Very good food, and the prices are reasonable. Wait staff is attentive and friendly. Portions are a good size, so if you do an appetizer and main, you probably won't be able to handle having dessert.

I am currently in town for work, and was desperately searching for a place that offered plant-based options to accommodate me. This place is so amazing! I ordered the basmati rice and chickpea masala which is absolutely delicious! The flavor is chef's kiss perfection!!! And did I mention the service! The service was awesome, I felt so welcome, loved and appreciated and felt it through my food as well! I highly highly highly recommend, and promise you will not regret it at least your palette won't! Their drinks are also extremely reasonably priced which was also another plus for me. Again I highly recommend it.

I had a thakali goat curry set which is very famous and wonderful dish from Nepal. I tried this nepali dish (indian and pakistani dishes also available) and it was good, not exactly like Nepali taste but it was okay. The goat curry didn’t taste like Nepalese style, it was more of Indian curry with americanized flavor. The waiters and front desk guy were very friendly and helpful. I loved their nepali dhaka style napkins and karuwa for serving water. The atmosphere was great and have both indoor and outdoor tables. It’s a bit expensive restaurant but I think DC is expensive overall. I will try chowmein and momo next time. Definitely need to work on taste of some food if you call it nepali dish to deserve a 5 star.

Amazing Restaurant serving delicious Indian and Nepali Dishes. Samosa Chaat was flavorful; Bhutan (Nepali Dish) was superb. Loved Goat Thakali; everything was great. Friendly service.

My son, husband and myself enjoyed the experience. Excellent service, delicious food (well presented) and affordable. I highly recommended to stop by and try it.

Beautiful decor and Amazing food. The naan is fantastically light with just enough crisp to it. I tried the Jhol Momo and it was delicious. Momo serving size (10 pieces) is plenty to make sure you leave full!

We were hungry after a trip to Planet Word nearby & decided to give it a try. Sure glad we did. Yummy & delicious ! Full of flavors, the chicken Himalayan curry was sweet and savory, butter chicken was super good. Tandoori prawns unbelievably good as was the Tandoori chicken. Everything was freshly cooked to order and scrumptious. Can't wait to go back.

Dont sleep on this place!! I've been searching for their cheese naan my whole life! I picked up my order-but if I was local--I would come back to eat all the time. The atmosphere seemed nice and the staff were friendly :) thanks for such a comforting meal during my travels.

Himalayan Doko is a quaint Nepali restaurant in downtown DC offering quintessential Indo-Nepalese dishes. We got the Samosa Chaat - a delicious mix of chutneys, yoghurt, and broken samosa. The flavors were bold and tasty, but a bit on the watery side. It seemed the ingredients were not the freshest. We also got the Chicken Momos with chilli sauce. The momos were well-steamed, but lacked flavor. The sauce made up for it, but like the chaat was a bit watery. I hope they are able to fix this issue with the food being on the dull side. The service was a bit on the slow side - I assume this restaurant gets lots of delivery orders to fill. However, the staff was very kind and accommodating. Great spot to check out if you are craving Himalayan cuisine!

This service and food was great. We got chicken momos (fry chilli), goat curry, naan, and goat sekuwa. Everything was full of flavor and the perfect amount of spice. My favorites were the goat curry and chicken momos.

Super yummy! Had the butter chicken - it wasn't spicy like another review had mentioned - maybe you can ask for different spice levels but I didn't. Also they were really attentive and friendly.

nice restaurant, solid food, good portion sizes. Tried a few curries as well as the samosas - all were solid. Butter chicken has a bit more kick than versions elsewhere, flavor was good, chicken pieces were great and the favorite protein of the night. Lamb madras was pretty good as was the palak paneer. Garlic naan was also decent

Came here by myself on a chilly Sunday evening looking for a warm and filling meal at the end of a conference session, and found exactly what I was looking for. Between the chicken tikka masala (creative of me, I know), and a cup of lentil soup, it was perfect; very savory and it hit the spot after a long day of walking and cerebral gymnastics. Chicken was tender, no fatty parts, and the flavors in both dishes were A+. Total for the two dishes plus tip was just over $30 for one person, so I would expect to have some left over for a meal the next day, which I indeed did, and it was just as good the next day. Service was quite quick, and the overall ambiance was about what I expected with a South Asian/Nepalese flair. However, the glaring r&b/rap music was way too much, and I could've done without it, maybe something fitting the vibe of the restaurant would've been more welcome especially if I had my kids with me.

I got to DC last night, and went to a conference this morning. As my Uber drives me back toward my hotel for lunch nap, I spotted this restaurant right next to the church. The signs reads that they open at 12-noon (Sunday) but at 11:50am, I walked in and it was open. There were already a few table of guests and the place looks really cute with nice decor! The gentleman sat me and was extremely pleasant. I ordered the goat curry. I eat this any time I see it on anyone's menu. The goat curry came with rice. The curry was fantastic! A touch of spicy and the flavor was great. It's slightly different from the Indian curry I normally get in LA. I am a big eater and normally my biggest concern with curry is the small portions. Not here! I got a plate full of food and more. I ate all of it and would have licked the plate if no one was here. I am here until Thursday.... I will probably try to sneak in for another lunch! Yum!

