Hippo Burgers

I’ve been wanting to try these guys for a long time. They did not disappoint! I purchased a blue burger alongside onion rings. I haven’t had a burger like this in a very long time! What ever burger you decide to get you will taste everything. It’s not your typical burger joint. they are always fresh even through the drive-thru. Highly recommend stopping here for a great tasting burger.

Food was delicious ! Little to no wait time. Burgers had flavor and it wasnt too bad of a price

Food was good, I ordered the chili burger and it was better than expected. Cajun fries were seasoned just right. Limited seating inside but other than that, pretty good.

Hippo Burgers is most certainly one of my family’s “let’s celebrate by…” options. Their burgers never fail to satisfy and their fries could be eaten without ketchup! Love the food, and the staff is professional. Be warned that you will be waiting a few minutes in the drive through because it’s cooked to order. Without a doubt a great place to visit, even if at least once. Food didn’t disappoint 5, service is professional and in point 5, atmosphere of a truck stop leaves something to be desired, but really, don’t let that stop you.

1st off to be clear, I was informed the prices are supposed to increase tomorrow, so my photos of the menu today may be outdated by the time you see them. I was curious how good this place could be. The pictures on the menu look amazing and most of the reviews would indicate that as well. I ordered the Hippo Sriracha Burger and it was amazing! The patty was thick and juicy and was even bigger than the huge bun. The toppings were fully loaded and did not disappoint. They even have jalapeño ketchup at the tables. This was definitely a great choice when I was searching for where to try for lunch!

Chose this place out of others in the area as this place was close to my next destination and wondered how the food is. Established next to a gas station, the building is on the left side and upon entering, the atmosphere is small and minimalistic. Not to say it’s bad, but you go there to get your food and eat. 4/5 On a Tuesday during evening it’s not empty but not crowded, I’d say around a few people. Customer service is expected (ordered my food, pay it for it, no issues) I got #1 on the menu and Vanilla Shake for around $18, including tips (15%) although tipping culture and how it’s shown on the machine is pretty much “emotion-guided” if you feel bad about not tipping. Without tips it’s still a bit hefty on price. Price is 2/5 The Hippo Burger (#1 on menu) - Texture: 3/5 I honestly expected the patty to have at least some juice in it but it does fall apart easily, showing that it’s lean from what I can tell. - Flavor: 4/5 The smokiness from the patty alongside the acidity of pickles and crunchy veggies gives it a nice “burger” flavor. Although has similar flavor to a whataburger burger. Overall rating: 3/5 Lower side if you prefer a juicier burger, otherwise 4/5. Take note of the buns though the butter pairs well. Shake (Vanilla) - Texture: 3/5 I’d say from a thickness scale from 1-5 (low viscosity to highest) I’d rate it a 3. Not too watery like water but not thick to the point you can’t drink from it. - Flavor: 4/5 I assume a shake will include mixing in ice cream and milk to make it, as this drink is slightly sweet, combined with the flavor of milk and vanilla ice cream. Comparable to chic fil a shakes honestly if I had to relate to another chain. - Overall Rating: 4/5 I couldn’t find anything noteworthy, but a vanilla shake is a vanilla shake. Overall place rating: 4/5, although I do not recommend myself to come back again because of prices and other chains have competitive prices with almost the same quality.

Got a number 10. Bacon cheeseburger with jalapeños with an order of onion rings and a small drink. Paid $19.86 burger is mid at best definitely over priced.

I order a chili dog and a plain hot dog and they were both pretty good. My buddy ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and said it was really good. He did try to get a ranch and they wanted to charge $1 which was pretty crazy considering we just spent over $35 on food.

Great burger overall! Had the jalapeño cheeseburger with garlic fries. Beautiful bun on bottom and sesame seed top bun. All the way on the fixings. Ordered it's ago and within 10 minutes. It was ready when I arrived. Definitely will return to try other items like chili cheese fries!

