"Named after an aromatic Mediterranean plant, this Michelin-starred restaurant has been enjoying the fruits of its success for some time now, in part due to its competitive pricing. In the contemporary, minimalist-style dining room, chef Oriol Ivern serves fresh, creative dishes that offer a different take on Catalan culinary tradition, and are always based around locally sourced seasonal ingredients and impressive combinations. In keeping with the chef’s personality, the aim of his cuisine is to offer truly unique dishes that are both playful and full of surprising detail. Although not extensive, the enticing à la carte is complemented by an interesting tasting menu with a wine pairing option. A must here, and one that is requested time and time again, is the red mullet with a “mollusc” mayonnaise." - Michelin Inspector

Where To Go Next in Barcelona

"From the slender vases with lipstick-red roses hung on stark white walls to the cooling watermelon-tomato soup, everything here is a fashion statement. Chefs Oriol Ivern and Guillem Pla pull off such risky combinations as potato 'velvet'—a silky puree—with sausage, sardines and raspberry sauce (it works!). But the dish not to miss is the squab, presented on a triangular plate alongside a granite slab holding five different peppers and salts." - Food & Wine Editors

Google
You can get the tasting menu with a full wine pairing at a comparatively low price. I loved the great variety of wines, from sherry to cider, but while I liked all the dishes, the menu was lacking a true standout that I've come to expect from Michelin Star restaurant. Additionally the atmosphere was hurt a bit by the lack of decor and the somewhat run down look of the ceiling.

I had a fantastic dinner here. I’m so glad my re-introduction to Spanish gastronomy started off here. I was fortunate enough to partake in 9 tasting menu experiences during this visit. This was the first one. Because the Spanish like to eat dinner late, I was the first person in the whole restaurant. Decided to sit at the table closest to the front door, but facing the kitchen, so I could see all the action. Great decision on my part. The tasting menu consisted of 6 food items, 2 desserts and a cheese plate. I decided to do the wine pairing for funsies. The focus here was on seafood. There was lots. Surprisingly, what stood out for me was the pigeon. At least I think it was pigeon. It was so sumptuous. The service was top notch. There were two people taking care of literally everyone and they were on it. You couldn’t tell they were stressed. They looked like they had it handled.

Google
It’s a Michelin one star restaurant but that I can’t feel they deserve it. The dishes taste good but lack of creative and amazing presentation. I was disappointed about the service level that is far behind the Michelin standard. You can’t find a slightly smile in each staffs’ faces. One advantage is the wine pairing is not expensive, but again the quality may not meet the expectations

Google
Great food, you can eat the entire tasting menu and you still feel light after which is nice. In my opinion this is more of a bib gourmand than a one star, my expectations were not really met in terms of service. With the wine menu, they were basically just reading off of the etiquette, and it seemed like two servers to the entire restaurant might have been leaving them a bit overwhelmed. All in all, it’s great value for money and you’ll have a great meal!

Google
Dinner at Hisop was simply outstanding, with incredible diversity in flavors and perfect wine pairings that are more than worth it. Thanks to Carmen, a sommelier whose expertise shone through - she made sure each dish was elevated by the perfect wine. A special thanks also to the other waiter for his clear explanations in English, making the experience even better for my family. When one of us had to leave suddenly after the second course for personal reasons, the team showed incredible empathy and didn’t even charge for their portion. That was so kind. An unforgettable evening—thank you, Carmen and the team!

Google
Minimalist in terms of design and aesthetic but maximalist in taste. Hisop was a nice dinner place where we got complex, layered flavours and generous wine refills. Fish plays an important role as do herbs. Shout out to our two waiters who really worked very hard on Saturday night to serve the whole restaurant!

Google
The second vist tasting menu again, every dish is amazing, especially the blue crab rice, sweetbread, hake, and quail absolutely delicious. If you are in Barcelona, it is worth trying it.

Google
We had a menu tasting. One vegetarian and the other eats all apart from sea food and pork. Starting with the service, two waitresses that seemed to be sick or with really no energy for their work. They poured twice what they served on our table. once it was the wine, second was the olive oil. We didn't feel we got any good attention. The food was so average. Nothing new, innovative, nor creative. Our main dish was cheese plate. We dont really feel this place deserves any star, unfortunately.

