The Best Restaurants Near Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Black Hills | Eater

"A vintage Deadwood hotel named for the town’s first sheriff that evokes Wild West lore (and rumored hauntings), offering on-site gaming, a cellar bar, a fireside restaurant and close access to attractions like an old cemetery and Saloon No. 10 where famous frontier events occurred; room rates start around $119/night." - Matt Kirouac

This is a nice old historic hotel. It's not new, and it's not perfect. But it has a lot of history, and my wife and I stay there quite often when we're in Deadwood. We plan on going back, but if you need to stay in a high-end place, spend a little more money and go elsewhere. Location's great staff is great. Breakfast is good. Big pancakes, french toast and hash browns are good and it's inexpensive.

We had the small twin type bedroom. Comfortable and quiet. Economical if in todays times anything is truly worth the price. Staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was free although it was in the parking garage across the street that the elevator to go down wasnt responding to the button. You could go up but to go down we had to walk down a level push that button. Casino of one arm bandits was nice. We bet a dollar and walked away with $70. Free drinks even on the penny slots. Restaurant and bar were good. The fact its centrally located for those of us who just want to walk the shops or see a silly gunfight reenactment makes it great.

I had just attended a really fun event in Sturgis South Dakota and I stopped here at the Bullock for some breakfast. The atmosphere was awesome and the pancake which I ordered was humongous and so so good! My waiter was fantastic very friendly and just a pleasure. |There is no question that I will stop here for now on for breakfast when I’m in the area it was that good !!

Two years in a row, I have had the opportunity to stay in The Historic Bullock Hotel.|First, the employees are awesome! Matt at the hotel front desk is excellent at his job! He will do everything in his power to make your stay the best it can be...and he's happy to do it with a smile. |Second, I fully enjoyed the breakfast I had there.|Third, the Bullock room and Roosevelt room are absurdly awesome!|The Historic Bullock Hotel is definitely a can't miss when visiting Deadwood South Dakota.

This is an extremely beautiful historic hotel; however, some attention to detail and cleanliness is desperately needed. Check in was smooth and pleasant; however, they were not able to hold our luggage between room changes so we had to drag everything back to our vehicle between check out and back in same day (this was necessary due to our schedule and adding a day to our reservation). Free parking provided across the street. Disappointed/not disappointed that we did not experience any paranormal activity.

I love old historic places like this! We really enjoyed our stay. It was very clean. I didn't give it 5 stars because there were some things that we felt could be improved upon. I love the historic feel of the furnishing in the room but it's definitely time for some updates and new mattresses. Also, the restaurant has limited hours and a limited menu. The staff was very friendly and check in was quick. There are stories of the hotel being haunted but unfortunately we didn't get to experience anything.

Google
My wife and I booked our overnight stay based on the historic nature of the property. The check in lady was nice and upgraded us to the Roosevelt suite. Nothing else nice to say. The mattress was hard as a rock. The pillows somehow managed to be lumpy and exceptionally hard. My wife considered sleeping in our car. The window coverings were broken and couldn’t be opened. The spot lights on the building on the awing pointed directly at our windows. If slot machines are your thing, maybe this is your jam. Unfortunately, it doesn’t add to the historic nature of the property. The location appeared to be a strong point. It was easy to walk to dinner. There was a show in the street right outside. But sleeping was a different story, we could hear every drunk in the streets all hours of the night. And the motorcycles that blasted music while cruising the main drag never stopped (2, 3 ,4, or 5 am). The best part of the stay was leaving.

Historic hotel, but a bit worn. Room was a good size, but not cleaned well. Parking set up for registration is poor and no instructions prior.

Yelp
We stayed one night. We took the ghost tour..wasn't too scary but informational. I did have a photo that shows a black entity in mirror. we didn't get back to our room until late, so I kept TV and a fan on all night so wouldn't hear any noise. It worked!

Marilynn V.

