I booked a room for my wedding night at this hotel for the purposes of being close to Central Park. I also booked this room because I was told there would be a beautiful window view when I called the week of to announce a late check in. *Please keep in mind the importance of the quality of ones stay the night you're getting married.*
Upon check in, a young Yemeni man was super helpful and cordial with us. He brought our bags up to the room quickly and demonstrated the best hospitality.
However, problems arose with the actual room itself. The sink was broken, and only produced hot water, regardless of which way the temperature dial was placed. I didn't realize these problems until the morning of checkout, and when I called room service, the line was busy. Checkout was in a few hours at that point so it wasn't worth trying to change the room and transfer all of our suitcases and belongings to a new room.
The sinks problems were made even worse by the tub, which would not drain properly. The dirty soapy water would accumulate around your feet, ankles and up your legs while you showered. Imagine taking a shower as newly weds while your legs are submerged by cloudy soapy drain water. It was embarrassing to put my bride through this nasty ordeal. This led us to have to wash our feet and legs in the sink to get the dirty soap water off, which only had hot water, which was much too hot for our feet.
The "beautiful" window view was an epic disappointment, as the view was industrial pipes facing the inside of the building. It looked like an elevator shaft full of pipes; not the window view as promised on the phone.
To make matters worse, the local parking garage affiliated with the hotel may have taken my car out for a joyride. When I retrieved my car, the hood latch was open, the trunk was open, and the rear window was down. Good thing I took my valuables out the car, because whoever rummaged through it, didn't bother to close anything they opened. They also disabled my parking sensors, disabled my folding mirrors, and left a scratch on the rear driver side bumper. The parking attendant even drove aggressively to a stop through the garage where he parked it for me to take it. If he's willing to drive like that in front of me, imagine what they do behind your back. When I questioned the man, he stated, "I don't know what happened it wasn't me". The reduced parking rate of $40 wasn't worth the headache this parking garage created. I have a luxury sport sedan and genuinely believed someone took it for a joyride, rummaged through it, and also scratched the bumper. This parking problem isn't so much on the fault of hotel staff, but it contributed to an overall negative experience I already had from the hotel.
The hotel manager offered me 15% off of my rate, but this measly lack of compensation can't bring back the disappointment of our wedding night stay. I would have preferred a more meaningful effort to remedy the horrific experience at the quin.
I called the Hilton corporate line today, waited 20 minutes on hold to get someone to speak to, and the call was either hung up or dropped while I explained my negative experience and situation, with no effort to call me back at all. This led me to type this review today to warn others about the lack of customer service and care Hilton has towards its customers.
