The 20 Best Restaurants In St. Helena

"When you’re looking for something different from all the American and European food that dominate the valley, try the Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen. This casual spot also does a serious takeout business, for those nights where you can’t pry yourself off the couch. Start with the vegetable momo, with just the right amount of spinach and spice, followed by the lukshya saag in a rich curry sauce, and the machha ra bhanta with fresh salmon. One perk of dining in: you’ll probably make friends with the owner and hear all about his annual trips to Mt. Everest." - christina julian

Google
Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen, a small and cozy Nepalese place, is an excellent option for lunch or dinner. Seeing an Indian restaurant in the description initially scared me as I thought it could be too spicy, but the food was excellent and perfectly seasoned. Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Momo were great. The service was very welcoming. I definitely recommend this place.

Google
This restaurant is my favorite as a local, the food is always perfect every time. Service is top-notch and everything is delicious. My only feedback is that I wish that the food was spicier! I think their spicy is pretty mild and I want to be able to kneel at a medium haha. It's still delicious regardless.

Google
Amazing food and short wait time. Butter chicken is delicious and the mango lassi is silky smooth. Prices are very reasonable for such good food. Comfortable chairs and has a few tv's. Definitely coming back soon!

Google
A wonderful experience from start to finish. I ordered the Paneer Tikka Masala Thali, and it was everything I hoped for—gently spiced with a touch of sweetness, made with incredibly fresh ingredients, and clearly cooked with care. The Naan was also outstanding- soft, warm and perfectly made. It reminded me of the comforting, soulful food we’d serve at home. My daughter had the Veg Momos - good in flavour but the real standout was the exceptional chutney that accompanied it. The staff were kind, professional, and attentive. The overall environment felt welcoming and genuine. A wholesome, soulful experience I’d recommend to anyone looking for real food and real warmth.

Google
One of my favorite restaurants in Napa Valley!!! Consistent food every time I come and the staff are efficient and pleasant. Dishes are good servings and very favorable and balanced.

Google
We’ve been coming here for two years and loved Sherpa until the last six months. The food has become bland/inconsistent in flavor levels (especially the tandoori) and the older male server has a very rude and brusque attitude. We’re sad because this was our favorite restaurant in St. Helena - it used to be so lovely.

Google
Small restaurant. I've past this place multiple times. I stopped in cause a lady in the area recommended it, I'm so glad she did. This place is a must if tour in the area. Very small restaurant might be 40 - 50 seats. Extremely tasteful in every bite and in every dish we had. Will definitely be back.

Google
My parent’s first time trying Nepalese food, and they loved it. We got the Kukhura Ra Bhanta, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Momo, Lamb Tikka Masala, Garlic Cilantro Naan, and Mango Lassi. All dishes were flavorful and left clean!

Yelp
I've wanted to go to this place for years when I was in college because I heard it was really popular, but I never got around to it so here I am. I came in and ordered the chicken tikka masala (spicy) w/basmati rice, garlic cilantro naan, garlic basil naan, and buttery naan. I also ordered a glass of riesling. The tikka masala was soo good. It was spicy and flavorful, but not too spicy to the point of being overwhelming. The rice that came with it also was pretty solid. All of the naan were yummy as well. When paired with the tikka masala, it's a match made in heaven. The service here was good also. Our waitress was kind, timely, and gave great menu recommendations. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. The parking situation in this area can be a challenge depending on what time you go. Fortunately, I lucked out and was able to find a parking right in front of the restaurant. Try it out if you like. :)

Yelp
Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen is one of my favorite lunch spots! Every time I visit, I get the chicken tikka masala, and it never disappoints. The flavors are rich and vibrant, and the spice level is just right--spicy means spicy, which I love! Pairing it with their perfectly fluffy and flavorful garlic naan is a must. The service here is always consistent and welcoming, and they can handle large parties with no problem. Even during peak lunch hours, it's never too busy, so you can enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. The cozy atmosphere adds to the experience, making it a great place to relax and savor authentic flavors. Highly recommend this place if you're craving delicious Himalayan cuisine. I'll definitely keep coming back!

