Chef Matt McCallister Will Open a Restaurant at Downtown’s New Virgin Hotel | Eater Dallas

"A later Oak Lawn restaurant from the same chef that has earned praise from both critics and diners, representing his current, well-regarded iteration following the closure of his earlier ventures." - Amy McCarthy

What to Order at Homewood, Matt McCallister’s Brand New Restaurant | Eater Dallas

"After the chef’s lauded experimental run at FT33, this casual, cozy Oak Lawn spot channels the same funky, preservation-obsessed approach into approachable, comfort-forward cooking. Highlights range from fluffy Parker House rolls served with a rich, cheesy mornay to a Saucisson Sec of peppery French saucisson and house focaccia topped with razor-thin lardo, balanced by pickled gherkins, mustard-spiked aioli and a fermented turnip–sesame salt inspired by togarashi. A tomato-focused plate layers rehydrated sundried tomatoes in vinegar mixed with dill seeds, halved tomatoes and plums, aerated olive oil, basil from the on-site garden and powdered tomato skins and aromatics for a punchy finish, while a raw Spanish mackerel dish pairs rectangular slices of fish with smoked corn aioli, pickled ramps, serrano, lime and a hoja santa leaf from the garden. The lamb fusilli showcases labor-intensive technique—whole-lamb breakdown, searing to build fond, braising with tomatoes and aromatics, and house-extruded, rough-edged fusilli that clings to the lamb ragu—finished with torn mint and Romano. Desserts from the pastry chef who followed the chef include a dark chocolate popcorn torte of dense chocolate cake, Valrhona Caramelia crémeux, airy mousse and vanilla cream, and shards of malted caramel popcorn brittle for crunchy contrast." - Eater

This hotel used to be my go-to place for quiet time and relaxation, especially before returning to work after winter break. Unfortunately, this stay completely ruined that experience. Check-in was easy and fast, and the room initially appeared clean and fresh. Around 1:02 a.m., I even received a courtesy message from the hotel asking if everything was going well. I responded that everything was fine. However, around 4:00 a.m., I woke up to use the bathroom. When I attempted to get back into bed, I noticed a bug on my pillow. At that point, I immediately started packing my belongings. My only concern was getting out of that room as quickly as possible, so I didn’t stop to take pictures or record a video. I went downstairs and was given another room, but by then, the damage was done. I was mentally uncomfortable and unable to relax or lay down, constantly worrying that the second room might have the same issue. I ended up sitting upright in a chair for the remainder of the night/morning, exhausted and waiting to get ready for work. What was supposed to be a peaceful, restful stay turned into a sleepless and stressful experience. This hotel was once my trusted spot for “me time,” but after this experience, I will not be returning. Very disappointing.

Google
The rooms we had were clean, roomie, and nice. The hallway on our floor had a bad odor. We called maintenance and they remedied the issue right away. All of the employees we encountered were very nice and helpful. Our organization had our first event that required us to use different meeting rooms and a banquet room. All of the rooms were clean and ready for our meetings and meal. The pool and the gym were also clean and inviting. Our sales person, Adriana was helpful and communicative. Our out of town guests enjoyed their stay and were appreciative of the service they received.

I attended a business organization that had booked one of the conference rooms for the annual Christmas Business Luncheon with approximately 150-200 members in attendance. The large conference room setting with round tables were expertly arranged; no tight seating, ample room. The bar in the Conference Room was well staffed. The table setting’s were much better than I have experienced in some downtown Chicago Hotels. All of my place settings were clean with no water stains as sometimes occurs in other restaurants. The conference room lighting was absolutely perfect! No harsh bright annoying light. Perfect low ambient lights setting the mood to listen to the guest speaker. It was an enjoyable 11 AM to 2 PM Christmas Industry Membership Business Luncheon.

Google
selected this hotel because it was close to the banquet hall of where we were having our wedding, the staff here is amazing, they were already helpful but once staff know the reason for our stay everyone went above and beyond service. the restaurant provided excellent service, manager liz was very attentive and ensure my guest were well served and taken care of. i would recommend this hotel for any occasion because you will receive excellent service.

Google
Our hotel was nice, and the view from the 9th floor was amazing. I wasn't a fan of the additional incentives. Paying for overnight parking and charging for the water bottles of you choose to drink them. No complimentary breakfast and all of the snacks were expensive.

Google
I stayed at this hotel for nine nights for both business and leisure. The rooms were clean and well maintained. It’s within walking distance of a laundromat, several restaurants, bars, and an Enterprise car rental. The best part was the complimentary shuttle service to and from Midway Airport or the Orange Line (available from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.). James, the shuttle driver, was extremely friendly, punctual, and offered some excellent local recommendations. Although the hotel is a bit of a distance from downtown Chicago, it’s reasonably priced and easily accessible. Highly recommended!

