This place was amazing. The food was so authentic it honestly made me feel like I was back in Nepal. Every dish had real Nepali flavor and tasted homemade. Huge shoutout to the chef, Karun dai you can tell he really knows his craft. Also, our server Swostika was super kind, friendly, and made the experience even better. If you’re looking for real Nepali food and warm hospitality, this is the spot. Highly recommend! 🇳🇵❤️

Great place for Indian and Nepalese food, with a lot of options. I tried Paneer Tikka Masala with Brown Rice, and thought it was pretty good (although it could have been a little more spicy). Great service as well. If you don't find parking in Solano Street or simply don't want to pay, you can find some free street parking around 7-10 mins walk from the restaurant (for example, Marin Ave near the fountain).

Best Indian food I’ve had in a while, and my new go-to dinner spot after work! Momo is squishy and delicious (especially lamb!) curry was perfectly seasoned, and the naan was so scrumptious I couldn’t stop eating it (especially cheese naan omg!)

I was in Nepal, and this place is a pleasant reminder of the incredible master under the roof of the Himalayas. Delicious, authentic, I recommend it to everyone! Dhanyabaad!

Tried and true favorite in the area! The curries are flavorful and thick, portions are super generous, and you just can't beat their special lunch menu for value. I do not usually like lentil soup, but the one they make here is magic. SO MUCH FLAVOR. Physically I am at home, mentally I am here on a cold fall day sipping a hot bowl of that soup. Staff is super friendly and fantastic too.

Yesterday we got chance to try food at Himalayan Tandoori & Curry house at Albany. Loved the taste and authentic vibes there. Momo stuffings is best there. Go and say hello to them.

My husband and I love this spot and regularly enjoy the lunch specials here. I recently ordered the pumpkin chicken curry and he ordered the chicken saag. Both were so good that we didn’t share! Lunch specials come with white or brown rice, lentil soup (yum), and very fluffy naan. Pair with a hot chai and it’s an excellent meal.

I absolutely love the Himalayan Tandoori & Curry house. The vegetable biriyani and the chicken tikka masala make for an excellent combo (and I try to be vegetarian, but it's just so good!), and their veggie samosas are some of the best I've ever had. I tend to order delivery from them a lot more than I go in to eat, which makes me feel sad because it keeps their restaurant looking emptier and I want them to succeed and thrive, but honestly I love their food so much I just often order it just for myself and have delicious leftovers for the next day (or two). And eating by myself in the restaurant isn't my jam

Scratched the itch for butter chicken! We ordered the lamb curry and butter chicken. We were able to substitute both of our rice for 1 order of naan, which is unfortunately because 2 naan instead of 1 would've been nice. This forced us to order another naan. Anyway, the food looked deceivingly small, but they actually packed a good amount of protein. Flavors was good too (surprised some reviews said the food was bland). They hit the right balance for mild spiciness at least for me hehe. Long story short: good food, decent prices.

Had a craving for some butter chicken and naan. My husband decided to try the Lamb Curry ($16.99). On the menu the curries, including Butter Chicken ($17.99) comes with rice, but I asked whether I could substitute that with a plain naan instead. It was only a 51 cent difference which I would've been willing to pay, but the server said that wasn't possible, and we would only be allowed to substitute the rice for BOTH curries in exchange for 1 portion of naan. I'd understand if they just had a no substitution policy, but this came off really stingy to me. 1 portion of naan wasn't enough for the both of us, so we ended up ordering another one for $3.50. Anyways, the food itself was very delicious nonetheless! The curry dishes looked small, but there was still a good amount of meat that filled us right up. I'd for sure be willing to eat this again.

Took my wife for her first try. She really enjoyed the mixed tandoori and curry chicken. The food was fresh, plentiful and delicious. Service was fine and restaurant clean and welcoming.