Yelp
An amazing meal. It was conveniently located just a 5 minute walk from my hotel. I opted for the wine pairing. If/when the option is available, I always opt in. The tasting was great. Most dishes are seafood based since it is Barcelona after all. The dishes were innovative and pleasing to the eyes. I loved the fish dishes. I also loved the citrusy dessert as it cleansed my palate for the last dish. The service was lovely. I feel like it's an advantage to do tasting menus solo cos you get more food, in my opinion. The rice dish was my favorite. I'd like to give a special shoutout to the oil they provide to the bread. Man, that was so good.

Yelp
What I like about Hisop is that they are very flexible with the menu. They allow individuals in a large table to choose whatever each wants; some could have a tasting menu, some could order a la carte, some could have a tasting menu with substitutions, etc. I chose the tasting menu among my group and enjoyed each course. The flavors were pretty unique. The plates were on the small side but I felt satisfied, though not full, at the end of the meal. My favorites were the fried squash blossom with pickled bonito, the aubergine and cuttlefish in Catalan green curry, the picanha and chanterelle mushrooms, and the watermelon and yogurt. 1 star off: Service was very cold. There were two women serving the dining room, and both had a snobbish demeanor. Every time we asked for more drinks, more water, more bread, etc., we felt like we were inconveniencing them. We never got most of the things we asked for, even after repeated requests. They would say, "I have not forgotten" but then off they go somewhere else. They clearly have forgotten or did not want to serve us. At the conclusion of our meal, as we are preparing to leave, they poured us more water. Thanks...

Yelp
The key word for Hisop is "hustle". An understaffed waitstaff (2 people for 10 tables) and a lean kitchen pumped out a high quality 9 course tasting menu for 7 people in a timely manner for 90 euros a head. If was paying 150-200 euros a head I would have had higher expectations for service but... I wasn't...so, I can overlook the flying forks and spinning plates and messy pours. I was thankful for great food and a staff with a strong work ethic.

Yelp
Very very minimalistic decors. White table, white plates, white walls. Small tables for small parties. Set meals will take 2 hours from start to finish. The dishes were really photographic and tasty. Price point wasn't too bad either.

Yelp
We loved our experience at Hisop. The tasting menu was well worth the price, and we enjoyed all of the dishes. The service was great and we really appreciated the in depth explanations of each dish, as well as the lengths they went to in order to accommodate my partner's gluten allergy.

Yelp
Food 10/10 The tasting menu was absolutely amazing and definitely worth the price, not to mention the wine pairing was such a great deal I was very impressed and content. Each dish of the menu came with a glass of wine, with only an additional 25 euros. That I simply cannot believe. We came here to celebrate my birthday, started the meal at 9pm, and ended it at midnight. Definitely the longest and latest dinner I've ever had, but every moment was worth it. The cheese board was very flavorful and adventurous, and the mains were outstanding in flavor-so many layers. The unlimited homemade sourdough bread also really kept on coming and made us extremely happy and full. So fresh and chewy, yet dense and moist. Two different types of olive oil were provided, both local and had great aromatics. They were way too generous with the bread though that I was feeling a little anxious that I couldn't finish the entire tasting menu haha. Atmosphere 10/10 A very clean and modern interior, minimalist yet elegant. A great 1 Michelin spot with quality cooking and interior decor. The tables were nicely spaced apart. Loved the design of the bathroom as well. Service 10/10 Extremely attentive service, I was really impressed because there were only two people tending to all of the guests, yet they were always on top of things.

Yelp
We were very impressed with how the servers explained every dish on the tasting menu as they brought it out to us. The food was wonderful and we learned a lot in the process

Yelp
Wanted to try this Michelin restaurant in Barcelona. Service is superb. I love that they don't require the entire table when ordering the tasting menu. My husband decided to order a La carte. First, tasting menu was mostly exceptional. Exceptions were the skate - too salty and fishy, and the beef - cut of beef was too tough. Other than that, every dish was creative, original, and magnificent. The desserts were out of this world.

