Hillstone Restaurant at Bal Harbour

I was craving something sweet and was pleasantly surprised by how this delicious Tres Leches!!! I'm still thinking about it ... I don't care how full you are, you MUST order this dessert after your main course. Thank me later

We stopped here for lunch, Hillstone is a fabulous Miami gem. We got the tuna Tatar, which I highly recommend as the appetizer, and a chicken Caesar salad, with the traditional hamburger, which was phenomenal! This place is glitzy and flashy, so make sure you’re shining too!

I've had the pleasure of dining at Hillstone several times, and each visit has been consistently delightful. The atmosphere exudes a relaxed vibe, allowing guests to unwind while enjoying the charming surroundings of the nearby shops. The staff is always welcoming and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. Now, let's talk about the food – it's simply outstanding. One of my favorite items from the menu is the deviled eggs. I'm typically not a fan of eggs, but Hillstone's version is truly exceptional. The French Dip Au Jus is also a standout, but my absolute favorite is the Ding's Crispy Chicken Sandwich. It's so flavorful that it never fails to impress. And if I'm watching my carb intake, I opt for the sandwich without the bread, which is just as satisfying. Additionally, the spicy and creamy coleslaw and tabbouleh with lemon vinaigrette sides always complement the meal perfectly. With such a fantastic dining experience, I'm already looking forward to my next visit and trying out something new from the menu!

The best burgers I have ever eaten! I and my husband have to drive here about 45-60 minutes, but it definitely worth it! The atmosphere is super nice, the service is excellent.

Located in the beautiful Bal Harbour area, Hillstone is a delightful spot for those craving American food and Japanese cuisine. My lunch experience began with a fresh and satisfying spicy tuna roll paired with a perfectly crafted spicy margarita cocktail, setting the tone for an enjoyable meal. The prime center cut filet stole the show, cooked to my desired temperature and expertly seasoned. While the creamy polenta didn't quite win me over, the steamed broccoli provided a refreshing and well-balanced side. Overall, Hillstone at Bal Harbour offers a good dining experience with its delicious offering support .

Inside the exclusive Bal Harbour Mall you find this excellent American restaurant with well prepared signature dishes like French Dip Au Jus and Carolina Barbecue Beef Ribs. Desserts are always worth trying: Hot Fudge Sundae or Tres Leches. Service is outstanding and the ambiance is very classy. Highly recommended!

Houstons in Aventura is hands down one of the best restaurants in South FL. So, we were excited to try Hilstone in Bal Harbour, thinking it would be a comparable experience. 🫤 It was a really terrible experience, we will never go back. I did find a beer I liked, even if I could only order 1 lol 1. Food: The spinach artichoke dip was cold and not enjoyable. The sushi was alright, I guess. I wasn't a fan of the white rice paper. Over all meh, just not impressed. 2. The service is what REALLY killed it for us. We sat at a table behind the bar today. The server seemed bothered initially and had an attitude when he approached the table. He eventually came over and took our drink and appetizer order and then never returned. Didn't ask how things were, never returned so I could reorder a beer. We had to wait 45 minutes and then flag someone down to give us our check and leave. Overall, it was just a horrible experience with the waiter. 3. Atmosphere: very bright and comfortable

Had no idea there was a millstone at the bal harbor shops! I was a big fan of the one in the gables, so we decided to eat here. Very clean inside, we didn't have a reservation, they told us there would be a 20 minute wait but they took us before. They may have been understaffed, because there were open tables and they weren't sitting us. we had to point out the empty table to the hostess. that part was annoying. but the food was delicious and made up for it! our waitress was very kind. she helped answer all our questions and helped us select our meal. In the end we ordered: cashew and kale salad- crunchy, refreshing, asian tasting salad with cashew, onion, kale and a delicious dressing shrimp and coconut sushi roll- huge slices but filled with big shrimp and a wave of coconut taste hits you at the last second with all the coconut flakes. get a side of their spicy mayo to dip Ding's crispy chicken sandwich- i have been waiting to try this! the chicken was so juicy, not too oily. paired with a delicious slaw, tomato, cheese and a buttery soft brioche bun. it was hugeeee (three big pieces). came with shoestring fries that were just okay.