Yelp
The location cannot be beat. It's right in the heart of everything. It's old, dusty, and dirty. Drinks are complimentary if you are gambling. We asked the bartender about the Tatonka Story of the Bison museum and he said he thought it was closed. It is not closed and is a must-see if you are in Deadwood. It has the 3rd largest sculpture in the world of the Buffalo Jump. Don't miss it.
google avatar

Yelp
Lets move this up a notch shall we? First and foremost, great service for beer when you gamble. 5 stars there! I am finding the slots to be a bit more playable, post tourist season, and especially during the mid week. Will continue to test my theories!

Yelp
It's old it's not super clean and the carpets is worn but to me it just adds to the allure of a place built in the 1800s. Water was hot , linens were clean, parking was easy.... Not super helpful staff but we enjoyed our stay. You don't go to Deadwood to sleep on sit in your room. It's also super cheap so nothing to complain about I would have given it more but the restaurant was closed.......

Yelp
We stayed in Room 306 10/2/2023 - 10/5/2023; $132.71 per night. Such an amazing property! The room amenities were excellent, especially considering the age of the hotel - hot strong water and tub drains perfectly. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the room was clean and beautiful. The staff makes you feel like family - probably because there are many families who work there. We seriously didn't want to leave. No fridge or microwave, just coffee. Grade A.

Yelp
We headed to SD for a fun time away and this hotel was one of the highlights of the trip. It was easy to find and has a parking lot very very close by for guests, which is wonderful because there just NO parking in Deadwood. The hotel is gorgeous, casino and all, and you can feel the history. What I loved is that I could not smell the history or feel like it was run down. The hotel was charming, comfortable and in amazing condition for being as old as it is. I loved my room. The restaurant downstairs kept confusing hours, but Deadwood has plenty of options for you if they aren't open. I also won $500 in the casino one afternoon, lucky me!

Angela L.

Yelp
Ed is such a wonderful bartender! Every time we come to town we love to go visit him. We also love that the owner keeps up with the hotels history. We love the rooms.

Jim S.

Yelp
Great Authentic place to stay in the center of Deadwood. Ed the doorman, bartender and con·cierge is a awesome.

Richard D.

Yelp
We stayed two nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. If you are expecting a modern hotel, you'll be disappointed. If you go for the experience of staying in a historic hotel you'll be pleased. The people were nice and the location was perfect. If you get the chance watch the recreation of Wild Bill being shot at the #10 bar. We just happened to be there when it started and thought it was great.

Yelp
The hotel manager and her husband were super friendly! The hotel was very cool and definitely had that historic feel to it. It was comfortable and clean. They had a breakfast joint within the facility, too that was pretty good. Service was good and felt satisfied with the stay and people! Fun hotel!

H. Y.

Yelp
Upon arrival, the front desk clerk was nice and willing to show us the room before check-in. Now that's what I call service. She had a smile the entire time, was sweet, and didn't seem bothered by the request. Great stay in the room, breakfast was awesome. Get the Classic breakfast. Yummy! Overall, great visit there. Keep it up Bullock.

Yelp
Great place to stay if you want authenticity, to start the elevator was great, room was small but that is how it was back then, we totally felt we we went back in time, and the ghost tour awesome we definitely saw orbs. We will sure stay here again

Yelp
There are a couple of reasons why I chose to stay at this particular hotel. One reason is that I wanted to stay in a hotel that wasn't part of a chain....something with character. The fact that this hotel is billed as being haunted is the other reason. This hotel has definitely got character. The room we had was pretty and had touches of "old". It was clean and had a great view of the street. The room connected with the room that was said to have been Seth's room, but he didn't appear to be in attendance while we were there. Having said that though I DID hear something that was un-explainable and I felt something too. Shortly after I turned off the light to go to sleep I heard what sounded like pebbles hitting glass (we were up on the 3rd floor) and it could also be described as the sound that an old tube TV makes when cooling off. The room was not furnished with that kind of TV. I was also woken up twice during the night by what felt like the bed heating up under my hip. It was a real weird sensation and it's never happened to me elsewhere. I don't know if anyone else would think that those events were "ghostly" but I can say that they were un-explainable. This hotel is in a great location. Parking is behind the hotel and across the street but we found it to work well. If you want something with character this will work for you. If you want something new and updated you might want to pass on this one and stay down the road.