Google
Stayed here a few times. Watch out for the $75 per night fee when booking but you get that back. But not all of it becouse they find ways to keep it. $15 to park in there lot over night. When there ad on Google says FREE parking. Don't do breakfast over $20 a person. When told it was free from the desk. Each time there's something messed up take your concerns to the front desk or management does nothing. One time it Smells like weed in the elevator and all over the floor. Even in the middle of the night the weed smell was coming from the bathroom fan. Had to close the bathroom door and use a towel under the door. Management said we will look in to it. Stayed another time had to go to the front desk to reprogram the door key. Didn't work in the elevator. Then in room 105 there was no hot water in the shower but the sink did. So I took a towel shower that time. Told management did nothing. Tried there again the key worked this time. But tried there so called breakfast that that the desk said was free when we checked in. And guess what $20 per plate and they charged to the room. For 2 people it was over $52.

I travel frequently for work across the United States and Canada, and the Hilton Oak Lawn in the Chicago area is one of my absolute favorite hotels. The rooms are spacious and incredibly comfortable, making it easy to relax after a long day of travel. The staff is always welcoming and attentive, going above and beyond to make every stay enjoyable. The on-site restaurant is outstanding—honestly, 10/10—and the gym and pool are top-notch, perfect for keeping up with my routine while on the road. I genuinely look forward to traveling to Chicago for work just so I can stay at this property. As a fun bonus, having the REAL slot machines downstairs adds a unique touch that makes the stay even more memorable. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area! Update.... Although I'm giving them this glowing review which is well deserved, I do have to admit I'm saddened that they are now charging a 20% "service fee" at the restaurant downstairs. Thats a total of 40% if you leave a 20% tip. I may start eating elsewhere when visiting this hotel.

Yelp
They staff was very informative however if you fly in late (after 12am) you have to check out same day. I'm a Hilton honors member but no go on discounted rate so unfortunately I did not stay and returned to the airport to wait.

Yelp
Lazy, lazy, lazy. If you want a hotel where the staff couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone and provide even limited customer service - go for it. But if you want the front desk, the restaurant or operator to answer the phone and help - it won't happen at this hotel. I recommend Marriott or maybe Doubletree about 10miles away. If it's an extra drive - it will be worth saving yourself the frustration. Just NO! (Only reason I'm not giving it a 1 star is the gal in the coffee shop was delightful at 6am. Only redeeming element
google avatar

Yelp
And we're gonna go ahead and ensure the one star sticks since clearly you did not read what I said previously & stated I am not a fan of a business responding willy-nilly, as if my concerns were not valid. Let's be honest, as if a "internal review" is going to solve the problem of me being out over an additional $500 due to YOUR hotels issue is a waste of both of our time and you were better off not responding at all. If you want to submit remarks, those remarks would & SHOULD be "refund." Otherwise- just be quiet & quit trying to save face. The cover is blown. I know you're full of crap- responding under "Jackie's" Profile - SCOTT A - So we don't even know who's responding at this point. I'm going to assume that's the "social media manager" I'm sure. Send the real cleaning report to a professional cleaning company since your in-house staff isn't doing a good enough job- and get those filthy rooms in order instead of responding to yelp reviews! I'm certain my travels will be much safer in a place without random bodily fluids or biohazards all up and throughout the beds in the rooms- which means Hilton won't be getting any of those coins because we can SEE the conditions of the hotel. Good day & good riddance.

Yelp
My husband and I attended The Million Pages Gala and The 9th Annual Chicago Urban Book Expo at this hotel so we had a room for the weekend. The hotel staff at check-in, the gala, the expo and room service were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed interacting with that many people that were pleasant. The hotel food we received through room service was delicious yet expensive. However, that's to be expected. The dinner we received at the gala was just okay. Nothing stood out but it was fine. The room and ballrooms were very clean. My overall experience was good except for the bed. It was too firm for me and my husband didn't like it either. We were uncomfortable all night. That's my only gripe. I would definitely recommend and if I decide to return I'll be bringing a mattress topper.

Yelp
Would have been higher rated if I didn't find hairs on the sheets when I pulled the covers back. Decent hotel, but they were just not clean. Wondered if the sheets were even changed after the last guest. 2017

Yelp
I just want to say the warm welcome and attitude from Tamya Smith and Ivan Williams were the most pleasant I have seen from Hilton customer service in awhile. I am genuinely treated nice but this seems to me like they went beyond my expectations. I hope to see them when I book my next stay at Hilton. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Hilton member for life!

Yelp
I read most of the negative reviews here and became worried that I made the wrong choice in reserving this Hilton hotel. I'm happy to say that I made the right decision. This Hilton is very clean. The staff were very friendly as. Communicated well. It is a few miles from Chicago's Midway airport. The rooms are nicely decorated and have all the modern amenities that you will need. Even though there is a train track nearby. We didn't hear it while sleeping in the very comfortable bed. There is an on-site restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner. The breakfast buffet was substantial with quality selections and included made to order omelets, or fried eggs. Parking is reasonably priced at $10 per day. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Yelp
I like this hotel but service is not above and beyond for a Hilton. Lacks that extra care and guest approach you experience with most Hilton's. Not bad, just ok. I stayed here previously and in April 2019 so familiar with it and booked 4 days/3 nights. This trip customer service was a bit blah overall. Decent hotel and location is good as it's very doable for downtown (30-50 mins depending on traffic) and at a decent price point. Rooms are great and beds are comfortable with decent comforter and sheets. Awkward bathroom but love the two sinks in and outside of the restroom. Great for more than one person getting ready. No housekeeping service can be scheduled if for a Diamond Member on request. They will run you up fresh towels and such as needed. This and the fact that no acknowledgement of member status or general welcoming approach. Room before taxes was 180 to 218 a night booking a week in advance, where everything downtown was $350 - 700. This was a more affordable option and it's a nice hotel. Staff interactions could use some work, restaurant is just ok with poor service, and the water pressure is non existent but there is hot water. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice hotel and I would stay here again. Just giving a truthful review for anyone looking to know. This would be my go to if I could not get downtown at a decent price.