Ohhh this food was amazing! Mango lassi drink is the texture of a smoothie, very delicious. Butter chicken was very tender and flavorful. Bread basket is a variety of garlic, cheese and regular naan. The restaurant is very beautiful, loved the cups and napkins. Waiters very attentful and quick. Total for everything pictured was 37.40 before the tip.

This location used to be Sakina Grill (RIP), which was a Pakistani restaurant. Himalayan Doko has the similar (but more toned down) decor, same decorative tables and overall ambiance, so they didn't seem to change much other than adding small booths on one side (an improvement!). Himalayan Doko still offers halal food! I chose the thali with chicken curry and I was extremely happy I did. It came with multiple items - chicken curry; aloo, mutter, gobi (potato, peas, cauliflower veggie curry); sautéed spinach (saag); mas ko dal (Nepalese dal); basmati rice; tomato chutney; a "salad" of cucumber, carrot and jicama; mulako achar (Nepalese radish spicy pickle with mustard seeds) and a sweet called lal mohan which is similar to gulab jamun but in a tangy yogurt sauce. It also came with papadum on the side. It was enough for very 1 hungry person plus some leftovers. Service was good, water was refilled and as a solo diner with AirPods in, they left to my own devices but checked in on me periodically. As I paid they asked me how I liked the food and were very gracious. I'd come back for the food for sure, it was filling, fresh, well spiced and hit all the right notes! - Quite a few food pickups by locals and couriers. Seems popular! - There is a 3% credit card fee, but no other listed gratuities other than the standard 20% for parties of 6+ - Bathrooms are clean - Outdoor seating is available - Differently-abled friendly; they have a ramp to get to the main part of the restaurant 5/5 because it was exactly what I was hoping for and was pleasantly surprised that it was!

This place is phenomenal. We were really shocked to see a mostly empty restaurant for dinner, when the food was so good and the service was extremely friendly. Everything was flavorful, this was our favorite restaurant while visiting DC.

We wanted Indian food and found this place through google. It did not disappoint. The waiter was very attentive and the food was delicious! Loved the decor as well, made it feel very authentic. We say inside since it was kinda hot but there's plenty of seating outside as well. Would definitely come back if I was a local!

My first visit since the name changed from Sakina Grill. I need to visit more often. The restaurant atmosphere is pleasing, the staff was very nice and welcoming and the food was excellent!!! What a great combination! I was seated promptly and the food came out reasonable fast. You could tell everything had a fresh taste to it. If you've not been here since the name change, and love Indian spices you need to give it a try. The Samosa were large, full of flavor and had a nice crust. They were accompanied by mint and Tamarind yogurt. Both had good flavor to them. The chicken Korma Kasmeri was moist, well-seasoned and with plenty to share. The prices are very reasonable. I will be returning soon, and so should you if you have not been!

Amazing food, super yummy with big portion sizes. They add the tip in with the bill so be prepared for that. Also the service was very slow, although it was lunch rush.

Ordered the tandoori wings to start and way more than we were expecting, spectacular, may be a bit of ghee talking but great-save any of the cilantro mint sauce you do not consume for later. Had both lamb and chicken thali with garlic naan. Get it, eat it, love it. I bet the goat will be great.

Overall good experience. Ate Samosa chaat; vegetable noodles; Daal tadka and vegetarian korma. All the food was nice.

Some of the best curry we have had yet. We ordered 2 dishes and it was more than enough to feed 2 adults and two teen kids. Staff very friendly and good service. Would definitely return if visiting DC again.

Himalayan Doko is located in the heart of our nation's capital. From the outside, the restaurant can be easy to miss. Once inside, however, the restaurants is very nice. Portions here felt to be on the small side, and I would have liked some additional seasoning on my dish. With that all being said, Himalayan Doko is a good place to dine in or carry out for lunch or dinner. Street parking is limited, but there are several garages nearby if you happen to drive to this restaurant.

Absolutely delicious food, generous portions, lovely servers. Just magnificent. Everyone is so kind. And the food is amazing. Beautifully presented, great flavor, fresh, and abundant!

What a lovely little spot to have a delicious meal. The staff were super friendly, the food was super delicious, and the beverage list was great. I had the shrimp vindaloo and would highly recommend it! It was delicious and adequately fiery! I definitely plan to come back.