Yelp
Food was really quite delicious! However the main server was absolutely terrible!! In case the owner reads these reviews...there were two female servers tonight 24/01/24. The younger one with the nose ring was delightful and helpful but the older/more senior server was angry, rude and aggressive. She dropped the cheese, banged the glasses, slammed the plates and made us feel generally unwelcome. I highly suggest you do something about her, it's a shame that all the hard work that you do in the kitchen is tainted by such horrible service. Thank you for the delicious food but we will not be back.

Yelp
If you're looking for an impressive Catalan cuisine experience that's universally accessible, curated by masters of their craft, Hisop deserves real consideration.

Yelp
I wanted to like Hisop more than I did. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was completely acceptable - but the overall meal felt devoid of some human touch and warmth. Our tasting menu included: - Sea Urchin w/ pumpkin and lemongrass - Grilled "Rovellons" w/ pork jowl and mushrooms - ** Mackerel with trumpets, sesame, and grapes - ** Artichoke with perol sausage & tumeric - Hake w/ mushrooms, buckwheat, and whisky - Deer w/ turnips, cocoa, salsify - Cheese course - Fig w/ lime and wasabi - ** Grilled cream with persimmon and passion fruit The starred items were my favorite dishes, but across the board the food was all both beautiful and meticulously composed. I think my husband and I left completely satisfied and happy, but when comparing it to another high end tasting menu we had done in Paris, it felt very Good but not Great.

Yelp
I would give 5 stars for the food. I had tried three Michelin star restaurant in my Barcelona trip. Hisop is actually ranked number 1 base on the food. I had the tasting menu. Each dish is simple but elegant. The chef doesn't over spice the food. He gave the little kick in taste of all the ingredients in the dishes. It's my first time ate deer meat, but it was a pretty good experience. My favor of night was the Mackerel with trumpets, sesame and grapes. Why I only gave 3 stars? it's the service. You are paying for Michelin 1 star but got the service no any better than McDonald's. I asked for wine pairing and our waitress simply tell me "no, it's not an option" !! But it was listed on the tasting menu. I guess she doesn't under stand English that well. I gave 1 star for the service.

Yelp
First dinner. Located in an alleyway. Small intimate restaurant with three servers. We opted for their tasting menu. It was very fun and the food was exciting. You will be very full. We had a good time and it was a great experience. The food was delicious and it was also creative too. It was also a good variety so there will definitely be something you would love.

Yelp
Restaurant was a complete disappointment. Food was not prepared well. Table was constantly dirty. Wine on the list was not available. Sauces were all mayonnaise. Waitresses gave you "brown bread". Olive oil was not replenished. My serving came out w/ a hair on the plate. 5 minutes later I was brought the same order on a new plate, I'm surprised I didn't get up and leave right there and then. Food was simple and lacked creativity. Hard to believe it's a Michelin Star!

Yelp
My wife and I went to Hisop for a late lunch when we were in Barcelona this past Christmas. I made the reservation online, about a month in advance. The restaurant was small and simple yet elegant - white walls with wood accents, white table clothes with white napkins, and dim lighting. The service was friendly and professional. About what you'd expect from a Michelin star restaurant. We both ordered the nine course tasting menu with wine pairing. The first course was a fresh sardine with cocoa powder. Very interesting flavour combination and surprisingly tasty. The second course was unbelievable. The first five courses were all excellent and at this point, every course but one had included some sort of fish or seafood. The next course, the first and only with meat is when things started going downhill a little bit. When paired with all of the other ingredients on the plate I found the flavours and textures to be very balanced but on its own, the meat was salty and the edges were chewy. I liked it, however, my wife did not. The following course featured a variety of cheeses that were arranged from lightest to strongest. The cheeses were all very good quality but it didn't feel like a course you'd have on a tasting menu at a Michelin star restaurant, and the presentation left something to be desired. The eight course, the first dessert was excellent. The final course was supposed to be a dessert with some sort of apple crumble but ended up being another dish with ice cream that looked like it was just thrown together on the spot. It was disappointing and a bad way to end the meal. If the cheese course had better presentation and more importantly, if the final course wouldn't have been substituted, this might have been a five star review. The wine pairings were all phenomenal. If you are in Barcelona and looking for a reasonably priced tasting menu at a Michelin star restaurant, you should definitely try Hisop. Make sure to get the wine pairing. Four stars.

