Yelp
I booked a room here for a week and a half because I flew in from across the country to have surgery and wanted to be as comfortable as possible afterward while I was recovering before my flight back home. Honestly, this was a third option, as the original hotel that I booked with had had a fire the morning that I flew in and had to be shut down for repairs. When I went to the next closest hotel, they were fully booked, probably taking in everyone from the initial hotel... I wish I would have just driven past the Hilton and moved on to the next place instead.
When asked about a military discount, the redheaded manager practically scoffed at the question and said that it would be cheaper without the discount. I do not understand how charging someone full price is cheaper than a discount, especially if you are not offering any type of price breaks for weekly rates or for booking a room with them for so long. It was something that I could just deal with as I had no other option apparently, and I was just tired from my flight and had my surgery scheduled for very early the next morning, so I just wanted a comfortable place to relax and get some rest at this point.... Geez, I wish that were the case, because that most definitely did NOT happen in this hotel!!
Before I delve into the details of the room, let me just say that during the entire duration of the stay, the entire hotel reeked of Marijuana. It was practically seeping through the ventilation into the room every single day, all day long, all night long, relentlessly. Some moments were obviously worse than others, depending on when the hotel guests decided to blaze up in their rooms, but it was still pretty awful, especially when one is trying to recover from surgery. When called down to the lobby on the second night to say something about it, it was simply stated that there was nothing that they could do except change my room. If it is coming through their clearly subpar ventilation system, then what help is changing rooms going to do?! So, I just had to live with it. I understand that Marijuana was legalized in the state of Illinois, but I could have sworn that there was a "no smoking policy" in the rooms, but I suppose that only applies to cigarettes as the guests do not enjoy the odor of tobacco, but apparently the odor of Marijuana is just dandy with this hotel instead, even when there are numerous reviews already complaining about this (wish I checked Yelp before coming here), and your guests are literally calling down to complain about it, but then again I have never worked in hotel management so maybe this is something that the Hilton is okay with having occur in their establishments.
I walked into my room, which was a nice sized room, with a mini fridge and a television.... and that was about all when it comes to room amenities. I was a little upset about this, as this hotel cost twice as much as the one that I had originally booked, which also comes with a full-sized fridge, a microwave, and even a 2-burner little stove in their kitchenette (Woodspring Suites incase you are looking for a better and cheaper hotel). This hotel, on the other hand, has a microwave in the lobby that all of the guests in the entire hotel are expected to travel down to use everytime they want to heat something up. I definitely was going to be unable to do this post-op, so that was like a kick in the balls after seeing how much this place cost. On the plus side, they have two sinks in the room for some reason. There is one in the restroom, as expected, then one random sink and mirror outside of the restroom which honestly serves no purpose as there is already one inside of the restroom literally on the other side of the wall. This would have been an ideal place to put a kitchenette, or even maybe just have the mini fridge placed there instead with a microwave sitting on top of it. You would think that with the overpriced rooms, they could at least afford to place a microwave in there, but I suppose that is outside of the Hilton budget.