This is a great place. I've eaten here 3 times. I don't remember what I had the first time, but it was good enough that I thought "I'll try it again." The 2nd time I ordered Chicken Curry, and my girlfriend ordered Chicken Biryani. Both were fantastic! I had regular naan with the curry, and it was made perfectly. The 3rd time....which was tonight....I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala with onion naan, and my girlfriend AGAIN ordered the Chicken Biryani. Again, superb. The Chicken Tikka Masala was slightly different than the other CTM I've had, and I asked the owner....she said that since it is a Nepalese restaurant the spices are a little different than in an Indian dish. Well let me tell you it was a killer dish. I am going to order the CTM again next time I'm there, which will probably be in 2 weeks when my college buddy visits from out of town. I told the owner "this is great onion naan" and she said "my husband made it." ! So it's a wife/husband duo that runs and cooks. Truly excellent. My girlfriend recently moved to a new place, and asked if she might order a platter or something for a housewarming party, and was told 'yes'....some sort of semi-catered dish/arrangement appears to be in the works. This is a great place. I'm going back for sure.

I have never had Himalayan style food but Tandoori being in the name led me to believe that it might be similar to Indian food which I love. We were the only people in the restaurant for most of the time, so it was very quiet with the exception of takeout customers coming in and out. It was mid-day and mid-week which probably explains that. We ordered 2 dishes one of which was like a sampler of 3 different items called Daal Bhat Tarkari and the Himalayan Biryani both of which were amazing and plentiful. One item would have been enough for both of us, but was excellent as takeout over the next couple of days. We also ordered one order of Garlic Naan Bread, which might have been the best I have ever had. I could have just eaten 5 pounds of that (JK). Just wish this place was in my town, as opposed to being about a 45 minute drive.

Located further up on the quieter part of Solano up near Berkeley Hills, this small, unassuming establishment houses some of the best Indian/Nepalese food we've had in awhile! My wife wanted to celebrate her birthday dinner at a more casual restaurant this year, and was craving some Indian food. She stumbled upon this place on Yelp, and wanted to try it out given the high reviews. We stopped in around 7pm without a reservation, and there was plenty of available seating inside. For our first visit, we opted for the chicken coconut, fish tandoori, a side of garlic naan, and a plate of chicken momos. Everything was delicious, but we ESPECIALLY enjoyed the momos (big, steamed dumplings) and the chicken coconut. The entrées each come with your choice of white of brown rice on the side. Service was friendly and prompt, and we've been back several times since. Sometimes with friends whom we appear to have converted to loyal followers.

Everything was delicious!! We ordered the chicken tikka masala, garlic cheese naan, palak paneer, and the chicken momo. My favorite was the palak paneer but everything was AMAZING! the naan was so soft and everything tasted so fresh! 10/10 recommend !! Staff was so sweet and the food came out pretty quick as well.

The Samosa Chaat hits the spot for a savory/sweet meal. I've ordered it for pick up 3 times now and I plan to again. It's my go to dish at this restaurant. My meal is always ready on time, and the service is friendly and attentive.

Himalayan Tandoori & Curry House is available for indoor dining only. the menu was so large, i just went for the lunch specials. too many choices! offerings: small Nepalese section (incl. pumpkin specials). tandoori, large selection of Indian entrees. eats: Chicken Tikka Masala (10.99) lunch special -food came out in 10ish minutes, it wasn't scoop ready everything item tasted freshly made, unique for lunch. -naan was puffy, freshly made, no black spots....best ever tasted! -fresh soup, fresh crunchy salad, brown rice was flaky, crunchy, fresh -chicken pieces were a mix of tender and chewy dry pieces. not surprising as chicken simmered with masala to flavor it. -masala sauce was thick, bursting with flavor, passed on spicy-not a fan of hot foods. take outs: -free papadum with yelp check-in, passed. lunch special had lots of food. -top quality eats. -vegetables come from their own farm.

Cozy and unpretentious, the service at this Himalayan spot is pleasant and the food outstanding (while still affordable). We had the goat curry which goes by its native name, lamb momos and a plate chicken biryani, all shared family style. While mild as requested, everything was nicely seasoned and the flavors and sauces--one for the mom's and the other a type of raita--mixed and complemented each other beautifully. 100% recommend!