Yelp
First time doing an M Star lunch and it did not disappoint. A wide swath of tasting menu items that were quite reasonable. Service was nice (especially to me who can barely speak their language).

Yelp
For our last dinner at Barcelona, I decided to splurge a little and have The Tasting Menu at Hisop for 57 Euro. Hisop serves contemporary Catalan cuisine which I would not have able to experience in Toronto especially at this price point. The main concern though is my Yelp Friend always hungry. The question is would this "tasting" menu enough to make him happy? For the night we were served: - Sea Urchin with Vermounth - Bacon, Peas and Truffle - Vilanova Prawn with Artichokes - Pularda Rice with Truffle - Fish of the Day with Mantis Shrimp "Suquet" - Pigeon with Truffle Cannelloni and Vanilla - Cheese Selection - Dessert: Viennese Coffee/Grapefruit with Passion Fruit and Eucalyptus Yes, every single dish above and there was nothing that I need to share. No decision needed to be make... I even have a chance to taste all those local cheese. And I definitely glad that I love truffles! Presentation was top notch. Every dish were a different experience of taste and texture. A feast for all the senses! Why no a 5 star experience? Service was a little rush and mechanical. But highly recommended as a foodie experience when in Barcelona at an affordable price!

Yelp
My fiance and I had an overall great experience at Hisop. We opted for the tasting menu with the wine pairing, which I think was totally worth it. We tried about 4-6 different wines starting ranging from white to red. The food was amazing. We had about 8 items from the menu and they were all equally delicious. I would definitely recommend a visit to Hisop if you are in Barcelona!

Yelp
Inventive high end tasting menu. Really enjoyed the ice cream served in red pepper. Service is robotic. waitress couldn't wait to finish explaining each dish and we'd feel bad if we want to ask for clarification. She's gone when she barely finishes the description each time.

Yelp
There are few higher end restaurants in Barcelona that can contend with Hisop in terms of price-quality ratio. Their 65€ treating menu is hard to beat. Beautifully created market fresh food that stays close to Catalan roots but also blend Asian and French influences. We had apetitzers of razor clam and tiny Mediterranean squid that were delicious. Foie on smoky eggplant with truffle shaved at the table. Then a fish dish and sous de vide steak that with rossnyol ( mushrooms). Set outside of the Borne and away from the most touristy areas, the setting feels more discrete and relaxed. My top 5 restaurants in Barcelona right now.

Yelp
An amazing little restaurant We here for lunch Menu is non descriptive like i says COW but everything is amazing And we had the This white wine that is made by being kept under water - totally todie for The red shrimp The lamb neck The octopus The asparagus Alllll tooooo good
google avatar

Brad G.

Yelp
It would be hard to believe there's a tasting menu with a better value in Barcelona. By Michelin-starred standards, Hisop is very affordable (65€ before wine, not quite 100€ after), and more importantly, delicious. Having been to ABaC and Cinc Sentits within the last month - both excellent - this restaurant more than holds its own with Jordi Cruz's cuisine. The atmosphere is clean and quiet, the space is cozy but not crowded (granted, there weren't that many other covers with my friend and I last night), and the service is excellent. The cuisine and wine list are both deliciously Catalan-based - my favorite dish was the octopus, but I enjoyed the whole meal. And although we didn't speak to him, chef Oriol Ivern was in the restaurant during dinner. I would recommend Hisop to anyone who wants a world-class dining experience without paying 250-400€ per person.

Yelp
Our experience at Hisop was underwhelming. The service was awkward and inattentive. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing and there were times when the food came out and we would have to wait for the wine to be brought to us later. The wine pairings were also poor- they did not accompany the foods they were paired with. We had dinner there a few nights ago and I can't remember a single dish that I particularly enjoyed. The only thing that stood out to me was the olive oils that they use for their breads, which were very flavorful. The ambiance is very clean- it reminded us of an Apple store. Hisop is unfortunately not worth the price or experience when there are a plethora of delicious restaurants in Barcelona.
google avatar

Leah C.

