Where to Pick U-Pick Apples at Farms and Apple Orchards in the North Georgia Mountains - Eater Atlanta

"This northeast Georgia farm, just over an hour north of Atlanta, features apple picking, a farm bakery, and playgrounds and games for the kids. There’s even a farm train ride on the weekends and a corn maize. Adventurous kids will also enjoy stopping by the gem mine and hanging out with Miner Jim and Donkey or jumping onto a classic farm hayride. Hillside Orchard includes a full farmstead store filled with freshly picked apples, local jams and jellies, vinegars, and sauces. U-pick is also available, which is limited for apples this year due to the late-spring freeze. Follow on Facebook for updates." - Robbie Medwed

Stumbled upon this quant apple orchard just south of Clayton,GA while on our way to Clayton, GA for a foxfire festival. We were going to look for one anyway on our way back home but this was a very nice surprise. The staff was very polite and social in pointing out their great deals on which bag to fill up with a variety of apples of your choice, plus finding the apple butter and other varieties of goodies. Recommend, if you're ever in the area, to stop & be delighted with all the delicious goodness!🍎🍎👍

The fact that there were only two vehicles in the parking lot on a Saturday at 1:00 p.m. should have told us everything we needed to know. And as it turns out, the vehicles belonged to the employees. Overall impression was of a rundown and uncared about group of buildings. We went into the store, and there were two people behind the counter playing on their phones. We said hello, and never even received a glance. We wandered around looking at the shelves. They did have lots of items amongst the shelves, but many were covered in dust, which just added to the feeling that the place was not cared for. We purchased some strawberry jam, and when we were checking out we asked about the goats and if we could see them. We were told they don't allow people to see the goats anymore, which is contradictory to what the website says. Aside from that small interaction, and giving us our change, they went back to their phones and never acknowledged us again.

We've been here a couple of times and what a laid back place. We love it !! The selection of sauces and jams are amazing...the fritters are amazing... Also bought some hot sauce and salad dressing in Maggie Valley only to find out it was made at Hillside Orchard. EVEN in Pigeon Forge at the 3 Bears store...they also had Hillside Orchard jams and such. You may not know you've tried their products but if you live in the south....you probably have. We'll stop there every time now on our way to vacation in the mountains.

We purchased 10 fried pies from them. They looked delicious, but when we got back with them, they tasted horrible. We got a variety of flavors, so it wasn't just one kind. We ended up throwing them away. Don't waste your money.

Do not waste your time. Drove 2 hours to be told that the “orchard” doesn’t have enough apples to pick. Why couldn’t that have been on your website? What an idea!!!? The place is a run down joke. The workers in the store are all too busy playing games on their phone to help you. Then when you order something they literally take 10 min to put things in a bag. Would never recommend. Drive to Mercier. It’s the absolute best.

LOVE their fresh apple cider donuts! So fun for kids of all ages, many different types of apples to choose from, live music and cute store.

Those poor poor animals! :( I’ve never felt compelled to leave a negative review until now. Visiting from out of town we went to feed the animals and were met with emaciated animals with no enrichment. The rabbits were directly in the sun with nothing in their filthy cages but pellets and hot water. The cows hips were sticking out and the donkey had an eye infection. Turkeys with maimed feathers and horrendous never been cleaned enclosures. Someone PLEASE save these animals. :( Do not give this place your money!!!!!!!

Great farm experience! I took my nephew, and he played on the playground, picked blackberries, and fed the goats. They have an awesome shop and a lot to do on the farm. Everyone there was super nice and helpful.

Yelp
We visited the farm about a a week ago as a school field trip. We came again about a week later as a family day. The farm and employees are absolutely amazing and kind. The store was a highlight because it had Whole Foods, merchandise, bathroom with changing tables etc. I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old, so those things are important. We were able to ride the hay ride today and walk the corn maze. The farm is pretty big and there's a-lot to enjoy and site see. This will be our go -to until season ends. Family friendly and affordable. Also, I e noticed people saying the location isn't correct. Don't go by Yelp. The address is 18 Sorghum Mill Dr Lakemont GA, 30552 United States

Yelp
Yelp has the map totally wrong. This place is not open as advertised. Th only thing opens is the "country store". Possibly during the fall?? We did pick blackberries. Rows of them as well as blueberries and muscadines when in season. They do serve Mayfield Ice cream

Yelp
Information is totally wrong. There is no farm here and it's not open on Saturdays. We came here excited to see the animals and get some local produce but instead we were taken to a office site. The number also takes you to office not the farm.

