Philadelphia Restaurant Group The Marquis & Co. Commits to $15 Minimum Wage | Eater Philly

"Owned by the Marquis & Co. restaurant group, HipCityVeg is a vegan restaurant brand (the chain includes two D.C. locations) that will be covered by a group-wide $15 minimum wage taking effect in July; the move guarantees both hourly and tipped workers across the group's nine restaurants at least $15 an hour, although in D.C. servers already earn that. Nicole Marquis says the increase will affect 75 percent of the Philadelphia workforce and is aimed at recruiting and retaining staff amid pandemic-era labor shortages and multiple rounds of layoffs, noting that positions like food runners, bussers, and barbacks may previously have made less than $15. Marquis—who co-founded the Save Philly Restaurants coalition and organized testing and vaccination clinics for restaurant workers—expects higher menu prices to help offset the short-term cost while reducing turnover in the long run, and says the wage helped her recruit someone back from Amazon." - Dayna Evans

I recently visited this establishment on October 20th, where I was eager to sample the "not crabby patty". As part of a meal deal, I also opted for sweet potato fries and an extra side of onion rings. Meanwhile, my friend settled on the classic chicken sandwich. Placing our orders was a breeze thanks to the touchscreen system. Surprisingly, our food arrived promptly within approximately 10 minutes. The flavors were satisfactory overall, although I found the dishes to be a bit heavy on salt, sugar, and fried items. While I am aware that healthier choices are available, I couldn't help but compare to similar vegan eateries that utilize air fryers. The service was commendable, prices were fair, and the ambiance was pleasant. It left me wondering - why not introduce an air fryer option for a healthier twist?

My husband and I are vegetarian (previously omnivores) so we love coming here and getting their crispy chicken sandwiches and shakes. Looks like a great place for students with a 10% discount!

If you have a toddler that needs to sit in a high chair, I highly suggest Do Not use their high chair, it’s disgusting! The table isn’t that much better, the sanitation standard at this store is extremely poor and needs to be improved.

Classic fast food but vegan, it was pretty good, very fast. Sauces cost extra after only one sauce and it’s the smallest container imaginable of sauce and also half filled? But it was good

Not enough words for how AMAZING HipCityVeg is! 🌈✨ ALL VEGAN fast food? Done right? Yes, this is it! Delicious fast food style choices include burgers, chicken, fries & milkshakes. The inside is bright & cheery. Always amazing service. Food is so fresh, so delicious, just perfect! Highly recommend their fried “chicken” sandwhich as that’s what got them famous. Super massive, crispy “chicken” (vegan) with a wonderful bun, toppings & their ranch is mind blowing. Their “nuggets” are also great to grab! Our meat eater friend who tagged along commented how he didn’t even know it was mock chicken. ALSO- their sweet potato fries are the best I’ve ever had- no joke. Seriously, don’t skip this spot!

Listen, I know “the food was bad - and such small portions!” is a goofy cliche worth making fun of. But also, man. Portion sizes are so small for the price. And also the food isn’t good. I wouldn’t want more, but I would be less annoyed I guess if it was cheaper, you know? Anyway, drinks and fries are good. Sauces are fine. Any actual main part of a meal is probably not worth your time. I was excited for a nice veg-centric place in the area but I’m gonna stick to getting falafel from a halal cart guy over this place.

Here is review 1. The place is at good spot. You need to be lucky to find parking spot because its in middle of city. Take your time to find parking. 2. The ambiance is good. 3. Service is okay. I specifically went there to eat tofu wrap, however I am terrified to eat it. It was dry wrap without much of tofu stuffing. The sauce was very less and lot of spinach i felt like eating dry and just hard to swallow it. The same case with burger. It was again dry. The creamy factor missing in it. They neither give any sauce to eat so how could you swallow dry bites. The quality of tofu wrap I had earlier at Washington DC hip city veg led me to go here. However I am totally disappointed. Traveling to Philadelphia from New Jersey doesn’t felt like worth it. 4. Again got same issue with dipping sauce with sweet potato fries. The fries are awesome, but they gave just less than spoon of dipping sauce for large fries. They charge 4.65 something for it. How fair it is. 5. Overall okay place to eat vegan, i had enjoyed the same food at another place but this one is didn’t felt it like that.

Couldn't be in Philadelphia and not have a philly cheesesteak. Great junk food options for a quick and filling lunch. Friendly staff and good location near the uni and hospital.
