Nothing can compare to the food, the staff, the atmosphere or the bang for your buck that you get here. My husband and I left Happy and Full as a tick! We will be back! The food, the food, the food! 100 out of 100 stars!

Hilltop.... Top tier food. But ordering online is trash. Order keeps getting canceled. No one answers the phone at any location. That's if the number works at all. Black businesses should really hold themselves to a higher standard. Glad to update my review once someone answers the phone.

The breakfast burrito was good. Would definitely add more meat next time. The tots were perfect and the sauce went well with it. The breakfast sandwich was yummy. The place has nice vibes and is definitely bigger than it looks. The food comes out fast and fresh.

Well presented, but the "breakfast burrito" was bland, and the tortilla was hard and dry. It kept chipping off too as seen in the photos provided. I paid $3 more for avocado but I did not pay $3 for a thin slice of avocado to be at the bottom of the last 1 ½ bite of the burrito. Overpriced for a mid-experience.

*This place is Vibe City If you’ve seen my other reviews on coffee spots you know the vibe is the selling point. This place has the best vibe of any coffee shop I’ve ever visited. You walk in the place is esthetically pleasing, you can hear the music from outside the bump 90’s early 2000’s R&B the mood is just set. The entire staff here are so friendly you feel like you’re just vibing with everyone. The food is good but it’s a coffee shop so I wasn’t expecting it to be phenomenal. Although I got the cornbread & I honestly had to make sure my granny wasn’t being held hostage in the kitchen.😂😂 Have you ever seen a pink Arnold Palmer? Me either! But it was amazing. They had eggnog latte & sweet potato latte. Against my better judgement I opted for the eggnog & I was not disappointed. I forgot to photograph the cornbread it was so good I forgot to take a photo(maybe next time) If you see any bad reviews of this place just bypass them. This is one of the best coffee spots in LA!

This place was a whole vibe. The food was great (just add a few more strips of bacon to my Bangin Breakfast Sandwhich, why, by the way, the bacon was cooked perfectly without even telling you). The best of R&B was like no other. Thank you for great food and amazing experience - I have to comeback for the weekend brunch. And this place appears to be black owned. Let’s do!

The real gem of the jewelry district in DTLA is not the Diamond shops of 7th and Hill, it's Hilltop Coffee! On week two of displacement after the Altadena fires, and making DTLA my new home, Hilltop has made the transition exceptionally welcoming. Big props to their customers service, and to Manager -- Wendell, for not only crafting a delicious espresso but doing it with a warm smile and engaged conversation. To the drinks, I tried their latte; the verdict: delicious, smooth, and a bean that gives you the boost without the jitters. I'll be back to try other popular drinks, and food. The other perk is the space -- large for a group or individual. Its decor is aesthetically pleasing designed and the breakfast is top of the class. Thank you Hilltop!

Owned by Issa Rae, brightly open and mod artsy interior design with range of seating. There's cafe/brunch/meal options but kitchen closes an hour before closing and check all updated hour operations because management doesn't update hours and can cause confusion on weekends. I ordered matcha oatmilk latte and sweet potato loaf. Absolutely delicious items that make me want to return for their brunch menu. The service was ok, it was thirty minutes before closing so staff weren't as attentive and it looked like a slow Saturday afternoon. But a team associate helped me with my order promptly. This is a great space for small meetings, dates, lunch with friends/associates. The interior looks like an outside gazebo. Water closet located adjacent pick up station in rear. Give hill top a visit.

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and the coffee is amazing! I get either caramel/vanilla latte and it doesn't taste like syrup (there may be some though lol). I will say, they do take some time to make the coffee so not the best place if you're in a rush, but they really take the time to make your coffee taste amazing. I haven't had a meals there, but I've ordered side of eggs, sausage, and a croissant. Love the eggs and sausage, made very well. Croissant, it doesn't get warmed up, but other than that, no complaints! I've been there to study a few times. Plenty of tables and wifi works really well. It's never crowded which I like. It has a nice ambiance to study in. Will definitely be studying here more often. Parking will be difficult for those who want to drive and try this place out. I live nearby so I can walk to the cafe.

The vibes here are immaculate. Stepping in felt I felt an immediate stress release. The aesthetic, the music, everything was on point. The coffee I had was delicious as well. I often have trouble finding good coffee and I see why so many people suggest this place. Love it.

