I’ve had the pleasure of eating here twice and I can’t wait to go back again. The staff are super friendly and the food is high quality. Definitely a new favorite spot to eat! I’m vegetarian so I appreciate they have a nice selection of vegetarian items. The chai tea is delicious and alone worth going back for more.

Editing to note catering options. The catering options were fantastic and affordable, we received a lot of compliments on their food from our guests. Picture added. We also had leftovers for a few days which was also great. Original review: Good food and friendly service. The standards are good but I like some items that I think are less common, achari chicken, paneer chilly, bhanta aloo, malai kofta. I always leave here happy.

Google
Food is decent, 3 stars. Serviceperson is friendly, 1 plus star. Parking is at the back and always plenty available, I didn't see it and drove around, so you don't have to ^_^ Goat meat is the best one, the chopped red and green peppers are fresh, crisp, and soaked with the meat juice, very enjoyable. Goat meat is tender and savory. Other dishes are light and true to the original Indian and Nepalese flavors. Garlic naan is decent too. Momo is authentic, but if you have tried Xiao Long Bao or Ding Tai Feng, you can skip this.

Google
Well needed restaurant makeover took place sometime in the last few years. Nice and clean and new. The food here has always been tops. Can't beat it. I love their Molai Kofta.

Google
Absolutely fabulous food. I have never had a meal I didn't love and I always walk away with leftovers because the portions are huge! Definitely share each entree. Prices are wonderful!

The staff at himalayan kitchen are so wonderful and truly the food is the best Nepalese food in encintas! We love coming here. The vibe is nice and chill and just a wonderful place to come and eat

Google
I am so happy this is my local Indian restaurant. I can’t say enough good things about it. The tikka masala is delish and the paneer dishes don’t disappoint. They have all kinds of menu options. I never get to try them all because I love my favorites so much. I would go everyday if my waistline would allow for it. Thank you Himalayan Kitchen for doing such a good job!

Yelp
We had an incredible dinner at the Himalayan kitchen today. The food was delicious, especially the Chicken tanduri, Chicken Tika masala, Pokara, Momo's and Garlic Mann. The flavors were fresh, and the presentation was beautiful. The service was equally impressive--our server was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcomed. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxing meal. I highly recommend Himalayan Kitchen to anyone looking for a great dining experience. I'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
The delicious aromas from their kitchen can be smelled across the street. My husband and I finally decided to taste their tandoori chicken with tikka masala and have been regulars since! Our daughters love the naan bread and chicken korma. The vegetable samosa is our go to appetizer. We get everything at a level 2 out of 10 because we don't like our food too spicy. Twice, our friend from the U.K. (Indian heritage) ordered online to eat at home. My husband took a cooler to pick up the food and it arrived hot twenty-five minutes later. The quality and quantity are perfect for our taste. Definitely give them a try next time you crave authentic Indian food. *I will post pictures when I find them on my phone or next time we eat here.*

Yelp
Very nice Lunch Specials. For $11.95, you are served Lentil (Daal) Soup (4/5), Naan (5/5), and a plate with two Indian curries and bismati rice. Very nice presentation. My wife and I each chose the Chicken Chilly (5/5) -- pan-fried marinated chicken strips with bell pepper and onion, cooked with himalayan sauce. For my second curry, I chose the Chicken Vindaloo (4/5), which was very good, but I prefer their Lamb Vindaloo. My wife had the Chicken Tikka Masala (3/5) -- the sauce was too heavy. We also enjoyed an order of the Vegetable Samosas deep fried patties stuffed with spices, potatoes & peas. (5/5 $5 95 for 2 samosas). Service was good. Restaurant ambiance is casual with simple decor.

Yelp
Not my favorite Indian food. They could reduce the spice levels of a few of the dishes. This could just be that they are making from a different region than the restaurant I normally get Indian food from making it just not taste as good to me. The restaurant was also hot so that might have added to the issue as it's less enjoyable to already be too warm. The interior was interesting with pink walls and what appeared to be orientation art work on the walls. The service was rather rushed. Given to go boxes only about 15 minutes after getting the dishes that we were still eating and talking when brought. The place only had 3 other tables so they were not busy. It just wasn't that good of an experience. I wouldn't go again.

Eliko S.