We had dinner reservations last evening at Hillstone at Bal Harbor. We did early shopping and were hungry. We drove up to the valet service rather than spending time looking for a parking spot in the garage on a busy Saturday. The ambiance is upscale casual in a modern glass and wood decor on the second floor. I liked the glass elevator overlooking the Bal Harbor mall with the waterfalls and foliage. We looked at the menu but didn't see very much that appealed to us. It seemed to be more sushi and fish items. Near the bottom of the menu, we saw French Dip Au Jus with fries, and we both ordered it. It was good but not outstanding. Our server was Joseph, and he was friendly and attentive. Our water glasses were not kept full, and we had to ask for water refills. The prices were high but the quality didn't match. Hillstone is part of the Houston restaurant chain, and some of their food items are similar. We always enjoy Houston's. This was our first time at a Hillstone restaurant. Would we come back? Not sure.

We went to celebrate our birthdays! Hillstone is one of favorite restaurants, we love the menu , it's a classic for us. Isabel was our server and she was great! Food was delicious , we order the spinach, artichoke deep YUMMY...my mom and I ordered the steak to share , my sister had the burger and of course we had drinks , everything was perfect!!! Ambience is always chick and trendy.

Hillstone is always very consistent in their food and service. Always top notch. My friend was craving their tres leches cake so we stopped by. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich which comes cut into 3 pieces, and my friend ordered the ribs. I traded one part of my sandwich for some of his ribs. The ribs were my favorite. They were phenomenal. Great taste and very tender. The ambiance can sometimes be loud. We ended up moving tables because the guy next to us was loud on his cell phone, but the staff were very accommodating and happy to seat us a little further away from the loud mouth.

My husband and started a tradition of going to Hillstone every New Year's Eve when we got married 5 years ago because this is where we had our first date nearly 10 years ago. We normally visit the location in Coral Gables, but this year we decided to go to the Bal Harbor one since I'm pregnant and it's closer to our place. This was a special New Year's Eve. The food at this location was just ok. Not nearly as good as the other one. I started to get sick mid meal, so we decided to take our dessert, the tres leches, to go. Being pregnant I've been looking forward to this dessert for a while so I was ready to dig in. As my husband and I took our bites, there were crunchy bits in it. We both spit it out to find egg shells in the cake. So disgusting. I've never had this happen in coral gables. Since we were already home and it was nearly midnight, we couldn't let the restaurant know. I'm disappointed, upset, and grossed out about this. For the price of the meal to be so mid, and for the dessert to be overlooked and mishandled like this, is just super disappointing. We also used a gift card that was given to us to pay, I'm sorry it went to waste here. We won't be back.

Hillstone is all about consistency!! Located in the prestige bal harbour shops the food here never disappoints!! The sushi here is fresh every time & the prime filet is superior, they cook it to perfect every time! For dessert we love their sundae it is the perfect way to end the meal

This is not your normal Hillstone experience! The Menu is not the same as what you expect! Big disappointment from the wine and drink menu to the fries not even the same. What tops the experience off to be even worse was the service. Young kids working here that have no work ethic or ability to communicate. Do these look like Houston shoe string fries?? The best wine they had was Dao... which is so bad. The famous bbq ribs come with a mustard rub??

The best part about Hillstone is the sushi. It's amazing. Probably the best thing on the menu. This location isn't as good as Houston down the street because they don't have that Woodfire grill and just the food just doesn't taste the same broccoli seems to always be overcooked or undercooked at this location they try to rush you a little bit so they can turn the tables over. They even have them manager swing by with the check and almost stand around waiting for you to pay overall it's good I would make a reservation. They don't have any outside seating. It's located in Bal Harbor shop, which is nice.

There's always something so relaxing about coming to Hillstone. Every time I come, the music, the atmosphere, the great service, the food, it's all always on point and it really sets the tone for the evening.

Disgusting unfair and unbelievable. Went there with my girlfriend my two baby cousins. I am a very successful businessman. I have a lot of money and I was gonna order a lot of things and leave a very substantial tip, but before I could even get my food, they kicked us out for having kids. This is unbelievable. I am so appalled and disgusted with the service. This is absolutely uncanny and I would go anywhere else but this place and they should close it down. It's not fair and it also looked very dirty and the food is way overpriced. I'd rather go to the Breakers for lunch or the country club for dinner. Unbelievable.

Very disappointed! Never going back, rude manager, we sat at a table for 4 , 3 adults and 2 kids, when they brought the kids food to the table - the manager walked over and send back the food to the kitchen saying that we need to get up and wait for a bigger table to be available while the food was getting cold and the kids were watching all this not understanding what is happening! This manager should be fired because that is not how you treat your customers!!!

Started out with a refreshing Jackrabbit, which was tasty. I ordered the shrimp Louie salad. Cold and perfect size for lunch. The service was friendly and fast. We sat inside since it was so hot outdoors. They do have outdoor seating, which I bet is lovely during cooler weather.

