On the Grid : Historic Hofheimer Building

"Boasting one of the best rooftop views in town, this recently renovated historic property is the new crown jewel of Scott’s Addition. Built in 1928, the event space is available to rent out for private occasions, like corporate gatherings, weddings, and photo shoots, and the doors to this 14,400-square-foot space also open to the public for Sunsets@Hof, an after-work party held once a week during the month of August." - The Frontier Project

My group of friends celebrated the 4th of July at the Hof! This will be our yearly tradition. We loved how organized the building was, with tiers of tickets and packages. This limited the crowds and gave for a more intimate experience! We decided to book a large group space where our group was seated in the couch area, where we had an attentive server and were able to get food and drinks! The view from the roof was perfect for the fireworks and the dj played music throughout the night. We love all the staff at the Hof (from the managers to the bartenders and security) and how inclusive the environment is. It brings a diverse crowd and I never feel worried to come have a drink or meal by myself! Our friend group had a blast!!!!

My co-worker’s and my retirement party was held in The Library and I can’t say enough good things about the service, food and venue. The staff members were very attentive to any needs and the appetizers were all delicious! Would definitely recommend for any celebrations you may have.

This was my first time at  Hof's Rooftop for a friend's celebration.  He reserved as section on the roof . It was a slow start the food was good  chicken and waffles  chicken was a chicken breast ( boneless) which is always my preference  waffles are sweet almost biscuit like texture ? The "syrup" was a spicy molasses concoction  - was not bad but not what I expected . The empanadas  were vegan ? Black bean filling tasty but small  3 per serving we had multiple  plates of those but clearly an appetizer.  The stand out would have been the sweet Chile wings . I am not a big wing fan but these were delicious . But the TRUE STANDOUT was the service  from the bartender  WILL , he was fabulous .I have never seen a server work so hard . 2 other servers had told my friend no umbrellas were available  remember he has rented a section on a HOT roof top. Will shows up he finds an umbrella,  hand fans for the women, keeps our bucket filled with ice , orange  juice , cranberry juice , Tito's , etc . It is not about it being his job but how he executed it . He made small talk asked questions,  we never had to look for him , we looked up - he was there . The kitchen  is on the 2nd floor - Rooftop the 3rd he made sure the food servers got to our area quickly .Our party got to be "largish" Will was on it . If Will worked every place I went I would go out more frequently.  In fact I have been to many Rooftop bar and establishments in VA but I will return to HOF'S  because of the great service in hopes that all the staff is similar  to Will.

I recommend this place as an icebreaker for new couples, place to bring the in-laws, family and friends of all ages welcome. Wide verity of drinks and mixes. Three floors to explore and vibe. If you come at about 2030 or 830pm is when it started to be popping in this joint!

Stopped in on St. Patrick's Day around dinner time. Maybe not surprising the "German" restaurant wasn't very busy. They did have a four piece band playing some fun music downstairs and the rooftop patio was open to hang out but no food or drink service up there (I'm assuming due to the small crowd). They have a few German style plates and a variety of burgers. The Mr. Wolf is unique and delicious. I'm sure this is a fun place to come on a nice summer day/night and enjoy the patio. If looking for a food option in the Scott's Addition neighborhood to complement all the breweries, this should leave you happy.

Nice rooftop..their naan and spinach dip was yum.. I was also pleasantly surprised with their veggie rolls... Decent selection of beers.. They always have something going on second floor - like some event... Rooftop is pretty nice to enjoy sunset...

Roof. Top. Bar. Need I say more? Great views of the city and plenty of seating. They have specialty frozen drinks and anything else you'd want available at the bar. The pizza looked amazing, I unfortunately was full while we were there and didnt get to try it. They also have a large inside area that is spacious. Great place to meet friends for a drink or get dinner

Had my wedding on 6/4 and this venue was amazing. The staff was very helpful and special shout-out to Molly for making sure the final details were done. I recommend this venue if you want to experience history and coordinate with the best team a bride can ask for.