Yelp
I did not care for this place at all. Stayed on 5/22/21 Staff was rude. They do not make you feel welcome at All. Room was dirty and dusty. Not worth 220.00 a night. Bathroom was the only thing clean which was nice. Paid $20.00 for the Haunted tour which I could not hear the tour guide half the time. The tour starts in the basement with speakers of music blaring. A lady asked her if she could turn the music down and she said No! She was very rude and I didn't hear most of what she was saying let alone her fast talking and looking at her watch because she had somewhere else to be when she was done.

Yelp
My wife and I go up at least twice a year and stay in the Roosevelt Suite. Very friendly accommodating staff and clean comfortable room. Centrally located on Main Street. Bully's is great for breakfast.

Yelp
Was lucky to book a room for the night during the busy summer months and especially during rally time. Room was priced right not over inflated during the rally time and the room was nice. The hotel is known for not only being historic but also is known as a haunted hotel (no encounters during our stay) Location is perfect right around the middle of the main drag and close to tons of shopping and food choices. Parking was ample in the parking structure right across the street for only $10 a day. Next time I stay at the Bullock I'll be sure to hold a seance for the spirits in hopes of having some in room fun, Aloha

Yelp
I stayed at the Bullock with a group of 20. We decided to stay here as opposed to a chain because we wanted to experience something different. We also wanted to stay in haunted hotel. Every room is a little different. The floors slope and the floors snap and pop when you walk over them. The beds are not the most comfortable and my room the bed was hard and came with two extra small pillows. I had to request a couple more after the first night. The ambience transports you back to the late 1800's for sure. The rooms are quaint. I did have a television but it didn't work. The bathroom was very small and the door barely cleared the toilet when opened. The hotel features a basement bar but it wasn't opened. We did have a meeting in the basement for the work event and you do get a feeling of being watched or followed and it was very cold. There is another bar on the first floor but we didn't see anyone there while we stayed. There are several photo albums by the front desk that show patrons ghostly encounters along with hand written letters explaining they had sheets pulled off at night or saw ghostly shadows and fog like creatures. I'm disappointed to say the only thing I experienced was at night my room was ultra hot and I did hear random noises. At one point the do not disturb sign on the door began rocking its self and there was some odd like scratching noises but nothing very scary. The rating for the hotel is because it's older, the rooms are small and there isn't any features outside the history of be Bullock which was pretty cool. The price was very reasonable but suspect the rates go up during tourists season. The first floor feature a lot of slot machines but there isn't any poker tables at the Bullock.

Yelp
Lots of fun to check out. Bully's was great for breakfast, delicious and good selection. Plus, great mimosas and bloody marys. Came back in the evening for the ghost tour. Fun place, would stay in the hotel next time we have a chance

David N.

Yelp
I paid $40 for a room so my expectations weren't very high- but at that price, as long as there was a bed and a shower and a lock on the door, I wasn't going to complain. But I quickly realized that even if I had had high expectations they'd have been exceeded! This place is awesome. Very clean, comfy beds, friendly staff, and above average charm/cool factor, both in the lobby/bar and in the rooms themselves. I felt like I was in the movie tombstone. Looks like someone gave them 1 star because he lost his money on the slot machines. Hey pal that's gambling... How about you quit being a Karen and leaving poor reviews out of spite? If I'm ever driving within an hour of this place again I'm coming back! 10/10!

Yelp
We asked for a haunted room and we definitely weren't disappointed! Our first night was quiet. However the second night as we were laying in bed with no lights on and the tv off, we started hearing something rummaging our luggage and things in the bathroom. The scariest part was the huge black mass that kept walking back and forth from our door and bed. But it was suck a cool experience and I'm definitely a believer now! Our room was 308 on the 3rd floor'

Yelp
My friend and I stayed at the Bullock from 07/18/22-07/25/22. The Hotel is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is the housekeeping. It was pretty much non-existent. If you needed towels or anything refilled you had to ask for it. The room was only cleaned (bed made) one day during our stay. Aside from that a big shout out to Shannon, Greta, and Vicky for all their help. They took the time to go over maps with us to get us where we wanted to go. They also made awesome suggestions for things for us to see and do. They are the epitome of great customer service. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Sadly, we did not see Seth Bullocks ghost. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone. It is right in the middle of Main Street so you can see everything going on. Deadwood is one of my favorite vacations. Cannot really critique the restaurant, it was not open on Monday and Tuesday so we only had Breakfast there one morning. It was good.

