The 15 Best Damn Sandwiches in Philly

"The Crispy HipCity Ranch is meatless and dairy-free — yet one of the tastiest, filling fried sandwiches on the scene. It’s a crispy “chick’n” sandwich topped with lettuce, onions, pickles, peppercorn ranch on a toasted bun — a remarkable dish for both vegans and lovers of sandwiches alike." - Ernest Owens

Absolutely awesome vegan food. Great flavors. Friendly staff. All of the dishes were epic. Items ordered: spicy chicken sandwich, sweet potato fries, cheese steak with extra cheese, regular fries, andozr of the sauces to try. Soooo good. Worth every penny.

Google
Delicious delivery Vegan noms. Really kind service via the phone for my questions, and mannnnnnn those sweet potato fries and the turmeric tangerine drink are *chefs kiss*. My non-vegan and generally begrudging on eating faux-meat but still my favorite because he tolerates my shenanigans husband said the burger was great! Pictured: vegan Philly & Smokehouse Burger

This place used to be my go to, especially for the ranch sandwich, but something changed. You could literally taste the oil and the fries were like rocks, probably refried. Disappointed because the quality just isn’t the same anymore.

Close to a week ago, I walked in to do a sit down order at this establishment. I had been here many times before and always received a pleasant reception and service. However this time, I felt something was off. I was openly displaying some Jewish identifier, which I have kept hidden in the past. I ordered, tipped the staff really well, specifically remarked I was sitting down to eat there. Based on the vibe I was getting from the staff, I was actually concerned about how they were going to serve me, so I wanted to hang out at the counter to wait for my order. The lady there said, that I should go sit down at the lobby area of The North American Building where we sit down to eat and that she would bring me my food. Yet after waiting for a long time and wondering what was going on, and just as I was ready to get up to ask about my order, the lady walked out with my food in a bag and it was cold. She said, oh sorry we didn't really know where you are and sorry the food got cold, kind of just throwing it in my face. It was very obvious based on the interaction that she had clear disdain for the fact that I was proudly displaying that I was Jewish. I am very careful of how I rate restaurants on Google. However, this situation definitely deserves a remarkable 1 star for their display of hate. I hope that this review is taken seriously and that our local Jewish supporters of this shop take heed when they walk in to order the next time.

Stopped here for a quick lunch before a show at Miller Theater. I had the Real Deal Veggie Burger on a brioche style bun with sweet potato fries and Tangerine Turmeric drink. Everything was delicious and the portions were just right! Service was fast. Nice seating area in what looks to be the lobby of an office building. Bottled water was extra in the combo unless I missed the option for iced tap water (which would have been my preference) but I had a few sips of the tumeric drink and it was good!

Google
I ordered the smokehouse burger meal and it was dynamite. I shall definitely return. Service was friendly and personable. Establishment was clean though small. The tangerine turmeric drink was great too. Crispy fries. Top marks.

Working in PhillyI had the Philly(no ketchup) and my husband had the Thanksgiving sandwich. Went back and got the same thing.. we had what the other had for lunch. Then we also got a crispy sweet smokey wrap for the plane tomorrow. My husband ate his tonight. Friendly staff and great food. Thank you HipCityVeg!

Google
Ordered a salad combo with fries and a kale lemonade. Upon entering the establishment the young lady at the counter had her back facing the door while she scrolled her phone. After a minute she turned around I told her my name and got my order. I asked if there was a fork in the bag and she said yes. Returning to my office desk I opened the bag and there was no fork. The fries were cold, but tasty, and the Sriracha aioli was delicious. The miso noodles chicken salad was soggy and over saturated with dressing. The food left a bitter burnt after taste. The drink was ok. Pretty disappointing overall, but at least the walk to the shop was pleasant.

Yelp
I am thrilled to be living near HipCityVeg! I first tried this establishment years ago while driving through Philadelphia and always hoped they would make their way to New York. Though they did open a location there, it was short-lived. As a new Philadelphia resident, I'm glad to now live near several HipCityVeg locations. My go-to order is the chicken nuggets meal, which I've enjoyed with both the kale lemonade and the turmeric tangerine beverages. While both drinks are tasty, the turmeric tangerine is definitely my favorite. The chicken nuggets are delicious, with a great texture and a crispy outside, and the fries, while pretty standard, are still tasty. I'm very much looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu and will keep updating my review as I work my way through!

