Google
Great place and delicious sushi. I love salmon and got a salmon platter with 5 sushi nigiri, 7 sake sashimi and salmon roll. Fresh salmon, what can be better! Raw sushi is how I determine the quality of the food, because you can’t hide it with sauces, other ingredients or tempura that changes or hides the taste. The service was top notch, we needed to only look at the server, and they would come to us right away. They were actually standing in close proximity and waiting. The decor of the place was very pleasant and cute. We had a great time. Oh, and water, they brought it out in a bottle and glasses with ice as soon as we sat down, we didn’t need to ask for it. Great place, I will definitely be back to try other rolls and will update the review 😊 Enjoy!

Google
I had the most incredible experience at Hinata Sushi! The sushi was absolutely outstanding! fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every bite was a delight, and you could tell the ingredients were top-notch. We tried a variety of rolls, each one unique and delicious in its own way. The chef’s creativity and attention to detail really stood out. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches throughout the meal, like the perfect pairing suggestions and the attention to dietary preferences. It’s rare to find a restaurant that combines such high quality in both food and service. Overall, Hinata Sushi exceeded all our expectations. I can’t wait to come back for another unforgettable meal. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for the best sushi in town!

Google
I most definitely would have given 5 stars, but my takeout order was missing an item and because they stapled the bag, I didn’t even think to double check when I picked it up last night. Just assumed that the person who crossed off the item on the receipt actually placed it into the bag. Sigh. Be sure to open the bag while still in the restaurant! No seaweed salad for us. 😕 But the sushi was delicious! Only other suggestion for the restaurant is to provide more than 4 soy sauce packets. It was not nearly enough for 5 rolls plus two orders of rice and we were out at home.

Google
Food was tasty and big portions! Service was a little slow even though it wasn’t busy on a Wednesday night. Restaurant is clean and welcoming. Prices for dinner were a bit high for some items. Lunch menu seems to be more options for reasonable prices.

Warren P.

Google
Food was delicious. Went with my wife during lunch, the lunch specials were good. I recommend this place.

Google
I eat sushi 2 to 3 times a week because I travel a lot. Sushi looked good, but it just did not meet my standards. Something was off with the rolls. Maybe the rice? Not sure. Appearance was nice but flavor just was not top tier. Tuna was low quality as it was pink and not dark red like it should be.

Joolee R.

Google
We had a lovely dinner here! Age Tofu was delicious, sushi was great and fun fruity beer selection. The atmosphere is not very warm with the concrete floors but the service was friendly. Will be back!! Thanks!

Google
Delicious and authentic Japanese food. They get 5 stars on taste, presentation and service. Only suggestion I'd make is to maintain more of the Japanese culture by playing their music vs R&B. Get the Osaka roll. You won't regret it!

Yelp
This is our go to sushi in Old Town Alexandria. Parking is easy in the Trader Joe's garage. Every time we go we blindly order all the daily sushi specials that are listed on the chalkboard. They are always creative and amazing. Service is fast and friendly. Vibe is casual. Recommend dine in over takeout for better flavor.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from here and was pleasantly surprised. Keep in mind that the roll pieces are all bite sized -- the prices seemed too good to be true but then even the inside our rolls are the same size as the small regular ones. I ordered the following: Cherry Blossom Roll Yellowtail Roll Salmon Roll Alaska Roll Monster Roll Everything was great except the cherry blossom roll. The crab on the inside didn't do it for me so I'd probably pass on this one next time. Otherwise I enjoyed everything and appreciated the smaller portions and cheaper cost.

Yelp
The rolls are amazing especially the crazy spicy tuna and the hidden dragon roll, but you really can't go wrong with any of the specialty rolls. Super kind and attentive service and it's always so clean and bright in the restaurant. This is my go-to spot for good sushi at a good price, especially when I don't know what to eat, I always know that Hinata will always be a great choice!
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
This is the best sushi seafood & grill in Old Town Alexandria. Their sushi rolls literally are a work of art and authentic. The service is great, very professional.