I am myself probably the biggest Hillstone fan I know, but this location managed to be the most underwhelming that my spouse and I have ever encountered. The food quality was ok, but somehow wasn't quite up to par with what we have experienced in LA, Dallas, and NYC. But what really made it horrible was the atmosphere. It was excruciatingly loud, mostly as a result of roughly 30% of the patrons completely ignoring the Hillstone website's advice and bringing their toddlers and small children in tow to the restaurant. We visited on a Sunday afternoon which probably contributed to this, but why is it that only people in Miami seem to totally disregard that young children aren't really all that welcome at Hillstone restaurants? Service was good otherwise, but we won't be back. Do yourself a favor and head downstairs to Carpaccio Restaurant instead. I counted zero screaming babies the previous day, and the seafood was outstanding.

MAKE A RESERVATION!! Always excellent service,drinks & food. We LOVE their NY STRIP and salads. Whenever we've gone everyone's meal was perfect.

Not impressed with the service. The food took forever to get. Instead of leaving a pitcher of water at the table, we would have to keep asking for water and it took long to refill. The food was good but overly priced for what it was. In short, first and last time here. I gave it a 3 star rating because the food did taste good, but I feel that the food is pretty much like dining at Cheesecake Factory and the portions there are much more generous and not as highly priced.

The good: Food was delicious, we had a few appetizers and no one was disappointed. The artichoke dip was amazing. Wouldn't recommend the sushi app, although it was delicious the portion was tiny, you would need to order a few of them if you have a big group. The bad: felt like they were trying to hard to be an upscale place, nothing about the ambiance felt upscale, but yet they have a certain dress code they want you to abide by which is ridiculous, it's Miami, let people dress how they want to dress. The bartender seemed way off when we sat at the bar waiting for our table to be ready, the guy have me sometime else's beer and screwed up my other friend's drink. Whatever, mistakes happen, not a big deal overall. Summary: again the food didn't disappoint (see pics) but have to take off two stars mainly because of the dress code and anti children policy (I don't have kids but feel bad that they don't let you in with strollers and don't offer high chairs for kids, clearly they don't like kids dining there).

Subpar, honestly this restaurant is extremely over hyped. The service was great, but the food is not worth the money. Good place to get drinks, eh place to eat.

When you take the family for a special treat. Visit the bar and ask for Stella for the best service. Whole pot of warm chocolate ganache to top the delicious creamy vanilla ice cream.

Always been a fan of Houston's, we decided to stop in while shopping at Bal Harbour. Ambience is great and full of natural lighting. Seating was a bit of a drag but expected during lunch. Got the ribs, they were whatever. Very mediocre, non attentive, and the food just didn't have the amount of care we are used to getting from them. Nevertheless highly doubt we will be returning to this location anytime soon.

Disgusted. We are long time Surfside residents (+40 years) and love to go to the shops and will often sit at the bar at Hillstone for a drink or 2 and a meal. Tonight, the level of discrimination from Tanisha Archer one of the "managers" was appalling and downright disgusting. She should be fired. She was quick to argue with us about including my niece in a very discrete, celebratory dinner (via a phone call; she is out of the city at college). She demanded we put headphones on as per the restaurant policy, so as to not disrupt other patrons. All the while her tacky display of "managerial skills" (hahaha) were at an all time disgusting low. Meanwhile, a noisy, disruptive toddler was banging on my seat and playing with the restaurant window blinds next to me repeatedly (as a mom of 3 children, no, I did not complain and all but blocked out the disruption until Tanisha began to harass us) and she didn't say a word to them!! I wonder why?? Maybe we didn't fit the bill of what was "acceptable behavior" or "acceptable patrons" of this sub par establishment. She drove us out of the restaurant and ruined our celebratory dinner completely. (Which was FINE because we ended up at Makoto, a restaurant with way more class than she could ever display; the food is above and beyond at Makoto so 100% go there above Hillstone). This is an example of the level of "customer service" (haha) our society has reached. As if. It's Hillstone for crying out loud (same family of restaurants as Houston's in NMB. Go there, you'll definitely get better service). Save your time (and money!!) and go to a much FINER and CLASSIER restaurant than this at the shops. This is NOT family or culturally friendly restaurant at all. Avoid at all costs!! All further complaints will be discussed with corporate. Worst customer care ever. They should be ashamed. TANISHA SHOULD BE ASHAMED and fired!

Favorite restaurant in Miami for years, one disappointing point yesterday, they stopped to carry the grilled artichokes in Bal Harbour location ....please .. bring it back !