Yelp
Food good , service slow. Employees extremely lazy and took over 20 minutes to get our food even when 4 people that came in after us got theirs. Way too much dressing on the salad , brought wrong food out and starting moving food around on our plates...weird...Won't go back

Yelp
HipCityVeg was the grand finale of my Philadelphia culinary adventure, and my goodness, was it worth the wait! With my vegan journey spanning seven years, I've had my fair share of plant-based cheesesteaks, but this one takes the cake. Also, the staff exuded friendliness, and the energy at HipCityVeg was positively electrifying! I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak ($13.95), a mouthwatering masterpiece with grilled steak, maitake mushrooms, grilled onions, mozzarella cheese, and a generous amount of ketchup, all nestled within a long roll. Every bite was delicious - the vegan steak was unbelievably tender, the cheese melted flawlessly, and the mushrooms added an unexpected depth without overpowering the dish. My only wish? That they'd cut the sandwich in half for easier eating - it's messy, but oh-so-fun. And yes, extra napkins are a must! As a sidekick, I tried their onion rings, and they were nothing short of ideal. They were battered and fried to golden perfection, delivering a satisfying crunch and an aroma that was downright heavenly. However, I must admit that the hefty price tag of $5.95 for just about four onion rings left me a bit surprised and that I can't justify. Opting for takeout, I walked to Love Park, just a 10-minute stroll away. There, amid Philly's vibrant atmosphere, I savored every bite with the cityscape as my backdrop. *explore Philly's vegan delights, including my visit to HipCityVeg on my youtube channel! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE6cC8dOv2U&t=1s

Yelp
I'm so glad I found this place!!! Visiting Philly for work and researched vegan places nearby so I can make sure I have access to food I can eat while in town, and HipCity popped up. Before this trip I joked about Philly cheesesteak (I've never had one because I'm vegan) and how it would be cool if they made a vegan version, never expecting that to be a thing, then saw theirs on the menu! It was SO SO yummy, very good amount of food (I smashed the whole thing), and I was SO excited I was able to try my very first cheesesteak, fully vegan! Their green smoothie was delicious too!

Yelp
Delicious burger, phenomenal presentation and the customer service was top notch. The lady who assisted me was SUPER attentive, nice and professional. I visited this restaurant for the first time and I was really surprised for such a wonderful service. Reasonable prices and great location. Will definitely return!

Yelp
Well... fries were cold. I had the grilled chick'n salad. Skip the salad. It was basically just greens, dressing and three strips of chick'n. I think this place is all about the chick'n sandwiches so I probably ordered wrong but cold fries is a no go for me.
google avatar

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place but it was just ok. The basic b is truly basic and dry - I wish there was more sauce or something to give it more flavor. Sweet potato fries were good, milkshake was ok, I got the birthday cake - basically vanilla shake with sprinkles. It was pricey for the lack of flavor - a dry burger, sweet potato fries, two shakes and a small salad $45. Not worth $45 in my opinion. The employee at the front also looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there, he looked miserable.

Yelp
After touring downtown Philadelphia, I was ecstatic to encounter HipCityVeg while enroute to SEPTA Walnut-Locust off of Broad St. HipCityVeg was a bookmarked restaurant from my last visit to Philadelphia that I did not get the chance to visit. On the menu, I took an interest in the Crispy HipCity ranch but ended up ordering 10pc Golden Nuggets instead for takeout. Along with my order of 10pc Golden Nuggets, I ordered a boylan craft cola drink to go along with it. Once my order was completed, I grabbed my bag from the employee and mentioned the boylan craft cola I ordered. It was then the employee said that it was not added to my order after my mentions of it. I said forget it, thinking that I was not charged for it. However, it was not until I took notice of the transaction later when it bothered me that I was charged $13.59 total when what I received (10pc Golden Nuggets) costs only $7.95. This experience with HipCityVeg, a restaurant I anticipated visiting left a nasty feeling in my stomach, especially after leaving a tip. Other than that, I enjoyed the 10pc Golden Nuggets, but I just cannot see myself visiting, let alone ordering from again while visiting Philadelphia. ~ Be Kind. ALWAYS. ~ Thomas G

Yelp
All star customer service experience. Delicious food at a somewhat okay price! I tried the chicken wrap for the first time and it was a wheat wrapped packed with flavorful deliciousness.