Yelp
I came here with my daughter for a last minute lunch date. The restaurant was really clean. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. I really loved that they had lunch options on a Saturday. The bento boxes come with a lot of food. We got the bulgogi box and it was delicious! The sushi was fresh and the miso soup was flavorful. Overall, a great lunch experience! I will definitely return!

Yelp
My mom came across Hinata Sushi while she was on a walk one evening and she told me about it. I checked out the reviews and was immediately intrigued. At first glance, the place appears to be your average, neighborhood sushi place with sushi ranging from mediocre to average. However, I was blown away by the quality of the sushi--fresh, good cuts, and extremely tasty. Unlike higher end sushi restaurants, these guys do not skimp on the portions. AND the prices are beyond reasonable for the portion sizes that they serve. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
Unassuming sushi spot. We parked in the street and got the house salad, miso soup and a couple of rolls. Boston Roll and... something else. Service was great and quick but the surprise was the taste. The ginger dressing tasted as if they made it there? Not the same bottled stuff I'm used to. Even the miso was a little extra flavorwise. The rolls were great, blending a lot of flavor really nicely.
google avatar

Choi C.

Yelp
First time here and it won't be the last time. The sushi is fresh and delicious. We got the crouching tiger , crunch queen roll and g dragon. They were all yummy. I highly recommend the salmon sushi. The place is clean. The staff are friendly. Street and garage parking.
google avatar

Kamali F.

Yelp
I'll preface by saying that the only issue I have is the slow service to get food and the check. I'm sure it's because everything is made fresh, and I appreciate that, but I've been here a few times now and the wait is a bit much. The food is great though and I'll continue to come and wait lol! The miso soup is simple and delicious. The edamame is fresh, steamed and salted perfectly. House salad has a great dressing. My favorite roll is the Crunch Queen Roll, but I also love the Dynamite Roll. They have a large variety of Sake. Customer service is great. The restaurant and bathroom is always clean. I wouldn't come when I'm limited on time like on lunch or something, but it's definitely a must try for good, quality sushi.
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
The sushi was just ok. My favorite special roll was Crunch Queen only because of the warm/cold and textured difference amongst the others. It wasn't anything to write home to. The staff was super friendly though and very clean!

Yelp
I've been to Hinata twice now and both times I've had a wonderful experience! Both visits were during a time when only a few diners were in the restaurant (which was surprising) but service was on point both times. The fish is fresh and my food came out incredibly fast. On my last visit I ordered the Shrimp Shumai (boiled), Alaska Roll and Futomaki. This ended up being a much more significant amount of food than I expected and although the shrimp shumai wasn't as flavorful as I'm used to, everything was still very good! I will definitely return the next time I'm in the area and would like to grab something quick and fresh! Thank you, Hinata!

Yelp
I'm always looking forward to trying a new sushi place. I came across Hinata Sushi and decided to give them a try. I went with the Black Brick speciality roll and the shrimp teriyaki bento box. The Black brick roll is a soft shell crab roll with shrimp served on top of rice with squid ink. The roll was okay. Would I get it again? Probably not, I thought there was something missing for a roll that expensive. The shrimp teriyaki box was on point. The shrimp were a normal size and well seasoned. My only complaint was that there were additional items that were served with the teriyaki box but there was no description on the website letting you know what they were. The box did come with a salad, miso soup and a small sea weed salad. There was another salad, I am just not sure what ingredients were in it. The restaurant was very empty for a Sunday evening. I would like to come back and check this place out for an in person dinner experience.

Yelp
I got order 003 to go on October 1st around 6pm and was completely disappointed. Apart from waiting 30 minutes for my food. The food was little portions and only gave ONE sauce and one chopstick when I ordered food for two. There's Definitely better sushi around truly disappointing with my experience.
google avatar

Kyla B.