I love this place their ceaser salad is delicious. I can eat that without anything else. I love their French fries and the chicken sandwich. It's rather big so it can be shared. The ice cream sundae is yummy if you want to walk on the wild side. I like that they serve sodas in the bottle. The service is great just have to make a reservation if you plan on going for dinner.

I really wish this weren't the case because I feel like Hillstone is such a great classic, but this last visit was just bla. Service was great, there was always someone around which is rare these days. But the food is just not there. Artichoke dip - don't waste your money. Completely tasteless. Chips are good. Spicy tuna roll - just ok. And much rice though!! Tuna tartare - can't go wrong but it's a little bland. You can always add sauce. Steak and fries - good Nothing is great, nothing is horrible but is it really worth the money? Always a great spot for drinks.

I called ahead to make a reservation for 5 people and specified there was my dad was in a wheelchair. We got there and they said there are only booths available and he would have to go in the booth that he can't be in his wheelchair on the side. They offered a smaller table where we OBVIOUSLY wouldn't feel. Horrible service and treatment. Made my dad feel horrible. Never going there again

I'm not exaggerating when I say this is arguably the best restaurant in Miami. The service was incredible. The food was phenomenal. And the ambience is stellar. Was visiting Bal Harbour shops and stumbled upon this location of Hillstone (I'd only ever been to the Coral Gables location). Decided we had to go eat after some shopping. Not only was the food deliciously prepared, but it was filling and fresh. I ordered the veggie burger -- it was HUGE, and served on a delicious brioche bread with fresh beets and other veggies. The tres leches Who is possibly the best I've ever had. It was fresh and PERFECTLY moist. It seriously tasted like the chef had just prepared for us. To end the night, we enjoyed a phenomenal ice cream sundae that was topped with candied nuts. I could go on...but yes. What a great experience! Definitely coming back soon. So so loved this place.

I LOVE Hillstone Restaurant! Have visited multiple times and keep coming back! The Caesar Salad is the best I have ever had in my life and the Ding's Crispy Chicken sandwich is to die for. The Pan-Roasted Salmon is melt in your mouth delicious and the Spinach & Artichoke Dip is excellent and is served with a salsa the surprisingly pairs very well with it. Bread is not complimentary at Hillstone but they do offer a Warm Bread Plate on the appetizers menu that is very good although rather small. They are currently adding sushi to the menu and the Thai Tuna Roll had the unexpected element of peanuts which I can't say I've ever had in a sushi roll before. For drinks I recommend the Crisp Martini which is light and refreshing. Highly recommend this place the atmosphere, service and food are top tier every time!

I've been here at least 10 times and every time I try something new it's better than the last. Every dish here is honestly great. The sushi quality is exquisite, literally as good as Makoto! I am obsessed with their fried chicken sandwich and the ribs. The seating is really comfortable, and the view is excellent.

Gives off the same vibe as Houston's or j-Alexander's. Menu is full of american kitchen kind of food. Portions are pretty big and always tastes good. service can be a bit slow but always has it perks. The warm towels after each course is a great touch.

I was here for the first time today as I was being more aware of my surroundings at the bal harbor mall that is outdoors. This place is a gem. I never have had ribs that were so amazing. I wasnt paying that much attention to when they asked me what scauces I want...I think I zoned out. But either way it was good and I enjoyed myself...seasoned with just the right amount of bbq ...it was like eating a piece of cake. Heaven on a plate .. I think this is the place where the locals come to hang out, socialize and meet other people who live within 5 miles and have nice things. Speaking of this dont be like me and wear gym shoes. Dress to impress. Either way I had fun.

The food was so good. I don't know what kind of wizardry they use in their kitchen, but everything was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. Atmosphere and decor are top notch. The service was a bit hit or miss. Sometimes our waiter was on top of things and attentive, but other times it felt like we were invisible. Pricey, but expected fot the quality. Overall, though, I'd still give this place four 4* because the food was just that good. I am a huge fun of the Houstons / Hillstone family and will definitely be back.

This place is great to go for lunch, great salads and beef ribs, their cole slaw is very unique and extremely tasty. It's located at Ball Harbor Mall. This is a very successful restaurant chain that always provides quality in everything they do. Very well run chain and offer a homemade taste for all their foods. Service is impeccable.