Yelp
Staff is super friendly and I heard the staffer working with a particularly demanding customer after me. She handled it calmly with grace and patience, and was as attentive as possible. Food is flavorful and options are respectable. There is no bathroom for customers or not one I noticed. Another big door lead to some weird well guarded hallway of an older building with marble insides. There is stool seating for three people

Yelp
Do not go here. Seriously. The food is cold, disappointing, and overpriced. HCV, what happened to you? I am sooo sad right now because I used to love your creative flavors and would go out of my way to visit any time I was near one of your stores. Now the menu is bland and relies on highly processed meat substitutes. A few more questions I have for you, HCV, include: why the heck did my husband's Philly cheesesteak have catchup on it? Why was the floor sticky? Why were the shroom booms completely devoid of flavor? Why did the staff cook said shroom booms first and then let them sit in plain sight for a full 10 minutes while the staff made our salad and philly catchup steak? Why couldn't the staff get another customer's gift card to work (that customer left without food)? Why didn't anyone acknowledge another guy who came in after us (he eventually left without ordering)? Why are there only 3 seats for customers who want to eat in instead of take out? Finally, why do I have a stomach ache after eating your food? I really hope it's from the disappointment and not food poisoning.

Yelp
HipCityVeg has a few locations around Philadelphia. I've stopped in here a few times now while staying nearby. I really enjoy the plant based options they have with their version of a plant based Philly being a go to for me. It's flavorful and the bread is very good. The vegan chicken nuggets are good too with a variety of sauces available. I also like the curry tofu wrap. The interior is quite small but they are pretty quick with service. There's about 4 seats inside to sit and eat however they have some tables in the office building lobby in the right corner of the store. The service is quick and the people are friendly. I'll certainly return.
google avatar

Katie O.

Yelp
Menu wasn't super clear on vegan options (I would like more information about what is in each of the sauces). Got the Philly cheese steak and it was decent-- not the best veggie cheese steak. French fries were crispy.

Yelp
Not vegan and still crave Hip City Veg all of the time, Ordered online and the process was seamless- order was ready for pick up in less than 10 min and staff are always really nice! I usually get "chicken"sandwiches but decided to try a burger today and I inhaled it. Basic B burger, regular fries, and nuggets- all so good! This is my first time trying their regular fries, I usually go sweet potato but these are definitely underrated and amazing- better than your McDonald's fry. Everything was delicious and filling. Whenever I go I want to get a million things and it adds up quickly ($) but I'd put this on my weekly lunch rotation. +for being Latina owned!

Yelp
I love this food. Whenever I fly i to philly, it is a must for me to go here before I leave! I literally buy the philly steak, chicken sandwich, and the smokehouse burger with sweet potato fries every single time! Love how accommodating and helpful the staff is.

Yelp
If you're on the hunt for delicious vegetarian food in Philadelphia, Hip City Vege needs to be at the top of your list. It's without a doubt one of the best vegetarian restaurants in the city, and my spouse and I absolutely love it. There are so many amazing dishes on the menu, it's hard to pick just one favorite. The cheesesteak is a must-try, with its perfectly seasoned seitan, grilled onions, and melted vegan cheese. Another standout dish is the smoky sweet crisp chick'n sandwich, which is incredibly flavorful and satisfying. The smokehouse burger is also a great choice, with its savory black bean patty, smoked tempeh bacon, and tangy BBQ sauce. And don't forget the sweet potato fries and chicken nuggets, which are both perfectly crispy and delicious. One thing that sets Hip City Vege apart from other restaurants is the quality of their ingredients. Everything is incredibly fresh, and you can taste the difference. The fries are perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of salt, and the hip city sauce is absolutely mouthwatering. It's the perfect condiment for any dish on the menu. I can confidently say that my spouse and I will be continued customers at Hip City Vege. We've never had a bad meal from here, and it's become our guilty pleasure. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious vegetarian food in Philadelphia. With its amazing dishes, fresh ingredients, and fantastic staff, it's truly a standout restaurant in the city.

Yelp
Really great vegetarian food for the vegetarian/vegan and their meat eating friends! I like meat and burgers, so I'm always a little skeptical about veggie burgers. The Ziggy Burger is probably one of the best meat-like burgers that I've had on par with a Shake Shack or In-N-Out burger. Taste wise, you wouldn't even realize that it's vegetarian because of the Beyond meat which they ground from a chuck version of Beyond Meat (not a preformed and frozen patty). My only suggestion for improvement is to add more lettuce to the burger since it was light on added veggies. The sweet potato fries were great and crispy. Service was amazing because the young lady who helped us gave us great recommendations. Someone else in my group tried the cheesesteak and said it was really delicious too. There are a few stools in the restaurant with additional seating in a connected hallway for the building. That part wasn't too private since people were walking in and out of the area to go to the elevators or enter/exit the building, but the food taste and quality more than compensated.