Yelp
I stayed here a few nights and the staff I encountered were great. Irene was very helpful the first day of my stay. My room was pretty clean and comfortable. I did notice in the wall corners over the sink outside the bathroom , they needed some immediate attention. Parking is $10/night. It was in a great location for where I needed to get to and my view of the fireworks were really nice too. I would book here again.

Yelp
My husband surprised me with a birthday trip and an overnight stay at this Hilton location. Initially the front desk staff was friendly. However when we finally retreated to our room for the night and turned back the covers I smelled something funny. Upon further investigation I got up and smelled where I was lying and it smelled not only like rotten crotch and urine and a blood stain was on the sheet. We were moved rooms to a bed that was a couch! I would advise against staying here at all costs!!!! Based on one Yelp review I read...they don't change the mattress pads between customers!!!! Disgusting!!! I've noticed a lot of negative review's on here and all the account owner does is replies to comments saying "stay with us again so we can change your mind"! Why would anyone want to stay here again when you don't even get compensation for the inconvenience!!! I've been to a lower class hotel and have been compensated way better than what Hilton provides!!! Avoid Avoid avoid!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
room was extremely dirty, water in the bathroom would not work. when we pulled the nightstand out to get access to more plug ins, there was a moldy hamburger behind the nightstand. when we were moved to a new room due to the state of the room we were originally put in, there was dried snot on the phone.

Yelp
I only stayed here because I was getting my floors refinished and needed a place for 2 nights near My home. This hotel seems like it's OK when you go for events but staying here is tragic. First of all, this is a FRANCHISE Hilton, which explains why it's so old looking, dirty, bathtub backed up, old furniture and unusual air cleaning practices. The manager informed me they are only a franchise, so there is no point complaining to hilton corporate. It's not the same standard. They spray bath and bodywork room spray on the floors so when you get off the elevator you are greeted with acrid spray in your lungs. That stuff is terrible for asthmatic kids. Front desk tells me they spray it to "cover up the smell of cigars." I've never been to a hotel that went to bath and bodyworks to buy a spray to remove smoke. That doesn't work. Beds were small but made up. Dirt in the corners of the bathroom. Dust in every corner. Bathtub stopped up and thought we asked for help maintenance never showed up! So we washed in the sink for two days. No effort was made to move us to a different room. Just overall not a hilton-level experience. Not family friendly given the club atmosphere of the hotel. My children didn't need to be here with adults behaving the way they were behaving in the lobby. Calling the front desk doesn't work. Noone answers. They also charge for parking. 10 a night, which is a steal over downtown but if you don't have reserved hotel parking and the folks at the restaurant can park closer, what's the point of charging? You can just park on a street. Front desk was slow. They let me stand there for 12 minutes -- looking at me -- before someone decided to help me check in. They also hold a ridiculous amount of money on your credit card for essentials that this hotel simply doesn't have or offer. I paid extra for a city view but the windows are so filthy. My son asked If it was foggy outside. No. The windows haven't been cleaned in years. See image. I'm actually shocked at the hotel space and now I know why locals never come here. I relocated to downtown, to a hyatt actually owned and managed by Hyatt. Yes Hyatt. I'm a hilton total rewards member and im disappointed that hilton even lists this place on the hilton site. It's not comparable to other properties. I guess if you have no kids and no choice, you could stay here. Wear flip flops and keep your bags off the floor. The elevator is a dead giveaway as it is filthy. You hate to touch the buttons. Each time we got on we had to inform management of either urine or vomit in the elevator. What kind of clients stay here that they are frequently urinating on the buttons?? Know that the freight trains run by this property, and there is no noise proofing on those dirty exterior windows. The a/c is loud. The room temperature gauges are outdated and slow to adjust to your liking. Yes it's an old building but there is no reason for it to be dirty. It's just overall subpar and not worth 165-200 a night. This is solid motel territory. Should be 115 max including taxes. Bring your own lysol and hand sanitizer.

Yelp
Booked a room, last minute, to visit a sick relative. I used to live in Evergreen but I now live in another state. The staff was ok but nothing special. The building looked ran down, the room had a funky odor & the windows had mold on them. It was hard to see out of the windows because they were very dirty. It looked like the hadn't been cleaned in years. The carpet was filthy, the curtains were filthy & the beds were old. It looked like someone purchased the property and just didn't care to do any upgrades. The best part of the hotel was the elevator. The room was so nasty I couldn't push myself to go anywhere else in the hotel. It felt like I was at a Motel that used to be a Hilton Hotel. I don't recommend this and as a Hilton honors member I will never stay here again.