*BE CAUTIOUS WHEN EATING HERE* Ordered on Uber eats and at first everything seemed great, the sandwich I ordered looked amazing and I was pleased to eat it. Once I got into the sandwich I felt something in my mouth, I thought it was an eggshell. To my extreme surprise it was A STAPLE. COOKED INTO THE SANDWICH. Thank god I didn't swallow it!! It's very strange and concerning that there is something as foreign as a staple inside of the sandwich considering it shouldn't be anywhere near the kitchen area!!! When I call the number it never goes through. PROCEED WITH CAUTION BEFORE YOU EAT HERE. There's sick people in this world and you never know what's intentional.

The chili was good. Very flavorful but a little sweet. The server let me know that it would be sweet prior to ordering. The star of the show was the cornbread. The grits were a little running. The dish was rated as average. You order at the counter get a number and the. Take your seat. They have water, self serve. You also bus your own table at the end. They offer free wifi and a place just to chill.

Happy I finally got to visit Hilltop! I was staying at a hotel nearby and had been dying to visit Hilltop so I was excited it was a five minute walk away. The cashier was so friendly and provided suggestions and answers to my questions. I wanted an iced latte and given all of the flavors offered, I decided to do a mashup of the pistachio and honey. I had to pay $1 for almond milk and just days after learning that Starbucks no longer charges for dairy-free milk, this stung a bit. But my drink was delicious! The space is also really cool and the artwork is dope! I love that the restaurant is spacious given some LA spots are quite small. I had already had a breakfast burrito but the next time I visit, I plan to order a meal!

Beautifully designed interior that's classy, trendy, but also casual and provides perfect local for focused business needs (individuals dining and working solo) in a place that has a great ambiance about it. The food is delicious and well prepared/presented and the cornbread is probably the most tasty and worthwhile cornbread in history; you should get at least one piece. In a pinch could probably be used as a weapon if thrown against somebody's head because it weighs about a pound! it's dense, hearty and tasty though! When we went for lunch, almost the entirety of the place was single individuals sitting and working or just relaxing on their phones or computers, and the place is set up perfectly for these type of persons, but it could also handle medium size parties easily and they have a weekend brunch that I understand is quite popular.

Honestly I just stopped in for the Fallout Coffee Promo. What a deal! I couldn't find parking so my friend went in while I looped the block. But I love that they were included. Unfortunately it's not in my area so I'd only come here for the promos. But for a 33 cent coffee it was pretty tasty. The interior is dim green and cozy. Honestly my ideal place to work or read. I love the nooks they had too. It was nice and quiet. If they ever open up a location closer to me in the valley, I would definitely come more!

Service was quick. The buenos dias bowl had a lot of good flavors. The Nutella Beignets were good if they were dipped into the Nutella. I expected the Nutella to be inside, feel like it would have tasted sweeter that way. I did have the bangin breakfast sandwhich but didn't get a picture. It was very good, the Brioche bun was a great touch.

Great vibes, good food, great service and the drinks are pretty good. A little overpriced, but that is to be expected. I ordered the avocado toast & it was decent. They have very little vegan options on their menu.

This place did such an amazing job with the interior. There are vines on the roof and soft lighting that makes it perfect to spend a work at home day here or catch up with a friend, like in my case. We both got the breakfast burrito and it was delicious. I loved the sauce that they gave it with. We both got pistachio lattes also which are my favorite type so I was super excited to see that they had them there. You order at the counter and then pick up your food once it is ready.

Definitely a great space for multipurpose events. The rooftop is spacious, great bar area, and lots of seating. Downstairs is also spacious and can be used for various events. Came here for an R&B party and was definitely a vibe! Great people, great drinks, and great energy. Would return during regular goers to check out what the restaurant and coffee shop have to offer

My friend and I were trying to check this place for a while. They don't have a parking, but there is a public parking close to cafe which is about $15-$20. We had Hilltop Cobb chicken bowl and Vanilla lattes. The bowl was pretty dry but the taste was good. The drinks were okay, I wouldn't try the same bowl again, but might try their other dishes.

It was a bit confusing at first, the drinks you still collect yourself from the counter but the food will be brought to your table. I got the soul bowl with shrimp, however they gave it to me without the shrimp at first and had to take it back. The staff were all very kind and helpful however. The soul bowl was good overall, but I think the broth from the collard greens makes the whole thing watery after the first few bites. There's a lot of seating inside but people come to study/work so sometimes only the large tables are available.

