Where to Eat and Drink in Sebastopol

"In a squat parking lot off of the main highway in town, this Nepalese restaurant dishes out some of the best, reasonably-priced food in Sebastopol. The vegetable biryani is $19, but is a veritable wealth of rice, and sides like the pakora run just $7. The aloo tiki comes in a cheerleader pyramid-esque temple of fried deliciousness, perfect for any road-weary traveler." - Paolo Bicchieri, Maria C. Hunt

Google
I was amazed to find a really good Indian restaurant in this area (where probably a lt of Indians don't live 😅). Nice casual spot for a a super yummy Indian meal. The flavors and the authenticity are spot on. Loved the food and will try it again if we're there. Check it out.

Google
Delightful. Delicious food, perfect spice level (they asked), lovely ambiance. Service was amazing. The menu is clearly labeled vegetarian, vegan, different meat options, dessert and even a drinky-poo if you want one.

Google
I came here with 2 other people and we got to share the pumpkin curry with lentils, garlic naan, aloo naan, mango lassi, chai, pecora chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, and rice. Everything was overall very tasty but very pricey and the portions were small but I do think it is a good restaurant that is worth trying because it was very tasty but just pricey and small portions. I recommend trying this restaurant. They were understaffed and slow, but it was a family owned restaurant so I understand.

Google
Pros: food was absolutely fantastic 😋 the restaurant was very clean and atmosphere was attractive. We sat by the window which gave us a wonderful view of the plants that are outside. Definitely would recommend. Cons: a little bit pricey but worth it. Waited at the door for 10 minutes, another couple pointed out the waiter was on his phone. Then I stood at the cash register for a few minutes waiting in front of him on his phone. I decided to not speak up to see how long it would take. Was pleasant experience other than the wait which to be honest I could have spoke up in the beginning and more than likely gotten seated quickly. Would highly recommend and would go back again. The food was very flavorful and salad was awesome. Great vegan dishes and appetizers.

The food is cooked with love and tastes authentic. We have been coming for a few years now. The quality is consistently good. Chai is good.

Google
Delicious food, great service, and again DELICIOUS FOOD. Stopping here is a must if you love authentic nepalese cuisine! 💕 Also I did see some reviews about it being pricey. I totally disagree. You get a lot for what you pay. I selected the Chicken Tiki Masala at I believe around $20 and that came with soup and my choice of brown or white rice. I also ordered a side of naan at maybe $4-$5 and there was more than enough leftover to have for dinner later on. You get more than what you pay for is all I’m saying, given the quality and quantity of food served. All in all it was about $20-$30 per person with a drink.

Google
My friend and I sat outside in the garden with our dogs, what a fabulous lunch! Chicken/coconut with delicious gravy, Nam bread with garlic and cheese, goes well. Top with Tai ice tea. The service felt so personal and helpful. Had a great dinner there with my husband for Valentines Day. Can hardly wait to go again.

Google
Yummy dishes, a focus on healthy food, and warm service. They use good cooking oils too, which shows awareness to what really constitutes healthy food. Followed up a few years later: still amazing flavours, friendly service, and full range of menu options.

Yelp
We chose this restaurant as it was walking distance from where we were. I had eaten here prior to the pandemic and I remembered their lunch specials very fondly. As we walked in, we were greeted warmly and asked to sit in the back next to a window with a nice view of the outdoor dining area. The exterior has lots of pretty plants and bamboo so the cars traveling on Gravenstein Hwy are hidden pretty well. We had the sweetest server, Sunita. She was pleasant and personable and easy to chat with. I reviewed the menu and didn't see any lunch specials. Sunita said they no longer serve lunch specials. I was very sad. So instead we ordered the pumpkin curry (chef special of the day) and chicken curry with brown rice and naan bread. The lentil soup was a nice start to our meal. It was pureed and tasted lovely. We ordered our curry mild/medium spicy. Our food looked wonderful when it arrived. The rice and curries came in small metal bowls. The spiciness was perfect and both curries had a robust rich flavor. There were four small cubes of chicken in the curry, tender and well seasoned. We both thoroughly enjoyed both curries but our favorite was the chicken curry. It was divine! The naan bread tasted fresh and complemented the dishes well. I look forward to returning soon and hope Sunita is there to greet us again. Located directly across the street from Fircrest Market.