Yelp
I travel a lot and when I don't review a hotel I always, ALWAYS forget what I liked or didn't like about it. To avoid a disservice to myself, this is for my future reference. What I liked: - the lighting in the bathroom was amazing - bathroom also included one of those magnified mirrors - staying on the 12th floor was a great daily workout for my glutes - if you stay in a room with like an 00-10-ending range, you can catch the sunrise every morning. - fitness room equipment was nice and the restroom was inside the fitness room - location was decent for what I needed to do. It was 20-30 minutes from most of the vegan spots I like to frequent in the city. CONS: - poor housekeeping. Found hairs everywhere! Ew! - dirty walls, carpet, drapes, windows, etc - stains on towels. Gross - in desperate need of an upgrade - most of the staff was less than helpful - room was small Would I stay here again? If I had to, but I'd rather search for better options.

Yelp
Yikes! Like, this place is....something. We arrived and checked in via the app. Got to our room and started to get comfy. Went to the bathroom, and noticed only cold water was coming from the sink. I'm thinking okay, it probably just has to run for a bit. So I turned on the shower water to allow the water to run so I could take a hot shower. The water NEVER got warm. I called the front desk and they told me to turn the handle a specific way. As I expected, that did not work. So the manager, Tom, brought up a key card for a new clean room that was two doors down so I could use that shower. I wish that room was a king instead of a double because then we could've switched rooms. Unfortunately they didn't have any king rooms avaliable for the rest of the night. But I did use that shower and the hot water did work. In the morning, we called the front desk for the mechanic worker to come up and take a look at the problem. The mechanic, Tony, came up and informed us the hot water valve was completely shut off because they were previously, and currently, working on some things on this floor. The lady manager of that day called and came up to the room shortly after Tony left to provide us with a key card a for a new room that was better and had hot water. I thought it was very courteous of them to also adjust the bill for the inconvenience. Thereafter we had no issues. But it still would've been nice to have no issues at all.

Yelp
This place is extremely worn. The carpets in the halls and in the rooms are completely thread worn. The elevators require your room key, nice touch. Though it is it or miss as to whether the elevator will recognize your card before it goes to answer some other call and just takes you for a ride. The hotel offers contactless arrival, which is really nice in today's environment. However, it does work here. For some 24 hours my app said preparing room. So upon arrival I checked in the old fashion way. The clerk at the desk asked me my name and after checking the computer said she saw my reservation and made me key cards. She the asked how I was going to pay for the room. For a second time I explained that I had already done that on the Hilton app. Not very contactless. The room map provided on the Hilton app showed ice machines on every floor. My search came up up empty. After calling the desk I found that they were, in fact, only on ever floors. I walked down one floor and found the ice machine but two men were in the process of stripping it for repairs. They were helpful and cleared up for me. Each morning of our morning (around 6:30 am) we got a recorded call from the hotel that said please hold for a moment and then went on to music. This was a wake/up call from a system that we didn't need nor did we request. For a third of the price of this Hilton we could have stayed in any number of hotels or motels in the Southside Chicago area, many of them Hilton brands. Stay clear of this one.

Yelp
The location is ideal for one of my work sites, but I think I'll make the longer drive for a bit of a cleaner room. The front desk person, Joseph, was extremely nice - probably one of the most pleasant check-in interactions I've had and the only reason I'm giving an extra star. The room itself initially looked nice, but as soon as I pulled the comforter out to lay in bed, I noticed black pilling of the sheets at the foot of the bed and some holes in the sheet. The toilet handle to flush was slimey, too I ordered food from Doordash because I was so exhausted from traveling and then working, I basically immediately got into pj's and didn't want to leave my room but they don't allow food delivery to the room so I had to go down in my pj's to the lobby to pick it up- which was less than ideal. I would have ordered room service directly with them, but that was not available either. The breakfast was below par of most hiltons I've been to, but the dinner was ok (I only got a burger and fries) . Their beer taps were broken, so they were only serving bottles and 2 different bartenders were acting very overwhelmed and took a long time to interact, while only like 5 people at the bar and 0-3 tables at the restaurant.

Ckris G.

Yelp
Stayed there for nye and by far this is the dirtiest room I have had in 30 years of business travel. Discarded food and wrappers on the floor and toilet paper stuck to the restroom wall. Hard to believe the cleaning staff can miss this. When I bought this to the attention of the general manager on staff, he laughed it off and made me a disrespectful offer for the inconvenience, he also reminded me that I am no longer a Hilton diamond member so I guess that means us low status customers are nobody's I guess. Kinda shocked me that he bought that up in our conversation. Good bye oak lawn Hilton, you have lost my business and hopefully anyone else who reads this. There much better Hilton property's to stay at in the area.

Yelp
Overall great stay! Lola was there to greet me at the front and made sure I was very well take Care be of. My room was clean and bed was very comfortable. Also, Lola went above and beyond this morning to get me breakfast Togo though the restaurant didn't open for and hour plus having my shuttle ready as I requested the night before. Great location and not far from the airport! I will stay again! Also, Fred made sure that I got to the airport on time to catch my flight that morning. Overall great day and great group of people taking care of the guest.