Yelp
We came for lunch on a Friday - their lunch specials are huge portions of food. We got the chicken tikka along with lamb momos, and it was more than enough food for 2. Service was quick and attentive - a great option for lunch after wine tasting!

Yelp
I came by tonight with a group of 3 people at 5:45 pm. The restaurant was empty other than two other tables. We just stood at the door for a few minutes until anyone came out. After ordering, the food took awhile to come out. But once it did, everything was good. The least favorite was chicken Momo. A little dry . The eggplant/salmon curry tasted great. The spice had a kick but nothing where you felt you can't eat it. All of the naans were fluffy on the edges and crisp in the middle like a cracker. At around 7 pm, the restaurant was packed. All in all, good spot despite food taking awhile. Street parking only

Yelp
The food was sooooo yummy, I love lamb and they cooked it perfectly. The service was accommodating and me and my friend had a great time. I highly recommend trying it out! (Especially the lamb dishes)

Yelp
Small menu, but delicious! Tiny space decorated very cute and clean. Fast service and friendly staff. We showed up around 615 and by the time we left at 7pm the place was packed. Love that they had brown rice option for sides. Perfect spices very delicious and healthy!

Yelp
This is a good escape place. If you do not want the buzz and a crowed of one of a "proper" Napa Valley iconic restaurants, Sherpa provides just that. A small place, staff is friendly, service is fast, food is good. They have a surprisingly good wine list, you will not find Beringer, Caymas or Venge on the list, but they have a few good wines from Knights and Alexander's Valleys. Lamb in curry, mixed sizzling plate, tikka masala - always a safe choice. Place is located in the heart of St. Helena, easy to get to. Best part - you will pay "regular" price for a good food, what is rather unusual for St. Helena :)
google avatar

Mary D.

Yelp
Chicken tikka masala is really good. Definitely go when they have their lunch menu because it's the bang for your buck. You get naan lentil soup and veges all included. We were disappointed when we realized on a weekend everything was a la carte. Great beer and wine pricing too which is hard to find in wine country. Staff is super nice and ambiance is great. The place fills up quickly as it's small. Definitely worth a visit
google avatar

Nikhil D.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was moderately good. They forgot my chai which I had specifically asked to bring right away. I ended up not getting it at all. Overall good experience.
google avatar

Rupali J.

Yelp
Too small , crowded restaurant, service was very bad . Food came out after a long wait and was not flavorful but just spicy
google avatar

Angie K.

Yelp
Nice find in St Helena. Combination of Indian and Nepal food. The tandoori and chicken tikka masala are very good. The dumplings has different seasonings so it is different than the othe dumplings. Nice friendly staff, you should call for reservation if you have a big group.

Yelp
Went here for dinner with my fiancé and had the Himalayan salad, veggie momos, and Alu Cauli Kerau Potatoes for dinner. The Himalayan salad was refreshing and all the ingredients blended together harmoniously. The house dressing was a light vinaigrette that had a hint of sweetness and balsamic vinegar. The veggie momo was delicious and paired well with the light tomato sauce. Got the Alu cauli Kerau dish in medium spice and it had a nice kick to it. It was not oily and the flavor was unique and yummy. The steamed brown rice was cooked well and not dry nor crumbly, and the garlic cilantro naan bread was buttery and delicious. The ambiance was casual and nicely kept. My fiancé and I agreed that we enjoyed the food most out of all the Himalayan restaurants we've gone to.

Keith B.

Yelp
Food is always consistent and packed full of flavor. I highly recommend the lamb tiki masala will be dining here every week
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
We stopped here for dinner after a long day of travel and a winery tour. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We ordered the shrimp salad which was fresh and flavorful and the Saag Paneer with naan. It was brought to our table quick and hot. Although we should have asked for a bit more spice, the paneer was flavorful. The atmosphere was cozy and clean. We would definitely go back
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing authentic food with partial service that needs to catchup. Busy hours do tend to dim the service experience but the food would make you want to come back!