Yelp
Ok second day in a row at a different location and the customer service remain constant!!! I don't know how you all are training your staff, but keep it up. We were helped today by Naeem, he was super nice even brought our food to our table. I'm shooketh, I've been to overpriced restaurants who didn't have customer service like this. I am a Hip City Veg Fan Girl now

Yelp
Definitely a treat when dining vegetarian, the staff was friendly and I was pleased with the affordable pricing. I wish we had one in Tampa!!! Will definitely be back next time I am in Philly. The buffalo chicke'n sandwich was delicious.

Yelp
Five star rating today, five star rating forever! How have I lived in Philly my whole life and have never been to HipCityVeg?! I've been missing out all these years. I love it here! I placed my order directly through the HipCityVeg website which is linked to DoorDash. I received a text notification that my food would be ready in 20-25 minutes. I went and picked it up before the 20 minute mark and my food was ready. I can honestly say this was the BEST vegan Philly cheesesteak I have ever had and I've had my fair share of vegan cheesesteaks. It was cheesy and piled high with onions and the bread was soft. The sweet po fries were crispy, not oily. The sauces were complimentary at the condiment counter. I devoured this meal and I would get the same thing again in a heartbeat. The employees at this particular location were very nice and let me know they didn't have the boxed water I requested so they provided me with a Spindrift water instead. Really great service all around! HipCityVeg is walking distance from where I work so I will definitely be stopping in on future lunch breaks!
google avatar

Yelp
I consider HipCityVeg a place with flavorful food that just happens to be vegan. It's replaced Chipotle as my go-to when I need "fast food" in the city. I definitely recommend the Chick'n (i.e. fake chicken) Nuggets and Chick'n Fajita Wrap. The Tangerine Turmeric drink was also pretty good and not too sweet. There is spacious extra seating in the lobby next door, but the seating inside the restaurant is very limited.

Andrew C.

Yelp
Great food and service was OK. Had to wait quite a while with only one or two people in front of me. It is quite expensive. Love the people though! They are funny and super nice!

Yelp
In an attempt to eat healthier and incorporate more vegetarian and vegan meals into my diet, I decided I'd try takeout from HipCityVeg. When I worked in the suburbs, I used to love grabbing HipCityVeg for lunch from the Suburban Square location. I ordered directly from their website and decided to get the sweet potato fries and the Ziggy Burger because who doesn't love a special sauce? The food came quicker than the time estimated and was still very hot when it arrived. Everything was as delicious as a I remember, and I love being able to enjoy a burger and fries guilt free. While I don't have pictures, because we all know takeout presentation just doesn't do food any justice, I loved how adorably packaged the burger was! As a non-vegan or vegetarian, I am always super impressed at how delicious the food is at HipCityVeg!

Kevin W.

Yelp
Yum! Had the Philly Cheesesteak, which was quite excellent! Made it a meal deal with fries, served with sriracha aioli, and a Boylan Cola. Yummy vegan junk food, would recommend to a friend!
google avatar

Brinie W.

Yelp
I ordered the 10 piece chick'n nuggets, large fries, HipCity sauce, organic Ketchup, and the green smoothie to-go, and I was pretty disappointed. When I opened up my order back at the hotel, they shorted me a nugget, didn't pack the ketchup AND gave me the small fry instead of large I paid for. So service was clearly not thorough. I wish I would've checked my order before leaving the establishment. Another thing was that aftertaste of the nuggets was not pleasant. I'm not sure if it was the batter or the grease it was fried in, but it was not delicious. The green smoothie was the best part. It was a bit grainy, but it had great flavor and nutrition. The people who worked there were nice, but like I mentioned above, not thorough enough, unfortunately. The ambiance was a bit ramshackle, and not somewhere I'd personally like to dine at. I hope this place improves in the future because I'd love to continue to support places like this. But better service and flavor is a must in order for that to happen
google avatar

Johnny B.

Yelp
The Philly cheesesteak was pretty good option. I also got sweet potato fries and the Sriracha aïoli. Highly recommended the sriracha aioli to be added to anything that you get there especially for dipping the fries.
google avatar

Shifa A.