I wish I took a photo, but I was driving. You guys' burgers are good. But, what made the rating so low--is the fact that I paid for a "shake", thinking it'd be a real milkshake. But, it was literally just MILK. MILK, with some crushed up cookies and a bunch of whipped cream on top; (I ordered cookies & cream). $7!!!!!! FOR MILK!!! I'm PISSED! "Shakes" are made with ice cream! On top of that, I had to go back and forth (nicely) with the guy you all had at the register, because he gave me one with CHOCOLATE SYRUP in it. Never in my life, have I ordered a "cookies & cream" milkshake and had chocolate syrup added to it. It's supposed to be vanilla ICE CREAM with crushed up Oreos added to it. don't know if he didn't understand English well or what--but, that experience should have never been so confusing and it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Then, he handed me the drink back to me, after saying he was gonna change it, and I'm sure he just stirred the syrup in. You all have serious business issues that need to be fixed. You don't know what people are allergic to and you all are just making products the wrong way. Absolutely crazy. I can't believe you all actually sell that.--MILK. And, not only that--but, I can't believe that it's still on the menu, years later. That's such a lazy way to do business. Absolutely ridiculous. And, then on top of that--you guys overcharge for your fries. Regular potatoes don't even cost much and you all charge as much as you do, just to give a small amount. Not even gonna lie--I may never come back. As I've stated, the burgers are good; well, the two I've tried--the mushroom and the bbq burger. In addition to this, the bbq burger has never been the same since the first time I ordered it. Which is super disappointing. You expect the food to be made the same way every time you come. It just turned me off. I'm truly disappointed.lol No one wants to drive to a specific restaurant, pay their hard earned money, and then be disappointed in the meal--especially, being a returning customer. Sorry. Or, rather you guys should apologize to *me. I can not get over that phony shake!

Sriracha burger: the meat was okay but the toppings elevated the burger for sure. Wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce but definitely added flavor Chicken especial: the grilled chicken was surprisingly packed with flavor and was super juicy! The bacon and jalapeños were great additions to the already tasty sandwich. Although I was initially skeptical of the grilled part, I would highly recommend trying it! The ambience was alright, good enough to sit there and catch up with friends over some lunch. The service was super fast and all the servers were great:)

First visit to this establishment which came highly recommended but for my taste buds it was just fair. In my burgers I always look for that homemade wow factor that reminds you of mom's greasy and homemade toasted buns and juicy burgers which is extremely hard to find and duplicate. So I'm extremely critical of my reviews on burgers and so far only one has met those expectations which is Mister Hamburger in Huntsville Texas but I always continue my search for the ultimate burger. The restaurant was empty and quiet with very little traffic.

Food is a 4+, location/ambiance leave something to be desired. Burgers are huge and clearly hand-shaped in house; really flavorful and filling. We came on a Saturday around noon and there was no wait; food was out in less than 10 min. They have tons of burger and chicken sandwich options, so most anyone should be able to find something to their liking. Friendly staff, generally pretty clean, sparse space.

Really enjoyed my burger here! This place is a hidden gem - it's hard to see because its attached to a gas station. I only found it because I was looking on Yelp for a burger, and Yelp didn't disappoint! After looking at the menu, I decided to get the kids cheese burger because it came with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. It may not look that great but I loved the burger! The bun was my favorite part I think. It was a hearty bun - thick bread that tasted fresh. And the kids size was really like a regular burger to me. The fries were hearty - thick cut fries that were hot and not too much seasoning if at all, but I actually like that because I'm trying to cut back on sodium. The price wasn't bad either for a kids meal. I think I spent under $8, and I'm always looking for a bargain. Thank you Hippo Burger!

These burgers are excellent, featuring generous, juicy patties. The BLT boasts thick-cut strips of bacon cooked crispy and delicious. The veggies are cold and sweet with just the right amount of mayo, all between two potato buns. The first time I have the fries which are cooked crisp and not greasy, but the second time I tried the onion rings which were the best rings I've ever had. I can't wait to have them again.

This place was a shocker!! Really good It's attached to a crappy little gas station so right off the bat it seems sketch. ITS NOT!! Food: I had the hippo special burger! Added some Cajun chef hot sauce to top it off. The bun was crisp to perfect on the top and bottom. Big patty with good quality meat. Not some premade patty crap, I saw them making them. This burger was on point! Service: it's an order at the counter spot but staff was friendly! I'll definitely be back!! Ps.... I took a picture but apparently my zoom call didn't let it save.