Yelp
Minimalist style, you need to know where you are going to get there, it isn't one you easily stumble upon here. Great tasting menu for seafood lovers (like me). I'm not usually a white wine fan but the pairings were great. Leaves you full but not uncomfortable. Service was nice and timely.
google avatar

Yelp
I should begin by saying that I visited in 2008, way before they earned their michilin star, however the experience has lasted as this was my favorite restaurant in Spain, maybe of all time!
google avatar

Yelp
Sadly there wasn't a single dish from the tasting menu that I really liked. They were all just ok, trying to be different but the flavours didn't come together all that well. Tasting menu is €61. Also tried the beef Picanha, it was very chewy even though it was pretty rare and I expected the meat to be more tender. The space is very minimalist and rather blah. On a positive note, customer service was very good.

Yelp
We had a very nice meal at Hisop last week, the one splurge meal of our trip to Barcelona and Valencia. It didn't have quite the vibe I was looking for, was hoping for something a little more bustling, but the meal was great. We split an excellent app of grilled squid and blood sausage and entrees of lamb and veal were very tasty. They also brought a couple amuse, one was a whitefish and can't remember the other but both were good as was the bread. The chocolate and beer and bread ice cream with foam and whatever else was good too. Service was very polished but friendly and my one knock would be that some of the decor looks a little Ikea-like, with light colored wood that looks kind of cheap. And my friend would complain about still being hungry, said he could have gone for a doner after our meal but I was pleasantly full. With two beers, a port and a white wine it was about 104 euro. Good choice.

Yelp
Worth every penny! I went with some friends for my birthday and was very pleased. As I don't eat pork or beef, I often have trouble with tasting menus, but they were very accommodating and willing to substitute items where I couldn't eat something. They also offered to sub out the oyster in one of the dishes for another item for those that aren't partial to oysters, which I found very nice. The service was great, the food was excellent. Deserves its Michelin star!

James S.

Yelp
A truly memorable experience! Hisop delivered on all fronts - atmosphere (intimate), service (impeccable) and, of course, the FOOD (to die for)! Knowing that it was my fiancee's birthday, the restaurant went above and beyond, bringing out a pair of amuse bouche's as well as a small dessert to help us celebrate. Even beyond that, my fiancee is gluten intolerant, so they actually got us some gluten-free bread for her to munch on! The menu changes seasonally, so the restaurant is constantly evolving and experimenting. Both the food and the wine tries to adhere to traditional, local cuisine and modernize it with a few special touches. The one thing I regret is that we did not try the tasting menu - a couple next to us decided to get it and we felt like we were salivating every time a new dish came out for them! Guess we'll just have to come back again and try it!

Morgan C.

Yelp
This place was amazing from start to finish. I came here with my boyfriend on the recommendation of a chef, who said it is one of the few places in Barcelona that has a Michelin star but is also a great value. We had already been to Moments and several other Michelin star places on the trip (we spoiled ourselves on this trip), so were reluctant for another splurge, but Hisop was SO DELICIOUS. The Hake over a liquid salad with burrata and tomato was maybe the best thing we've ever tasted. The ambience was great, wine pairings were wonderful, and service was excellent. I can't recommend it enough.
google avatar

Boyuan W.

Yelp
Just fantastic. After trying all of the high class restaurant in Beijing, this one in Barcelona really astonished me. The greatness of the restaurant is that the chef captures the true essence of the ingredients and makes it natural and simple. I really love it

Yelp
Delicious! Their set menu was only 59 euros but we didn't go for that as we weren't that hungry. I got the duck with cut shark and it was delicious. The duck was cooked perfectly. We also had amuse bouche which was black pudding tatin with celery and it was amazing. For dessert we had the peach Melba which was ok. If u like cooked peaches with shaved iced and sorbet, then it's is for you. We also had a pallet cleanser which was wasabi, lemon and apple. Very interesting.

Yelp
One Micheline star awarded restaurant, it's one of the best choices in Barcelona. The taste menu at 48 euros (beverages not included) is extremely good for such that price

James C.

Yelp
not disappointed , not surprised . everything is OK. €61 for a tasting menu is good value . I like the pork with sea slug. the cuttfish and the monk fish is pretty good too, overall I am ok with this place and might even going back.