Yelp
I was hired as a Balloon Artist to decorate for a 50th birthday event At Hofheimer this past weekend. At first, it was stressful because we found out the night before the event that the Do,inion Parade was happening at the same time, but... I got there early and was lucky enough to find parking right out front! This building was awesome, you would never know what's inside by looking at it. When you first walk in , there's a dining and bar area. Then up on the second floor is the event space, The room I set up in was the Library. I put the balloon garland up against one of the wall bookcases and the client loved it. I have got to make time to come back as a patron and experience the place.

Yelp
I love going to this place. First of all the security staff is great. Todd is always so accommodating and helpful to my friends and I. Always polite and so helpful and always with a BIG SMILE. Mitch and Dunny always look out for us as well and treat us like royalty. Great place and great staff. Nothing but great times and food when we go here. Thanks for always making sure we're safe and having a GREAT TIME.

Yelp
I had a great experience coming here. Good food, drinks and music! Shout out to Todd for being such a great security guard. He gets the vibes going when you're first coming in

Yelp
Harry's 28 is coming and you need to be here as soon as it opens! Marcus and Kayla are fantastic. Some of the best, most entertaining bartenders we've ever had!! The decor here si amazing! This place has so much charm from the industrial style walls to the awesome art on the walls. If you like a good cocktail this is not your place. a GREAT cocktail?! This is the place for you!! Come and enjoy! And then come again

Yelp
I have been as a patron a few times! The Rooftop has a great view and lots of seating. I worked with the Hof on an event in the loft space. The team was easy to work with and they had everything set up for us when we arrived. It was the perfect space to have family style meals and be spaced out to observe COVID-19 precautions. We ordered a lot of food and it was all delicious. Everyone seemed very happy with the selection they had. I would recommend using the loft space! The main hiccup we had was the parking lot we rented through the Hof was hard for our guests to find. I would highly recommend offering valet or having signage.

Lesha T.

Yelp
I go to this venue often and it is primarily because the staff is so kind and accommodating. They have a strong security team, Todd, Lenny, and Mitch who makes sure a safe space for myself, my friends, and other occupants. Additionally, Dunny, one of the bartenders, consistently delivers excellent customer service, enhancing our experience.

Yelp
Doing a quick tour of some fun spots in the area we fell upon Hofheimer. While it was early in the night, and the late night crowd wasn't out yet, the location seemed like a fun spot and even more at night. After a few drinks we continued on our tour, as the DJ was preparing, preparing for a fun night.

Yelp
Love it here! I'm surprised I hadn't reviewed it yet. There's the Hof garden, 2nd floor event space & dark room, and the roof. I only haven't been to the dark room surprisingly -- but heard they have really good craft cocktails there! Hof garden has great music after 10pm. Never too crowded, and the bartenders are so nice! 2nd floor is spacious and perfect for events, especially since you can go back and forth between the different floors/bars. The roof is great during the warmer months. Last visit I ended up ordering food cause I was a bit hungry and tried the pizza. Much bigger than I expected! And it was delicious.

Yelp
Rooftop bars are the in thing, and RVA social scene is taking off with a bang! The Hof Bldg is so easy to get to (just get off the Pulse 'Scott's Addition' stop) ... the place gets busy early, so finding a shady spot may be a tricky... but there are lots of seating options. The bar/wait staff are friendly and quick to bring you are refreshing beverage and/or eats. I have been here twice, both before the evening crowd, so have missed the lines... keep that in mind. I have not been disappointed... I will definitely be back!!

Yelp
New event space in Richmond's Scott's Addition! Went for the Sunsets at the Hof event, and in terms of space, I was definitely impressed. It'd definitely be a venue I'd rent out for parties or special occasions. Nice, open rooms adorned with beautiful art that's actually for sale. And of course the rooftop deck is the coolest. Literally. Being that high up, even on a hot day, you can catch a breeze. And the views of the city/streets are great. A couple more umbrellas to deflect sun would be nice. I noticed two bars--one on the main floor and one on the rooftop. They've only just opened, but I think I saw a sign referring to a food menu coming soon. The music (live DJ) was super funky. Old school originals that only a purist would identify with. Cool as ice. Sexiest spot in the city right now, and so far it's attracting a mature crowd.

