Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen - Review - West Loop - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This is the second location of Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen, a casual restaurant serving spicy momos and other Nepalese, Indian, and Tibetan food in the part of West Loop that’s basically the South Loop. Besides dishes like goat sekuwa and chicken chhoela, you can get North Indian staples like chicken tikka masala and palak paneer. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

The food here is absolutely delicious, bursting with authentic flavors. The environment is fantastic, and I confidently recommend it to anyone seeking genuine Nepalese cuisine in the Chicago area.💕

The food is amazingly authentic Nepali food. We had momos (dumplings), curries, naan bread and rice pudding and it was all amazing. The price was a bit high but this is speciality food in downtown Chicago so it is hard to complain. Parking added into the total so that it was a pretty expensive lunch, all in all. The staff was incredibly warm, friendly and welcoming. I know it is stereotyping which is not good (or wholly accurate) but my experience with Nepali folk has always been very positive. The restaurant was in a bit of an old and rundown building but they did a good job of decorating in a way that largely covered up the age of the structure. Regrettably, in the restrooms, the age and rundown nature of the building was on full display. Pro Tip This amazing shop is just down the street a block or two from the Greyhound Bus Station (and similarly near Union Station and Clinton Subway station, which connects directly to O'Hare) so if you have a layover in Chicago, this is the place to spend it.

I am a super picky eater so when I went here for the first time, I ordered a lot of different food to try. Plus my daughter loves Indian so I had promised her left overs. Everything was phenomenal. The spicy dumplings, the samosas, the chicken curries, the bread. It was the best Indian food that I have ever had. My friend got the butter chicken and she said it was the best she ever had as well. The restaurant itself was very plain but it was clean. The bathroom was clean. Lots of vegetation options. I had the vegetarian samosas and they were crunchy and delicious. Truly just a hidden gem of food. People were all friendly and service was fast and professional. Check it out you won't regret it!

I can not understand for the life of me, why would this establishment think it's okay to charge $16.00 for Rice & Gravey? The quality of chicken is Thigh meat(dark meat). You are charging top tier prices for lower grade like it's Breast meat(white meat) Then it's not even seasoned there is no flavor to this food just spice & heat. I refuse to support this restaurant with their low budget food, Terrible Customer service & Overly priced food.

The tas was good and cholla even though not authentic enough was good too. The non-veg thali was disappointing as the lentils and chicken lacked the spice.

Absolutely loved this place! It’s a newly opened Himalayan restaurant, and you can tell they’re really putting their heart into it. The food was amazing — we had the chicken soup and lamb curry with rice, and both were full of flavor. The curry was rich and aromatic, and the soup had that perfect home-cooked vibe. You can taste the effort and care in every bite. Totally coming back — this spot’s a hidden gem!

My husband and I had a lovely dinner here! We were surprised that it wasn't busy on a Friday night, but the place was immaculately clean, and we were greeted right away by the server. My husband is vegetarian, but I love meat. The chef was nice enough to divide the momo plate, so half of it was vegetarian and half of it was chicken momos. He even threw in an extra momo, so the numbers were even for us although it's usually served with 9 momos. The sauce for the momos was especially tasty, not made bland for "American" taste buds. We also ordered the hearty kwati & vegetarian thakali (which had several small cups to try). All of the dishes + the garlic naan were divine, & we waddled out of the restaurant happy and with leftovers. Most of the dishes were on the spicy side, which I appreciate. If you don't like spice, you might want to ask for a mild version of the dish. It's not a fancy restaurant, but everything was pleasant, and this is a great place to stop in for a meal!

Authentic Nepali Food I had the Nepali Thali at Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen, and it was absolutely fantastic! Each item on the plate was bursting with authentic flavor — from the perfectly spiced lentils to the tender curry and fresh pickles. It truly felt like a taste of Nepal. The balance of flavors and the presentation were spot on. Highly recommend if you want a real, satisfying Nepali meal!

Yelp
I am so glad I came here for lunch! The food was flavorful, decently priced, and the service was efficient and helpful. If you've never had a Momo they're kind of like dumplings in that they can be filled with meat or veggies and are often either fried or steamed. But the flavor profiles of Momo's to dumplings are VERY different. I've had a lot of Momo's and I've never been too big on them, but this place changed my perspective. Their C-Momo's were crispy on the outside juicy on the inside and had a great meat to dough ratio. But the best part about it was the spice! I told the waitress I love spice and my word they spice it up. I love when a place isn't afraid to make their dishes spicy! The chili sauce on the Momos not only enriched the flavor and juiciness of the Momos, but also compliments the sweet bell peppers in the dish as well. Overall, the dish was great explosion of flavor, textures, and heat. If you like chili chicken, it's a similar flavor, but a very heightened chili taste. I also got the Mustange Piro Aloo. It's this crispy but soft potato dish that also has an excellent dry spicy. I will warn you these potatoes come out HOT so definitely wait for a bit to let them cool. This dish also has a similar spice level to the c Momos. But unlike the Momos, the aloo is a dry spice that has a closer flavor profile Szechuan food. Not the numbing nature of it, but use of toasted dry spice with that pepper heat. The flavor was great but my favorite part of this dish was how perfectly cooked my potatoes was. It has a nice thin crisp with a soft and pillowy interior and with the dry spices it creates a great balance. I highly recommend getting these dishes spicy. If the heat is too much wash it down with some of their Kheer (rice pudding)