Yelp
Ordered food to go, loved the fast delivery, but the sushi was mediocre. The taste didn't match the high reviews. I ordered the Firecracker Roll and Spicy California roll, but nothing was spicy despite being topped with several jalapeños. These were pretty basic rolls and the restaurant has great reviews, so maybe just try something else on the menu.
google avatar

Brittany R.

Yelp
This a MUST GO TO SUSHI BAR! I was in absolute heaven each time a took a bite! I was served with a smile and served in timely fashion. I went with the Redskin roll which had all the fixings "spicy tuna, cucumber, tuna & avocado with yellow Tobiko" it was everything I needed and more. My second roll was more caloric. I had the Las Vegas roll which was a collaboration of spicy tuna, crab, cream cheese, asparagus, & deep fried avocado. The ambiance was nothing fancy but to the point. Come & eat & leave lol
google avatar

Yelp
BLUF: not a fancy place, but good fresh fish sushi and prompt service. Two of us went for lunch on a weekday. The place was pretty empty, and we were told to take whatever table we wanted. One thing to note is that any beverage other than water or hot tea is provided in can or bottle, i.e. drinks are not from a fountain or on tap. Not a show stopper, and sort of fits into the minimalist appearance of the restaurant. We got a sushi lunch plate and a chicken box lunch, as well as jalapeno popper appetizer. This last one was kind of surprise, and not what you'd expect from a sushi restaurant, but was quite good and surprisingly mild. Each meal comes with a small bowl of miso soup and a small salad. Both are very good, but the salad is served in sort of a small bowl dish so it's hard to "stir" and get all the pieces coated in dressing. The sushi was fresh and very good. I think the pieces are a bit small, but good nonetheless and probably appropriate for the price point. The chicken was very tasty as well. Overall the meal was enjoyable and fresh. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
Great place and if I was not moving away, would continue to go here. Very nice staff and sushi taste very fresh.

Delana A.

Yelp
My review is solely based on my take-out order.. The service was great when I walked in & paid for my order, & the restaurant wasn't too busy when I entered (around 7pm on a Friday night) I ordered : tempura shrimp & veggies -- 6/10 , could have given larger portion & variety of vegetables firecracker roll -- 7/10 pretty good ! vegetable roll -- 7/10 , what you would expect from a typical vegetable roll w cucumber, asparagus, & avocado queen crunch roll -- 7/10 , could have used a direct kind of crunch, the shreds they top it w. aren't all that crunchy This place is a bit less pricey than other sushi restaurants in the area & the food is decent so I would definitely recommend this place! Will hopefully be dining in sometime soon :)

Yelp
I like this low key yet elegant spot offering authentic yet elegant flavors and conscientious service. 美味しい

Larissa P.

Yelp
We got a very incomplete order via Grubhub after waiting over 30 minutes. We called Hinata and they were extraordinarily dismissive and rude and unhelpful. So, they may have good food, just show up at the restaurant so they don't pass the problem on to others. Update: Raw fish was delivered an hour after the other food after our call, warm and inedible.

Yelp
While looking for Thai food, I found Hinata Sushi Bar by accident. I don't quite remember how, but I thought, "that place looks interesting." After being seated, one of the first things that stood out was their special for the day (see photo. Movie buffs enjoy). Ended up getting a sampler that came with octopus, squid, and a few other things I've had before. After putting my fear aside, I devoured all of it. They have a good amount of space for large groups, and their service was awesome. I shall return.

Cristina T.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is always amazing and the staff is very nice. The size of the pieces of fish are super generous and the sake flows!

Carly F.

Yelp
OMG no notes! This place is amazing and absolutely exceeded all of my expectations. The food was so delicious and fresh. It's so reasonably priced. We got to try some new Japanese beers that were great as well. Loved the salad, tempura, agedashi tofu and sushi. The service was so friendly. It's so clean. This will just be a go-to for us going forward. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience.

Judith S.

Yelp
Hinata Sushi is in a very convenient location in Old Town off of the Parkway. Service was great and the sushi was super fresh and tasty.