I think Hippo Burger is 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up to 4. It's a small unassuming place connected to a gas station. The ambiance is definitely lacking, and the day we were there, multiple patrons had not bussed their tables despite there being disposal places next to the tables, so it felt a bit dirty. However, the food made up for the environment. Their burgers are a hefty 1/2 lb, so I opted to split their Hippo cheeseburger, a chocolate shake, and an order of garlic fries. The shake was good, but not the best I've had. The garlic fries were really unique. They were loaded with garlic flavor and had a good crispness to them without being overcooked. The burger was really delicious and I could see the patty had been seared really nicely, while the inside was ever so slightly pink. I will say the guy taking the orders didn't have the best customer service, but we didn't interact long enough to affect the meal. I would come back for a tasty burger and fries--it looks like they have a drive through too for convenience.

The location is at a gas station but the burger was amazing. Beef was seasoned well and veggies were crisp.

As others have said, it's attached to a gas station--which was a little jarring. Don't let that fool you though because this place had legit tasty burgers--with a lot of different options. The milkshakes were very good too. Would absolutely eat here again next time I'm in Houston.

This place is in a gas station, so if that's not your thing, just know that right upfront. I'm not one who cares about such things when the food is good. These burgers are very good (Joy Love does and will forever have my burger loving heart) but this place is definitely worth a try. Came here with a friend to give them a shot and I'm happy I did. The mushroom burger was very juicy and delicious, and my friend enjoyed his burger as well. It's a gas station so parking is limited, but available and the service was very friendly. I would definitely return here again, and if you haven't checked it out please do!

Just awesome, homemade tasting burgers. Perfect amount of bread/meat/topping ratio. Fresh, flavorful. Not overpriced. Better than many $20 burgers I've had. Highly recommend, and I never leave reviews,

Lead off review 2022. Happy new Year Yelpies. Hippos burgers Is a solid Burger Chain. The few times I've been in, it's constantly busy with people coming in and out for a lot of to go orders. They have a vast selection of burgers and chicken sandwiches. The burgers are all half pounder's and on my last visit, I ordered the guacamole. burger. It was a juicy succulent beef patty with cheese and sautéed onions and they actually had guacamole spread all on the buns. I also ordered hippo fries that were A pretty good quantity And very well seasoned. They also have quite a bit of different varieties of french fries. There are shakes on the menu also and their prices are fairly reasonable for the quantity that they serve.

Pretty great overall! It's not the absolute most flavorful patty I've ever had, but it's clearly of high quality... maybe add the salt and pepper yourself. At first we were nervous about the gas station being attached, usually a sign of low quality, but service was nice and the interior was pretty clean. I ordered the burger with bacon and jalapeños and she got the one with mushrooms. We both said the cheese was hard to notice on the burger and mine needed more flavor (I.e. salt and especially pepper) and she said hers should have had sautéed mushrooms instead or raw and that's why they didn't have the flavor she wanted. All in all JLB is still king of burgers in the neighborhood, but that's guys are doing really great too!

Very good place for hamburgers. They have things like Sriracha burgers and various condiments like avocados and spicy ketchup. This place is on par with Five Guys in taste. The burgers taste very fresh and everyone that I have taken here really like it.

Incredible burger and Cajun fries! Best burger and fries I've had in a long time! Stop in!

The burger was yummy. The wings on the other hand was pre bread and lemon pepper and garlic parmesan was just poured over. Would not recommend the wings at all. The chili cheese fries and the cheese sticks were good. I would visit again but would only by burgers on the next trip.

Best burger I have ever gotten from a gas station. So so good! Large and in charge you must try it before you leave Houston

The quality of the food and the service both were subpar during our visit. We ordered two milkshakes, two burgers, and a salad. The salad was put together with the chopped lettuce and toppings from the burgers - ultimately was not a good tasting salad. The bun on the burger dwarfed the meat, too much bread. The milkshakes we ordered didn't come out until we were finishing our meal, we even stood at the counter to wait for it and the staff chose to take new orders instead of wrapping up peoples' orders that were already in the restaurant and waiting for the rest of their order. No apology or acknowledgement from staff. We won't be going back.

Food was good and filling, but very expensive! Okay for special occasions or once in a while. Dining room was closed when we tried it so we had to wait in the drive-thru

Really good burger. Good mix of being big (half pound), juicy and yet smashed and a good scald as well. Salted and peppered very well, too. As all others say, don't let the fact that it is attached to a gas station fool you. They have plenty of seating and the food is good. Really good burger; just not quite in the outstanding category.