Yelp
My parents and I enjoyed a delicious lunch today at Himalayan Kitchen. We had chicken momo to start and we all had the $11.95 lunch special. I had paneer tikka masala & chicken tikka masala. My folks tried some of the other curries on the menu. The lunch special also came with lentil soup for all of us and tons of naan. The soup and the naan were flavorful and plentiful. We received a good amount of food and we had leftovers to take with us as well. Service was friendly and efficient.

Patti C.

Yelp
The food in downtown Encinitas on the 101 is so much better then Encinitas Blvd. seem fresher and always someone in eating. Love that place.

Alan S.

Yelp
We ate everything. This place was so good and for the right price you can get the lunch special that comes with soup, the nann bread and your main dish. I just love the concept and the decor of the place. It is also much like taste of the Himalayas and I would say that if you're in the area and need a quick lunch spot that's good value and good taste come here because this is it. What I loved about the food is that it is cooked to order and you can tell the nann bread is so fresh and buttery totally worth it.

Jeanette I.

Yelp
Best garlic naan I've ever had- they add butter on top and it's so deliciously crispy on the outside but soft inside. The mango lassi is also to die for. We loved the grilled rack of lamb and the saag aloo too

Jen G.

Yelp
Ordered delivery for the first time. We've been eyeing this place for a while and had a coupon code. We ordered the butter chicken + lamb korma + chicken momos with the cilantro garlic naan. The curries blew us away and tasted like a home cooked meal. Extremely flavorful & the naan wasn't over powering. Both curries were mild and not spicy or greasy at all. We split the meal between 3 ppl & will definitely order out again. We've tried other Indian spots in the area but were turned off with the portions/pricing & Greasiness. Do not sleep on this place.

Spencer S.

Yelp
Part of the Sprouts shopping center. Full service, sitdown restaurant. Casual atmosphere. We had a large party, and they had an 8-person setting with a lazy Susan to accommodate us. Most of the other settings are 4-person booths if my memory serves correct. Great food, although I'm not usually exotic, if this qualifies as that. My brothers selected the spot, but I ended up being happy they did! If I could compare Himalayan food to anything, I'd say Indian food. We tried a wide variety of offerings including naan, dumplings, curries, fried veggies, and more. Even my picky baby wanted more!

Esther S.

Yelp
We have ordered take out from here a few times and the food is always decent and portions substantial. The order is always ready when promised.

Mai T.

Yelp
Sooo excited to finally have found a good Indian restaurant by me! We love the chicken tikka masala here! We also get the vegetable samosa and it's the perfect meal to split between 2 people. We come here a few times a month for take out. Thanks Himalayan Kitchen!

Brian R.

Yelp
We ordered delivery from Himalayan Kitchen in Encinitas tonight. It's a bit far from where we live, but I can't hold that against them. The food was excellent, the portions were large, and the rice was perfect. The papad was, well, papad. It seems to taste the same at every restaurant. I like tamarind chutney with my papads, but this came with only mint chutney. That's probably a regional difference; maybe in Nepal they don't do tamarind. Whatever--their mint chutney was excellent. The food was wonderful, and ultimately this is all about the food, but the wrapping and packaging of the food so that it could be delivered safely was very strange and complex and I made rather a mess unwrapping the tandoori chicken and putting it into a serving dish. I don't normally take photographs for my Yelp reviews, but I should have made a couple of pictures of unwrapping the chicken.

Mahak Jain J.

Yelp
Great food , average decor and service was quick . Their momos are worth trying and sauce which they serve is really great. You should defiantly try the almond naan and garlic herbs naan. It was really great taste. Portions were decent enough , we also took their special 911 sauce which is made from ghost pepper which was really spicy , took kofta which were not like kofta but had medium flavors , took Chana masala and mutter panner.

Joriene M.

Yelp
Food (5/5 stars): Himalayan Kitchen in Encinitas definitely made it to our top 3 Indian spots in North County! We loved the Paneer Tikka Masala and Nawaratan Korma and preferred the Tikka Masala. But both were so flavorful and the spice levels are on point. Highly recommend! Experience (5/5 stars): * Price: reasonable * Wait Time: minimal on a Friday night around 5pm * Service: very good and friendly * Parking: there's a parking lot * Ambiance: it's well decorated and traditional

Thomas B.

Yelp
Friendly service but if you say no spice they make it spicy :( The owner needs to be less aggressive about asking for reviews and be more keen on providing good food

Pam S.