Today is Vietnam War Veterans Day.. My beautiful wife is so sweet always remembering to take me out to a new restaurant and we just enjoy our company together and good food and are our friendship that we share so closely. She's a beautiful soul and takes care of this whole veteran very well. Practice makes perfect. This is a family run operation and everyone in the family works here and makes everything from scratch daily. That's why the food is so incredibly good on so many different levels you have to eat here to understand that no 2 sauces will be alike on your table. Rita our server was so wonderfully helpful to us interpreting their large and beautiful menu. They have so many items I have never seen before that the explanations were necessary. I'm glad the rush hadn't started so she could explain the nuances of all the beautiful details of the dishes we ordered. There was just the 2 of us but we ordered enough for 4 people because we wanted to have food for lunch tomorrow to take with us. We ordered Dal Bhat Tarkari Which is a classic napoli's style dish served with lentils steamed bus muddy rice and AA curry it comes out on a tray with bread rice and a soup as well it's absolutely delicious. The next thing we ordered was onion naan bread which is interesting because they offer at least 10 to 15 different types of this kind of bread. Then we ordered the Chana pumpkin. This is an Nepali garbanzo bean cooked with pumpkin and house blend of spices stew. Then we ordered the Royal Himalayan Pioneer. It has Indian cheese cooked with the mix of creamy tika masala sauce and curry sauce blended together in wonderfulness fullness. And our last dish was festival momo. It's steamed mixed vegetable and paneer dumping Served with homemade dipping sauce. Of course I had to wash it down with some of the Flying Horse Lager from India. My wife and I thought the entire experience was worth 5 stars. The service was sweet and honest and informative. We were made to feel comfortable and welcome. The food was so incredible on so many layers of flavor and color and textures it was amazing to behold it coming to the table. The whole experience was amazing.

Looking for tasty Indian cuisine? Then you found the right place! Himalayan Tandoori and Curry is fabulous. I thought it was high time I finally did a review of this place after coming here all year long. We discovered this restaurant through DoorDash roulette. We just picked up a group and looked under the recommended places. We've actually tried about four or five other places but we keep coming back to this one because it is consistently good, the flavors are rich, and the price is reasonable. FOOD: other than my craving for dosa, this place takes care of it all. Their naan is fresh and delicious (we highly recommend the aloo naan - potato naan). The butter chicken has a rich, creamy sauce we can dip into for days (not literally because we eat that up). And their samosas are hearty yet surprisingly light at the same time. They use good quality ingredients and it shows. We love their gulab jamun to finish off a meal. The dal tadka is a bit inconsistent but with so much else going for it who cares? Oh and the pakora (both vegetable and chicken) are wonderful bites of flavor. SERVICE: Since we only started coming in Covid times, we have an actually been to the restaurant but they always package our food nicely and it always arrives hot and fresh. It's hard to ask for much more than that. COST: If there is any flaws, it would be in the cost range. But for good Indian food this place is charging about what other places charge. So even though prices are always a bit high, the food itself is definitely worth it! We wouldn't keep coming back if it wasn't. In fact the only reason I haven't done a review earlier is I keep forgetting to take pictures before we eat it all up!

Second time ordering from them. The food arrives on time, is warm, and is tasty. I will order again and will refer friends.

What a lovely restaurant! I've only recently started eating more Nepalese food since moving to the Bay Area, so while I'm no expert, the dishes here were fresh, delicious, and incredibly filling. We came for lunch on a slow day and there was only one other person during the hour who dined in. Our server was kind and attentive, routinely filling our waters while also giving us a lot of privacy. We ordered the Chicken Momo to start, and I totally underestimated how filling it'd be! I probably would've only ordered a small dish afterwards if I knew, but instead I got the Himalayan Biryani (a mix of chicken, lamb, fish, and shrimp) which came in an incredibly generous portion for $19.99. I enjoyed the fish and shrimp the most. The Iced Chai was also delicious and creamy. I probably would've stuck to water or tea if I'd known how filling everything else would be, but it's definitely a nice treat if you're craving something cold and sweet.