Drinks: Stopped here for drinks while sightseeing in LA and I was very pleasantly surprised. had the peach mimosa which was delicious, refreshing, and sweet. They have an extensive list of teas, coffee, alcoholic, and non alcoholic beverages. They also have a nice sized menu with different brunch options. I'll definitely be returning in the future to try their brunch menu items with friends. Ambiance: The decor is gorgeous with a very moody modern vibe. There is plenty of seating inside and outside for customers. Service: The servers and bartenders were very quick to take our orders and get them out to us. It didn't take more than five minutes to order and have our drinks out.

All I can say is, me & my wife drive from Long Beach for this Amazing coffee. They first got me hooked on the Sweet Potato Latte. If you haven't tried this place, you're missing out. Thank you Issa you've created another addiction for me... rofl. If I could give them 10 stars, I would. Love this place.

A great spot for a quick breakfast or an early lunch. I ordered takeout through our office and was greeted with quiet the spread. The sandwich was rich and the eggs were perfectly cooked. The tatter tots were soft and flavorful. Order: bacon breakfast sandwich with tatter tots Comment: the cheese was a little dry by the time it got to me which is not their fault. The bun was good but tasted a little too dense for me.

Oh my god, some of the best food I've had in LA so far. The chicken sandwich was perfect: extremely crispy chicken, lots of flavor, perfectly seasoned. And the beignets were hands down the best beignets I've ever had.

Went for auntie jams on a Thursday. The crowd was great and the music. I haven't tried the food at this location but have in Inglewood and it is delicious.

First this place is nicely decorated, art on the walls, plants everywhere, good music & very busy. You order in a line then sit down. We ordered the steak and eggs with an Arnold Palmer and coffee's. Our drinks took awhile, there's was line of us waiting. They call out your name for drinks at the counter. When my drinks were made they forgot one &Our food was ready before our coffees. Someone from the back brings it to the table. You have to grab your own silverware by the counter & bus your own table. The steak and eggs were really good. The grilled tomato was very tasty. The butter sauce was nice. Honestly this was a good plate 5 stars The Arnold Palmer is not an Arnold Palmer. It's like a spicy passion sweet tea, they should honestly call it something else, I was disappointed. Our coffees were horrendous, honestly I've never had a worse tasting coffee in my life. Very bitter, burnt didn't add the flavor I asked for our drip was also bad just in that it was very bitter. There was one guy making coffee and he seemed very overwhelmed.

I have been wanting to try Hilltop for a long time. I went with coworkers on a Thursday morning. I ordered the oatmeal, cornbread and a lavender latte. The food tasted like it was high quality. The coffee was delicious! The cornbread was good but a little sweet. My total came to $26.73, which I think was really pricey for what I got. I think the coffee price was comparable to other big chain shops but tasted better. The staff was friendly and made good suggestions. The vibe of the place was definitely my favorite part of the experience. It is set up for groups to eat and also individuals to work or study. The music was amazing and I felt like I could have worked there all day.

First time visit to this hidden place on S Hill street. Met a friend for breakfast, ordered at the counter and food is delivered to your table. Coffee was good, had the banging burrito which was good but not hot...it's a chill vide inside and comfortable seating.

Loved this place for an event called Aunty Jamz. I've done work at Inglewood and Slauson several times but this was my first time in the DTLA space and attending an event. Loved it and will try to come back in the day time to catch the vibe. But I loved it.

I absolutely love this place and is my go-to when I tag along with my husband to DTLA on my non working days and do my teacher organizations and prep work. The staff is friendly and the owner is very down to earth and sweet and I enjoy talking with her whenever we catch a glimpse of each other. My favorite to get here is the Soul Bowl, which has grits, collard greens, corn and poached egg and I always add tiger shrimps as they are always cooked to perfection. I am Korean American and something in the flavoring of their collard greens is just so "Mmmm!" and hits the spot like a good kimchi stew made from perfectly fermented cabbage Kimchi with that DEEP flavor and I swear they must have hidden some kimchi in there but I don't see it. Well, I love it and whatever they are doing to make it this good, please keep making it. I am on my way there right now, coincidentally.