Yelp
I am so excited for this historical gem to finally get a makeover! Hofheimer was a very famous rug company and this building is as historic as much of Richmond itself. The owner even purchased some of the leftover construction items the Mosque theater was built with. Though, that's a Richmond rumor. Either way, this beautiful space has a new facelift to bring her current to stand strong with Scott's Addition at her backside. The rooftop bar is exceptional- and currently only opened on Thursday's for preview of the event space. However, they are extending that preview through the month of June (so get down and take a peek - it's free to get in!). The views of the city and Scott's addition make this a great spot for anyone who wants to grab a drink with friends and dance to the DJ spinning dance grooves. As posted, they will be having food served later and VIP access! The potential for this building is as wonderful as the building itself. With the expanded spaces both on the second and third/rooftop level, there is so many uses for this space. If you have a wedding or corporate event, this is a great location to consider. With ample parking and spectacular views, there is a lot to look forward to. The staff that currently run the events are exceptional and the renovations are as industrial chic as you can find in this area. It is a must see!

Yelp
I've been to the Hof for a variety events but Sunsets At The Hoof (Thursdays) has been my favorite event here. The music is always great and a lovely atmosphere for the young professional Be sure to check out the rooftop if you go on a nice day. The view is beautiful. There is an additional bar and adequate seating. A good spot for the craft brew lovers , offering a ton of different ales and drafts .

Yelp
I enjoyed this venue because of the floor plan, various events can be happening based on floor level.

Yelp
Cool rooftop bar! The service here was phenomenal! A shout out to Rich, our server. He had a great sense of humor and we enjoyed joking with him. Oh Yeah! we got these cool T-shirts too.

Yelp
Hofheimer rooftop sets the perfect atmosphere for a great night out, overlooking our more industrial part of RVA. The vibe is right, the DJ is tight, and craft beer just tastes better at a higher altitude. The Hopgarden has long picnic tables for chilling with your crew while people watching the folks cutting rugs on the dance floor! If your in the area and your looking for a new experience on another level, check out Scott's Addition's rooftop venue.

Yelp
Cocktails, History, Art... Okay, you had me at cocktails! On Thursday, we attended the Historic; beautifully renovated, Hofheimer Building, for Sunsets@HOF, the final of [4] rooftop cocktail parties, held as part of what appears to be the beginning of a wonderful Summer Series of events at the Hofheimer Building. The buildings interior is gorgeous, the art gallery space was very well appointed, and the rooftop bar... its a rooftop bar! Although small (what rooftop spaces are every big); it is nicely designed with what appeared to be either Teak or Pine bench seating; umbrellas for those non-sun bakers, and a spacious bar! The staff at the bar, as well as, entrance were amazing; super friendly and appeared to be enjoying what they did - which is always a plus. The wonderful ladies of King of Pops were there serving up some delicious treats and the DJ kept the party going with a bevy of music from old to new. A great time was had! Although Thursday's event marked the finale of Sunsets@HOF, this by far will not be their last event! Already scheduled for the month of June is Rooftop Yoga, to be held every Monday at 7pm, with the amazing Michelle Lee Landon of One Drop Yoga! The Hofheimer Building ultimately is an event space, and perfect for any group or company looking to host a great event - from an after work social, meet and greet, to fashion show... this space is perfect! I can't wait to read all of the wonderful reviews to come... until then Yelpers.. Yelp on!

Yelp
Lovely rooftop bar. Went here for a certain event and had a BLAST. I usually don't type in caps so you know it's good haha. They have two big jenga games and I had fun meeting new people and playing with them. Great sound system and DJ. Decent size dance floor/ bar area. Drink were not as overpriced as some places. They also had a huge dance floor on the second floor of the building. Overall, great time, I WILL be back.

Joseph P.

Yelp
First, for OSHA: Stewie cleaned his hands RIGHT in front of me, and then he played an AMAZING ballade by Queen called "Radio Gaga" for me. All around great experience.

