In my quest to visit every Major League Baseball park, I made my way to Houston. This was my first time staying at this hotel.
Parking: you can either valet at $45 per night or self park at $30 per night. I couldn't find the self parking area, so I ended up in the valet line. Staff was great at helping me find self parking. It's actually just a public parking garage. Make sure you bring your ticket with you to the front lobby.
Check-in: from the parking garage, there is a sky bridge that connects to the hotel on the second floor. The was both a Rockets basketball game and an Astros baseball game going on the night I checked in. I don't know if that's why the lobby was so busy, but I was surprised how many people were waiting to check in. Fortunately they have a separate line for Honors Members so I was able to get checked in immediately. The guy checking me in asked if I self parked, took my ticket, and explained that I can use my room key to go in and out of parking. I got a little bag with some snacks. If you are gold or diamond honors, you also get a voucher for each day for a beverage of choice and either a breakfast sandwich or pastry at the Starbucks in the lobby area.
Room: no issues with the room. Large bathroom with one of those mirrors with a light that you can set to different brightness. The tv was huge. I'm guessing at least 70 inches. Being on the 19th floor, I was worried about the shower water pressure, but was very strong. The only drawback was that I couldn't get the room as cool as I like. It got to just under 70 degrees. For some that's probably ok, but I really prefer cooler. No microwave in room, but they will bring you one upon request.
Restaurant: instead of using one of the vouchers for Starbucks, I tried the buffet. This, to me, was pretty lacking. If there were any danishes, I couldn't find them. They do have an omelette station, and I thought that was the best part. They also had disposable gloves at the buffet for everyone to wear when getting food and from what I saw, everyone used them.
Location: if you are here for a sporting event (like I was) the location is PERFECT. The basketball arena is literally right across the street. The baseball stadium is only a ten minute walk. Well worth it to avoid game parking. There are a few restaurants in the area within walking district, including the wonderful Rustic, where the best pork chop is served.
Didn't visit the pool or gym.