Yelp
We absolutely love this restaurant and visit at least weekly. The food is simply the best we've tasted in this genre. We have taken many friends including East Indians, vegans, vegetarians and omnivores to sample their food. To a person, they love it and become regulars as well. The service is excellent. The servers are knowledgeable and extremely polite and gracious. They want you to enjoy your dining experience. The ambiance is open and airy with definite touches of Asian and Nepalese influence. Very comfortable and enjoyable. Plenty of free parking. And the prices are very reasonable. Give them a try! You will love them too.

Samantha W.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the food here. The vegetable samosas had a nice thick dough outer layer which was super crisp on the outside. It was nicely seasoned and I believe with msg too. It had nice flavor. The filling was nice, dense but fluffy. The vegetable biryani was the most flavorful and aromatic biryani I've had. Really nice. The butter chicken was yummy. Delicious flavorful sauce. The chicken was cut into kind of long slices. I think it could've been nicer if they were cut into smaller chunks. The lamb korma was super delicious. Super moist, soft and juicy lamb. The sauce was really good. My husband had the garlic herbal naan. I thought it was going to be fresh herbs but they were dried which I wasn't the biggest fan of. Food was great. Kind of awkward vibes though with no music and nearby standing around.

Seymour M.

Yelp
I had a great time here at Himalayan Kitchen. The food is super good! The staff is cheerful and polite. The ambiance is chill and amazing!

Bella D.

Yelp
I LOVE this place !!! I enjoy coming for the lunch special - M - Fri 11am - 3pm. You get two curries, soup, and naan for $12! great deal. The food comes quickly and it's hot! It's flavorful and the staff is great! this is a retailer spot for me

George A.

Yelp
Good food and good service! Fits our $50 date budget. We tried a perfect combination of Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Korma with their Garlic Cilantro Nan. Both have rich flavor and lots of protein. The Tikka Masala exceed our expectations while the Korma did not. Maybe be cause we ordered the Lamb Korma and the Lamb overpowered the Korma Flavor. The staff's very friendly as well.

Lori T.

Yelp
We were a party of 7. orders consisted of vegetable momos , chicken tika, a lamb dish, naan, something for the vegan diner and some other curry type dishes which are all served in a nice brass type pot. rice is served to share. only service issue was poor timing regarding delivery to the table. the food was tasty. next time i would be sure to get the tandoori chicken. it comes out sizzling on the platter!

Alana P.

Yelp
New favorite Indian place. Great tasty food, with a lot of meat and all my go to foods (special note to the butter chicken and palak paneer). Only had this to go so I can't speak to ambiance or service.

nico c.

Yelp
8.5/10. Probably the best Indian spot in Encinitas. Service is okay but the food is good.

Chad D.

Yelp
Great restaurant with great service. The food is incredible and you have to try the garlic naan. We had the chicken tikka masala and the vegetable Momos which were both super tasty. We're looking forward to going back!

Sara E.

Yelp
This place is so good. The food is so fresh and delicious. Got takeout last night for SO and myself. It's enough food for at least 4 meals. Such a great addition to our town.

Joy H.

Yelp
I live 80+ miles away and just recently discosvered Himalayan Kitchen. The food here is outstanding. I always order takeout. My go to is the lamb choila. Level 3 spice is perfect for my palate. Have also tried the samosas, daal tadka, ram torya, badami naan, garlic cilantro naan, and mango lassi which are all wonderfully fresh and delicious. I will eventually get around to trying more items on the menu. Thank you!

Nikhil U.

Yelp
The food here was very good and the service was excellent as well. Chicken momos - 5/5 - These were as good as you can get outside of India/Nepal. Flavourful and moist filling with a perfect dipping sauce to go with it to add some spice. Alu Paratha - Perfectly spiced and generously stuff paratha Goat Masala - 7/5 - This one was just excellent. Sometimes goat curries end up having more bones than meat but this was not the case. Paired up really well with the garlic cilantro naan as well as a the jeera basmati rice(that came with the curry) Garlic cilantro Naan - A rather large portion of a single order. The naan was soft and perfect to eat with the goat curry. The person taking our order asked us to just get 1 instead of 2 orders of the naan that we would typically order for the 2 adults and i appreciate the guidance since it was large portion of naan compared to most other places.

Jeff M.

Yelp
This place is great! Lunch Special is the deal Of the Century. They give you a big portion. Always leave stuffed and happy. I like this place better than the Himalayan place on 101.