Yelp
I've been staying at the hotel over the past 15 years and it has gone up and down a few times. I would say they are on an upswing right now. Excellent location to Midway and to the south suburbs, as well as the downtown area. The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet is better than average. Bar on premises makes for good meeting place for friends. Coffee shop on premises was a Starbucks previously but is now a private cafe. Free shuttle to and from airport is a huge plus.

Yelp
I can't believe this is a Hilton hotel. I have stayed at much better Holiday Inns. I will never stay here again. We had a room that looked over the roof, and as night came, a very bright pink light shone on the building. Only the sheers closed. The drapes did not. Our room was bathed in a very bright pink light all night. We could hear and feel the bass from the music from a party while we were trying to fall asleep. Never again! This place sucks!

Yelp
I attended a birthday brunch that started at 1pm and place an elders breakfast order at 1:45 and she did receive any food until 3:15 and it was simple sausage, egg and pancakes. She is 85 years old and a diabetic. We watched others eat lunch items while waiting and continuing to express the urgency of her receiving her food. No one moved faster or took heed to the urgency. The food was cold and at least (5) guest sent their food back based on incorrect information, temperature and taste. I don't recommend anyone to this brunch the best item was the mimos!

Yelp
Never stay at the Hilton hotel in Oak Lawn, Illinois. My mother Sonja Christopher stayed there June 27 - 30 this year for her school reunion. This hotel is horrible. The customer service is nonchalant and non carish. The rooms are beyond raggedy. She brusied her ankle several times on a metal piece sticking out of the bed, drawing blood the second time. The water backing up in the tub while she was taking a shower was the worse, however She has tried to speak with a manager on several ocassions, but has yet to receive a return call. She even posted a complaint on their corporate website and has not gotten a response. I am posting this so others will not have to endure what my mother experienced.

Yelp
Francisco Gayton, the Assistant General Manager, was not very accommodating to help with room selection...even after the room that my wife had selected/checked in for was given to another guest. We checked in at 5pm and he offered us a room on a lower floor, that room was not even ready! His attitude was that of I was bothering him and being a pest because I requested better treatment and to be serviced better. My wife ended up canceling our reservation and he authorized her refund of 203,000 points & $243 paid to secure the room. After searching around and seeing that there were not other Hilton brand rooms available in the area, I booked a room in the hotel because the Oak Lawn Hilton was the host hotel for the business event that I was in town for and it was also anticipated to be sold out for the weekend. Since there was MAYBE three rooms left, I saw that a standard room was available for 150,000 points for our 3 day stay. Francisco told us that the King City View room that was canceled, was the same as the standard room and all of the King-bed rooms are the all exactly the same...it's just that higher rates are charged because King City View sounds better than Standard King rooms. The hotel is shaped in a circle so ALL of the rooms will give you a view of the city, NOT Chicago...because the hotel is not in the City of Chicago. He was NOT very friendly and he set our stay off to a bad start! I only booked the stay because there were no other hotels in the area. I complained to the front desk daily about the poor accommodations and how unhappy my stay was. Upon check out, I called Hilton Guest Services to tell them of my repugnant stay. I was told that Francisco added a note to my account to saying to not give me a refund. That is ABHORRENT to treat a Diamond, a Gold, or any guest in such manner. We spend our hard earned money and points to be treated with respect and dignity, the Oak Lawn Hilton epically failed!! There was no clear parking space for Diamond Members.

Yelp
After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit apprehensive about our stay at Hilton Oak Lawn, but I can happily say my worries were unfounded. My sister and I found our room to be comfortable, clean, bed bug-free, with a good coffee maker and other amenities. The real stars of the show were the shuttle drivers, Freddy and James. These guys couldn't have been nicer, more polite, and accommodating! They made our short trip to Chicago so much easier and worry-free. They were excellent about double-checking with us regarding upcoming shuttle arrangements and were so prompt with every pick-up. I hope Hilton recognizes what a treasure they have in these two employees. They are outstanding!

Yelp
I traveled to Chicago to celebrate my parents' 50th anniversary. They were kind enough to lend me their car so that I could get to and from their house and the hotel. On the first night of my stay, the catalytic converter stolen was from it, and significant damage was done to the underside of the vehicle during the theft. The car had to be towed to a mechanic, and the estimate to repair it has in the $3k - $4k range. When I spoke to the manager on duty, I felt like I was being blown off. He said that is crime was pretty common in the area and it had happened to a Hilton vehicle that was parked in the same lot. He told me that they did not have security cameras but that someone checked the lot "once in a while" over night. He told me that there was nothing he could do. On my way out, I noticed a sign posted in the lot that said that the hotel was "not responsible" for vehicles that are damaged, stolen, or broken in to. This was pretty baffling to me. The manager acknowledged that he knows this crime is common in the city, and even that it happens in the Hilton parking lot. If the hotel is aware of (and affected by) this crime, they should do more to deter or prevent it, or at least alert guests about it. Maybe there's a security guard checking the parking lot, but I was in an out of the hotel at many different hours of the day (and had a 10th floor window facing the lot) and never saw a security guard anywhere, let alone someone in a vehicle patrolling the lot. Until changes are made to protect the property of guests, I will not be returning.