Yelp
So so yummy! Small, authentic restaurant with delicious food and kind service. Ordered the chicken momos--juicy and delicious; palak paneer--divine; and the garlic basil naan--absolute perfection. The restaurant was quiet on a weekday evening, and enjoyed a wonderful dinner here. Wish we weren't in town visiting so we could've kept our leftovers and enjoy every last bit.

Yelp
The food is delicious, authentic and well priced! My favorites are the eggplant curry and samosas.

Tricia C.

Yelp
Lunch was delicious. Pumpkin curry, vegan. Whole sections on the menu for vegan and vegetarian. Curries, biryani even wine if you want some. Entrees include rice and Dal soup. The naan is worth getting

Yelp
I went here with my cousins to have dinner. I must say I am a bit apprehensive sometimes with Indian style food. Simply because it is way too spicy for my palate. However I was quick to find out that this in fact was Napal cuisine, although similar to Indian, perhaps not as spicy. So I was in for a sweet delight. Himalayan food I learned was quite different. \ BTW we order 2 Naan breads, one plain and one garlic. OMG, I ordered the garlic and thought I went straight to Pizza heaven..it was that good. Yes, I am part Italian, hence the Italian dabs every now and then. Lol The soup that we started off with was wonderful!! ( photo below) I ordered a Chicken dish that was typical and it was not spicy. I like spice, but not when it burns my mouth and stomach. This dinner was perfect. Our server, she was the best!! I love this place and would return upon my next visit.

Yelp
what a perfect meal for a colder/rainy day. ordered the lunch special: Goat curry, comes with rice and lentil soup. we had the choice of mild and spicy. We opt for spicy, but it was still pretty mild. Turns out we should asked for Nepalese spicy if I want some serious heat! The garlic naan, soooo fluffy. They are perfectly delicious on its own but definitely a game changer to pair it with the curry! Had the Lamb Tandoori, just like other dishes, chef's kiss. It was tender and full of flavor. yummmm. there are other drinks on the menu, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. but i think mango lassi is THE drink to get! you wont regret it. I didn't even i am lactose intolerant. service was great! And we are coming back for sure.

Yelp
By far my favorite of the three in Sebastopol. Came in an hour before lunch service ended to find it fairly empty (my preference). The owner/server was super nice and helpful. I had the lamb curry and it was delicious! I asked for spicy and they delivered. The naan bread was yums. I will definitely return.

Yelp
Came here recently for lunch with a friend, and I must say, the second visit was much better than the first. I got the coconut veggies with butter naan. It also comes with complimentary dal soup, which was lovely, and rice. The coconut veggies were everything I want in a curry--creamy, flavorful, aromatic, and it was a respectable portion size. I was able to bring some home. It wasn't too spicy which I've come to appreciate as I've been having stomach issues. The naan was fluffy and buttery with crisp edges. Service was fast. Overall, a great lunch. Best I've had in a while. Glad I tried them again.

Yelp
Had the chicken chili and it was phenomenal!! My husband had the chicken tika masala and also loves it. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Yelp
Having traveled to India and Nepal, I can confidently say this is great Nepal/Indian food! It has the traditional foods you will recognize like tikka masala and biryani and all of it is good! We have taken many people out to this restaurant and everyone enjoys it.

Yelp
On a recent road trip up north I chanced upon this restaurant. Got good reviews so I needed to try it for something different. I even had my husband explore a different kind of dish. We tried the Garlic pesto Naan chicken Tandoori and Lamb Curry everything was delicious.... I should have taken an after picture as we finished everything on our plate. Food and service was amazing..... I instantly hit it off with Ruth who is the daughter of the owner. I would have to make another 9 hour trip to see her and eat again at their restaurant. The reviews live up to and more with this restaurant..... definitely a must try! If you're local .... lucky for you.

Yelp
Delicious food, fresh ingredients and wonderful staff. Plus, we love supporting family-owned businesses. Can't wait to come back and try the whole menu!