Jenna K.

Yelp
My husband and I love it here. We dine in and get take out and the food is always consistent. Owner is very kind.

Twiggy B.

Yelp
The ABSOLUTE BEST Indian cuisine. We used to live in San Diego and now live in Phoenix. We come back every time we are in town, usually the first night we arrive! We've tried at least a half dozen Indian restaurants in Phoenix/Scottsdale and none compare to HK. We also always frequent Indian restaurants when we travel and still have not found any restaurant on par with HK. Their naan is perfectly made. Their Lamb Korma and Chicken tikka masala are so tender and the sauce is always perfect. Truly a gem in Encinitas

Wendy

Yelp
Very good! We come at least once a month because we enjoy the food and friendly staff.

Griseth Z.

Yelp
A dear friend recommended this restaurant for Indian food. I very much enjoyed every dish we ordered. Often times I hear from different sources Indian food can be "too spicy" or other terms, yet I do enjoy indulging in different tastes and giving those taste buds a surprise. We ordered multiple items from the menu that were popular, such as the Chicken tikkamasala along with rice and other side dishes from the menu. It was so delicious! I highly recommend for a friends nite, family nite, or date nite as the ambiance inside is unique and inviting.

Shannon H.

Yelp
There are a lot of Himalayan spots popping up all over San Diego but THIS spot is the real OG. Himalayan Kitchen is in a small strip mall next to sprouts and looks unassuming from the outside. It feels like a traditional old school restaurant on the inside but don't let that fool you. The food is out of this world good. If you have never had the pleasure of experiencing Himalayan food, it's basically everything you love about Indian food but better. The flavors are familiar, yet distinct. The chefs food feels so comforting and homey like you just sat down at a grandparents house for a great meal. And they give you a lot of food for what to pay, which I feel is rare these days. The people who work here are also SO nice. I can't say enough good things about this place and we haven't even got to the food. I love their samosa appetizer (they are huge and delicious) and always order it with the cilantro mint sauce instead of the standard tamarind sauce it is served with. Pro tip: get both! I also really like the chicken momos (Himalayan version of a dumpling) that they fill with a tonnn of chicken and serve with this amazing sauce. I haven't tried everything as their menu is pretty extensive but some favorites are the Lamb Biryani, Karahi Chicken, Chicken Korma and anything tandoori. I always like to get a side of the raita (yogurt sauce with cucumbers, mint and spices) and put it on anything and everything. This spot is delicious. Give it a try next time you're in the mood for good food!

Elle J.

Yelp
Today is my first day of school... I'm getting a certificate in marketing which has been taking me forever. I keep putting off my final unit but today I start the class I need. Basically all of that is a whole lot of words to explain why I felt I could treat myself to an Indian food lunch... because it's a bit decadent to eat such a meal in my car... if you were in the parking lot and saw me eating deepest apologies. I am a messy eater. I always pass by this restaurant when I go to the neighboring McDonald's for my "good girl ya didn't stay in bed" Diet Coke. I figured that they would be super expensive so it was a surprise to find that they are not exorbitant (looking at you Pho place across the street ... ) and they have a lunch special! Two curries, soup, rice, and naan for $9.95. You shouldn't order on Yelp if you want it to go. To get the special as an option you should go to their website and order. I saw that two of the curry choices looked yummy... paneer tikka masala (my go to!) and coconut veggie curry. Soup: Light flavors that were delicious without being overpowering. I typically eat in small amounts throughout the day. So I had the soup at my lunch hour and while it's not a huge portion it was definitely more filling than I thought it would be. Coconut curry: full of veggies with a real coconut flavor that is still savory. Love all the veggies! Paneer tikka masala: again very good. I guess more paneer would be good. But For the price it's great! I asked for it to be spicy and there was a small kick. Better than nothing! Mango lassi: whoaaaa talk about that mango flavor! I could just have this drink for a meal!

Lisa T.

Yelp
The food here is very good, nice portions and quick service. I like to go for a late lunch and always have leftovers for a second meal.

Yvonne M.

Yelp
First time here. The food was amazing! Service was great! The portions were good. Definitely be back

MC S.

Yelp
The food here was so delicious & fresh! My friend is a vegetarian and there were many options. She had the mushroom tikka masala and I had the shrimp saag. The garlic cilantro naan bread was so good! We will definitely be back!

