Hiramatsu Kodaiji

"This is elegant dining, with views of Yasaka Pagoda and the old city of Kyoto. The chef creates French cuisine perfectly attuned to this location, incorporating elements of classic French cooking with ingredients that are quintessentially Kyoto. For example, the hamo fritters are paired with a consommé soup redolent with truffles. The red bell-pepper mousse, a staple since the restaurant was founded, is an amuse-bouche that epitomises the phrase, ‘pleasure in a single bite’." - Michelin Inspector

This place was INCREDIBLE! The service, the presentation, the view, the quality and quantity of food was 10/10. If you want a meal that will not only fill you up but will be some of the best tasting food, come here. Cannot explain how respectful and kind the staff was too.

Very posh, very beautiful and wonderful scenic views of the Kyoto skyline! Very attentive staff, delicious food - the courses were astoundingly good - very Michelin! Highly recommend coming here to celebrate a special occasion or just a nice treat! Food was very well cooked and presented. Lovely atmosphere and quiet!

Booked the lunch menu initially for the view but unfortunately the view is the only thing that's remarkable for this restaurant and what's even more unfortunate is I've seen much better views somewhere else. Where do I start? I was quite excited about the French and Japanese inspired cuisine but no one dish wowed me or made me feel "ah that's really nice". All dishes were plain and boring. You can't say there's no innovation, like carrot puree on steak, but why? What kind of weiredest combination is that? Probably I live in Europe myself and have the opportunity to try more European restaurants, but I definitely have higher expections to a Michelin one star French restaurant in Kyoto. The wine glasses looked like IKEA. Didn't even want to post a picture.

Magnificent scenery; terrific food quality…very long time I haven’t experienced a restaurant that deserves the Michelin star. Should come!!! It will de difficult to book in future. Try lunch to have the best scenic view.

Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever posted a bad review before in my life… but if I can save at least one person the disappointment that will be worth it. We went in to celebrate my 30th birthday, and chose the special birthday menu. The service and the view is impeccable. Sadly the food is absolutely atrocious. It’s not just disappointing from a cost ratio point of view, what with this place being quite expensive, it’s just very bad food. Extremely bland, no taste at all, very average produce. We had to suffer through the embarrassment of asking for salt and pepper in a one star Michelin establishment, a new low for me. I frankly felt sad for the front of house who delivered a stellar performance, only to be completely let down by atrocious food. If I can muster the will to think upon this disastrous meal again tomorrow, I’ll be writing to Michelin to ask for explanation. This is by no means worthy of a star, it barely should be called a restaurant as it is for the food. I probably sound like a toss but so be it, if at least one person hesitating reads this and decide against spending a special meal there it will be worth it… I certainly hope I’d read a similar comment before I decided on celebrating my 30th in this dreadful place.

We had a pretty good dinner at Hiramatsu Kodaiji. The food was good and nicely presented, though I cannot say that it was Michelin star spectacular. The lobster and wagyu main courses were good. Again, everything was good, but nothing was extraordinary (as compared to other restaurants we visited in Kyoto). Service was very good. Views of Kyoto were indeed spectacular. As was the bill, which at 148000 yen (over $1000) for a family of four was totally unjustified given the food.

Great food with amazing view of Kyoto. I tried their special holiday menu and while every dish was amazing the duck in puff pastry was a highlight.

An almost perfect experience. Great food, a great incredible wine selection, and the view was incredible. Service was also polite and impeccable until the very last moment, where we were offered to be reserved a taxi, and was then told there were no taxi's available. This would have been fine, if only we hadn't walked out and found two taxis reserved for groups who arrived later than us, and were definitely leaving later than us. This left us walking back in the rain (they did offer us a free umbrella for the walk back, however). Overall, 4.5 stars rounding down to 4 stars due to the bad feeling the taxi situation left us in