Yelp
Great food , friendly service and affordable, A super find in Sebastopol. Cannot wait to visit again .

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch after wine tasting in Windsor. The restaurant was recommended by one of the nice folks pouring wine at a neighboring wine room, Mengler. Being unfamiliar with Himalayan food we were cautious. The food is very much like Indian-food, but elevated and even a little lighter somehow. We ordered an appetizer and the lunch combo. They stared us with a hot cup of a broth yellow lentil soup. Which was a great start from getting out of the rainy weather we'd been having. We got vegan MoMos to start. They were unbelievable. So so good. Then the other dishes came. We shared Tofu tikka masala and vegan mixed vegetables. They customized the spiciness to order, and did it very well. The main dishes can with brown rice, naan, and papadum. All delicious. We were so thrilled with everything it was hard to focus on just one. The preparation and balance of complex flavors was perfect for us. We will definitely come back anytime we're nearby. It's the kind of place you want to send your friends to so they can enjoy a meal that's truly great. The atmosphere is pretty basic. They have extremely relaxing music playing, which added to our experience. The staff couldn't have been nicer or better in any way. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Himalayan Indian Food is amazing! Their food tastes just like what I imagine authentic Himalayan cooking to taste like. The kabobs, curries, and breads are so good. I love that their veggie curries are organic and homegrown. If you want a delicious and different meal, try this place!
google avatar

Leslie K.

Yelp
Really good food especially for vegetarians. I love the lentil soup and palak paneer. Friendly staff though I think they're all family. my only criticism is that the service can be really slow at times.

Rachel C.

Yelp
This place has been a long time favorite until now. This was the best curry in the area however they must have recently changed their recipes. Their chicken tikka masala was a comfort food that I would get often, I went there in January or February and it was still delicious. We first noticed things were different when we saw the serving sizes of the curry was smaller than it used to be, yet more expensive. Even the naan used to come with 4 pieces an order but now only came with two pieces, even though it is also more expensive than before. The quality and quantity used to be worth the prices, so an increase is understandable over time. But increases in price while decreasing the quantity and quality of the food doesn't make sense. It's also extremely disappointing, this was literally one of my favorite restaurants. The service had always been amazing before this. But I couldn't even finish the curry it wasn't like it had been literally a few months ago. Sad to see another Sebastopol classic go.

Yelp
Consistently good, one of my favorites. Service is always prompt and friendly, and rotating seasonal specials provide some variety.

Yelp
You might not notice this place driving past, but it is lovely inside! The staff is attentive and very sweet. Super knowledgeable of the menu and will happily help you find something you like! Our waitress gave us her honest opinions on what to order and we were beyond happy with our food! We started with the Samosa Chaat which was SO good. I ordered extra spicy chicken tikka masala and my boyfriend ordered mild eggplant curry. They did not disappoint on the spice! We are definitely coming back here!

Dinesh R.

Yelp
The food here sooo delicious that I want to keep eating, and at least try everything on the menu. I sure will be back soon!! GREAT place!
google avatar

Andrea I.

Yelp
Amazing family run business! My boyfriends been coming her for years and I've been lucky enough to join him for the past few visits. We don't live nearby so we stop in when we are close. My boyfriend loves ordering the mango chutney on the side. It looks delicious but I'm allergic. Service can be slow but just expect that and relax. The family is very sweet and care about their customers!
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick lunch! Food was great can't say enough about the Naan! Yum Super friendly server/owner and I will be back again when working in the area!

Marisol B.

Yelp
Sunita had the BEST customer service! We got the medium spicy chicken masala and it was the best we have ever had. Definitely coming again
google avatar

Dave Y.

Yelp
Could not be better food. Just great! nice service, not fancy inside. Started, of course, with Lentil soup, it was just the right consistency and delicious fresh spices. Followed with Lamb Tika Masala (18.75), medium spice. Just delicious abundant sauce over many nice chunks of lamb. Partner had Chicken Palak ($17.70) chicken bits smothered in delicious spinach curry. Also had a butter Naan (very fresh and good), and tasty Mango Lassi. We enjoyed this very much, and will be back to try more. It's expensive for lunch tho.