I came here at 7:30pm and waited in a super long line just seeing tables empty but not cleaned. Finally someone came to clean so we were seated. 20 mins later finally someone came to take our order. That was 7:50pm. It is now 9:10pm and still NO FOOD NO DRINKS NO BEER NO NOTHING has been served to us. This restaurant closes in less than an hour and we still haven't even seen our appetizers or food or anything. It is ridiculous of how long 4 tables here all have ordered and haven't gotten any food. Each table has been waiting for over 45-90 mins for their food. Finally we called the waited to ask us to at least bring our beer that we ordered over an hour ago. I don't even know how the food is going to be but it WON'T be able to make up for the WASTED TIME here. No restaurant is worth 2+ hours of wait before you even see the food being served. Absolutely outrageous. Update - Finally 100 mins of ordering the food, our food was brought out and some were warm and some were cold but nothing on our table was worthy of the 100 mins of wait for this food. But this still isn't the WORST moment. The check came promptly after and THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO CHARGE US 18% SERVICE TAX. Heck where was this 18% worth of service that you provided. I can mange this restaurant better than them. Absolute waste of time and money.

very underrated place, we had the korma and tikka masala and it was very good. the price compared to the size was one of the best ratios i've seen

Sensational. Good service. Get the momos (fried, vegetable). I don't typically get a vindaloo but I got the chicken one and it was perfect. Definitely spicy though so pair with a mango lassi. I drank my leftovers with a glass of milk like a child..hope to be back

A good thing is this is a Halal restaurant. Only chicken and goat meat and beef. Average taste. I tried both yellow tarka and black daal. Daal not great. Lamb chops were good and so was plain rice.

Very warm service offering tasty curries and kormas. Be sure to try the Kasmeri naan with your meal. And save some room for their homemade kulfi dessert. Will be returning very soon to try their Nepalese noodle dishes!

I tried the chicken thali and the garlic naan it was tasty and flavorful. The staff were also great and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

A Nepali restaurant recently opened at the place where Sakina Grill used to be. I ordered the thali with goat. Every item tasted very good. They were mildly spiced, more like home cooked flavor. And I loved the pickled radish in mustard. Packed extra to go. The guy who served me was very polite. It was a Saturday, past lunch time, so not too many people. I hope they do well as this'll be my go to for casual home cooked meals.

I've only eaten in a half-dozen or so Himalayan restaurants, but this is the best one I've been to. I tend to think of Himalayan food as less tasty Indian food. Well, these guys proved me wrong. It was delicious spicy food served in a beautiful space. The menu is extensive including some traditional Indian dishes which I did not try. But my oh my, the spicy chicken Momos and spinach chat were delicious. I'll be back although I don't live locally.

A fantastic place for both Nepali and Desi cuisine. Not expensive for DC prices and lovely seating. The service was great and relatively quick as well. Highly recommend for dine-in!

Good comfy food after a long tiring day...!!! The momos and the spicy Nepali chutney were like cherry on the top..!!!

Loved the food, however we made the mistake of not asking for a medium spice level, so was very mild. We had veg samosas, lacking a little salt but still good. We also had the tomato shorba which was so so delicious. We followed that by the paneer labadar and mattar paneer both good, but again mild. And paired it with butter naan, good, and aloo paratta, good. Ambience wise, it was cute inside, definitely more of a cozy vibe. Service was good, the only con about it was that the waitstaff weren't really listening to us, and were mostly jumping to conclusions. Other than that, love love loved the place and food.

The best food and the service. My husband and I had a great dining experience. We ordered a lamb curry and Tandoori Chicken Tikka. The curry was very flavorful. As for Tandoori Chicken Tikka, the chicken was very tender and nice flavor. The staffs are very attentive and pleasant. The place was clean and nicely decorated. The price was reasonable. We'll be sure to return. I highly recommend this place!

I wish we lived here so we could eat at this restaurant every weekend! We were visiting D.C. for 4th of July and chose this place based on it's menu and proximity to our hotel. WOW did we get lucky! I would go out of my way, metro, car, scooter, whatever-to eat here again. I had the Chana Masala (chickpeas in a tangy red sauce) and asked for extra heat-after a conversation on my tolerance and reassuring the gentleman taking my order, I received a perfectly seasoned large portion of just about the best Chana Masala I've ever met! And my partner had the butter chicken, and again, wow. He asked for it to be seasoned only mildly and it was perfect. There was enough to dip all of our order of garlic naan and enjoy it to the bottom of the bowl! We also had enough rice to take away to eat with the portion of mine that I couldn't finish. We were served by a super gracious person and everyone we encountered was friendly. We arrived early on a Friday evening and got a table right away-then the place filled rapidly and I was glad we had gotten there when we had. The other diners seemed to be familiar with the menu and perhaps regulars-in any case, it was hopping but we never felt rushed to finish and had all the attention we needed from our server. It was a terrific experience and is on our list for visiting again the next time we're in DC, hopefully when it is cooler so we can sit outside on the pretty patio. I'm going to duplicate this review on another site so it reaches plenty of people :) We were THAT excited about the food !

I recently dined at this restaurant and had an absolutely delightful experience. The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. We chose to sit outside, and the ambiance was perfect, creating a serene dining environment. What truly stood out was the owner's personal touch; their recommendations and taste in the cuisine were impeccable. We genuinely enjoyed our visit and will definitely be returning soon. This is undoubtedly one of the best Nepali restaurants in the DC area.