Super disappointing experience... went for our anniversary been going to hillstone for years since my nyc days.. but this time was just so sad. Manger on duty was super condescending and went off on my boyfriend when not notifying the server of his celery allergy when we ordered deviled eggs.. I have never in my life had deviled eggs with celery.. horrible. Said it's not their issue it says on the mention that it's "our duty" to notify server sooo rude. Then proceeded to yank things from out table throughout the evening without saying a word and server said that it was in caution of allergy ‍ just insane. Zero hospitality or people skills. Please get better management so we can return to a restaurant we use to love! Whole anniversary vibe was killed. :( 8/1/23 8:30pm

Went to this location very elegant and nice decorated. The service was on par . Food excellent I had the crispy chicken sandwich. Very delicious with an excellent salad inside sandwich! Fries were very good . So good I recommend it. Good location. Nice mall at Bal Harbor.

Lovely restaurant! When we first arrived we where not sure about the menu We did not know if it was lunch or etc. We all 4 ordered fish The kale salad was yummy! I wish I could get the recipe! The Cesar salad was great and fresh! The service was good A bit of lack of communication with servers The manager for this past evening was a incredibly impressive! He went beyond his job to make us happy! The dinner was delicious! The noise level was very loud

Let me start by saying that Hillstone Restaurant at Bal Harbour Shops knows how to serve up some tasty dishes! The food was scrumptious, leaving our taste buds doing a happy dance. Kudos for making our palates sing with delight! ‍ But here's where the laughter (and some frustration) ensues. ‍ Despite the delectable fare, Hillstone seems to have forgotten about the little ones. No children's menu It's a missed opportunity, Hillstone! To make matters even more amusing (in a slightly exasperating way), they had us waiting for about an hour before finally seating us. Despite making us endure the wait, they didn't validate our parking! It's like they were saying, "Thanks for your patience, now please pay extra for your parked car as a token of our appreciation." How thoughtful! All jokes aside, the service at Hillstone was actually quite good. The staff was friendly, attentive, and did their best to make our dining experience enjoyable. Kudos to them for their professionalism and warm smiles! In the end, Hillstone Restaurant at Bal Harbour Shops delivered on flavor but fell short in some areas. While the absence of a children's menu and the lack of parking validation were annoying, the overall dining experience and delicious food made up for these shortcomings. If you're willing to overlook those minor issues, give it a try! Just be prepared to keep your little ones entertained and your wallet ready for an extra parking fee!

Ribs are to die for ! Perfectly seasoned, with fries and Cole slaw and fabulous service. A cold Chimay to top it off makes for a special dining experience !!;)

Nice place, with a nice atmosphere. Staff is pretty cool and helpful. Located in bal harbour shops. The waitress was nice and greeted me right away, Made some recommendations, always kept the water Full and kept checking up on me. Pros: DEVILED EGGS, Fresh and full of taste. ( farm fresh eggs and Ding's pickle relish ). DING'S CRISPY CHICKEN SANDWICH, the chicken was fried perfect and the sandwich is a good size. ( crispy buttermilk fried chicken, baby swiss, spicy slaw ). Cons: Usually packed, need a reservation, long wait time.

The food is really good here. It's done right. There is nothing unique about the food but the burgers were cooked and seasoned well. The fries are way too skinny but they grow on you. The fudge sundae is really good. The ice cream holds its form and doesn't melt fast. You can really taste the vanilla. There are candied pecans on top and whipped cream. Then the fudge comes on the side so you can pour it at your leisure. Mera's Tip: save room for dessert

Good service all the time, very accommodating. Food is good, the ribs are so good. Wouldn't get the burger though, needs more salt and pepper but that might just be me. The spinach and artichoke dip is so good. Nice for lunch and dinner. Place is always clean and looks good.

This spot gets no stars from me! While shopping Bal harbour with my wife and two small girls we popped into Hillstone to have lunch - Upon entering the restaurant we were informed that our stroller would not be allowed inside & oh yeah we also don't have high chairs! So what they really are saying is that our rather empty restaurant has a no children policy. To top it off the host staff was rude and condescending. Always surprises me that people who work in high-end retail and high-end restaurants think that they are doing a favor by serving the customers. Management here really needs to rethink their policies, they didn't just lose our business for the day - they lost our business forever.

Great food and portion! The environment is very chill. And the service is excellent. Got the beef ribs and crispy chicken sandwich. They easily exceeded our expectations.

We stopped in Hillstone while shopping at Bal Harbour Shops and had a fantastic lunch. The veggie burger and spinach dip tasted familiar so I looked them up and found out there's actually a Hillstone in Los Angeles too. *excited face* Then I read that it was formerly Houston's and everything made sense. I haven't been to the LA location yet but the Miami restaurant was really good. I'll definitely go there again soon.