Tara R.

Yelp
Really authentic food. Fresh food , the restaurant was clean and giving tropical vibe. The staff was friendly . We ordered tandoori chicken, daal and gobhi. Everything was excellent !!

Yelp
Tried this place during a weekend visit from bay area. Both the food and service were simply amazing and the Palak Paneer was the best we've had in a long time!
google avatar

Yelp
This is the absolute best Himalayan in all of Sonoma county and probably the north bay! I recommend this place for people that only like spicy food, I feel that this will satisfy your spicy tooth. My favorite is the lamb biryani, it is aromatic and beautiful - I can make lamb biryani at home but it is a very long process with many ingredients so I would rather just come here when I'm in a pinch as I find it to be the most authentic and flavorful! The naan are all delicious, there are variations with garlic, cilantro and cheese- they are perfectly doughy and definitely needed to go with any saucy entree. I also order the palak paneer, I love the firm cheese with the creamy spinach! My last favorite is the veg tikka masala, it's spicy, creamy and delightful. I usually order a side of their raita! It really helps when you order everything spicy. The chicken wings and pakora are always a good choice - don't forget the mango lassi!

David M.

Yelp
The food here is always good and we are going here tonight! Well prepared from fresh ingredients and wonderful flavors. A beautiful mixture of Indian and Nepali cuisines. And the chai is excellent!

Angela O.

Yelp
I got the chicken Tika masala and the chana masala with a side of garlic Nan. Everything was really good except the rice was a little mushy & I wish they served basmati rice instead of white rice. Over all great flavor :)

Katharina M.

Yelp
I used to love this place. Absolutely adored the owner and the food. Since ownership changed the dishes are acceptable but not close to what they were, and the portion sizes have shrunk. The to-go containers are laughably minuscule. They handed me a lunch-sized brown paper bag with dinner for my family. I said, "I think that's the wrong order," but no, they had fit multiple $23-ish entrees, rice and nan into a tiny bag because - tiny containers. It's insulting. Everything is insulting these days. You get crap, for too much money, and angry servers demand 25% more or you're the ahole. California needs to shape up and so does Himalayan Tandoori.
google avatar

janet l.

Yelp
My family and I have been coming here for years. The food is fresh and prepared perfectly. We have never been disappointed and I especially love when they have the pumpkin Curry in season. You will not be disappointed here. The owners and family create a great atmosphere enjoy!

Kristine K.

Yelp
Very delicious! Tried their chicken korma with medium spice and garlic naan Korma was flavorful and just what I was hoping for and chicken very tender. Perfectly flavored garlic naan.
google avatar

Yelp
I was visiting Sebastopol from LA and craved Indian food (we're pampered in LA with a wide range of amazing Indian cuisine). We decided to order from Himalayan Tandori and I was thoroughly impressed with HT's delicious flavors. The vegetarian curries were especially noteworthy! Can't wait to come back and try the goat dish!
google avatar

Sierra A.

Yelp
Extremely mediocre and the portions seem very small? I got the butter chicken, cheese naan, and raita and it was $30. The butter chicken was like 4 small chunks of chicken with a ton of sauce and the container couldn't have been more than a pint. The raita is extremelyyyy sour, which is odd because I've tried raita at tons of places and it's always been a little bit sweet and very satisfying flavor. The naan was dough-y and just not flavored well. 2 stars cause the food is edible and the flavor of the butter chicken is okay. But definitely will plan ahead next time and order from somewhere else.
google avatar

Ivy R.

Yelp
I'm good with the dairy free options, plain naan and some good brown rice. Super filling and nice staff. Try eggplant curry

Angelina G.

Yelp
The food is consistently excellent, as is the service. Highly, highly recommend. Faves are chicken palak, lamb biryani, and momos.

Yelp
[REVIEW WRITTEN: 12/4/20] Let's get right into it! The Deets: + Following COVID safety protocols + Vegan options are available + Quick service + Outdoor seating available + Parking lot available + Chicken Tikka Masala - always a fave - creamy, spicy goodness.
google avatar

Flora M.