I absolutely love this place. The burger is served fresh off the grill and has to be one of the best burgers in town.

We've been here one other time as my son's swim meet is at a pool not too far away and Yelp has always pointed me here. The burgers and shakes are always spot-on. The location may not look the most ideal but don't get fooled by it. They come in BIG flavors and the price is fairly cheap considering the huge portion size of their burgers.

I wish I could give this place a 3.65 stars. A solid 4.5 star for the incredible burgers. Great size and taste. So if you're planning on going here for JUST the burgers do it. But my 60+ year old family member couldn't handle the grease of the fries and ended up getting hospitalized afterwards for it. It was like the fries were being fried in the same grease for weeks. And tator tots were soggy. 0/5 for hot dog. Legit was just a small hot dog you can grab from the dollar store fridge aisle and put some toppings on it. Not worth the $4. It was legit like concession stand hot dog style.

Hippo Burgers are great! My wife and I ordered their cheeseburgers with Cajun fries. It's nice to be back in Texas where a good burger is just around the corner but Hippo Burgers is a road trip worthy destination.

I've been looking for a good affordable burger place and I've finally found it I've passed it a couple time but was iffy bc it's attached too a gas station but it's the definition of don't judge a book by it's cover best burgers I've had in awhile ‼‼‼

Saw the good reviews so the wife and I had to try. All the food was good we had burgers and hot dogs and tator tots and mozzarella sticks. And the wife got a shake to go. We have been back twice in 2 weeks. Good food and not a long wait.

It was one of those grumpy days and I wanted a home style, real burger to use as comfort - but I wanted drive thru - I was definitely done with people for the day. This burger was phenomenal. I got the cheeseburger with nothing special added Z it was quick tasty and amazing

Food is great delivery sucks. Supposed to call or text and leave it at an emergency exit. Ordered food 3 times on Yelp and all three were cold and had to find Waldo.

Good old school burgers with GREAT service. The ambiance is very outdated but it's expected at a place as good as this.

Drove 30 minutes to get here before closing and to my surprise they closed an hour early. I arrived at 8pm when then close at 9pm. Employees were inside with the doors locked and drive thru off.

Tried this for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Great food and service. Employees are so helpful. Great place and reasonably priced. They are located at Gessner and North Sam (Beltway) next door to a Texaco. Worth a stop.

Oh my god. This place is so good. Me and my girlfriend wanted burgers for a quick at home anniversary and decided to try this place and IT DID NOT FAIL!!! The burgers are HUGE and so so good!!! We love this place and it's now our favourite food place to order

Excellent burger! Juicy and tender. Onion rings were good and fries were ok. Chocolate shake was yummy and hand spun. Service was friendly and prompt.

First off the manager Aurelio is very nice and does a great job! He took my order over the phone and was very personable. He went out of his way to tell me about the menu. He was very pleasant over the phone. You can tell he really likes what he does. He told me about the special for 9.99 so I went with that. You get any burger on their menu, fries and a drink for 9.99. Heck of deal! Food: the bacon cheeseburger is really good! Made to perfection and made fresh. The bacon was good too. Very good actually. Bun was tasty. I am a fan. The fries were really good too they have a lot of options for burgers. I will definitely be back to try more things off their menu. Hippo burgers are great. I've been here twice now and I can't think of a single reason not to give a 5 star review. The food is always made fresh to order, yet still served quickly. No shortcuts here. The large sesame seed bun is grilled, upping the burgers. Fresh hot fries, lots of choices, lunch specials, friendly efficient staff and clean restaurant. They hit all the marks . Highly recommend checking this place. Also, big also, they have lots more to offer other than burgers.

I love the avocado burger and sweet potatoes!! Will definitely recommend this place I'm a very picky burger person andI really loved the flavor!

Hippo burgers has some good burgers and fries! The portions are pretty big and you can get full fast. I got the Hippo burger and a chicken burger. Both were good and fresh. I also got garlic tots and chili cheese tots. If you're getting the chili cheese fries Togo, ask for the chili and cheese on the side. Also got the lemon pepper wings and they were salty but pretty good. Not bad and I'll hopefully try more menu items later!

Great service! And delicious food! Love love love. Most def recommend and will return.