Yelp
We were in Napa for my daughter's birthday. We ended up choosing this restaurant and we were extremely satisfied!! The food was amazing and the service was above and beyond! They even brought her dessert on the house for her birthday and it was amazing! Definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
We were really craving some delicious Indian food our last night in Napa.... We did a little searching on Yelp and found this place to be very close by... We were so happy that we made the drive in the pouring rain... I feel terrible that I did not take any photos of the delicious food we ate which was the lamb and chicken Momos( dumplings) so flavorful and delicious. Of course my favorite which is the Teaka chicken masala, as well as the vegetable curry medium spice... we decided to have the garlic basil naan, so Light and fluffy... We had just visited B cellars winery so we decided that we would bring our own bottle of wine to enjoy with the delicious food that we had. The owner was our waiter, and very graciously chose to not charge us a corkage fee. So sweet... 11 years at the same location . they do very well they take reservations and we highly recommend you make one . you will not be disappointed the Nepalese food is delicious. And the service is outstanding...

Yelp
Wow what delicious food. I can't wait to come back. My friends and I were famished after wine tasting and this place was nearby and vegan friendly so we gave it a try. They do have a couple hours between lunch and dinner service where they close FYI, but we made it with an hour to spare. We ordered a couple apps as well as entrees and everything was bomb. The pakoras, samosas, veggie momo, and my tofu tikka masala were all perfect and flavorful. Trying pakoras and momo was a first for me and I absolutely would do it again. I also tried garlic butter naan and the basil naan (naan isn't vegan but I'm a flexitarian lol) and wowwwwwww had to take some as leftovers for another day. Yummy. I want to come back and try more from this menu. They do have a handful of vegan options, as well as a beer and wine menu. Service was friendly and the environment was relaxing and quiet. This would be a nice place for a date too just saying.

Yelp
I wouldn't know much about the Indian restaurants around here but coming from Sacramento, Ca (1.5 hrs away) it's the best food I've had in a long time. The mango Lassi is perfect - light, good quality, semi sweet with a touch of ice. Mmmmm Chicken tikka Garlic cilantro naan Sizzling plate Lamb, salmon, shrimp - this was ok (only 2 pieces of shrimp) Must go - friendly staff and a good satisfying comfort food style meal! I'll be back!

Yelp
Our pregame faux #tailgating ritual continued for #fridaynightlights. We were seated quickly and pleasantly outside. The service was impeccable and they answered every question as if we were the only guest. Then the meal came and everything was exceptional. The tikka was the best I've had since London . I give it #leftyeats

Yelp
This Nepali place is my go to for lunch when I am wine tasting in the heart of Napa valley. They have a reasonably priced lunch special that includes entree, rice, dal and side of sautéed vegetables. I tried vegetarian one that was like navratan korma, mixed vegetables with paneer in a creamy sauce, hubby tried the chicken version, both tasted very fresh and delicious. The garlic sautéed broccoli was so much better than expected and yellow dal/lentil was so comforting with basmati rice. Service was a bit slow coz they only had 2 people running the place, but overall great food.
google avatar

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Really good! Such a relaxing experience drinking their comforting chai masala tea and eating their delicious chicken momos and their unique basil-garlic naan. The saag paneer was good, but these other dishes were stellar. The staff is so friendly, and the outdoor seating has a heater. Get there an hour before close, and they'll pour all the extra masala chai into your cup :) 5 stars!!!!

Yelp
Nestled in the heart of the St. Helena business district is this gem of eastern cuisine. The restaurant is small, but the food makes up for what the space doesn't. Service was fast and the staff were attentive to all patrons. I heard a few people being called by name. Who doesn't want to go "where everybody knows your name"? The food was amazingly delicious and beautifully presented. I highly recommend this culinary jewel of St. Helena, California!
google avatar

Candice H.

Yelp
This place is delicious. First time I came I got the saag paneer (named something different, but same idea). It was too spicy for me to manage. However, we came back again and tried more. Here is what I recommend: - somosas, great texture - momos- all kinds, surprisingly, the lamb was my favorite over the chicken! - chicken and yogurt dish- super tender chicken. - lamb and yogurt- very good and not gamy. Service is great. There's a small outdoor seating in the front, but that option is too cold for me. We are always wined out by the time we get there, but it does help with the excessive consumption!

Michael S.

Yelp
The food and service are top notch at HSK. There is a wide variety of items and spice levels from which to choose. The team is cheerful, passionate, and more than willing to guide you through the menu.
google avatar

Priya K.

