A Cross-Country Car Excursion

"From the outside, this building looks like an utterly common industrial warehouse. You’d expect it to be stuffed with mundane car parts—that is, if it weren’t for a sign announcing its historic auto attractions. Step inside the unassuming warehouse, and you’ll immediately realize how deceptive its size is. It’s packed with a trove of Americana treasures that goes far beyond classic cars. Wandering around is like going on a whirlwind tour of the past. Of course, there are historic cars throughout the place, including Joseph Stalin’s limousine and a few Third Reich vehicles (accompanied by a disclaimer against the represented ideology). But there’s so much more to discover as well. The museum is full of rare, unusual items once owned by various historical figures. Its artifacts range from the hats worn by Bonnie and Clyde the day they were shot to John F. Kennedy’s golf balls. Historical outfits are displayed on wax figures ranging from Marilyn Monroe to Fidel Castro that resemble the famous figures just enough to make them unsettling. The mix of memorabilia and artifacts from classic pop cultural icons (think film, TV, politics, world leaders, and more) is presented in an atmospheric mix of eerie lighting. Music associated with the iconic figures and themes displayed plays from the speakers. The visual tone of the artificial lighting makes all the artifacts look quasi-animated. The total lack of natural lighting and contact with the outside world contributes to the ghostly experience you’ll encounter while exploring the building." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

This museum is so much more than just cars, but the cars they do have are fascinating. You could spend over 4-5 hours in this place in awe. We went for a family gathering with a group of 15 and all of us had a blast and found something interesting. Tony the tour guide was great and full of knowledge! He even keeps in touch with JKFs secret service that is still alive!

When they say it's the "most unique" museum, they mean it. My first thought hearing the name was "Ugh, cars" because I am pretty dang far from a car enthusiast. But the more I looked into it, the more I realized that their collection encompassed a WIDE variety of historical and pop culture memorabilia. There's something for everyone of all ages. The 9/11 exhibit will move you emotionally, the serial killer artifacts will fascinate you, and the movie cars will give you a deep sense of nostalgia. My mom and I visited in the summer of 2023, and we are planning a second visit in a few days so my grandfather can experience it too!

This place is amazing! There is so much to see here! We wish we would of had more time to stay and hang around and learn more, but we did come a little bit late. You definitely need a good 3-4 hours here. Especially if u want to learn more. They have Tony who will help and guide u & go into depth about every historical event. Tony’s knowledge will leave u amazed. Tony mentioned there is so many hidden stories behind each artifact. We definitely need to come back and explore more, there was just so much here that everyone needs to come and see. Loved this place and the front clerk Melissa was so sweet and nice she made us feel welcomed. Highly recommend this place! My favorite was seeing the Bonnie & Clyde’s car along with their hats & revolver. Such a cool experience.

What a great experience! Was expecting a building of cars but found it’s so much more. We arrived as it opened and luckily Tony, the historian, was there and gave a brief overview on the historic importance of the first few exhibits… was blown away in the first few minutes with what we saw. My son said it best “it’s like being on an amazing field-trip.”

One of the best kept secrets of Roscoe-Rockford area!!! I highly recommend it to anyone. Be prepared for at least 1.5 hour self-tour. Or ask for Tony the chief historian to give you a tour( it will be much longer but he has amazing info on each artifact in the museum). Cool place, unique displays. Very clean and very well organized. They have a large gift shop. Very friendly and helpful staff. Large parking free of charge! Clean restrooms. Vending machines along the way. Really , it is a must place to visit!

Definitely one of the best museums I’ve been to hands down. This place is HUGE so definitely get there earlier. Tony is an amazing historian who was of much help especially when I had questions about certain exhibits. For 28 dollars per person I’d say it was well worth it! There’s items and cars in this museum that you won’t see elsewhere.
