16 Tongue-Numbing Sichuan Restaurants to Try in Los Angeles - Eater LA

"Hip Hot in Monterey Park specializes in melding seafood from Cantonese cuisine with Sichuan flavors. Although there are some traditional dishes on the menu, like mapo tofu and dry pots, the most popular dishes all involve seafood, including the spicy crab pot, Dungeness crab, and squid with pickled chiles. The fresh Dungeness crab is stir-fried with loads of red chiles and Sichuan peppercorns and tossed with rice cakes, potatoes, and vegetables. Chef Tiantian Qiu is willing to make her dishes even spicier upon request." - Kristie Hang

My family and I decided to try this spot because my sister made a recommendation stating that the crab is worth trying. We came on a Saturday night and it was a full house inside. The inside is brightly lit with a nice crab painting by the kitchen. The chairs aren't that comfortable so know that going in because the chairs are relatively shorter than the table. Onto the food: please excuse the names of dishes because we ordered in Chinese and I don't know the English names 1. Dungeness Crab presentation looked simple and plain. The little golden balls are corn, which I've never tried with crab so it was nice to try something new. 2. Tofu with crab meat sauce was probably my favorite dish we tried. At first, it looked like egg sauce but I believe it was the salted egg yolk sauce. I mixed that in with the fried corn from the crab and it was delicious. 3. Stir fried string beans is as basic as its name. Nothing really amazes me at any Chinese restaurant because you can't really do much. 4. Beef Tendon: not a fan of it but it was okay 5. Fish & cucumber and 1000 year old preserved egg soup?? When we had it, the soup turned cold because the restaurant ran out of bowls and we're washing them. So I wasn't a fan of it since it became cold but I'm sure it would've been good. 6. Dan Dan noodles were flavorful but tons of oil. If you do order it, you should try asking for less oil

Spice food, good seafood, must try the crab here. Famous for the crab dish. Overall very spicy, good selection. Nice atmosphere. Close to the other shops and AMC theaters.

Absolutely delicious Szechuan food in Monterey Park area of Los Angeles. Everything was balanced and perfectly cooked and it was not absurdly spicy despite being Szechuan. Delicious and I wrote a blog post.

Clams are not clean. 蛤蜊豆腐汤无法喝。 Food are very expensive. Pineapple slush charged me $8.99. Will not come again.

We had a group of 5 people with one of our friends' birthday. The food is amazing and service is excellent. The decoration is very unique and special with combination of Chinese and modern style. I can tell that the owner has spent a lot of time and thoughts to make it nice. The Sichuan flavors are off the hook! Spicy and delicious. Great size portions so come with a large group! ~ two of our friends are Cantonese. They don't like too spicy. The good things about the restaurant is that they have non-spicy dishes, especially Cantonese chicken soup. Give it a try when you are around the area. P.S. Their watermelon juice drink comes with a large watermelon. It is fresh made and cute! Don't forget their Golden crab.

Haven't had a bad dish. Sichuan style food with some personal twists. I tend to get the pickled fish soup and cold pork belly. Other highlights are the fresh scallops and any of the dry pots. Some dishes seem pricey but the portions are huge. Definitely a great value.

Order 5 dishes, all were delicious. The best place for crabs, especially for the hot and spicy crab. Will definitely comeback whenever I visit LA again.