Walking past this hidden and really nice interior for quite a bit, decided this past Saturday would finally try it, and was craving a fried chick sando at 9am. I asked the cool chick at the counter if its too early to order, but she said no and that that's what she's having LOL. Plunked down around 18 bucks and got it under 10 minutes to go, thank you don't drive thru. It was quite big, nice brioche bun but not as fresh as a liked. The sandwich had sweet pickles which I hate but somehow went well with this. It was smothered in a pink mayo based slaw which was ok but just too much on it. Put some Franks buffalo from my work pantry and wolfed it down faster than it was made. It was solid, but the batter was separating from the huge filet. would I eat again? Yes and probably try few other things now that I know how nice it is inside. BIG plus that they open early (8AM SAT) will be back to maybe try a breakfast burrito which sounded tempting too.

Hilltop Cafe in Downtown LA is a true gem. The ambiance is immaculate, perfect for both working and relaxing. I enjoyed a delicious breakfast sandwich paired with crispy tater tots and a smooth cold brew. The carefully curated playlist added to the cafe's vibrant yet focused atmosphere. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout my experience. If you're heading there to get some work done try to arrive either in the morning or early in the afternoon since it closes at 3PM. And if you're coming planning to need your laptop while there, be sure to charge it beforehand since outlets are sparse.

Parking would be street parking. You pay first and then you can sit anywhere. I only ordered their food, which was the smoked salmon benedict. It doesn't say on their menu, but it's available only on weekends. The Smoked Salmon Benedict was okay and not worth the price (~$18). It was small and didn't include potatoes or any other sides. The taste was fine, but nothing special with sauce or anything like that. I'm glad I found this place! Spacious, great service, clean and great food! What more can you ask for? I ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon and avocado on the side and it was a Top 10 breakfast burrito. Wow. The salsa verde was great, but I needed hot sauce. They only have sriracha which is fine with me. My buddy ordered the grilled cheese and it came oozing cheese from the size and the sour dough it was one was really good. They need a tomato soup with it. I saw one on a menu online, but I guess it was old because they didn't have the fish sandwich I saw on there either. Overall a pretty good breakfast spot. I'll definitely be back to try more items. Street parking is limited, but worth a walk if you need to park down the block a bit.

Something about this place just felt off-putting. The two people working the counter seemed to know the person in front of me so once I got in line it took 3 or 4 minutes for them to just finish their conversation before even putting in their order. I love people getting to connect but standing there like an idiot waiting for them to finish their chat just makes you feel like crap, you know? Everything is served in paper or plastic, including espresso in a little paper cup. I don't know what to tell you, but sitting in a cafe and drinking espresso out of paper instead of ceramic ruins it. There's an automatic 5% charge added to every purchase and if you read their blurb about it, it just says it's kept by the establishment to remain competitive. Maybe I missed something. I don't know, vibes were off.

Came here a couple of times for coffee which have been delicious and the staff are always nice. However, I tried the food today. And it's basically over priced jack in the box. I had the bangin breakfast sandwich, which was $12 for burnt bread, burnt bacon, and an over cooked egg. The sandwich was so dry. I also had tater tots, which were ok, lacked salt, nothing special.

Went again for a brunch date with my partner. They got the lox toast and said it was excellent. I got the Soul Bowl - the grits and greens were both very tasty and the egg was poached perfectly. It was a lot of food and I didn't finish it. The beignets were more dense that I prefer but still tasty. We both got iced vanilla lattes and the coffee continues to be excellent.

one of the nicest coffee shops I've been in to dtla! This spot has been on my list for a while, we happened to be staying around the corner for the weekend. Went on a Monday right before the closed and it was very chill, people working but quite and enough space. Tried their iced Arnold palmer, it was great. We also had the sweet potato latte and it was so good, I was bummed I didn't get that instead! They also have a bar for brunch vibes, I would like to come back and try the food during brunch hours.

Drinks were great, my wife and I enjoyed their matcha-chata iced and the lavender latte iced with oat milk and if it wasn't for the weird vibes I'd come back. The place is beautiful the aesthetic very modern and earthy and we loved that about it, but the bland service took away from the experience.

Their service is 5 stars. Ordered a cobb salad. It was over dressed, so I asked to purchase some more greens. The manager was nice enough to remake my salad. All the ingredients are super fresh. They are generous with their bacon and proteins. Some of the items were heavy handed with the salt, but oh well. The place is really clean, decor is awesome. But parking is really tough!