Yelp
This place desperately needs an upgrade but first let's talk about the things they can control. Food left in the refrigerator, coffee station not stocked, shower curtain held together by safety pins, no room cleaning during stay, took 2 trips to the front desk to get coffee cleaner & Stirs. Vanity is falling apart, curtains don't close( no blackout curtians), walls so thin I actually thought someone was in my room twice, can hear neighboring rooms conversation, nose blowing, coughing.

Yelp
Save your money and stay at a Marriott!! We had a reservation booked for this hotel, that we booked August 2023, for an upcoming stay May 2024) to fly out the next morning using the shuttle service. At the time of booking it was free parking and free shuttle service (which I confirmed with the hotel before I booked). They are now charging parking. We had 3 rooms reserved and 3 vehicles which would now cost us $240 for parking. I called the hotel to see if I could cancel since they were now charging for the parking and they said it was Non-refundable!! I was directed to Hilton Honors advanced Purchase Dept. and I spoke. with Ivy and they were unwilling to cancel even though the hotel had changed it's original offerings. ( they only thing they would offer it to change it for a $50 rebooking fee for each room into a nonrefundable room. All the park and fly options are refundable so she couldn't change to that)!!! I then called the Hilton Guest Assistance department and spoke with Robert who stated he was the Supervisor for the Advanced purchasing dept who stated he would would only be able to do the rebooking with the $50 fee) For a supervisor he was incredibly rude and had no compassion for my experience, even spoke down to me saying, "You did book a Nonrefundable room and would have received an email stating it was Nonrefundable"! He also would not give me a call reference number even though Ivy had for our conversation. I have been a long time Hilton Honors customer but now Marriot will have all my future Business!!!!!!!

Yelp
I definitely recommend staying at this hotel for several reasons. The first reason for me is that this is basically the only decent hotel in the Oak Lawn/Beverly other than the Doubletree in Alsip. Secondly, the rooms are clean and it actually has a restaurant in the bar area. Ive been staying at this location for more than 15 years so I am a bit bias. I worked in the Oak Lawn neighborhood in my teens and so I am definitely familiar with the area. The area is very nice and is not noisy at all. There is shopping within the area and there is even a Walgreens that you can walk to. I will continue to stay here when I visit.

Yelp
How can it be that you have a reservation confirmed in writing and guaranteed to a credit card, and you've even selected a specific room in the app (from among about two dozen available), then arrive three hours later to be told there are no rooms available and they're oversold? This is sheer incompetence and complete lack of regard for customer service. I expect that kind of incompetence from the airlines, not Hilton. But there you are.

Yelp
Run down!! This location is perfect for not wanting to stay downtown but this hotel was a waste of my Hilton points. Rooms on website look different then what you get. I was missing a whole chair, guess to Hilton it's normal to sit on a bed for everything. Not worth the money

Yelp
What an amazing staff! Front desk both checking in and out...friendly, courteous, and pleasant. Shuttle to and back from Midway was on time and clean. James, out shuttle driver even asked if we wanted to stop and get food if we were hungry...(who is that friendly anymore??). Room was clean, quiet and car was parked there for a week as we flew out. not only single issue. Such a pleasant staff and stay. Well done!!!

Yelp
Stayed over weekend very pricey for room and service received. The carpet in room had spots that were disgusting, the bath towels had hairs on them and the mattresses had large dents in it. Reaching housekeeping was unsuccessful.

Yelp
My church had a Christmas party there. Staff was helpful and so very polite. They were so very accommodating. The ballroom had a beautiful tree and the ladies room was clean. Food was good. Carrot cake was quite tasty.

Yelp
I made a reservation at this hotel and was guaranteed that my rescheduled date would be honored. The person at the desk, Marilyn was extremely rude. She lied and told me that she spoke to the general manager and told me there was nothing they could do about the mishap. l explained that I booked the room for my parents from out of town and spoke to an attendant at the desk the previous day who assured me she would be able to help. She told me after putting me on hold that my booking was rescheduled through the back office (as I was told). When my parents came to check-in, they were told the reservation could not be found. After almost an hour on the phone between my parents and I, the woman at the desk (Marilyn) lied and said she spoke to her manager and stated there wasn't anything they could do. After giving all details, there didn't even seem to be an attempt to investigate the situation. The manager on sight, Stacy was extremely rude, did not ask for further information or attempt to resolve the issue. She told me originally that she didn't know what was going on and then repeated all details of the situation and said there's nothing she could do. She was very abrasive and unprofessional. She refused to give her full name and was very nasty on the phone. I have made a formal complaint and advise anyone to utilize any of the many hotels in the area.

