicken sandwich. The American cheese doesn't pair well with the chicken. It's an odd combination. The bun was soaked in butter, which didn't help. I can't recommend this sandwich. The thin fries were good. As empty as it was, we didn't see our waitress much.

Normal bar food. Good service. Not a place for a conversation. So loud!!! For me, once and done.

Parking available. Nice atmosphere very comfortable for an afternoon lunch, casual date, or hanging out with friends. Plenty seating options inside from high tops, low tables, and other rooms options. Beer choices were plentiful and great. My burger was cooked perfectly and so were my sweet potato fries. Waiter was kind and it wasn't too crowded during my visit but nice menu options.

Apps are better than the main dishes. It's got decent local beers. If you're close by, I could see this being a place for you. I've been there several times and have never been wowed.

This was my first time here. My local family recommended we enjoy happy hour here. I was here with my local family including three toddlers for a 4-6 pm happy hour. We arrived around 4 pm. We parked across the street from the restaurant. This place is a sports bar/restaurant. We opted to be seated in the rear room on the front window with a view of the sidewalk. I enjoyed my lemon drop martini and Cosmopolitan for $6.75 each or a total of $13.50. We shared and enjoyed the pretzel for $5 and the onion rings. I also enjoyed the Hillgrove sliders for $10. I ended my dinner with a draft Modelo for $4.50. Leo V. served our table very well considering we had three toddlers. Leo also comped the toddlers with push up sherbet pops for dessert. My total bill was $150 excluding gratuity. We all agreed we will continue to return here for happy hour.

I came here because we really love the burgers and honestly the staff. Buttttt I had a Prosecco and a glass of water as soon as I dipped on the water it had a very funny taste and immediately I ran to bathroom to throw up. In all honesty I think it was the ice cubes that tasted moldy and lead to the incident, my friend had the same reaction. Aldo. the music was not great and after asking if it could be switched up a bit since there were many negative opinions at the bar, no changes were made. This has been a go to for me for a while but today left me very disappointed.

Stopped in for the first time. Wait staff had a great attitude/ sense of humor, reasonable prices, good selection of beers, and the sausage platter was excellent!

Nice neighborhood spot to sit and relax and grab something to eat. They have a nice beer and drink selection and some daily specials. We started with the nachos which were so good! The portion was huge and they came out hot with lots of toppings. Love that they use real cheese rather than cheese sauce. We added the bbq pork which tasted good on its own but we did not care for it on the nachos as the flavors did not mesh. I had the chicken avocado sandwich which was not very good but the sweet potato fries were great- hot and crispy! My friend had the grilled cheese and loved it. Great service as well!

Came here while in the area. We had a couple drinks and also tried their sliders, pretzel, & sweet potato fries. All was very tasty! The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; they came with a sugar cinnamon butter, which was great on them. We sat at the bar and had 2 different bartenders (due to shift change). Both bartenders were very friendly and attentive. Some of the best service we've had in a while! For sure will be back to try more!

Good location right in downtown Western Springs. The pretzel appetizer was good but our entrees (burger and tacos) were average at best. The burger was way overcooked and the tacos just didn't have much taste. The beer selection and specials are pretty good. Overall prices are fair. I was there a few nights ago and Jen took care of me and my friends and made our night. She's always on top of things and always made sure we had everything we needed! This girl is awesome and I highly recommend!!!!

Really appreciated the beer selection. Many local options. Tired of Chicago bars that take the beer distributors standard selection.

Service was great and the food was delicious, specially the dessert. We got the chocolate brownie banana bread pudding, boy was it delicious!! We will definitely come back for more daily specials.

Lovely place to day drink, both indoors and outside. Staff is fantastic- very helpful and lots of fun. What we had to drink was wonderful and the apps are sooooo yummy!

Menu is boring and bland, needs a revamp. Could be a better neighborhood gem with a little more variety of food or menu change up.

Popped in here to meet my hubby for a quick lunch! I had the fish tacos and jalapeño cucumber margarita/ sooo good! My hubby ordered the Hillgrove burger, double. Said it was delish. Great fries too. Our server was sweet. Will be back for sure. Pretty good daily specials as well!

Nice outdoor seating, it's a cute neighborhood restaurant.....I had the fish tacos and my colleague had the Cobb salad. Both were good!

Hillgrove Tap is an awesome place to have a party. A couple of weeks ago we had a "Sprinkle" for my daughter and it was wonderful! The food was delicious and the staff was friendly and so helpful. A big shout out to Nora McKenna who is amazing as a host and was great to work with. She helped with everything before the event and was hands on at the event. She was such a joy to work with and she made sure everything went smoothly. Thank you for making my daughter's "Sprinkle" such a success. I now know why Hillgrove Tap is one of her favorite restaurants. Donna S

I do not recommend getting the server Nora m, when we sat down she gave us a a glare, then she refused to give us a kids menu when we are innocent kids. After all this, she would not give us separate checks, we did not have enough cash because some planed to pay with card, which she gave us a lecture for and stormed off slamming separate checks on the table. Lastly she didn't thank us for dinning.