I love the coffee, I love the decor and music. Don't expect a piece of personality and smile from anyone, which, ok that's fine. Food menu looks good, haven't had it. I have 3 stars because chik fila sort of got me feeling like people in serving establishments are nice and most importantly; they have all gender restaurants with NO LOCKS ON THE DOORS. I'm talking about theee actual stalls! Doesn't make it any better I've seen people from the streets (homeless) walk right in to the bathroom. I've never seen bathroom stalls without door locks in my life.

Had the pleasure of stopping by twice, once for an event and the other just coffee break with friends. The ambiance is very nice inside, bth the music and decor elevating the shop to a higher end feel. While I haven't had their food, their drinks both coffee and alcoholic beverages are tasty I hope to be back for a more detailed review.

I don't think that I will be going back. Maybe the other locations are more mindful. Soggy salads and burnt sandwiches just aren't acceptable.

Please order it iced with oat milk and with a shot of vanilla syrup ( according to Uber eats one of the most popular orders ) and thank me later !!!

As a retiree, I finally had the time to check out Hilltop on a Tuesday morning in April and wasn't disappointed at all! I ordered the yummy Soul Bowl as a "risk taker" because I had never eaten grits and collard greens together. I am so happy to report that I did not leave a drop that could fit on my fork. Hilltop serves the creamiest grits I've ever had, and the collards had both a wonderful texture and savory taste that surpassed my own home cooking of greens (and mine are delicious). The runny poached egg and corn added wonderful layers of flavor to the meal, and I highly recommend it. I also enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate with half and half as one of the many options to choose from like almond milk, whole milk, skim milk, etc. Yummy! Once you order your food, you can sit anywhere you like, and they will deliver it to your table. I chose to sit at the bar to watch how well the coworkers took care of business with no drama. The music stimulated the senses and harmonized with the meal, drink, and decor. I felt like every detail was taken into account to make us feel cared for throughout our dining experience. I appreciated being left alone to enjoy my food once it was delivered! The entire staff seemed very focused on making sure the experience remained comfortable, safe, and inviting.

Immaculate vibes: the space is beautiful, playlist of 90s r&b/neo-soul, lots of comfortable seating, easy ordering up front and delivery to your table. Food: I'm usually skeptical of boneless chicken for chicken and waffles, but the breading on this made up for it. It was good as hell. The waffle was fluffy and delicious, and has a hint of cinnamon. Cold brew was delicious and all the folks working were really nice. I sat there for about 2 hours eating and writing on my laptop and felt completely comfortable.

The atmosphere and vibe exceeded my expectations. The service was top-notch, and the food arrived promptly. This is an excellent spot for meetings or just relaxing by yourself. It's a lovely hidden gem.

After struggling to find street parking or having the option to pay for parking we finally walked into a total viiibe. Love the decor, music, the art work and spacious booths for dining and for studying. Came here for brunch with the bf on a weekday with plenty of seating. Service was fast, received everything within 15 mins. Drinks: Chai latte & Iced vanilla latte were great. Food: Crispy Chicken Sandwich - large portion, crispy and juicy. Bomb. Tortilla Soup - perfect size, I matched it with my grilled cheese. Grilled Cheese - large option, perfectly toasted and super cheesy. Nutella Bignets - thick, more bread like but tasty! Had to tik a star off just for the location and difficulty to find parking. Lots of parking lots that you can pay for around though!

Stopped by during a trip to Los Angeles looking for a quick bite to eat and came across this wonderful place. I totally forgot this was Issa Rae spots. lol Here are some of my take aways. Environment This was a wonderful beautiful space. As soon as you walk you're surrounded by a earthy, spacious and relaxed vibe thats great for catching up with friends, having meetings, doing work or reading a book. It's a hip, modern social cafe that makes you feel right at home. Loved everything about it. Service Operates like a regular cafe - you walk up to the counter and they take your order. The drinks are made at the counter and if you order food you grab a number and find a seat (if you're eating there) and the kitchen staff (the kitchen is located in the back of the cafe) will bring your food out to you or you pick up in the food area. The staff was more than friendly. I felt very welcomed during my whole visit. I believe the owner came and spoke us letting us to come back for their weekend events. If I lived there I would definitely take her up on that offer. Food and drinks I ordered the fish sandwich and tater tots. The fish sandwich was delicious and filling and the tots were a great compliment to it. I would definitely go back to try other things off of the menu. I would especially love to try their weekend brunch. Overall Wonderful place, beautiful space. Great service and really tasty food. Really great addition to DTLA.