Ryan T.

Yelp
Came here for a quick dinner as we were craving Japanese and this restaurant was close by. Restaurant was clean, nice, and not crowded. Our server was very nice and quick! We ordered the Fried Pork Gyoza as an appetizer and for the entrees we ordered the Sushi & Sashimi meal, Shrimp Tempura Roll, and Chicken Teriyaki. The sushi was good and the Chicken Teriyaki was served with Rice and Vegetables. In my opinion, the food was nothing special and did not make it stand out from any comparable restaurants in the area although it was still good and filling. I am going to try other restaurants before coming back here.

Tracy L.

Yelp
Great little hidden gem! Good food great prices and happy hour. Perfect place for a mid week date night. The staff were fantastic.

Felipe V.

Yelp
Sushi didn't taste fresh, teriyaki kitchen had no flavor and came in a puddle of leftover cooking sauce no glaze just watery, ramen was the best thing but still nothing to impress. Very long wait time for food overall super disappointed. Almost walked out due to wait time and wish i did
google avatar

Yelp
Of all the sushi places in Alexandria, Hinata is a no frills eatery with the basics. Fresh fish served as nigiri or sashimi, some inventive rolls, and hearty mains like salmon teriyaki. The highlights of our meal were the salmon teriyaki - perfectly cooked salmon with excellent marinade, not too sweet, not too sticky, and the Volcano Roll, perfectly balanced fish and rice with a real spicy kick. There are plenty of places for sushi in the DMV, and you can't go wrong with Hinata.

Yelp
I've been to Hinata on multiple occasions and I feel like this place never disappoints. We were greeted and seated right away, which I can always appreciate. Brandon was our server- he was very personable, respectful, and overall a joy. He was quick to take our order, and even prior to that, he came by with a large bottle of water. Kudos for that because I feel like people are never proactive about that! I ordered the jalapeño poppers and the yellowtail kama as an appetizer. Both were absolutely delicious. The poppers had the perfect ratio of spicy tuna, cream cheese, and it was fried perfectly! The drizzle of sauces were also great, as it did not make the poppers soggy. The kama came out hot and crispy, with a delicious sauce (maybe ponzu) to accompany it. There was a generous amount of meat which honestly filled me up! I ordered the sushi and sashimi dinner- the quality of the fish is always amazing. My significant other ordered the Snow White and Up & Down roll. Both delicious and methodically constructed. I was very happy with our order. I would highly recommend Hinata. The prices are fair and the quality speaks for itself. I would also recommend Brandon too! The host who is usually at the front is also very kind too. Brandon's excellent customer service is the reason why I would keep coming back to Hinata! Thanks so much for being so easy to talk to, and so prompt with everything!

Yelp
Yum! Stumbled on this place right by our hotel. No frills environment, but everything was fresh and yummy! The dynamite roll was AWESOME and had a ton of meat. Staff was very friendly.
google avatar

Judy L.

Yelp
This is our regular to go sushi spot in Alexandria because they offer a variety of dishes for adults and kids. My favorite is the Mango Avocado Ball in the appetizer section with spicy tuna, avocado and mango salsa. My kids LOVE the teriyaki chicken. We such regulars here that I don't even bother to check in as I should. Edit to add: got a little piece of souvenir hair on the outside of my take out soup. But the sushi was still delish.

Bruce L.

Yelp
Maybe the best sushi I have had on the east coast. And I'm west coast and Japan spoiled. Clean, fresh, beautifully prepared. Best in Old Town for sure.
google avatar

BreAna M.