Yelp
I am not a vegan! But I love hipCityVeg! They have really outdone with their menu. We have been ordering takeout/delivery and have never once been disappointed. Our usual to go is the udon noodle salad which comes with chik'n and the sweet potato fries. The salad is wholesome, fresh and downright delicious. I can personally never finish it in one sitting. In the past i have tried the chik'n nuggets and they pretty good!

Eliza P.

Yelp
Fast food but delicious. Can't believe the chicken sandwich was vegan. Onion rings sooo good. Delicious kale lemonade. Not healthy but delicious. I think I'm going to be craving for a while.
google avatar

Cherie C.

Yelp
So good. A vegan (for strict health reasons) relative wanted to meet for lunch, so we went with the easiest choice. I'd been to the University City location years ago and remembered liking it. This location is more of a takeout place. There are a few stools at a counter and some small tables in the building lobby, which is where we ate. One relative loves the Philly cheesesteak and their sweet potato fries. The other likes the "chicken sandwich." I got a Mediterranean tofu salad, and it really hit the spot on a hot day. I don't usually like meat (not an issue here) or a lot of heavy toppings on my salad, so I worried I'd get lots of tofu and little actual salad. But I found lots of greens and tofu that was firm but not fried (which I prefer). Dressing was good. The salad was probably dressed more than I would have done myself, but it wasn't creamy so it didn't weigh the salad down and really added a lot of flavor. It was satisfying. I'd order it again. I enjoyed a kale lemonade with my lunch and felt good about my lunchtime choices as we left.

Yelp
Never in a hundred years would I have thought Philly would be such an incredible city for vegetarian and vegan foods. Maybe because I don't know much about Philly and all I do know is cheesesteaks. Nevertheless, I was THOROUGHLY pleased and stumbled upon this spot. Great walking distance from The Bellevue for a quick lunch break. The service was very friendly- much different compared to the people on the sidewalk. Don't get confused, I love the east coast attitude. Anyway- staff helped me decide on a burger and WOW! One of the best burgers (meat included) I've ever had! Thick, juicy, cheesy, & tasted fresh. I grabbed all of their sauces and can't remember which I liked the most, but I do remember liking all of them either way. I also got a side of fries but barely touched them because I was stuffed. That's how I knew it was an awesome burger...I didn't finish my fries first! Yum.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Wow I was so impressed with the taste and texture of this food. Ingredients were super fresh and the flavor of everything I tried really popped with just the right level of heat for me. If I can eat this good AND eat healthy I'm all in.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch with a friend - first visit, very impressed. The Philly Steak was very good (although it would be nice to have a whole wheat sandwich bun option, which I didn't see) and the Smokehouse Burger as well. Very good sweet potato fries, too. I will say that Sriracha Aiolli that comes with the fries was good, but also very typical aiolli - nothing special. This place is tiny, so probably most people stop in for take-out. But even though it was lunch hour on a weekday, we were able to sit at the counter in the window. Additional seating in the building lobby next door, seemed a little unappealing to me, but it would work if necessary. Maybe it's been too long since I had a sandwich lunch in CC, but I thought the pricing - burger at $11 and steak sandwich at $10 was no bargain. And if you want some spice on that steak sandwich, you can "Buffalo It" for another dollar. It's not like you can just get some hot sauce with it on the side for no additional charge. Finally, the guy taking the order didn't ask, and we didn't specify that we'd be eating there. So the order came wrapped and in a paper bag with handles, as though we'd be taking it somewhere. It's all recycled content paper (happily, no plastic!), and they have labelled food and paper recycling bins, etc., nevertheless it seemed like a waste to do that packaging.

April Q.

Yelp
okay so, the food was pretty good, but I wouldn't say it's amazing. Liked the sriracha dipping sauce, but the green goddess tasted funny. Tangerine tumeric drink was pretty good. The smoked house burger was just okay. I'd be willing to give it another chance, though, even though it's expensive. I want to try the philly cheesesteak.

