"What is it that draws legions of visitors from near and far to this tranquil village in Markgräflerland? Douce Steiner and Udo Weiler's hotel-restaurant is housed in a picture-perfect building that dates back over 500 years. It boasts a charming, elegant dining area and friendly, attentive service. Windows allow a glimpse into the kitchen, where the chefs create a five- to seven-course set menu that takes its cue from the seasons. In doing so, they draw on classic French influences and use regional produce wherever possible. Ultra-fresh langoustine royale, for example, is elevated by the subtle contrasts provided by a combination of red Kampot pepper, pink grapefruit, olive oil and basil. To round out the set menu, you have the option to include classic extras such as foie gras or frogs' legs. Tip: Leave some room for the wonderful selection of small treats to go with your espresso. The idyllic courtyard is a lovely spot in which to enjoy an aperitif or digestif. Should you wish to extend your stay, very tasteful guestrooms are available." - Michelin Inspector

We stayed there for 2 nights, rooms are OK (but on the small side) and breakfast is decent. However, it was very hot in the room which made it hard to sleep. Opening the window helps with the heat but due to the central location it is very noisy.

Stayed in January for a long weekend. Excellent location with close bars, restaurants, and night life. Metro/trains close walk. Hotel was clean, staff very friendly. I appreciated the fob others commented on, it was unique, and retrieving the fob from staff was very easy and created a nice relation with staff. Would recommend!

Perfect stay! Excellent location 10mins walk from the main train station and right in the heart of the old town. Beautiful hotel, friendly staff. Very comfortable, clean and nice room. Had everything we needed for a one night stay! Lovely view from the room overlooking the old town - would stay here again.

We stayed here for two nights to explore and before transferring to Chur for the Bermina glass train. I wouldn't recommend this hotel, it's very basic. The room was small with no where comfortable to sit apart from a wooden chair and table. No where to relax. The bed was a small double with poor quality bedding and a thin duvet. The bathroom is very small and basic. Breakfast was ok, not a huge selection but the melon and yoghurt was refreshing and good, lady in breakfast room was very helpful and pleasant. Gentleman on reception was frosty and not overly welcoming. Overall we were disappointed with what we paid for this hotel and will be speaking to the travel agents to hopefully secure some sort of refund. Avoid booking.

We stayed here for two nights before relocating to Chur for the Bermina train journey. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. It’s very basic. The room was small, no where comfortable to sit just a table and chairs. Small double bed with poor quality linen and a very thin duvet. Small bathroom, very compact , very small shower. Breakfast was adequate, small selection. The melon and natural yoghurt was lovely though. Staff in the breakfast room were very pleasant. Gentleman on reception was not overly friendly and a bit abrupt. Overall not worth the money we paid and feedback will be given to our travel agent in the hope of some sort of refund.. AVOID.

One of my favorite places to be. The wine bar Weinschenke in the old wine cellar of Hotel Hirschen is a real pearl in the heart of Zurich. Perfect for a relaxing evening, alone, with your loved ones or even a group of friends, the atmosphere changes so easily according to your mood. Cozy, lots of candles, very good service. And don't even let me starting on a wine list! It's amazing what they offer there. You can have snacks and great choice of cheeses as well, I always start with tartare beef, it's one of the best in Zurich. By the way, summer time there is a top floor terrace open as well, they will serve you there anything on the same menu. And the view over the old town will not disappoint! Recommended.

Great location. Average facilities. Some comforts provided (toiletries/slippers/24h reception) but no mini fridge or smart door lock. Handing in the key every time you leave quite inconvenient. Staff is rude, unprofessional and overall far from friendly. Breakfast is an absolute joke (no croissants left at 8.30am, leftover yogurt/porridge presented in the same container the following day and lack of variety). Considering the price, not worth it, pick somewhere else.

Excellent service and location, easy to get to the main train station and the lake. The shower did sometimes change temperature but not by much, not as bad as others said!

Yelp
What a wonderful experience I had at this hotel. I was only here for one night but I was placed into a room which I wasn't totally happy with, simply because it was 2 seperate twin beds, I wanted a queen. But the receptionist was very polite and made the switch for me right away and gave me a wonderful room with a view of the courtyard below, it felt like an upgrade! Yes in general the rooms and bathroom are smaller but that's just how it is in Europe and I actually felt the room was plenty spacious! Later on I went down to the wine cellar which was soo incredibly cozy and relaxing. The wine was delicious and the meat and cheese platter YUM. In comparison to other hotels in the area I feel I paid less than the others. Also the location is super convenient! I do recommend staying here.

Yelp
I paid a rather steep price compared to the elegant and classy hotels I've just been in in France and Italy. And it is exactly the kind of place I want to avoid. Three stars for the location (and the great view outside my room), but this place is in need of a top to bottom redo, stat. Some folks might call it quaint; I call it shabby. The walls are scuffed up, the furniture and fixtures are from a distant (and not "quaint") era, and the carpet is a thin, blue "indoor-outdoor" model that saw better days long ago. I don't want to spend my last two nights in Europe in a hideous, beat up place like this but it's too late in the day and too cold now to find another. Look carefully at the photos (you should be more careful than I apparently was) before you book.

Yelp
Great location. Staff are okay. CAUTION TO ALL AMERICANS/TOURISTS: 1. the Swiss do not know what friendly is. They are polite, perhaps, if you're lucky. 2. It is expensive! But this place was a decent bed and location. The wine bar below looked very nice, but we had just gotten off the plane and needed sleep for the next day or so.

Yelp
This is a review for the hotel. We loved this place -friendly employees and we had a room at the front (has a view of the popular nightclub walking street -no cars allowed). We didn't mind the occasional noise from partiers walking below us. It was easy to walk t othe train station and many parts of central Zurich - and the streetcars were only a couple blocks away. We would stay here again!

Yelp
Booked a room for over $200CHF for one night, and it was the worst room: next to the elevator and within 5 meters to the reception area, the walls were extremely thin. When asked to switch to a reasonably quiet room, receptionist was extremely hostile and would not switch room until we agree to pay additional surcharge. If you want an unrestful stay in a thin-walled hotel, you have found it. There are hostels better than this hotel.

Yelp
Stayed here for business. Small room and even smaller bathroom, but that's ok. Still really enjoyed the European feel of it. Enjoyed breakfast each morning and location was great in the old town area. 10 minute walk to main train station in Zurich to get to anywhere in Europe.