(Customer experience during Covid-19 Pandemic) My momo craving hit recently, so I went to where I was familiar. While standing in front of their window studying their menu, I saw their sign to please phone in your order. So I called and while making my selection and going back and forth about a couple of things. She said it would be about 20 minutes and I could pay when I came back, so we waved to each other and I went for a quick market trip to Andronico's up the street. I ordered all Nepalese dishes - Chicken momo, Khasi ko masu, Veggie chow mein, Pumpkin chicken curry. Also ordered garlic naan and rice. I would normally ask for it to be spicy hot instead of medium, but when I'm sharing with my husband he can no longer tolerate the heat. Everything was still delish. Momo are best when they are just out of the steamer. We had a 20 minute drive back home so they suffered a little, but were still tasty, especially with their sauce. The Kashi ko masu was pretty bony, but the sauce is full of flavour and excellent over rice. We also enjoyed the pumpkin chicken curry. Large cubes of pumpkin and plenty of boneless chicken was also quite flavourful. The spicing on the chow mein was different from anything I'd had before. It seemed a bit dry but I don't have anything to compare it to. I thought the naan was overcooked. The flavours were good but it was also a bit dry and tough. When I picked up my order, everything was packed tightly into the bag. I was a little concerned because I have had takeaway orders packed in similar fashion and they have tipped over on the drive home. Hubby secured the bag between his legs so if they did leak, it would just be on the floor mat and not all over the seat and his lap. It was extremely gratifying to see that all the food was well packed and not a precious drop of sauce escaped their containers. That is a big hurrah! I noted that Covid protocols were observed throughout my transaction. There was another worker in the dining room and they were both masked up. I also noted there was hand sanitizer in the dining room, not necessarily available to customers, though. I would still feel comfortable ordering food from here.

I ordered delivery via yelp and was really happy with everything. I ordered the chicken momo (spicy), lamb momo (spicy), garlic naan, and lamb korma (very spicy). The spicy level was not very hot for the momos, but I loved the kick that the "very spicy" level had. Each order of momo came with 9 pieces. As far as the naan, it was cut into 4 large pieces. Pros: -food was delivered relatively quickly and came nice and hot -food was delicious! My favorite was the lamb momo, but everything was flavorful. Cons: -delivery didn't come with utensils. Be sure to ask for that if you need it Overall, I would love to order from here again!

I wouldn't go again. Apparently they have a farm but the salad was so old and limp with dry carrot bits it definitely looked like prepackaged salad. And the tables were sticky with food leftover from previous diners. How are they getting such good reviews? I don't like to leave bad reviews but these are such basic things and have to do with food safety. Please do better.

The food was delicious! I started with the Vegetable Samosas and the seasoning was great! I love the tamarind and green sauces that go with it. The Garlic Cheese Naan was the best I have ever had. It was perfectly cooked with lots of cheese inside and just the right amount of garlic. The Chicken Tikka Masala was also excellent. The chicken was not over cooked and the sauce was prefect. I got it spicy, which was not very spicy for me, but it had just the right heat. Again, the consistency and flavor were perfect. I ate way too much but I couldn't stop myself it was so good and it can be hard to find great Indian food. Next time I'm up here, I'll have to try the Nepalese food.

Ordered samosa chat and veg pakora. Samosa chat looked like it had all the necessary ingredients and smelled great but tasted sour. Major imbalance of flavors. The chickpeas weren't cooked at all and yes it was dumped straight out the can! That's not how you do samosa chat! You're suppose to cook the chickpeas in blends of spices and curry. Thus, samosa chat was a fail! Veg pakora was soggy, lacked salt and crispness. However, the imlee and mint sauce that came with it made up for the lack of salt. I did finish the pakoras but couldn't have another bite of samosa chat! Update: woke up with an upset stomach! Never eating at this place again!

Cheese naan and pumpkin chicken curry were well executed and delicious. Veg biryani was in need of flavor that the sauce from the curry satisfied. Makhmali naan didn't match the description. Held pink coconut and lacked identifiable cherries, cashews and raisins per the menu description. Veg momo filling was a finely chopped mush that distracted from any flavor the dumplings may have held. Willing to try again due to the naan and flavorful curry, definitely turned off by the mushy veg momo.