Yelp
Best in Deadwood for bang for buck. Nothing wrong with this place at all. Its historic, and smack in the center of the historic district. 0 complaints, will be back again.

Yelp
The number 310 will forever be etched in my brain after the night of June 5, 2012. After a long drive through the craggy badlands of Western America, I arrived in Deadwood, South Dakota. Upon signing my name to the ledger I wandered the streets in search of nourishment. Luckily numerous establishments hawked their meals and I was able to find a spot for a peaty scotch and a bloody rare steak before turning in for the evening. Once sated I turned back to my domicile. There I shaved and donned my night garments. Nothing of interest was showing on the electric television. What a great invention from my compatriot, Philo T. Farnsworth. Unfortunately it failed me on this eve. Instead of watching a rousing game of baseball I lit my candle and settled in for an evening of reading my latest dime novel. It wasn't long after that I began to nod off. Morpheus, that wicked maester of dreams, had me in his cold, dark clutches and he had no thoughts of a simple release. A head filled with grog, I leaned to puff out my light but realized the wax was no longer burning. I did not think of leaving the window ajar yet there it was. Open, and a gusting. A wisp of smoke still dangling at an odd upwards angle from the smoldering yellow candle. A most obvious source of my current dark state. Yet... There was no chill in my room. That was to come later. I clutched my bedding to my chest, afraid that an intruder lurked in my domicile. Before I even began scamming the room he appeared at the foot of my bed. Thick handlebar mustached and wearing a 5 gallon hat, there he sat. A silver star pinned upon his chest. He stared into my eyes and even deeper into my soul. "Welcome to Deadwood," he intoned. Before I could respond my candle miraculously flamed again and the man was gone. My eyelids never closed again that night. The next morning I groggily wandered down to the front desk and tried to explain my story. "Well sir, that was Sheriff Seth Bullock and he's been dead for near a hundred years"....

Yelp
Old hotel with significant historic value to the town of Deadwood. We booked our stay online at a very good rate. Our room was warm at 75 degrees when we arrived and turning down the thermostat did not help. I talked to the front desk on what to do to cool the room. To rectify the situation, they gave me a fan to pull in outside air. The outside window only opened about two inches. As someone in another casino fell out of the window, the safety concern created a town safety law. So, our two inches and a fan did the trick. Our room on the second floor also had a smell of smoke. For a smoke free room, the smoke from the casino below lingered in a bit. It was not too bad, but noticeable. Being an older building, I understood these situations. In the winter buildings tend to run hotter, while summer conditions are cooler. I just like my room cold. With the fan and the window open the temp did come down to 65. The casino downstairs only has slot machines. As I am not a fan of slot machines, we did play at other casinos with table games. The Bullock Hotel does have ghost tours every night at 8:00pm. We were not aware of the one time slot, so we did miss it. We did want to go and wished we would have known about it earlier. We did have a nice stay and were glad we did stay at the Bullock Hotel.

Yelp
There are still some refreshingly old west elements to this historic hotel. It's in a great location, right on main street, in about the center so you can easily walk anywhere in town. The rooms are nice, and the bed is comfortable. The comforter is warm. However, you probably don't want to stay here in the winter. Being a tourist town, they lay off most of their staff and the hotel is run by 1 person. 1 person to run the front desk, gaming floor, and bar. The "bar" doubles as the "restaurant" and though there is a griddle, deep fryer and prep line behind the bar, management wisely decided that cooking on top of all the other duties was just too much for one person. All that aside, the Bullock doesn't have heat. Not really. There was a thermostat in my room which I set at 90, but it didn't make a difference. It was in the 50s in my room. I was later informed that they didn't have the boiler turned up. I'm not sure why, everyone seemed to know temperatures were going to be below zero with a high of 4 degrees, but no one had the foresight to turn the boiler up, in late December, over Christmas. This wasn't an early cold night in September or October, it was December. I had to use towels to cover the gap at the bottom of my door to stop the colder hallway draft from coming in. The tile bathroom floor? Brrr. Thankfully the down comforter was really warm. I still had to sleep in my clothes with my flannel shirt and wool socks on though. Bottom line, probably great in the summer, but see, old west elements still preserved. :)