Yelp
You have to serve great food to survive on St Helena high Street and Himalayan Sherpa kitchen is no exception. Excellent Indian food serves as a great break from the default wine, cheese and meat fare. The naan is noteworthy. The curries are flavorful and tasty without overwhelming. Momo was the only dish that fell short. Price is very decent and services friendly. Recommended!
google avatar

Heather O.

Yelp
Everything was perfect, but the cinnamon cardamom ice cream just made it all the better.

Yelp
We were lucky to find this local gem on a quick trip to St. Helena. Friday night with no reservations and the need for outdoor dining was a challenge. We also wanted to eat vegetarian. Happened to see this restaurant along the Main Street, stopped to look at menu, and ordered a few dishes. We have been to Nepal and this neighborhood place brought back those memories. Service was very attentive and fast. Food was super fresh and delicious. The Tandoori Salmon was enough for two people and yummy. Large, fresh pieces of fish baked in a tandoori oven, sizzling hot. The naan it came with was also yummy. The veggie momos were super tasty and flavorful. Samosas were comforting and hearty with fresh mint sauce. Dad loved the prawns. Definitely get the mango lassi too! We noticed a lot of orders for takeout so the locals are in the know. Outdoor seating was nice. We will definitely be back! So glad we found this amazing restaurant. It's a casual interior but it's a comforting, fresh made, full of flavors and the Salmon was better than at most "fancy" places. We were welcomed with kindness and left with happy bellies.

Eric P.

Yelp
We really loved this place. The food was amazing and a great price. The food came out on time and ready to eat. The service was wonderful and we would definitely comeback.
google avatar

Josh C.

Yelp
Fantastic and super cute. Open on Christmas Day. Family run establishment. Great service and great food.

Taylor W.

Yelp
Lovely little hole in the wall but the vegan Momo is AMAZING! We went back the next day and got two more orders to go for our drive home. The servers are also so attentive and cheerful.
google avatar

Cesar M.

Yelp
This is a great place to eat when you are out and about in the Wine Country. It is a small place and can feel a bit crowded, but it is so worth it. If you like spicy food from the Himalayas, then this is the place to go. I will definitely come back again, and again.

Eve C.

Yelp
This is the one place we often visit when we come to St. Helena. A mixture of Indian and Nepal dishes. Food is always delicious. Small, but conveniently located in downtown, parking lot shared by Sunshine supermarket and a couple other business right across the street. Highly recommend Lukshay La Phing (lamb with glass noodles). Their garlic naan is also a stable that aways does its part. Loved their Sizzling Lamb.

Mauricio M.

Yelp
Amazing Food and service. The food is really authentic and absolutely delicious. This restaurant won't disappoint you.
google avatar

Wing C.

Yelp
Delicious dinner! We cane here on a cold cold night, so glad that we decided to come here instead of other restaurants around. Their price point was in the middle $20/dish, not too shabby! We ordered the lamb momo and eggplant curry to share. It was just enough for the both of us so I was super happy . It was a comforting meal after a long day!
google avatar

Renata S.

Yelp
Great Himalayan food! The chicken tikka masala and garlic naan were especially delicious, full of flavor. Food came relatively quick and portions are a bit small compared to other places.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
One of the top finds of 2022! It was a strange cool day in the area and we just were looking for some comfy feel good food. Woah, this place was amazing and I cannot wait to go back! Ordered - Garlic Naan - perfectly cooked- make sure to order curry or masala to dip - Mono Steamed Veggie dumplings - best sauce came with these - Vegetable Pakoras - fried veggies, yum! - Tika Chicken Masala - ordered it mild, if you like heat the medium is pretty hot!
google avatar

D A.

Yelp
Stopped in for takeout on a busy night. Got curry chicken with medium spice and it was perfect...super spicy but edible. We also got chicken tandoori. There was so much chicken we ate it for lunch the next day. Lots of peppers too. We got bone in. The eggplant/mixed veg cakes, pakoras I think they were called, were also good. There was four of them and we only had two an reheated the other two in our air fryer & they were even better. Support these folks, they do a great job and we want them to be successful! They restaurant is really nice for dine in, service is nice, and I recommend them highly.
google avatar

Ron B.