Went with a group of 9, two of us got wings. The Buffalo sauce tasted like barbecue sauce and the wings tasted baked. Could only eat a couple wings. Got a caesar salad and it wasn't anything special. Other dishes, people liked, burgers and kids meals. Prices are high for what you get. Server was awesome.

My son wanted to go out and get a cheeseburger before school started tomorrow. This is within walking distance and reviews were good. We were sorely disappointed. Our server was very nice and I like the outdoor patio, but that's all that was good. I ordered the fish tacos. After seeing the pictures online, I was excited for this. Imagine my surprise when I get 3 fish sticks on tortillas with barely any slaw. There was no taste to them either. I was so disappointed. My son ordered his cheeseburger with bacon. I told the waiter a plain cheeseburger with bacon, but he must not have heard me because it came out with everything on it. Oh well, I scraped what I could off. Again though, no salt on the undercooked fries. My husband got the avocado salad. You would think with avocado being the main component of the salad they would make sure that they used a great avocado, but no. They used an avocado not even close to being ripe. It was so hard, my husband couldn't even eat it. We also ordered the Mac and cheese with bacon and green onions. Cooking 101, you need to salt the pasta water. This clearly was not and it left you with tasteless Mac and cheese. It was awful. It's like the cook is allergic to salt. They also must serve diet rite products because it tasted awful. Overall, a horrible experience for what was supposed to be a nice night out before school starts. I don't believe we will ever be back even though it's so close. Too many better options around to waste my money here.

Never so disappointed. Came in on Sunday, 10/8. A waiter poured me a beer, no one came over 10 - 15 minutes later. I left a $ 5 & walked out. Really disappointed, being my home town.

Service is always great! Best fries in the area, great beer selection, and an even better happy hour. The patio can get a bit noisy by the train, but they have umbrellas for shade, and the servers are very accommodating out there. I've gone a million times, and I'll be sure to go back even more.

I have tried to support and like Hillgrove Tap, but the inconsistent food and lack of service has done me in. The greasy food and tasteless salads are so below average that I am stunned this place has survived this long. Cocktails are decent one visit and horrible the next. I wish the owner would visit Fuller's in Hinsdale and take notes. Seriously. The difference is night and day! Western Springs deserves better!

Updating my previous review. Ordered a simple takeout meal with Ruben sandwiches with fries and the Hillgrove cheeseburger. Do NOT order the Hillgrove burger as it was tasteless and super thin meat. The menu doesn't say what type of meat is used in the burger so you could tell it's cheap quality. Tasted like it came straight from the freezer. Super disappointed that a tap house doesn't have a good classic burger. Ruben sandwich was ok but not enough sauce on them and fries were not crispy. Not sure if it's under new management or a new cook but quality went down.

Hello my Foodzies. Last night on the suggestion of Matt Elsey one of my many Foodzies we traveled to Western Springs to Hillgrove Tap located at 800 Hillgrove Ave. Hillgrove tap is an upscale sports bar and restaurant. It has a classy bar atmosphere. The staff is warm and friendly. I met the owner Chris, he was very personable and friendly. Our server Andy was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We dined with my son and daughter-in law. We started our meal with a huge made in house pretzel with hot cheese and deli mustard. The outside was firm and the interior was soft . With a sprinkle of sea salt it was awesome. We also had the Hillgrove poutine, waffle fries, milk-braised pork shoulder, gravy, cheese curd & scallions. WOW ! That was great. Pork shoulder was juicy and tender the highlight of the dish was the cheese curds. It ha a mozzarella texture but a little sweeter. For our meal we had the Hillgrove double cheese burger, very flavorful and with the pretzel bun made every bite delicious. Next was the Beer cheeseburger with smoked gouda beer cheese, crispy onions & grain mustard on a pretzel roll and succulent burger. Each burger came with seasoned fries. On to the Steak sandwich grilled flat iron steak, garlic toasted french baguette, sautéed red pepper, red onion, jalapeño, lettuce & melted jack cheese, another tasty morsel the jalapeños gave it a nice kick but was not over powering the steak was tender and seasoned perfectly. Last was the Linguine scampi linguine tossed with jumbo shrimp, asparagus, garlic, lemon & white wine sauce. The shrimp were nice size and grill excellently, the sauce was light and with the red pepper flakes outstanding. All in all a great time. With great people enjoying awesome food. I give this restaurant 5 stars. Try it out and let me know what you think. Ciao Ciao for now.