Yelp
My family came breakfast week ago off the street and had the best dining experience that we not have had in Deadwood in years! Service was so good and she handled it even as busy it was and that Chef back there cooking all that by himself and the food that he put out FAST and was surprised how GOOD it was!!!! If Deadwood had Chefs and Waitresses like these 2 little jelly beans Every restaurant would be in excellence !! We will not only be coming back but telling all our friends family and employees! DON'T LOSE THEM 2 Sincerely Smith Family

Yelp
We had a great time at the Historic Bullock Hotel. We got great service and recommendations from Daniel!!

Yelp
Took a day trip to deadwood and stayed overnight in the Bullock. Greta, The front desk lady was absolutely amazing, accommodated us in every way possible. I couldnt say enough good things about her. The history behind this hotel is something to read up on! Lots of paranormal activity goes on and we were provided with pictures some guests have taken over the years and its chilling! I myself had experienced foot steps in the middle of the night, Knocking on the walls, and faint female voices. Mind you this is a thursday night, we had the entire hotel to ourselves besides maybe a few other guests, But our floor was empty and never saw another guest the whole time. Definitely check this place out if you're ever in town!!
google avatar

Kellen H.

Yelp
It's definitely worth staying here to get sucked into the last of Deadwood. A little steep on the price and the WiFi is horrible but it's a must in Deadwood.
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
Nice rooms. Nice location. Doesn't really offer much else but the real disappointment is the management. Had to check out a day early. There was someone waiting at the front desk to take my room. Even though they rented it out immediately they refused to refund my entire night's charge. She gave me a small portion of what I'd payed originally. I called five times and left two messages for the manager, Lori, and never heard a word back. Finally on the sixth call I got a hold of her and her and she game me a bunch of BS about not cancelling within 24 hrs. I wish I had sold my room directly to the people standing there for cash at a discount. I'll never go here again and you shouldn't either.

Yelp
I have stayed in a lot of hotels. Some bad, some good. Never have I ever wrote bad about a hotel but this is the worst hotel ever!!!! Beds are hard, pillows don't hold up your head but I would have never said anything about that. We check in at 4 pm and the front desk person is not real nice, but ok. We go up to our room and it's hot so we turn down the air and put the fan on high. NO WHERE IS IT NOTED NOT TO DO THAT, that the unit might freeze. So we leave to walk around the cute town and get dinner. We get back to our room at 9pm. Hotter then h$&l. I call the front desk and she states that she is the only one hear and there is NOTHING she can do fir us that we froze the unit and she will leave a note for the maintenance guy in the morning!!!!! WHAT???? When we check out???? I ask can't you call a manager or something? She states no that it was our fault and there was nothing she could do for us! Have you ever???? Worst Hotel Ever!!! Absolutely no customer service. You can check my past, never have I ever written something negative about a place until now! So disappointed!

Yelp
This place is alive with the past!... the minute you walk into this hotel you get the feeling that there's a parallel reality happening all around you with gunslingers, gamblers, prospectors and other souls from a bygone era going about their daily business while you're here in the 21st century. The staff are very friendly and this historic hotel is well maintained --; and if you come towards the end of the week, John the cook will whip you up a delicious breakfast!
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Not our 1st time to Deadwood, but is 1st time to Bullock Hotel's Bullys Restaurant. Ruby our waitress was very efficient and full of Deadwood history including a few ghost tales from the restaurant. Wife had the French Toast sandwich and gave it a score of 27 out of 10 possible (that's really really good for any math or contest challenged folks. I had the all-in everything included omelet which was in the same score range as the wifes.