Yelp
Quaint country farmers market. A fun road trip spot. The staff was sweet and hospitable. We bought what appeared to be home printed post cards and a variety of ciders and jams. So far we have only tried the rum apple butter. It was good, but nothing too special. Paired with Irish butter on toast made a nice breakfast. If you're driving through Tiger, try to make a stop here!

Yelp
Not only does Hillside Orchard Farms make, imho, the best jams & jellies, like Grandmoms, the customer service is outstanding. I've been a customer for several yaers. Only once was there a mixup in in the order which Hillside immediately resent the order free of charge. More recently, fed ex claimed to deliver my order which I never recieved. Here again Hillside stepped up resending the order gratis. The absolute best raspberry jelly I've ever tasted. The blackberry is the best commercial jelly I ever tried. I order two to three times a year for all my jellies. If you like grape you should try the grapiest jelly there is, Muscadine, awesome.

Yelp
Went on a field trip with a group of 5 yr olds and there was plenty for them to see and do. Mining for gems, feeding goats and seeing other animals, a hay ride, large playgrounds and a corn maze. There's also a large country store as well as fresh baked goods. They produce several products on site for sell, from jellies to salsa. Its not a bad way to kill a few hours with the kids.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place! I took my boyfriend here last fall during their special Fall Festival sale. Prices were extremely reasonable - even affordable for college students - but everything was significantly discounted and I would have probably bought half of what I did if I visited on a different weekend. Come here for your pumpkins! I paid less than the local grocery or Walmart and got ones twice as big and healthy looking. All the sauces, breads, etc. that we got or sampled were excellent. I've never seen so many different hot sauces! I picked up a mango habanero, a pineapple one, and some bottle called The Ugly Pug in honor of my dog :) Corn maze took a while to wander through, and it was a bit pricey but you get ice cream at the end so that makes it hard to complain. Nice, family-run feel, farm animals seemed clean and well taken care of, and lots of kid friendly sights and activities if that's down your alley. Check ahead for sale days - it's worth the drive!

Yelp
What a find! We picked fresh blackberries, visited and fed the farm animals (goats, pigs, donkeys, rabbits, chickens, guineas) and enjoyed a delicious peach slushy. My partner and I initially stopped to grab the blackberries but ended up spending much more time here than we expected. It is quite charming and the lady that worked in the general store was so lovely. So pleased we stopped by- they run a nice little operation. Will definitely return next time we're in town!!!

Yelp
The baked goods were absolutely amazing! They also have yummy peach or apple smoothies or ice cream and very good pickled veges! The staff was very friendly and although we didn't get to explore much, we would return let alone for the baked goods and treats!

Yelp
Tito brought his family to Hillside Orchard while passing through Clayton. We were excited to pick apples for the first time. We get inside and order 2 "pecks" of U pick apples. The young girl behind the counter, with an expressionless face, hands us 2 bags and says nothing. Not it was pretty obvious where the apple orchard was (beside the parking lot), but we had no clue if there were certain rows that were ready to pick, if some rows weren't ready, what variety was where, etc. So i asked the girl what variety she recommended and what varieties they had. Again, with a blank stare she said "there are markers in front of the rows, there is also a field across the road you can pick from". Geez, glad Tito asked because he would not have known about the orchard across the road! We make our way to the orchard closest to us and sure enough there is 1 single apple variety marker and it is only on 1 of say 15 rows. So i guess all 15 rows are the same? We get through picking "some kind of apple" and go inside. Now the kids were not exactly on their best behavior, but the people inside just stared and rolled their eyes. Not a friendly staff and not helpful at all! As usual with Tito's reviews, I am upfront and brutally honest in hopes that business establishments like this one can learn from their mistakes. If you do happen to make your way to Hillside Orchard farms, beware of staff who act completely miserable and offers no help! Our visit was last month so maybe things have changed, i can only hope so. If you still choose to go, tell em Tito sent ya.

Yelp
Love this place! Not only do they sell good food, but they also manufacture my favorite salsa, AUSSOM SALSA! The staff work well with other businesses and really listen to what the client has to say. We really appreciate Hillside Orchards!