Yelp
This is one of the best sushi spots I've tried in the Northern VA area! The restaurant itself is in a great location, lots of street parking nearby. It's a clean and inviting atmosphere and the staff are super friendly and attentive! Several different staff members checked on us throughout our meal. We ordered the steamed gyoza and squid legs for an appetizer. The gyoza was sooo flavorful! That might have been the best dumpling I've had in a while. The squid legs were super crispy and delicious. I ordered the mango tango roll, and I loved it. So many different flavor combinations. I was glad I tried it. My fiancé had the caterpillar roll and he thought it was really good. We also had the spicy California roll and that was tasty. They had an interesting list of Japanese beers, so we tried the yuzu beer. That was so delicious and refreshing! We can not wait to come back. This will be our new go to place for sushi!
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
I ordered a salmon teriyaki. Two thin slices of pan fried salmon were bathed with soy sauce and onions came out with small portion of rice. It seems to be a poor presentation for a dish. More importantly, the taste were too salty, the salmon were already salt seasoned before cooked and soy sauce dressed sweetened that added with onions and a couple of zucchini slices. They must preserve with added sugar. I expected a fresh grilled salmon, not salt spread thin slice salmon. I was disappointed for their presentation.
google avatar

Lola H.

Yelp
I've been here several times now during the weekday for lunch. Consistently experienced really freshly good sushi and rolls, genuinely nice customer service (and quick), and clean atmosphere. Will become a regular!
google avatar

Marleny E.

Yelp
Food is good. Ordered several specialty rolls on different occasions and one eel sashimi. Always accompanied with miso soup and the best quality house salad at sushi restaurant I've had. They actually base the salad on baby greens and radish. That should say something about how they are concerned about the smallest of detail in their food quality. Service was fast and tasks are mostly shared so theirs no unnecessary wait. Ambiance is quiet with soft music. I do admit I only go during the week to avoid crowds. Very clean place.
google avatar

Singi D.

Yelp
I haven't had sushi for a while, and this place is very unassuming but packs big flavor in their carefully prepared rolls. Atmosphere looks like a take out spot, they are extremely busy with take out orders but service was still good. We tried a milk based sake, a dragon roll & the up & down roll. I loved that the sushi wasn't overcrowded with rice. Amazing flavors. Generous portions and great prices. I definitely want to try more. I'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Tom A.

Yelp
It is disappointing when you expect excellence and it's not there. Their menu is a simple one. I ordered the Sushi & Sashimi combo. Bring in a starved state, it took me awhile to notice how small the items were. It was sushi in miniature.
google avatar

Kiana K.

Yelp
My bf and I came here on his birthday on a Monday evening. There were only a few couples in the restaurant so it was pretty quiet for dinner hr. Coming from California, we have pretty high standards for sushi. Everything was so fresh and well balanced flavors, not too much rice as a lot of other places will overcompensate by adding too much rice to the rolls. My favorites were the Snow White roll, seared fish on top was perfect, and also the cherry blossom roll. Pricing is very fair as well. For 3 rolls, 2 warm sakes, salad, and tempura, it was about $75. This will definitely be a new go to sushi spot for us!
google avatar

Lucy M.

Yelp
After rave reviews on Yelp, I decided to give them a try. Truthfully, I wasn't impressed. I won't fault them too much because the order was placed through Doordash. I didn't find the rolls to be very flavorful. I order the Firecracker, Dynamite, and Spicy Yellowtail. I will probably give them another try in the near future.

Sue S.

Yelp
My worst lunch experience ever, invited our 2 hungry interns to lunch, we all had great expectations - ordered 3 lunch boxes. We waited for a very long time, at least 45 minutes. The Bulgogi was a very small amount: two bites of meat, totally over salted - and even worse: the salmon was a thin, tiny rectangular piece maybe 1 inch wide and 3 inches long, omg! The poor kid picked it up with the fork, put it back down on the plate and picked it up again, trying to not eat it in one bite. I was so embarrassed. When the waitress asked if all was good, I asked her if they could bring a full portion of salmon, she looked at me and walked away. It literally looked like the sushi guy used one of his chopped off trash for our lunch. The bill was $60 and none of us ate even half of what was on the platter due to the fish and meat shortage and oversalted bulgogi (didn't ask how the chicken was but at least it was a decent amount - also the lower priced item, lol!). I never had to apologize before this experience to anyone I invited to lunch! Too annoyed to take pics.