Yelp
I genuinely like the Bullock. I've only ever stayed here when in town. I'll admit part of my fondness for the place stems from my fascination with Seth himself, but that aside there's plenty to like about the hotel. I also feel like the inside is a lot nicer than the outside would lead one to believe. What I like: it's smack in the middle of things in Deadwood. Step outside and you're on Main Street in the middle of just about everything there is to do in town. I like that it is clean and well maintained (though the rooms could use a regular dusting.) The rooms are big and I enjoy the historic look and feel of the place. Parking it pretty close. The casino is quiet. What I don't like: it smells a little old -- not like historic old but more like grandma's closet old. Also the food is about on par with Deadwood's standards, and if you've been to Deadwood you know the bar is pretty low in terms of dining. I still haven't seen Seth's ghost, but I keep hoping.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the Bullock Hotel the room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. The staff Greta and Lisa are two fantastic people that are there for any need you may have. They give great advice on where to eat or what to do for fun. The Bullock Hotel is perfectly situated to have a nice ride to go see Mt. Rushmore and Crazy horse. It was some of the most beautiful riding that we have done. The Bullock Hotel offers breakfast in their restaurant "Bully's" the food is excellent for a fair price. They also have their own bar which is staffed with whoever is working the front desk. Have patience because Greta and Lisa are wearing multiple hats, we just reminded ourselves that we were on vacation and not in a hurry. They also have a ghost tour of the hotel and it starts at 5:30pm and costs $10.00 a person. It is a fun and very informative tour that takes you down into the basement and through the back halls of the hotel. They have their own slot machines that you can play if you don't want to venture out into the warm air. They have their own part of the parking lot across the street to park in for free just make sure you are on there side of the parking lot. Greta or Lisa will be happy to point out where it is. I have to say this was one of the best vacations we have had and will definitely be back to the Bullock Hotel so we can go explore everything else we could not fit in on this trip.

Yelp
The food here was the standard diner type fare (we had breakfast); what I'm really rating is the great customer service. Everyone was very attentive and gracious, and it is a fun historic location. Might as well check it out if you're in Deadwood!

Yelp
This was our first trip to Deadwood and were excited to stay at the Bullock. Its a beautiful hotel but they are definitely squeezing the buffalo, as my grandfather used to say. There was usually only 1-2 staff persons on duty and they were trying doing everything- checking people in, bartending, helping customers and cash out gamblers. The room was nice but there were only 2 pillows, light bulbs were out and the air conditioning was a little iffy. Its obvious that their concern is gambling, the first floor is basically all gambling machines except for the dining room which is only open for breakfast .

Mark S.

Yelp
Not the first time staying at the Bullock but will be my last time. In past stays the staff was friendly but not this time, staff made us feel very unwelcome. I was barked at for my granddaughter being on the gaming floor - one time walking through to the elevator and another time for being near the front desk, which is not on the gaming floor. Was told she was not allowed to be anywhere on the first floor. Argued with one member of staff about her being by the front desk and she refused to give me her name so I could speak to her manager ( who I was told I couldn't even talk to for 2 days as there seems to be no one in charge on the weekends) Only other employee there also refused to give me her name. Next morning we went to Bully's for breakfast but decided against it after hearing the same employee, who was now waiting tables, tell the cook "That's the guest I was telling you about" Well I'm not about to trust either of them making/serving my food. On the day we finally checked out I was going to speak with the manager but she was to preoccupied with talking on her cell phone. I don't know what has happened there but in the past the staff has always made you feel welcome, even getting to know our names and having long conversations about family and life, now they make you feel like it was a burden to have you there.

Yelp
We were two couples on a two week road trip. On our way to Mt. Rushmore, we decided to stay in Deadwood, SD at the Bullock Hotel. This was a good choice. The hotel is easy to find, however the free parking is a little harder. The Bullock parking is behind the hotel across Canam Highway. There is a nice pedestrian crossing there. The hotel staff were friendly and professional. The hotel is clean. They did a good job in the remodeling to keep the style but have the rooms comfortable. Our room was a corner room on the second floor so it was a little larger than our traveling partners room. The casino on the main floor was nice. Be sure to catch the street shows. One of the music shows was held in the Bullock Restaurant Bully's. Bully's is only open for Breakfast & Lunch.

