Man, Oh man, I've been eyeing this place FOREVER! I finally made it out once EEM opened back up and, sadly, was a bit disappointed. First, let me say that the guy working was super friendly and extremely helpful. I was debating between two sandwiches and he helped me make a good decision.
I ended up ordering their famous Bahn Mi and then getting a thick slice of their wild boar bologna to go. He told me the sandwich would not travel well, which I appreciated, so I just got the meat to try.
The sandwich itself was delicious. Super filling and so many complimentary flavors. My issue with it is the pate was LOADED with whole peppercorns. You could not take a bite without 1-2 peppercorns ending up in your mouth. Have you ever bit into a whole peppercorn? It's not fun. It's hard to bite into and ruins any other flavor in your mouth. If you have 1 in every single bite, it's very overpowering. I ended up having to take the meat off the sandwich, which is the whole point of it. The duck and country pate. I was quite sad for it to go to waste.
The next day I took out the bologna to make for breakfast. It was nice and thick, about 1/2 inch or so, and it smelled divine! Before I even threw it in the pan, I removed nearly a dozen whole peppercorns. Those were just the ones blatantly visible.Once I cut into it, and tried eating, there were way more. I ended up throwing the 2/3 of the meat away as I'd already pulled out 26 whole peppercorns. Yes, I counted them. It was way too much and it wasn't worth continuing to dig through the meat to get all the peppers out.
Maybe they had an accident on meat prep day and a whole bottle got dumped in. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be. Maybe most people really enjoy that. I'm really not sure. All I know is that it is not for me.
I hear their BLT's are legendary so maybe I'll try that next time. Either way, I'll be sure to ask what meats DO NOT have whole peppercorns as an ingredient before ordering. lol