Yelp
FINALLY, I was off of work on Thursday and down to check out Sunsets at the Hof. The inside building is really really clean and inviting. The rooftop is roomy, with picnic tables, and nice bench areas for sitting with Jenga games stacked high on each. There is also a rather large bar area with plants to give it some charm. I ordered a Potter's Cider for 6 dollars, and my friend ordered a grapefruit beer. We also ordered a pitcher of beer later in the evening. They had a wide variety of beers and rose! We were starving so we ordered pretzels, bratwurst, and perogies. The pretzels were very dry and tough, and the perogies were a little stale/hard, but I enjoyed the pretzels just the same. Also a huge plus is that the bathrooms are easy to access and plentiful. The music was good and the overall the vibes here are great! It's fun because it's not your typical night out! I definitely want to come back, and when it's cold outside I'll sit in the bar on the first floor :)

Yelp
We booked the Hoffheimer Building in the Spring of 2016 for our wedding scheduled for May 2017. We signed a contract for the loft and rooftop, paid a deposit, and thought we had everything locked in. I called them a few months later so that I could bring in my wedding planner to see the loft and rooftop space. The new manager (Bobby) had never even seen our contract, they had trouble finding our signed copy but apparently didn't have trouble cashing our check. When we went in to meet him for the first time he indicated that although they had since brought on a new manager he would still honor everything in our original agreement. His exact words were "of course we will honor everything, that would be bad business if we didn't". He simply asked that we resign a new contract because they had migrated to a new record system. He also proceeded to explain that the rooftop would be upgraded, but this would in no way effect my venue arrangement for my wedding reception. I asked him point blank during the meeting to give me the details if things were changing up front and he assured me that I had nothing to worry about. I had to call him several times the following week in order to get him to send the contract over and when he finally did it was DOUBLE my original contract price. Needless to say, I phoned him to request an explanation for the price differences. Bobby requested that I resend my original contract because they didn't trust that we had received the price we were quoted. I sent the contract and the original email outlining everything that was supposed to be included in the agreement and he called me back in for yet another meeting of inconsistencies. When we arrived he said that the venue would now be priced at 10K and that we simply could not use the loft AND the rooftop that was promised in our contract. He said that even if the construction was completed, they would still not allow me to use the space. He did offer the loft ONLY, but said that he would not block off business in the other areas of the building that day (downstairs/rooftop would still be normal business). The loft and rooftop share the bathrooms and the loft is way too small to fit all of my guest. I also chose this space because I wanted an outside event--so that wasn't going to work. He proceeded to say that all events for that time frame had been placed on hold due to upcoming construction. (remember this part) We took the next few days to mull it over and scrambled to find another venue. A few days later, I had a friend call to inquire about the EXACT SAME day and he said it was available and asked if they wanted to come in for a meeting to check it out. I couldn't believe the blatant disregard for a legal contract that they initiated and their complete disrespect of someone's wedding day. We took a refund and have since found another space which I am happy with. It was just so frustrating to have already planned so many things on a venue that you've paid for. I even had to pay an additional fee on my invitations because I had to change the venue after I finalized the design. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING if you decide to book this venue. They are terrible, absolutely terrible to work with. I would not recommend them for any event and I certainly will not be supporting their business. What kind of upcoming venue space backs out on someone 6 months before their wedding?

Yelp
Very nice view. Drinks are slightly overpriced ($10 per cocktail---in a solo cup?), but only slightly. The price point for this type of crowd should be around $8. If you want something more upscale and chill, go to Quirk. If you want herpes, go to Kabana. This is right in the middle, maybe a 5-6 on a 1-10 scale. I wish the crowd would dress a bit more fashionable and adult, as it would lend itself better to the ambiance. Most of the ladies look stunning and classy, but the men need to step it up. There are a few Fuckboy's lurking that ruin the mood for everyone and the bouncers do not do a good job regulating on inappropriate behavior (Pro Tip: Do not ask politely to stop. Remove them. You will loose your female clientele if you do not take complaints seriously. This is 2016. Women are woke.). If more decently behaved, professional, progressive gentleman decided it come, this place would easily be an 7-8 on a 1-10 scale. The woman are far better, more successful, more professional, more adult.