Yelp
We stay at the Bullock every year and always enjoy going to Bully's for breakfast...John, the Chef, is great and the food is always good! Pancakes are HUGE, so 1 will be enough for the table...biscuits, bacon, eggs are also great! The new waitress, Haley (sp?), was great too!:-)

Yelp
If you like history you can't beat this hotel. I always aim to stay in historic buildings when I can. An extra bonus for the ghost seekers, the hotel is reportedly haunted. Although, I did not have any experiences of the supernatural kind just being in such a historic location was cool enough. The family and I stayed in room 311. The room was clean, the furnishings were nice and the bathroom was surprisingly large. The temperature is the room was cool and slightly on the humid side, but it was pretty hot outside. However, if you are going to sit in your room all day you probably should have stayed home. No refrigerator or microwave in the room. Ice machine is on the 1st floor. I also have to recommend a local beer Crow Peak Cream Ale - try it, like it, then go pick some up to take back with you, home or hotel your choice. Stay here.

Yelp
We were excited to come to Deadwood and see the history in this town. We had breakfast the second day at the Bullock Hotel at Bully's. Wait staff is friendly and the atmosphere was awesome.

Yelp
One of the best things about the hotel is its central location in the downtown area. It was a short walk to the bars, restaurants and other casinos, but I probably would not stay here again if in the area. One of the reasons I booked our stay here was the ghost tour. When we called earlier in the day to confirm our reservation and ask about the tour time, we were told it was canceled because of a private event in a banquet room. I'm not sure how one room being occupied cancels a tour of the entire hotel, but it did. If you're going to advertise an attraction like this for your guests, you could at least inform them in advance of it being canceled. Another issue was the parking. Not seeing it allowed on the streets around there, nor a marked lot, we just parked in the downtown garage. Upon check-in, we were given some tag for free parking in an unmarked lot some place else in town....More useful information that would have been nice to hear before we got there. Because I didn't feel like walking back and moving my car, I paid the $5 for the garage fee. One nice feature was the dining room/bar area, but it was just another item on the list of things canceled for the night. By some miracle it was open for breakfast; where we saw it's vintage decor and fireplace. The food and service were excellent. Even though our room had creepy a window that looked out to the vending machine, it was spacious and nice. However, it was my understanding was the Bullock hotel could get away with charging more than the Holiday Inn down the street because it had original aspects to offer, like the ghost tour and vintage dining room, but without them you might as well save yourself the money and stay at the chain hotel.

Yelp
A fun place to stay in Deadwood. Rooms are very clean and large. They manage to give feeling of old west while being very modern. It is definately worth the few extra $ to stay here.

Yelp
I stayed at the Bullock Hotel around October of 2014, but I never left a review. I'm doing it now because my stay was memorable. The hotel stay was clean and pleasant, perhaps a bit on the simple side (but that's why I was there!) The gaming downstairs I didn't take much advantage of, but it was fun. For breakfast though, they serve a mean Bloody Mary at Bully's. Seriously, it's the best Bloody Mary I've ever had. If you need to sleep, play some games, and then drink off that hangover with an amazing Bloody Mary... The Bullock is a godsend. I'd stay there again the next time I'm through the Black Hills.

Yelp
Beautiful historic hotel, located in the perfect spot on Main Street, friendly staff - especially the waiter/cook in their restaurant, Bully's ( great food, by the way). The room was quiet, gorgeous and clean. I will never stay anywhere else but the Bullock Hotel.

Yelp
On a road trip, my boyfriend wanted to stop in Deadwood, so we decided to stay at the Bullock Hotel. We were a bit disappointed with the town, but not with the hotel. The hotel was exactly what we expected. It is an older building with character. As someone else mentioned parking was a little tricky. We started to park in a garage, but decided to call the hotel and ask about parking first. They explained that the lot was across the street and they would give us a pass to park there. We ate breakfast at Bully's in the hotel. The waitress and chef were both very friendly and created a very fun and welcoming atmosphere. The only problem we had were that other guests were very loud in the middle of the night. That is something that could happen at any hotel though.

Yelp
A great historic hotel created by the first sheriff of Deadwood, Seth Bullock. Its atmosphere does not disappoint either.