Great food and staff! Beef and chicken burgers are a must have! They have indoor and front outdoor dining. Location has free street parking. Across a Metra station so expect loud trains going by periodically.

I can't believe I have not left a review! I've been coming here for years! I really appreciate the beer selection and the well staffed team. They are friendly and helpful and patient. Especially Nora, Jeanette(bartender) and Gordon. Gordon is the Beer Master!! They always have a variety of options with the daily specials and happy hour. My favorite is the 'seared ahi tuna salad, with watermelon and arugula', the skillet cookie and the shrimp.

Great bite to eat on a busy Monday night! This place sure had quick service and the food was Delish! I had the grilled chicken sandwich and it was good, others had the Mac and cheese that looked great as well as the chicken sandwich. By the end of the meal everything was gone. For the 5 of us the bill was not too expensive, everything thing is these days lol, when I'm in the area I'll make another visit!

Appetizers were delicious, main course was phenomenal, and the desserts were tasty. We ordered many different items, each one better than the next. Highly recommend!

This is only a first review; I picked a tough night. I stopped in on Super Bowl Sunday. Not a larger crowd or a spectacular game. The beer selection was good, I had the brat and fries which was decent. The barkeep was young and anxious to help. I will stop back in on a Friday night when the weather breaks and report back....

I had an absolutely horrible experience here today. I ordered the chicken broccalini. As I was eating it, I felt something hard and sharp on my tongue. I took it out and it was a porcelain sharp piece! My waiter got the manager who told me it was a piece of the broken gravy boat! He gave us free dessert. This is totally unacceptable!! I wish I would have taken a picture. I will never eat here again!!

Stopped by for lunch yesterday - first time customers. It was very, very nice with beautiful flowers surrounding the outdoor seating. Tried the Poutine appetizer as suggested by Angie; our waitress. It was awesome! - And so was she! Angie is very personable and knowledgeable on the menu. We thoroughly enjoyed it, highly recommend it, and will definitely be back! Don't forget to ask for Angie!

I had a small gathering in their private room for 30 people on a sunday and it was great. The planning was super easy and Nora was very helpful and flexible. The day of the event, the staff was very attentive and catering. They brought out extra food and were flexible with guests who had allergies. We ordered salad, pasta and chicken parm and everything was very good. I highly recommend!

I was so excited to try out this place. I drive past here every day on my way to work, and am so pleased to see it consistently busy no matter when I drive by. We came here on a frigid Saturday night, and it was pretty packed, but we were seated in about 5 minutes. There was an obvious table for 2 right near the door, but since it would be cold with the door opening and closing, they waited until something else opened up. I thought that was a nice thought, since a person would probably end up being miserable and wanting to move shortly after sitting there. Once seated we were given a beer/cocktail and food menu. The food is jazzier bar food. They have a decent tap beer list, and even more in bottles and cans to order. There are definitely other bars close by that have way more on tap, but there was enough variety here to be interesting. My sis and I both got a beer flight- 3 samples for $8 of any of the on-tap beers. They came out shortly after on a beer-sample paddle, which had the space for 4 beers. They even had an empty 4th glass in the paddle. Why can't you just sell 4 samples then?? That was strange to me. For food, we tried their pulled pork nachos, and we each had a burger. The nachos were really good, with a nice balance of all ingredients. The actual app is kind of small for the price ($10), but it was enough for both of us to share (and finish) until our burgers came. The burgers come in single and double patty size. We both got singles, and the patty is still a pretty decent thickness overall- not paper-thin like you might get at steak n shake or something. The burger had good flavor, the fries were hot and fresh, but maybe a little bland? I was able to take half the meal home by the end though and was grateful for leftovers the next day. Overall, I had a good time and would like to go back.

HT is our go to pub. Food is always good. Wraps and sandwiches are all good. The staff is casual and friendly and just wants to help you enjoy your visit. Good happy hour till 6. Always good beer specials. Just go here!

Chose to stop in here for a quick drink and bite. It was not crowded, rather surprising for a Saturday. The service, food and ambience were all just average. It was ok for what it was but I was annoyed that I chose to spend my 50 dollars here.

I keep coming back for more. Food is bomb, drinks are strong, and the staff is friendly. What more could you want?

First time here and it was barely ok. Stopped for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and plenty of TVs. Had a couple martinis which were good. We had their basic burger and I think it was some type of beer burger on a pretzel bun. They never asked how we wanted it cooked and came out in like 5 minutes. Now I know why, the burger patty was paper thin. However it was 3 inches thick with the lettuce tomato and onion. Disappointing burger. Good beer selection though. Nice atmosphere.