Yelp
Gold member here. I specified in my reservation via the app I will be traveling with an animal. Once they saw my dog AFTER I had already checked in and had been at the front desk with him. After settling in, we headed to the lobby, where the manager tried telling me that they do not accept animals in this Hilton and kept insisting (condescendingly) to take a look at their website with her where she claims it says no animals allowed. I told her that I looked at their website before hand and know it says service animals welcome. She then said I would be charged extra and I said that's fine and walked away and she kinda huff and puffed as she walked away. Her and the same lady from the front desk who helped us check in (didn't introduce herself) later came up to me and were threatening to have the cops EVICT us. I came here on a family emergency and my animal is my emotional support animal as I have PSTD. The same women from the front desk started calling the cops as she was told to do by the manager, which shows that she doesn't seem to know their claimed 'no pets allowed policy' as she did not say anything earlier, at this point I was over it and walked away. They told my sister that if they saw my dog outside our room they would call the cops. I've stayed at multiple hiltons with no issues. First time at this one and NEVER again.

Yelp
Although I used to come here for business meetings and conferences, I seem to of had a bad experience therefore changing my outlook. I remember I came in the past and the restaruant and bar were quite nice, the employees were excellent too, but this time, I came across a really shady Manager and I was not impressed how he was speaking of some of the clients that were here but left. The workers also got in on the joke and they just mocked this patron because she was older. I think that an establishment that can do this and have Management also ridicule patrons really makes me question the taste of this establishment. I remmber it being totally different a few years ago and the whole place was really nice, now it seems like they downgraded something and lost the appeal of attracting a good crowd. Sorry Hilton, if you have employees and Management bashing customers, I could only imagine what you all do amongst each other. So not cool and for this, I will take my business elsewhere.

Yelp
Hotel room was dirty. Bedside tables and desk had dirt/dust on them and were sticky. Shower still had someone's hair ties with hair on the shampoo bottle! Bathroom is small and awkward. Do not recommend.

Yelp
BEWARE OAK LAWN HILTON!!!! Before I get into my most recent stay at the Hilton Oak Lawn, let me preface it by saying I have stayed at this property 3 times in the last year and I have had no issues the first two times... This last time was ATROCIOUS!!!!! I will not be staying here anymore!!! After a few annoying interactions trying to get towels, being hung up on, etc.... I Went to close the curtains, they LITERALLY fell off the wall. The whole wall mount and everything. I was lucky I was not injured!!! Called maintenance, they came quickly and were very efficient and polite. Then.... I got my bill.... There was a charge for their restaurant, Whitneys, which we did not make. I contacted corporate, they opened a case and said someone would contact me. Nobody did (48 hours later) I contacted them again, they said someone from the hotel called me... They DID NOT! They advised I call the hotel and speak to a manager. I called and spoke to the assistant Manager, Francisco, I think was his name... He assured me that the Gen Manager would call me by the next day. It has been two days, NOTHING. He claimed that they verify all restaurant charges because this was apparently signed for by someone and billed to my room, but they have yet to send me a copy of the signature and it was ABSOLUTELY not me that made this charge--very concerning. I contacted corporate again, they said it all needs to be handled at the hotel, but NOBODY will call or email me.... Corporate advised I dispute with my bank, which I intend to. I was never offered Points, compensation, NOTHING for basically stealing from me!!!!! I am very disappointed in Hilton and especially this property!!!

Yelp
I booked a room here for a week and a half because I flew in from across the country to have surgery and wanted to be as comfortable as possible afterward while I was recovering before my flight back home. Honestly, this was a third option, as the original hotel that I booked with had had a fire the morning that I flew in and had to be shut down for repairs. When I went to the next closest hotel, they were fully booked, probably taking in everyone from the initial hotel... I wish I would have just driven past the Hilton and moved on to the next place instead. When asked about a military discount, the redheaded manager practically scoffed at the question and said that it would be cheaper without the discount. I do not understand how charging someone full price is cheaper than a discount, especially if you are not offering any type of price breaks for weekly rates or for booking a room with them for so long. It was something that I could just deal with as I had no other option apparently, and I was just tired from my flight and had my surgery scheduled for very early the next morning, so I just wanted a comfortable place to relax and get some rest at this point.... Geez, I wish that were the case, because that most definitely did NOT happen in this hotel!! Before I delve into the details of the room, let me just say that during the entire duration of the stay, the entire hotel reeked of Marijuana. It was practically seeping through the ventilation into the room every single day, all day long, all night long, relentlessly. Some moments were obviously worse than others, depending on when the hotel guests decided to blaze up in their rooms, but it was still pretty awful, especially when one is trying to recover from surgery. When called down to the lobby on the second night to say something about it, it was simply stated that there was nothing that they could do except change my room. If it is coming through their clearly subpar ventilation system, then what help is changing rooms going to do?! So, I just had to live with it. I understand that Marijuana was legalized in the state of Illinois, but I could have sworn that there was a "no smoking policy" in the rooms, but I suppose that only applies to cigarettes as the guests do not enjoy the odor of tobacco, but apparently the odor of Marijuana is just dandy with this hotel instead, even when there are numerous reviews already complaining about this (wish I checked Yelp before coming here), and your guests are literally calling down to complain about it, but then again I have never worked in hotel management so maybe this is something that the Hilton is okay with having occur in their establishments. I walked into my room, which was a nice sized room, with a mini fridge and a television.... and that was about all when it comes to room amenities. I was a little upset about this, as this hotel cost twice as much as the one that I had originally booked, which also comes with a full-sized fridge, a microwave, and even a 2-burner little stove in their kitchenette (Woodspring Suites incase you are looking for a better and cheaper hotel). This hotel, on the other hand, has a microwave in the lobby that all of the guests in the entire hotel are expected to travel down to use everytime they want to heat something up. I definitely was going to be unable to do this post-op, so that was like a kick in the balls after seeing how much this place cost. On the plus side, they have two sinks in the room for some reason. There is one in the restroom, as expected, then one random sink and mirror outside of the restroom which honestly serves no purpose as there is already one inside of the restroom literally on the other side of the wall. This would have been an ideal place to put a kitchenette, or even maybe just have the mini fridge placed there instead with a microwave sitting on top of it. You would think that with the overpriced rooms, they could at least afford to place a microwave in there, but I suppose that is outside of the Hilton budget.