Yelp
PHILADELPHIA: any time spent with Brie really works up an appetite because we try to explore as much as possible in whatever town we're visiting. We were craving breakfast and found HipCityVeg, a small plant-based chain in the city. We went to their 121 South Broad St. location, very close to Penn Square. It's a very tiny place, but you can bring your dog into the restaurant to order and then sit at their tables in the vestibule of the North American building which is attached to the place. Sitting in the lobby gave Brie the opportunity to meet so many nice people and get lots of pets and give lots of kisses. The food is excellent and we recommend the HipCity Breakfast sandwich (tofu egg, organic soy mayo, & tempeh). Prices are also reasonable. Can this place come to NJ??? Even a worker said he's not vegan, but loves the food! We love any place that's dog friendly and animal cruelty free.

Yelp
If you find yourself in the center city area of Philadelphia and need a quick healthy bite to eat I definitely recommend this place. There are plenty of great choices for carnivorous types but for quasi-vegetarians like me there are also a number of really good vegan options here. The. Beyond Meat vegan burger. I had this two days in a row here. W hat I love about today's veggie burgers is they are nearly indistinguishable from meat patties. The curry tofu wrap is also an excellent healthy choice and it's a nice sized wrap with lots of taste. I recommend and aïoli sauce to pick it up even a step more. The sweet potato fries dipped in their own hip city sauce make for a really nice side. The nuggets are also vegan and really good! They combine well with the fries if that's all you're having. The folks working here are also great - very helpful, and can let you know exactly what's in the food as well as how it's prepared. In a world of toxic foods I've got a special place in my heart for quick and healthy options and they score high at this great little spot. I'll definitely be back when I'm in this part of town.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this chain. As a vegan I was sure I gave up cheesesteaks for the rest of my life but that inclination changed after ordering from HCV. We obviously had to take our food to go (there's no seating inside and even if there were .. covid wouldn't allow it) and despite it being about 40° outside, we found a little park close by & quickly devoured our food. Highly recommend getting a side of nuggets. Pretty sure they're made with tofu (a huge plus for me) and they have the tastiest breading.

Yelp
I first had HipCityVeg 3 years ago while visiting Philly and was dying to return. I thought the other location was small, but this one might be smaller. There are 3 seats facing the window and then additional seating in what seems to be the lobby in the building next door. My favorite has always been the Crispy Chicken Ranch, however I was slightly disappointed because it was dry; too little ranch and too much "chicken." The gentleman who took our order suggested an amazing off menu sandwich with BBQ and avocado, the "Wizard." It was delicious! Carrot Ginger Lemonade tasted kinda like regular lemonade, but I remember the Kale one being good. I'll be back the next time I'm in Philly!
google avatar

Arcadia S.

Yelp
Prices have gone up. More locations now. Same great menu and same great staff. ... I needed a restroom while waiting and my temperature was taken, then I was allowed to proceed. My son and I both got the "crispy chicken with ranch" sandwich I've gotten there many times before and recall it being much crispier and smothered with more ranch. So I think they changed some things up. My son doesn't like ranch and was able to substitute for a different sauce off the menu. Our order came to $23 for just the two chicken ranch sandwiches. I think the hike in prices on everything makes me less likely to go there next time I'm in Center City (Philly) or DC as there are more vegan options at better prices elsewhere. But it was a nice treat today.

Yelp
This place is tiny! I believe other locations may have more seating but this spot has three seats by the window and I happily claimed one to smash my food. I was in Philly for work and NEEDED to find a vegan cheesesteak. Especially after the previous night's shenanigans. After a little yelp and Instagram research (professional food stalker), I stumbled upon HipCityVeg which is 100% vegan/plant based. Their philly has great reviews but I was a little skeptical because they put ketchup on the sandwich... why doe? I was able to leave the ketchup off and add ranch because who doesn't love ranch? Oh. My. God. This cheesesteak was the best I've ever had!! Even better than any real meat cheesesteak and I haven't been vegan that long to forget flavor! Vegan food that's amazing that satisfies old cravings, yum! The bread was perfectly soft and fresh filled with plenty of toppings: mushrooms, onions, seitan and vegan cheese. I can't wait to return to try their chicken sandwich which seems to be even more popular. They also have healthier whole food plant based items on their menu which I'm sure are delicious! I was tempted by their orange creamsicle milkshake but I'll have to try another time.