Yelp
A tasty treat. My son and I ordered the spicy version of the curry. It definitely had a kick, but was still pleasant to eat. My wife chose the medium heat. It has a slight kick, but won't scare anyone. The server was friendly. The buttered naan bread was excellent. Both my wife and son commented that it was the best they've ever had, and the word, "excellent" was uttered.

Yelp
The food here is absolutely DELICIOUS! I found this spot on yelp, read several reviews that sounded very promising and that's all I needed to make my decision. We showed up around lunch time several tables outside were available, but we decided to go inside where it was nice and cool.Friendly young lady sat us right away, ice water for the the two of us and beer for the wife.we started off with vegetable samosas (they were great) that comes with a mint dipping sauce,I'm not a mint guy my wife loved it.For main course wife had beet salad she loved it!My main course was Lukshya Saag tender cubes of lamb cooked in curry sauce along with rice.we ordered a side of garlic naan as well.My meal was nothing less than perfect in every way, tremendous eatery I would highly recommend. Thanks!

Barbara M.

Yelp
Our new favorite! Delicious food (posted food pics the last time we were here). This one is of Cameron, our very gracious and helpful server. Very friendly staff and quaint restaurant with indoor and patio seating. Can't wait to visit again!
google avatar

Yelp
THE best salmon dish to ever exist under the sun. Cilantro naan is delicious, love everything on their menu.
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
I like Indian food, a lot. So when one goes to a restaurant repetition is a must! I cannot say that about H.S.K., where the staff is so limited that one is forced to remain calm for over an hour to be fed and the food is different each visit. In total though multiple visits, I have had approx. 11 dishes and cannot say any are memorable at all or taste like Indian food at times. Get some help PLEASE, try and stick to the recipe for repetition and for goodness sakes, smile. I know its work for you but we come to relax and pay for the experience.

Yelp
Best veggie momo i have ever had because they had so much flavor unlike all other momo i have had the chicken momo was also tasty mango lassi was super sweet service was excellent and fast will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful food, but, sadly, no butter chicken. The garlic naan was off the hook delicious,
google avatar

Lior G.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the food. We're definitely going to be back. Also, lots of excellent vegan options.

Yelp
Located in the heart of St. Helena, Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen offers a bite of spice in between wine tasting excursions. The Mixed Grill Tandoori was a "surf and turf" combination of two huge chunks of leg of lamb, two juicy prawns, and my favorite, a super thick fillet of salmon, all served on a sizzling metal plate with onions and peppers and topped with fresh spinach. Each of the meats had been marinated in yogurt and spices and came out perfectly charred, tender, and flavorful. But I was an even bigger fan of the curry dishes (tarkari). The Machha Ra Bhanta was a curry of tender salmon and eggplant in a garlic ginger sauce, and the Lamb Tikka Masala came with chunks of lamb in a smooth, creamy, tomato-based curry. I ordered both of these medium, and both the dishes came out plenty spicy and flavorful. On the side, the entrees came with a choice of rice or flatbread, and we ordered all three versions of naan: plain, garlic cilantro, and the most unique, the basil cilantro, which came with pesto spread on top, adding an herbaceous, olive oil flavor that paired perfectly with the chewy flatbread!
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
OMG this place was sooo good! Great service, a nice amount of vegan options and excellent wine menu. This was a nice option for vegans in what I found to be a very unfriendly vegan city. :/
google avatar

Sanjay P.

Yelp
We as a company of four had our lunch meals just yesterday at this intimate family run establishment by who else but a hospitable Nepalese family. The server was very attentive and accommodating when we sought a dish replacement wanting spicer prep. With three vegetarian and one fishiterian (?), our needs were varied but we left the place well satisfied w no room for any dessert. My prep was tandoori salmon w basmati rice, Nepalis dal , fresh and just right hardness garlic butter naan , so heavenly, and broccoli sabzi. Salmon was crisp exterior w soft inside and a good size potion . All in all , a good value lunch meal to my heart's content. The ambiance was just normal and the restroom was impeccably clean. The housekeeping was in line w the pandemic / endemic protocols. The seatings inside and patio were comfy.