Yelp
Received my food burnt. I ordered the mixed veggie and got whole mushrooms, two halves of a bell pepper and chunks of onion. No flavor, no spices nothing. The salad was a joke, more chunks of onion with slabs of mozzarella cheese. Pizza places make better salads. The only good thing about it was when I got to throw it away. You guys had one job, seriously?!
google avatar

Emmaline F.

Yelp
Just WOW!!! Only my third time having Indian food and oh my goodness this was amazing!! Definitely the best I've had and if we lived closer this would definitely be a weekly go-to! The veggie momos were incredibly, such a mouth watering blend of flavors and the perfect texture. I also had the garlic naan -- yum!! And the vegan coconut curry, the crowning glory of the meal. The curry was so amazing!!! And I so appreciate the great amount of delicious vegan options here. You can tell the ingredients are fresh, and very high quality. My sister and I both have very sensitive stomachs, but both of us feel just fine after eating their food. A high endorsement hhsDo yourself a favor -- support an amazing local restaurant and get some food from here! 10/3/20: Picked up takeout here on my way home from the barn my horses were evacuated to -- super genuinely friendly, great service, and my food was packaged nicely in an easy to carry box (I appreciate them not using plastic bags!!). It was the perfect end to the day, and as always -- incredible food! The best in Sonoma County in my opinion. Super fresh and healthy tasting! Even up there right along with my fav Indian place in Berkeley.

Yelp
The food was great. The portion justifies the price. I could only ate half of my plate. The restaurant was empty so the service was fast.
google avatar

Carrie K.

Yelp
Best dal soup in wine country that I have found so far. Just delightful people and the food is good too.
google avatar

Samira A.

Yelp
One of our fave place for pick up, one of these days we will dine in, Haa haa. Tasty, aromatic, flavorful food. And such nice family owned business, do support!
google avatar

Kendra S.

Yelp
There is a reason this place has 4.5 stars! It is THE best Indian food in Sonoma county!! This place never disappoints and we always get tasty food and the best service ! They are always consistent with their food and service! The chicken tikka masala is a MUST have, it's usually what we always get. Their naan is mouth watering. And the mango lassi is sooo good!! The portions are big and very filling we always have leftovers for lunch the next day!! Everything about it is good! It's clean and comforting, food is amazing, service is amazing, price is right!! We'll definitely keep coming back and recommending to all our friends !!
google avatar

Louise T.

Yelp
Some of the best Indian food I've had in the Bay Area and welll beyond. Everything we've had here is incredibly fresh and clearly made in house. Someone in the kitchen has a deft hand with the spices, with the different dishes having distinctive flavors instead of the sort of one spice fits all at many curry places. The naan is incredible, food is not in the least greasy. If I have a recommendation it would be for them to work on their rice so it's not quite so over cooked. Will be here many times again- working our way through the entire menu!
google avatar

Otis L.

Yelp
Just moved to Santa Rosa and damn, this was good. Missed Asian food. Great stuff. The naan was top notch. Definitely have to come back for more.
google avatar

Hilleary Z.

Yelp
Fresh food, friendly and attentive staff and beautiful jade and garden in front. This is the best curry in Sonoma County!
google avatar

Sasha R.

Yelp
Sadly the food is not nearly as good under the new ownership. The naan tasted like it had thyme in it and the tikka masala was not creamy and had a strong tangy taste. This was our favorite restaurant in Sebastopol and this was our favorite place. We will not be frequenting again.
google avatar

Lisette R.

Yelp
My house mate and I went to this place on a day trip to the region. We were the only people in the restaurant, but when we asked to sit outside we were told "no, only inside" be they didn't have enough staff. Further, the man who sat us was coughing the entire time we were there. We asked for our food to-go and said we weren't comfortable because we couldn't sit outside and heard a lot of coughing. During a pandemic it's absolutely absurd to keep people inside and have someone sick working! We got the food to go but I wasn't comfortable eating mine. My house mate says hers was not good. All around bad experience.

Bella R.

Yelp
We recently started ordering from here and I cannot recommend the butter chicken enough.... It is amazing!!! It's full of flavor and spice and it's absolutely delicious.