Yelp
I love mock meat - well, most times, that is. I love mock meat that doesn't market itself that way, you know? For instance, as a vegetarian, I really don't want a substitute that tastes like meat- that's not what I'm going for. I want something with texture, a unique flavor, and the potential to let me understand and taste a dish I otherwise would have been kept in thee dark about. When I visited Philadelphia, I was pleasantly overwhelmed by their menu, mostly because the Midwest has almost nothing like it. (Actually, nothing like it). I was more overwhelmed by the fact that we, a rather non-adventurous Indian family, could all find things we enjoyed and would happily eat again. The jerk caesar is exactly what you'd want and expect out of caesar salad. What thrilled me was the fact that THIS chicken caesar, I could actually eat! HipCityVeg is a great chain and conceptually, deserves a high level of praise. Perhaps American cuisine has omnivorous hope after all.

Yelp
Gluten free options available just ask! I'm gluten free and vegan and this place was wonderful. It was like having a '50s burger fries and shake but I could eat it! The staff was courteous and understanding and took time to explain the different menu options and assure me that it would be safe for me to eat. My companion had no dietary restrictions but loved the shake and fries more than "traditional" ingredient places. Would recommend to anyone who wants a delicious hearty meal with only goodness for your body and the planet. Love the eco packaging commitment. Bar seating in the front window or table seating outside or in the lobby all very accommodating.

Yelp
My girlfriend loves this place, and we order delivery whenever she craves. They have an awesome lunch deal that is super worth it. I was so surprised the cheesesteak was so tasty with no meat! The sweet potato fries and sauce are bomb. The udon salad is great mix of flavors and textures. They are a staple in our takeout rotation.

Yelp
As a vegetarian, I love coming to HipCityVeg for the innovative menu and friendly atmosphere. Pros: - the vegan cheesesteak is delicious. It is my go to every time and satiates my hunger. - Same great menu with plenty of options worth trying. Aside from the cheesesteak, I also really like the chipotle wrap. - more locations and awesome staff Cons: - can't really think of any besides the lack of parking, but it is center city, so that is expected.

Yelp
Food is usually really good, but the cashier was more interest in her phone than the service. She stop to text multiple times instead of serve the food. I was given cold fries, asked for new fries and was given new cold fries by the staff member who was busy with her phone. I would go back but probably wouldn't be able to order because cashier would just be on her phone.....

Yelp
Fast casual vegan foods. Easy to access a vegan meal any time of day here. The hip city breakfast sandwich is yummy as are their sandwiches, fries, and salads. They have more seating at the location through the door on the right which is a shared space, it's the lobby of a apartment/office building...Kind of interesting, unique. The bathroom is also in this adjoining building and you can get the key from the building door person who sits at the desk.

Yelp
This location was so understaffed and the wait was insane. I felt bad for them but the business needs to consider these things. And I'm thankful for the new menu update including more gluten free but nothing is mentioned or marked that way on the menu?

Yelp
Ordered during COVID for pickup. The website makes it really easy. Ordered the taco argues salad with chicken and chicken nuggets. The taco salad was way more filling that I expected. The dressing was good, portions were good. Regretted getting the nuggets because I was fairly full from the salad. Also, online it asks if you want them with buffalo sauce, Miss read that it was tossed in the sauce vs on the side. Wish we got regular. So just double check. It tasted good but overall not a buffalo sauce fan.

Yelp
No photos, but worth a visit. Must get: ziggy burger and chick'n sandwiches Meh: curry tofu wrap Missed out: desserts I am neither a vegan nor hipster, however, I can appreciate a good sandwich. Hipcityveg is a small joint, with maybe 2-3 seats for the casual visitor to enjoy their food. The staff were friendly and pleasant and we were able to order without any significant delays. Of note, the food is made on order, so you may need to wait a while. I was surprised by both of burger/sandwiches that my friends got. They were scrumptous but so...small! The faux meat didn't taste like meat...but I never expect nor care for an exact mimicry. However, the tempeh/soy equivalent was very well seasoned and had a great mouthfeel. I did not like the curry tofu wrap, as the wheat wrap itself was overwhelming and robbed the flavoring of the curry. Many of the options were about $8+, so you definitely may need more than one to stave off your hunger, but if you're vegan or just like plain good food, hipcityveg will hit the spot. Food: 4 stars Price: 3-4 stars Service: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Yelp
Amaaaaaaazing food. I ate lunch and then came back for dinner and got lunch for the next day. Got buffalo burger, jerk chaser salad and chopped med. they agreed to add peanuts in the chopped med even though that's not included. It's all plant based vegetarian. I usually don't care when menus use names like sausage and chicken for vegan food, which is the case here. But I suppose that works for meat lovers. The staff is friendly, there's some seating. Will certainly come back when in town next!!!