Les V.

Yelp
Worth a trip. We ordered the Goat Curry and Nawaratan Korma (mixed vegetables, tofu and paneer cooked with nuts, raisins, coconut and himalayan spices and herbs. It was a great combination. (Note: Like all the goat dishes I've enjoyed, there are bones to deal with.) I'm looking forward to going back and trying other dishes. (I was really close to giving them five stars but this was my first visit.)

bre a.

Yelp
I love this place! But the guys who work there rush you if you're having a drink. This has happened to me on multiple occasions where they have verbally judged me for ordering a second glass of wine and i have ever ordered one glass they have tried to pull my 1/2 finished glass from the table before I finish. Not sure what that is about. The guys also will stare at you to pay when the check comes and rush you out. It's very uncomfortable. I have stopped coming here because of these two things. Other than that love the food. It's always perfection! Atmosphere is amazing and quiet.

Anya B.

Yelp
Amazing!! One of the best local spots by far. Food is so delicious and always wonderful. Staff is super kind and very thoughtful. Very nice for a sit down meal but lovely as well for takeout. One of the best local spots. I love this place!!

Andrea L.

Yelp
wonderful! everything we ordered was healthy and delicious. Service was outstanding and the atmosphere was lovely. I highly recommend this restaurant for a delicious lunch or dinner.

Debbie H.

Yelp
I checked their website before we drove all the way there... there was nothing about no lunch specials this week, but there was a sign on the door that they were not doing the lunch menu this week (12/25-1/2). Annoying very annoying as it is pricey for serving size The dishes we had were good - tikka masala sauce was yummy and an eggplant dish had nice flavor. Nice atmosphere...

Gary P.

Yelp
Tasty food, great lunch special combos and even Mango Lassis for those who want to indulge their sweeter side. Have had a mix of items here including chicken tikka from the tandoor, veggie korma and chicken tikka masala. Pretty much what you'd expect from solid Indian cuisine. Right amount of spice/hot, right amount of flavor and a solid portion. A nice addition to downtown and a welcome change from the former restaurant that was 2.5 stars at best. Thanks for setting up shop in Encinitas.

Jeff Y.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch with my parents on the way back from San Diego. The interior is decorated with lots of intricate paintings and decorations, and reminded my parents of their trip to Nepal. I was excited to try momos here, as my mom told me about her experience having them in Nepal, and it's not commonly found in the U.S. We were disappointed that the lunch specials were not available during our visit, as it looked like such an amazing deal. That said, the owners did offer us a cup of lentil soup. As it turns out, the lunch specials are not available on weekends OR holidays, and the Monday we went was an observed holiday for the holiday the day before (Sunday, July 4th). The menu is extensive and the food, including rice and naan, tasty. Service was friendly and courteous. Prices for entrees were on the higher side, and only come with rice (naan must be ordered separately), but portions were large.

Matt J.

Yelp
Tasty food here. Got the lunch special which comes with lentil soup, naan and two curries. We also ordered papad, it was okay; it didn't really seem fresh. It came with a mint chutney, it was pretty good but it was lacking heat. I got the chili chicken and paneer tiki masala. The soup could have been a little more hearty, maybe more lentils? The chili chicken was good, nice charred flavor, a little oily. The paneer was tasty, they did a good job on the sauce. My only complaint with the curries was that they lacked spice. I ordered a 7 out of 10 and it still was not spicy. I wondered if she mixed up the spice levels because initially the server brought out the paneer with some other curry that I did not order. The chili chicken came out shortly after but there could have easily been confusion from that. Definitely check this place out, great deal for a lunch special.

Alexis K.

Yelp
Lamb Tikka Masala - the perfect spiced dish for a cool night. I have lived down the street for years, and I completely neglected myself the pleasure of this establishment until today! I can't wait to try their other menu items soon!

Pamela A.

Yelp
I love this restaurant! Clean, helpful staff and delicious Asian Indian food. You can't beat the prices, and portions will send you home with take out bags! It's located next to my favorite thrift store and grocery store. Very handy!

Lou B.

Yelp
This is our first time to this restaurant. We ordered salmon Tikka Masala and vegetarian masala. The flavors of the curry has a deep taste and it did not disappoint our palate. The service is prompt upon order, clean snd relaxing ambiance. I would definitely come back.