The store pitched a tent and was selling some of their dishes, and we tried them. We were so blown away on how good the samosa was - best samosa ever - that we knew we needed to come back and try their dishes. Returning quickly to the samosa, the outside was flaky and light, and the inside was packed with soft and rich potato. The whole dish was unbelievably light, that even after eating two samosas, it wasn't weighing heavily on my stomach. It was a memorable samosa. Onto the main experience, we went at the dinner hour for a relative's birthday dinner, since they love curry dishes. For the dinner, we decided to try new dishes, so we ordered the Daal Tadka, the vegetable Pakora, the chicken momos, and the vegetable chow mein. The pakora arrived first, then the chow mein, and then the Daal Tadka and momos came afterward. Later, we also ordered a plain naan because the Daal Tadka needed the naan to scoop up the different curries and soups. Every dish was so good, it brought up a smile upon our faces. There was a pleasant wow factor in each dish that left a lasting impression even as I write this review a day later. I was surprised with the chow mein for one because it was a taste that is usually accompanied by any chow mein in most Chinese stores. It taste was strong and vibrant like soy sauce, but there was something different about it. It also reminded me of tomato. Whatever it is, we cleaned up the plate easily. I also enjoyed the pakora; a great dish to start the dinner. It had a crispy texture and the vegetables were sweet. The momos were juicy and the skin was thick but chewy. I would warn others to eat these momos early on. We left them, so we can eat them periodically, but once they turned cold the skin was harder to cut with a fork. These dumplings also pack a lot of punch in stomach volume, so one will get full pretty fast. The final icing on the cake was that the prices are extremely reasonable. My family was very content and full in their stomachs, and the prices were less than ordering a ramen bowl each in the city. We were very happy of the dinner experience.

I was wondering why I liked this place so much, and then I discovered the owner also operates the genuinely appetizing Mount Everest on Telegraph Avenue south of the UC campus (review: http://bit.ly/2SzdByW). I still dream of their chicken momos. Clearly the same quality of ingredients and recipes are going into both operations, and I could certainly tell from what I ordered here. They offer a lunch special menu seven days a week from 11 to 3. That's like every day. Consistency is so underrated. I tried the $9.99 Pumpkin Chicken lunch special. It was fresh pumpkin and boneless chicken cooked with garlic, ginger and onion served in a little cauldron accompanied by dal, a scoop of brown rice, a mixed greens side salad drizzled with their sweet house dressing, and warm naan (photo: http://bit.ly/2F2yKin). It was quite delicious for such a reasonable price. And to think, I could have it every day. But I won't. I will come back for one of their other pumpkin dishes or the lamb or maybe the momos. Mmmm. Well perhaps it's because we were first in the place this evening. Perhaps because I had a skinny vanilla latte 2 hours earlier. Maybe the weather dampened my taste buds, most likely just not in the mood for Indian-Himalayan. Bae loved her curry lamb and while I enjoyed my grilled chicken, it was too much food. Vvvvrrrrp! Stop... rewind that "it was too much food".???? I suppose this entry is to share, but it was all I ordered thank god! Four grilled chicken breast with caramelized onion and peppers on a sizzling plate. Four chicken breasts people! That plus rice... plus garlic naan...omg carb overload! Couldn't finish it. Two lovely chicken breast in I was stuffed! The vibe was intimate and the take out orders were clicking in like clockwork. Then as we ambled up to leave we noticed the place quietly filling up. Friday night on Solano has officially begun. So many choices so little time! My only negative was the waitress, who was very nice, couldn't help us with their encyclopedia of a menu. Fortunately there were pictures. But even at that they don't do it justice. I wish they offered a lunch buffet so we could try a variety of things. Considering the parking kar-ma and the full rainbow it may be our lucky spot. Definitely will try again soon... hopefully when I'm craving curry!

Delicious, fresh and flavorful Indian food! I was pleasantly surprised by the superb quality of vegetable samosas, Chicken karhai, butter chicken and garlic naan we had last night. The restaurant has a nice ambience, the hostesses are very courteous and overall the service is great! I would highly recommend trying this restaurant if you enjoy north Indian food and are in the Berkeley area.

The food here was amazing! We loved everything we ordered -- butter chicken, lamb korma, lamb momo, and garlic cilantro naan! Service was friendly. Super cozy ambience especially on rainy day like today! Glad we found this place. Would definitely come back when we're in the area.

The butter chicken lunch special was bomb! Reminds me of the oh-so-perfect slightly sweet butter chicken I had at Almonds in Pokhara, Nepal. What a rare and amazing find. The lunch set came with a small salad and soup that were both delectable as well. Parking was ample.

Delicious Himalayan Bryani. Can't wait to eat in person next time. Nice ambiance. Convenient location.

Very good food, I came here with my girlfriend for dinner and the staff was very nice. Cute little spot in Albany. Highly recommend the butter chicken, but make sure you get it spicy! I will be back again.