Yelp
This Hilton was uncharacteristically off-brand, and a general liability for Hilton Worldwide. I participate in the HHonors program as I travel frequently for business and have managed to achieve Diamond Status. Upon arrival you would've thought that my status as a committed customer was a bad thing as the front desk proceeded to provide me with terrible service. I' I had booked rooms for myself and the rest of my traveling party, all of my co-workers where placed in rooms on the executive floor, I was placed in front of the elevators on the 6th floor. This made absolutely no sense as others traveling with us where also placed on the executive floor hours after we had arrived and checked in. There were rooms available, however the front desk went out of their way to be unaccommodating, explaining that they could not move me offering no explanation as to why. When I asked why I was not placed with my group I was offered no response, just a shoulder shrug. I had traveled all day, been traveling the week leading up to this stay, and was exhausted. I ignored the filthy windows in my room, stained carpets, and lack of soap upon check-in because I just needed sleep. After-all it was only for one night. The staff at this hotel went out of their way to ensure that I couldn't even accomplish this, and reveled in my misery which was easily the worst part. In the evening/night I came to realize that I was surrounded by kids and adults screaming and yelling at each other until very late on a Wednesday night. I may as well have been at a Motel 6. I attempted to call the front desk around midnight to see if there was anything they could do to quiet it down and the phone in my room didn't work. Once again down to the front desk where a new team of staff took the opportunity to treat me like I was being unreasonable, offer no solutions, and generally resist improving what was now an awful situation. Finally the front desk offered to move me to the first floor directly by the elevators and front desk, which was not a solution as it was just as loud in the lobby and near the elevators there.

Yelp
We travel quite a bit, are Hilton honors members and always try to stay in a Hilton, but I really feel like the standards have dropped tremendously. We stayed one night here (1/29) and reserved online. When we got there we had to go through our credit information again, which put another full charge plus incidentals hold on my card. When I spoke to them and asked what was going on, I was told one of the total costs will "fall off" my card along with the $40 incidental fee from our room that was not used. Still waiting for that. When we went to our room it stunk so bad of weed we came back downstairs and let them know we couldn't stay in the room, it stunk so bad. So we get put on the Hilton honors floor, (should have been there from the get go) I go to take a shower and the shower is covered in hair like someone shaved and it got all over so no shower for me...

Ronald J.

Yelp
The front desk was friendly but I didn't like the room. When I first got there and try to go to my room after getting my card, one of the elevators was already broken until I had to take the stairs because the other elevator didn't come down. When I got to my room, I noticed the heating system was a little bit old and the shower is kind of small for a king room. I could also hear the person next door say "Dammit I forgot the toothpaste" real clear and loud because there was a door in the wall separating us. I don't like hearing the person next door and vice versa. Lastly, when I tried to take a shower it wasn't draining properly and was flooding some of the water back up and there was some nasty cloudy water that I could see that wasn't from me. I've stayed at a lot of Hilton hotels and this is probably one of the worst.

Yelp
We stayed here simply because it was close to the wedding venue. There wasn't anything to complain about as far as the room goes. The AC blows cold, nice shower pressure. The room is a little strangely situated, but that's because of the circular architecture of the hotel. My biggest complaint would be the housekeeping. They would bring fresh towels, but leave the old ones. Even though towels and waste bags were replenished, the bed wasn't made. I'm not expecting new linens every day, especially because there is an environmental awareness card, but I do like a tight sheeted bed. The rooms appear to be a little outdated. Nice tv's but some of the aesthetics reminded me of my grandma's house. This should really be a solid 3.5 stars but I'm feeling generous so I'll bump it to a 4. We booked the Hilton through Hotwire for a buddy's wedding during Labor Day Weekend. Having lived in Chicago for years (now relocated across the country) I knew that Oak Lawn teeters on Southside Chicago. I never felt unsafe here which was a nice feeling. Honestly, this is probably the nicest hotel around the area.

Yelp
Thank you Hilton. This past weekend I attended a Christmas party with a group called the South Side Wine Enthusiasts. I must say that I was really impressed with everything. It was a beautiful hotel. The wine selection was great, the service was great and the food blew me away. I would like to thank one of my servers named Elise. She was spectacular! I would definitely recommend coming here. Merry Christmas
