Best Vegan Restaurants in Philadelphia | Eater Philly

"The fast-casual chain serves up tasty burgers, shakes, and fries that’s both flavorful and shockingly vegan. Pro-tip: Try the HipCity Ranch, one of the best vegan chick’n sandwiches around." - Nadia Chaudhury

Couldn't be in Philadelphia and not have a philly cheesesteak. Great junk food options for a quick and filling lunch. Friendly staff and good location near the uni and hospital.

Shoutout to Shayla who made me a DELICIOUS February smoothie with strawberry on the bottom and chocolate on top instead of mixing. So kind in making the accommodation and it was delish!

Not enough words for how AMAZING HipCityVeg is! 🌈✨ ALL VEGAN fast food? Done right? Yes, this is it! Delicious fast food style choices include burgers, chicken, fries & milkshakes. The inside is bright & cheery. Always amazing service. Food is so fresh, so delicious, just perfect! Highly recommend their fried “chicken” sandwhich as that’s what got them famous. Super massive, crispy “chicken” (vegan) with a wonderful bun, toppings & their ranch is mind blowing. Their “nuggets” are also great to grab! Our meat eater friend who tagged along commented how he didn’t even know it was mock chicken. ALSO- their sweet potato fries are the best I’ve ever had- no joke. Seriously, don’t skip this spot!

Edit: I revisited this restaurant after 5 years and it seems far better now. Their Oh Maiitake burger, spicy chik’n burger and the burger with tempeh bacon (not sure I remember the name) are quite solid. Although, it is still somewhat expensive but definitely a lot more palatable now. So much potential but it gets wasted because they serve only pseudo meats and not actual vegan or vegetarian food. They should try having a totally independent menu instead of one that tries hard to taste like meat but doesn’t taste good at all.

Here is review 1. The place is at good spot. You need to be lucky to find parking spot because its in middle of city. Take your time to find parking. 2. The ambiance is good. 3. Service is okay. I specifically went there to eat tofu wrap, however I am terrified to eat it. It was dry wrap without much of tofu stuffing. The sauce was very less and lot of spinach i felt like eating dry and just hard to swallow it. The same case with burger. It was again dry. The creamy factor missing in it. They neither give any sauce to eat so how could you swallow dry bites. The quality of tofu wrap I had earlier at Washington DC hip city veg led me to go here. However I am totally disappointed. Traveling to Philadelphia from New Jersey doesn’t felt like worth it. 4. Again got same issue with dipping sauce with sweet potato fries. The fries are awesome, but they gave just less than spoon of dipping sauce for large fries. They charge 4.65 something for it. How fair it is. 5. Overall okay place to eat vegan, i had enjoyed the same food at another place but this one is didn’t felt it like that.

I traveled from Harrisburg, PA, for work in Philly, and remembered this vegan spot my brother told me about. He said it's the best vegan cheesteak he's ever had! When I got there, I was told the grill was not working. I told the brother, named Enoch, that I traveled all the way from Harrisburg for that cheesesteak. He said, "bro, I got you! You came all the way from Harrisburg? I'm going to make your sandwich on the griddle." THAT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE!! That joint was slamming, and I could only imagine what it have tasted like grilled. I got the Kale Lemonade to wash it down. My only complaint is that you're not in Harrisburg or Hershey!

The food was good and I would've given 4 stars but the place itself is horrible and in need of a complete renovation. I didn't feel comfortable eating there. The seats were torn up and stained. The owner should be ashamed. There's nothing like having good food in a nice space.

I'm a lil upset cuz everytime I come here there's always a problem. It's hit or miss with customer service. I thought I'd give it another shot but everytime I come there'd always something wrong with my order. I ordered a large meal deal and got a small drink and small fry. The woman who took my order looked miserable. I work in the restaurant industry. I know how hard it can be but it's every time I come. I'm so upset. Cuz it takes me 40 mins to drive into the city just to get a vegan cheesesteak. :( Food is amazing. Service could be better.