Yelp
Service: 5 stars Food: 5 stars Atmosphere: 4.5 stars Location: 5 stars A mistake they made by accidentally giving us a premium sushi roll... then realizing it... and then giving us the premium sushi roll we ordered at no extra charge: 5 stars The guy who waited on us was very funny. I was joking with him the whole time we were there. And he could easily play off my jokes and also threw some back at me. I very much appreciated it. I got the avocado salad which came with this epic avocado rose on it. I mean... man... please teach me how to do this. I might have to look up tutorials online. They'd look so good next to my homemade tamagoyaki lol. Everything we ordered was above par. I got an order of spicy tuna rolls - delicious We ordered the Ka-ta roll which has crab, tamago and a few other things in it and it's topped with spicy salmon. That was delicious. But was even MORE delicious was the premium roll they they accidentally served us, which was the Osaka roll which had spicy crab and avocado inside with seared salmon on top. Holy Kao was that good! Kao in Japanese means face, which is coincidentally where I want to put all of the Osaka rolls ever. My friend got the hamachi appetizer and the fish was so fresh and buttery, it was easily some of the best hamachi I've ever had. A really solid sushi meal. Would highly recommend going and grabbing some if you're in the area. Yelp don't lie - B has got 83 reviews and 4.5 stars. There's a reason... trust.

Yelp
I would this place is great quality sushi! Pretty good ramen too! Very fresh, everything tasted.
google avatar

Luis M.

Yelp
The sushi itself is fine and there is a level of freshness I hardly experience at many sushi spots but the service was terrible. It was clear that they were juggling an abundance of online orders and a packed house but they were severely understaffed. It took entirely too long to be able to ask for another drink let alone for it to arrive at the table. I also wanted to order something else and had to wait until I about finished my meal and drink before I had to flag someone down to order to and eat well after my dining partner was done. I won't be back if I can help it but I'd say to try it once and hope for better service.
google avatar

Khoran M.

Yelp
The food was good my daughter loved it. The atmosphere was wholesome and friendly. We had to go to Virginia to visit. I wish they had one in DC closer to me but that's just my personal preference. I would go there regardless.
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Fantastic!! Food is amazing and sushi very fresh!!they only charge $1 for soy wrappers for me! The jalapeño poppers were literally cravable!! We got to meet the lady who is one of the owners (her husband is one of the sushi chefs), Haylee, and she was soooo welcoming and charming. They also have gluten free soy sauce if you need that!! I will say - that whole building has terrible cell signal. In fact, none. And the WiFi doesn't work so enjoy a nice digital-less phone free meal!!!
google avatar

Betty C.

Yelp
I will say that I'm new to sushi and very wet behind the ears. I'm still getting used to it. I went with friends and had a taste of theres. I've had sushi in seaweed wraps and it was horribly salty. These were not. I do not care for salmon and I don't like a lot of avocado. Many of the plates had salmon and avocado in them. The plates come out looking exactly as portrayed. I would have liked to see more tuna options and there was only one option for tempura (which was delicious!!) but I would have liked to see another option or one where I could build my own plate. Quick service. Clean and quiet restaurant .

David G.

Yelp
Good place. I will definitely be back. Service was great. Not too crowded and friendly people
google avatar

Alissa C.

Yelp
I love this restaurant so much, that I always forget to take a picture because I'm to busy stuffing my face as soon as the plates arrive. I even tell myself "ok TODAY you get the pictures first, then eat." Nope. Never happens. The lunch specials are INSANE. It's so so much food. If you're like me, you can still eat it all in one sitting and be super full but totally satisfied. Or if you're a weaker individual you could totally pack some for a second meal. The salmon box is where it's at. Salmon curry, vegetables, tempura, salad, soup, Cali roll... must I go on? Sashimi lunch 10 pieces of huge sashimi, so fresh and delish with soup and salad. Yum! Go get a lunch special and take a picture for me since I can't seem to do it