We have a shorthand for food like ghis: "SBG". Salty But Good. Far too many mediocre cooks use the shortcut of extra salt to mask prep/cook errors and substitute for flavors. That is "SAB" cooking. This restaurant served delicious food lovingly prepared to the spice level i desired (hot!) when i was there last month. Through the heat and under the extra salt, however, here i tasted a lovely melding of well-chosen spices. Friendly service and pleasant ambiance, completed the enjoyable dining experience. If you like salty food, you'll find this a five star establishment. I will return *despite* the chef's heavy hand on the salt shaker and will give a fifth star if all the positives of last visit (my first) remain and I am able to request more restraint re: salt.

My boyfriend took me here for Valentines Day and the food was SOOOOO GOOD!! The only thing is we ordered a medium butter chicken expecting it to have some spice but there was none. Next time we will be getting extra spicy!

This is my second time here and it's just as delicious. Very authentic and flavorful. The naan is homemade and delicious. I've tried a lamb dish, chicken dish and vegetarian chana masala. All were excellent. I highly recommend. Will definitely make this a weekly lunch stop. Oh and they have a lunch special that's a great value as well!!

I was ' pleasantly surprised ' the lady stated all their Meats are ' Kosher - Halal '. S...o..o..I decided to order via Doordash. I noticed they are open until 9.30 p.m. - a li'l over the ' Usual Berkeley ' - 9 p.m. closing hour I find a bit Inconvenient as compared w/ S.F.'s ' Traditional 10 - 11 p.m. ' Deadline. I ordered the ' Halal Chicken Broth ' 4 my Sore Throat '. Also the Lamb Vindaloo w/Brown Rice. Rather on the Expensive side ' marketwise '. Lamb was a bit Tough. Luckily came w/Rice. I had requested Chai that didn't arrive. I usually frequent ' House Of Curries ' on Solano Ave - their Meats are ' Usually well Cured ' & Tender ... Was ready 4 ' A varied Flavor ' though... All in All was good Grub!!!!

I experienced significant digestive upset after eating lunch here. It was the first food I had eaten all day, so it's difficult to attribute it to anything else. The service was great, though.

Great and attentive service, diverse menu, inviting atmosphere, and delicious food. I went for a weekday lunch here specifically to try their lunch specials and it did not disappoint. Each special offers a variety of food, which includes your main entree, rice (white or brown), salad, soup, and naan bread. All specials are under $10. I chose the chicken daal, which was yummy and filling. My husband had the chicken tikka masala, which was also tasty. Highly recommend. Free parking around.

We had several entrees all delicious but the steamed chicken dumplings were so outstanding as was the pumpkin curry dish. In sum, everything was so tasty and the service fast and efficient. A hood tone was had by all!

First time here and I have to say that it did not disappoint. It was between this place and the sushi spot next door, but through the window we spotted the dumplings the patrons were eating and they looked too good to pass up. Those turned out to be momo, we got lamb, great choice. It came with a mild, nutty, tomato-based sauce that complimented it nicely. In response to my husband asking for a house hot sauce, they brought out this yellow creamy habanero sauce - do it - it livened up the mood of the remainder of the meal. Garlic naan was deelish, and even though I'm not quite there, my husband said this was the best Tikka Massala he's ever had - it had a hint of sweetness to it, the tomato really came through. Overall, a straightforward but unique and delicious combination of flavors. And attentive customer service.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise. On a recent trip to the Bay Area, we went looking for a spot to eat lunch. It was raining and many places were closed due to the holiday. We stumbled across this place and decided to give it a try. The menu was quite extensive but we opted for the lunch special. Everything was under $10 and included salad and naan. The food was outstanding! I have eaten a lot of Indian food, both good and bad. This was one of the best I've ever had. Full of flavor and as authentic as it comes. The lunch portion was quite filling and well worth the price. If you find yourself in the area, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Delicious fresh food. I try something new each time. Since it's fall I decided to try their pumpkin curry and it was delicious. Their naan is exceptional, fluffy and light. The ambience is simple, cozy no-frills most importantly the food is spectacular. I must add I'm a vegetarian and they have a large assortment of dishes to choose from.
